Great video, very detailed. I was going to take it to someone to get it done but, after watching your video I feel confident enough to do it my self….. my old key wasn’t fat like the one you are talking about with the chip in it. So I think I’ll be alright. Thanks again.
New video, Very informative. Just had my column tube replaced and now me 02 f250 won’t start. Skinny key no chip. Is there a wrong way to put the ignition cylinder in? Like upside down? I’m getting a crank no anti theft blinking lights.
I ordered a new cylinder from ford for my 03 excursion there going to rekey it with my key I already have for the truck so will it need reprogrammed or will I just be able to slap it in and start it or will they have to program it
Someone tried stealing my Excursion and distroed the ignition switch so I am unable to turn it to the on position to remove to old one. Do you have any thoughts on how to remove the bad one?
I was thinking about drilling out the cylinder. I'm replacing it anyway. After looking at the replacement, I don't see why it would damage anything but the cylinder. Am I missing something?
Can you remove the lock and not leave the power on? Example: remove the lock, use screwdriver to turn vehicle off, go to a parts store the next morning, get a new lock, and come back to replace? Could a screwdriver do that? And start the vehicle (without PATS) too?
I don't believe you can. The ignition has to be "on" to remove it and you obviously can't move it back to "off" after it is removed. Of course you can simply disconnect your batteries negative cable and that will kill the power to the truck to prevent the batteries from being drawn down.
Good video. Someone tried to steal my 2001 F250 super-duty and tore-up my ignition switch but failed to steal it. I’ve been trying to install a new switch but every time I install the new one the key will not release. It starts and turns off but the stays Locked in the cylinder. The new cylinder came with a “caution” warning not to rotate the key clockwise until the lock cylinder is installed into the steering column”. There is no way to insert the new cylinder without Turning the key to “ on “ position the new cylinder. Has anyone had this problem and found a solution ?

there is a small wire that is semi circular that fits into the top of the lock sleeve. it appear to be loose and creates a battery draining short. would you know if i might be missing a containing ring to hold this wire and electrical contact in the cylinder and sleeve ?

This video is replacing the ignition lock cylinder not the actual ignition switch. It does sound like you need an ignition switch though. Or even a loose/corroded battery cable end.
