I went to iceland last february and stayed in a glass igloo to see the northern lights, it cost thousands, didnt see them because it was cloudy, got back to the UK, and the news said that when we were in iceland, you could see the northern lights in the UK …… Almost had a stroke. Still haven’t seen them.
Im an astrophotographer. The green tinge to the sky is called airglow. Basically, the night sky is never truly dark. Cosmic rays striking the atmosphere, collisions between the atoms that make up the atmosphere, and the changes in atoms and photons in the atmosphere cause a slight glow in the sky. In laymans terms, the Earth's atmosphere is glow in the dark. We just dont see it because the light that we create obscures it. You need to be under a sky that is essentially untouched by light pollution to see it. Unfortunate you've not got to see the aurora. Keep trying mate. Its truly a wonderful sight. As the great Carl Sagan once said, astronomy is a humbling and character building experience. Safe travels, and clear skies.
Love your mental health comments Simon..I've travelled a lot like you & want to more but now looking after elderly family and it's rubbing on my mental health a lot, your vids are fantastic, keep my travel buzz going but now i do what i have to do.. Regards
Such an inspiration have traveled a little bit myself since I lost my kids and your vids have kept me going spent the last few months in cyprus and since coming back to ireland has put me on on the spiraling path back to the wrong head space going to work the whole of December in cafe en seine to afford to go traveling again your vids honestly keep me going the only thing I have is to try save and go on a budget by myself to see the world
Currently in Norway with the military… to see Simon walk in bare feet on metal cracked me up! I’d have been thrashed for days… no skin uncovered when outside 😂😂😂
And add to that a temperature of -39 C (as I once experienced in Lapland), and you have a day to remember. But the sky was clear, and the northern lights were spectacular.
You’re so cute greeting everybody and asking so many questions especially from my fellow short spoken finns 😂 love your curiosity and positive attitude
We stayed at this very place in Rovaniemi last January, I think it was exactly the same Jacuzzi that we used and we definitely had salmon in that restaurant. Brough so many happy memories back, an amazing place to visit and we saw the Northern Lights when guide took us on a late night picnic to a random wood about 45 minutes out of the city!
🔔 "It's 21 below outside now." Fahrenheit or Celsius? And what's the equivalent number in the scale it's not? Also @ 5:07 the complete absence of fog breath is quite remarkable.
One day I’ll save up the money to buy an all terrain wheelchair that copes with the snow so I can visit the artic circle and Lapland. Until then I’ll live it through your videos
Simon you have literally been on a role which is why I'm guessing we won't see you for a while now and having a break well deserved. Can't wait for new content next year. Monopoly series was the best of 2023 in my opinion.
My fiancé and I went up to a cabin in the West Virginia mountains last week and my favorite part was sitting outside on the deck in the snow and temperature around 11° and just lounging in the hot tub! Incredible feeling
Can’t wait to see your next journey mate, been great seeing you back lately, watched you since the no money America challenge and just love your a genuine guy and showing us your new experiences, keep it up, love from Scotland 😜🏴
I enjoy these types of videos as I can’t travel, but I’m interested I seeing new places, keep up with the good work, I look forward to seeing more videos
i used to watch all your videos but then one day i just stopped, i'm glad i started watching your videos again. keep up the good work bro your killing it, big up from south wales bro
Simon, can you do an EDC/What's in my bag video? I see your new bag is the North Face Base Camp Duffel, right? We'd all love to see what kind of gear you bring along for your adventures.
Top video as always mate and can I personally thank you for choosing such a sponsor as mental health has been an issue at times as it is for so many!!! Credit to you Simon keep it up and remember guys you’re never alone!!!
I don’t normally comment here on UA-cam. I’ve been a subscriber to your channel for a good while now and love seeing your adventures. This adventure however has really hit home for me. See, I have been with my partner now for 20 years and the one place she has always wanted to go is Finland to a glass igloo to see the aurora and as much as I hate the cold and the snow, I have always said that I would do it one year. 3 weeks ago however our world was tuned upside down with the news that she has stage 4 colorectal cancer and will be starting chemotherapy in the new year so it looks as though we will have to suspend the idea for some time. Such a shame you didn’t get the true experience but it does look like a beautiful place and I too would have been happy with the just being there. Hopefully we see Christmas 2024 and she is well enough for us to give this a try. Thank you for sharing this insight and look forward to where ever you end up next. ⛄️ 🚆 🧊
I remember being up in Lapland (much further north than this though) and when I heard about these igloo hotels, I wanted to stay in one so desperately. I didn't get the chance, but maybe one day in the future. It's a land I want to return to. 😊
Loved Finish Lapland when I took my kids, and very lucky to see Northern Lights when I decided to take my kids to play in the snow at midnight as they couldn’t sleep. Best place on earth
Like you are ever doing anything important 😂 this dude tried to make a Simon video seem important like he drops his surgical instruments into someone's skull to watch it 😭.
😂 where duh ya fine a taxi in this airport? (As he stands next to the sign pointing to the taxi's)... 😔 It always the ground level by the baggage claim btw.
Several years ago i was there with my wife we also did a reindeer 🦌 sledge tour we where there for 5 days and 2 nights in the igloo luckily we seen the lights on the second night amazing definitely worth the money just to see them , also service was awesome 👍😎, come to Scotland Simon Wilson you see the northern lights here up in Aviemore Scotland , come live in our castle you be amazed 😎👍

Holy shit that must be absolutely devastating but yep could see the proper auroras here in uk

This place looks amazing. The service from the staff is fantastic too 🤷
🤷 What's the shrugging emoji for? Asking for a friend
yeah they were chill, also cuz he treats them well, however for the price of everything, at least u expect so
I'll always give a like to someone visiting Finland, and this one's no different! Great content as always Simon!
The lady working at hotel was wonderful. Very calming and pleasant
Always love your videos. Love how respectful and kind you are to everyone, great to watch
Simon at 1:35 “we’re passing someone’s house”, also Simon “someone obviously lives there” 😂😂😂
Apart from Simon, I don't think there's any other UA-camr that I watch and feel sad when the video ends
It's an emotional journey
I loved my visit to Lapland Finland. The food was so fresh and delicious. The igloo was adorable and we were blessed enough to see the aurora lights.

What happened to your kids?😒

Sunrise 11.51, Sunset 12.11. 😂 I may complain about the UK, but man those Finnish have it tough
And add to that a temperature of -39 C (as I once experienced in Lapland), and you have a day to remember. But the sky was clear, and the northern lights were spectacular.
I can see why it's so cold there all the time lol
Most I’ve ever felt was around -30 degrees Fahrenheit because of a wind chill, it was bad
Absolutely amazing staff and service 11/10😊
I feel that I have visited the world along with you by your fantastic videos…. Cheers Simon
You’re so cute greeting everybody and asking so many questions especially from my fellow short spoken finns 😂 love your curiosity and positive attitude
10:58 “we are working just for you tonight” that was definitely a passive aggressive dig at you Simon 🤣🤣🤣
Hahah
Haha I think that’s just how they talk
Literally this guy is best..he always appreciates everyone with a good manner ..
nice man❤️🔥
I love this how lucky are we to have a UA-cam channel like this. Thanks @Simon Wilson
The energy matches the place.... legend.. absolutely amazing
0:57 "It's baltic"- no it's arctic! 😄
By the end of it...I'm so exhausted lol. What energy.
That cup of tea was criminal
I’ve done this years ago at that very spot. One of the best experiences of my life.

Barefoot in the snow and Thomas showed you the free slippers and winter hats, DOH!!

Perfect timing.
Love the videos Simon.
what a _fantastic_ video! I NEED to go here!!!!!!!! Snow Sauna - wow!
This has got me in the mood for my trip to Svalbard in January!
I always enjoy the contrast: Bald practically won't stay in a hotel that doesn't have cockroaches and Simon only does Marriott and up.
It’s always nice to see someone visiting my homeland❤
Simon you're killing it with these uploads, looking forward to see what you have planned in 2024
A lot 😎

Cool video Simon! You are my favourite UA-cam vlogger by miles. Looking forward to the next video.
No wonder the restaurant was empty if it was 69 euros for that salmon dish. Holy moly.
Bit over done for that
Think that also included the sauna too.
lets not mention the 480€ for the tend 😂
Simon talks more to random people than I do with my family

‘Tis the season to be absolutely freeeeezing.

That looks like a really cool experience. No pun intended.
REINDEER FOR DINNER? I’ve never tried reindeer but I totally would given the chance. Once in a lifetime experience 😂
What a great entertaining video Simon. You should get sponsored by the Finland Tourist Board😅
You just knew that seconds after the staff had told Simon what to do etc he would forget it! Place looks amazing! Enjoy!
