Put Lisa Gerrard on a film soundtrack and you're already on to a masterful start. Put in great dialogue and performances all round and you've got the perfect gangster movie. Drop dead brilliant.
I have such affection for this little gem of a film. I can’t remember where any of the actors (Craig, Hardy, Miller, etc..)were in their careers before this film was released, but whether they were well established prior to or not, it’s a feather in everyone’s hat that participated in it. Cheers!
Highly underrated film and epic performances all the way around. I sincerely believe that Daniel Craig landed the James Bond role after the Braccoli family viewed this film.
Best English movie I ever saw.Best Daniel Craig movie.Best Movie beginning. One of the best soundtracks.Best first person narrations in movie. Best unheard of movie ever made. Why?
Trevor and Shanks should've got their own spin off, Trevor as the calm and collected brain, and Shanks as the volatile psychopath who you don't mess with.
Absolutely brilliant movie. The ending is marvelous, I love clarkie's the king is dead, long live the king speech and the shot of all of the guys sitting there with xxxx walking out and regardless of his hatred of guns and violence, he rattles off a few names who were killed throughout the movie putting into perspective no matter how clean cut the crew was, the drug game is still the drug game. Also beautiful shot of stoke park, place looks like it personifies class and relaxation.
At first I was also highly impressed by Eddie Temple's speech, but the fact that XXXX doesn't buy it for a second, and furthermore has Temple's men killed to steal back the pills proves he really was one step ahead in the end.
In the novel, he's wounded but lives, recovers, and goes on to enjoy the retirement he always sought. The movie's ending is ambiguous but it's clear XXXX isn't exactly dead.

Best film ever made. Oh and to everyone bangin on about the tunes in this film, yes its on cd to buy as I own it and secondly you could buy it from iTunes ut dunno if its still on there.
Layer Cake... James Bond and Kingsley Shacklebolt vs. Dumbledore and Q from MI6 in a drug war directed by Matthew Vaughn... oh yeah, and Sienna Miller. Yep, pretty much impossible to beat that.
you clearly do not understand the concept of the film. For myself and many others this is a highlight of British cinema. Michael Gambon plays the role throughout the film spot on. Great film, my favourite.
I know it's been eight years, but yes he was killed offscreen. Pointers to this are: 1. You see the aftermath of the armed robbery on the Land Rover carrying the goods. 2. They celebrate the death of the king, which can only mean the top gangster Eddie Temple.
@@NautilusGoose I don't think that's the case, i think they're really talking about Jimmy Price who was their "Top of the pryamid". I think that Eddie without his ex professional soldiers, realises that XXXX and co have more "friends" than he realised and probably decides to drop the matter being the calm pragmatist that he is...
If you watched the movie, the black guy and shanks wanted to buy the pills of off XXXX (daniel craig) but Eddie Temple made a better offer, here you see him take the pills without payment, but the black guy and shanks hi-jack the car the pills were carried in and XXXX gets his money afterall.. Then gets shot as you can see lol, but read between the lines and it's all an elaborate plot by Craig and in the end he comes out on top.. Then dies lol
best ever british gangster movie, i forgot tom hardy was in this class
Best gangster movie period. Along with Snatch.
Long Good Friday is up there aswell.
He's Reggie kray in London now
Everything about Layer Cake is perfection imo
As far as British gangster movies go The Business is good too.
This is my No1 film all time ..it’s OF it’s era..I never tire of watching it⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Get Carter, the original, not the us remake shite
The sountrack just screams Betrayal and redemption in one smooth motion. An absolute classic

I loved and hated the ending of this movie. I've rewatched it four times, each time is better and better.
9 Years ago you added this comment. I've watched it four times and it's true it gets better each time.
Michael Gambon is such a heavy. The scene where you finally see Dragan - that's an interesting character. I could see him in "Sicario."
Sir Gambon is an absolute TITAN.

Absolute top class movie.

Agreed!
100% agree😊
I’m with you bro, would be very interesting.
Just like the old days Shanks 😜
Back when British Cinema was about making films people want to watch
"The koons are coming" sorry passage from a Rupert annual back in the day......

He played them all
@@Likeaworm whilst remaining loyal to his friends.
He did buy it, because he admitted that Temple's words made sense. He was just prepared to screw him over, just like Eddie did him.
Correct bro💯
He made one mistake though and underestimated Sidney
I fucking enjoyed that brother. 🤣😂
Me too Kidda, where you want the money sent la?
The music works perfectly with the scene.
I really wish TNT, FX, or AMC would make a show based off of this movie.
Lock Stock & Snatch are excellent but this is my fav!
I think film is more powerful.
In the novel, he's wounded but lives, recovers, and goes on to enjoy the retirement he always sought. The movie's ending is ambiguous but it's clear XXXX isn't exactly dead.
Doesn't enjoy his retirement hates the hotel business in Jamaica and its on the constant lookout for another caper
Viva la rendezvous
He’s dead mate! The fact there was so much blood suggests heart wound and also the screen goes white to indicate death.
dude this movie was so good wish it got more publicity

Great film, my favourite.
Yes so true
BEST FILM EVER MADE
this is what happens when Dumbledore gets put into Slytherine
Dumbledore: Drug Lord
Great movie. Lessons for everyone.
A fact of life is true accomplishment is the development of ones character towards ones progress.🌅Tony Robbins.
You can always rely on The Scousers to get the job done. After all Daniel Craig is almost a Scouser.
You got that right Kidda
Where you want the money sent la?
Fucking excellent, Angelo. :)
Very True!
I like both endings
Bestest
That club is the golf club from Goldfinger!
jus a great movie
Epic.

R.I.P M.G.
anyone knows the soundtrack for this scene?
does anybody know what the song/music is from 0:30 to 1:50 with the woman singing?
I would think so; It isn't made clear, but he would surely retaliate following the death of two of his employees.
I think he lives on
hes not a gangster hes a businessman
Most drug dealers are it's you violent psychopaths like shanks who are the gangsters
Sequel out in Sept, roll on. . . . .
@moefoe99 well mate the funny part was that in the movie they were mentioned as Serbs, but they used to talk on Romanian.
Anybody know the name of the scouse actor? The white guy. He was also in Mean Machine. Not listed on IMDB which is weird. Thanks.
Hi you could just look on wiki for the film it will tell you who all the actors are 😃👍

Typical Land Rover; the left taillight is out.
This is the end haha jagan lol:)
did I really think Eddie was going to give me three million for those pills, did I fuck !
What ?
Drug money is not easy money
I just wanna be clear, Michael Gambon character does get killed right?
