Bro you can be a dick to them and they don't care and still be nice to you I've seen many like that the workers are still nice but still need to get off
I did it last year in March 2022 and took the later sleeper from Helsinki at 2313 and arrived Rovaniemi at 1115 or so. I had a sleeper with en-suite and slept superbly and had dinner and breakfast in the dining car which was brilliant. So recommended and I did a bucket list job of driving a snowmobile. The restaurant at the station in Rovaniemi does a superb pizza which is really big and just what you need before the train back to Helsinki! I took the train just before 2100 that arrives back in Helsinki at about 0930. Simon is always friendly as I am another Simon and we are both from Wales!!
such a honest and nice gentleman every interaction you had you was so polite respectful and even helpful with the family at the end , we need more people like you in the world
Finland weather is no joke. I was there yesterday after flying from Bangkok to London with Helsinki being my layover flight. The cold hit me so hard. -11 degrees when Thailand was 30+. Definitely shocked me. Fair play to Simon for dealing with the cold better than I ever could!
@@goodputin4324No one said they are Scandinavians. Although they are part of the Scandinavian Peninsula, which is why sometimes people include Finland and even Iceland, practically substituting Nordics for Scandinavia.
I just watched this on the back of another UA-cam suggestion from a different travel blogger. Same journey, but I must say the difference in attitude was stark! I love your upbeat and friendly nature, taking pleasure in the small things like clever usage of space and chatting to guests and staff alike. Keep it up!
Love how Simon kept talking to the staff outside when there was only 8 minutes for the train to leave and random questions as well 😂 I will be to paranoid in case I miss the train
Brother we can't get enough of ur content, double the duration of videos, it's a great combination of good quality, genuine travelling which is rarely done with such authenticity and variety+ the friendly character u got, am an old fan in other platforms.
I lived in Tampere on a work placement in 2007. It was -31 degrees, but the city kept functioning. I got the train up to Rovaniemi and loved it. Snowmobiling and husky sledging as well as meeting Santa was epic. Highly recommend.
One of the reasons so many cabins are empty, is that many passengers hop on at Tikkurila or later. The other reason is that the prices of these rides have been increasing at insane speed. Less and less Finns can afford it, sadly. Ps. The last time I visited Rovaniemi, it was -42C.
A Finn here, I've always loved these overnight trains! Such sweet memories also from when I was a child and going on a holiday with family. Your train was quite empty from Helsinki, but many passengers board with a car as it's easier to move in the destination that way. And the first car boarding place is in Pasila, Helsinki (next stop after Helsinki central railway station) so many people board from there and later stops.
Im sick, feeling cold even though its summer, hidden in my blanket with the lights turned off, wanted something to watch and got this video recommend just now. Hope it makes me feel cozy.
My grandmother came from Lapland, from a small town called Kittilä. Some area there have the record cold in all of Finland, in 1999 it was like -51 Celcius
One of the Best Travel guide Tours from Simon. Gone from, American Monopoly Board Game Challenge, and straight into his next incursion of his travels. Love it.
There’s a lot of travel UA-camrs, and they have good videos because of their destinations. Or some of the stories they tell. But Simon is the one of the few who does that while also being an entertaining personality
It's my first time watching you. You always say everyone is friendly but the truth is your positive energy is so contagious and they're just reciprocating it! I'd be super eager to help or even have a small convo with someone with that kind of vibes! Cheers mate!

Only Simon would would give us a 10 episode series of him travelling around America, then a few days later release another great video. The commitment is crazy 🙌
Getting a Finnish person to talk is impressive, kudos to Simon! Amazing people when you actually make contact with them, but sometimes they are so hard to talk to.
Especially us Swedes, Fins and Danes are not really happy to talk, simply cause we don't absolutely care about you, we can help you but thats about it. Norwegians are more friendly but don't expect friendship in any Scandinavian country thats how it works here, we are definitely not here to small talk or listen about your weather and these things. Many visitors sees that as rude but its not, heard that many times from visitors here in Sweden why you so rude..
@@minnaorvNo really? As I said ofc we gonna answer questions but 99% people won’t talk about weather or any small talk or how they call it in england and these countries.
My grandparents were from Sweden and moved to the US, a lot of Swedish was spoken while I was growing up. All my life we’ve ‘been Swedish’, language, food, culture etc. so after a DNA test imagine our surprise when we found out we’re Finnish haha… I know that in past history the kingdoms have gone back and forth but yeah, it was a shock. 🤷🏻♀️ Funny thing is, my mom was shy and sometimes my dad would tease that she ‘was Finnish’ and I wish she was still here to laugh about this with us.
Finally got the hat!! Your collaboration finally dropped I got the alpine lace one because yours wasn’t out yet but I’m going to pick up two hats! Can’t wait to get yours as well!
Next time you're in the US, you should take the California Zephyr from Chicago all the way to the San Francisco Bay Area. There's a lot of really nice scenery! If you're in Canada, The Canadian is also a really cool train that goes across Canada.
