I took Amlodipine for years. I felt worse than ever in my lifetime - tired & fatigued always. At the time, I had hypertension & weighed 190 lbs. I now weigh 100 lbs & my blood pressure is always below 120/80. I have been off hypertension meds for about 5 years & never felt better. How did I lose the 90 lbs??? I changed NOTHING, but added a 1/2 mile walk to my daily activity. It didn't happen overnight, but it did happen. It took almost 6 years, but the 90 lbs disappeared. All it takes is a little patience & perseverance. Nothing happens instantly.

I have type 2 diabetes and high blood Pressure. It's a real job trying to control everything. I ride my bike and walk 5 days a week for 30-45 minutes. I changed my eating habits. I eat fresh vegetables and fruits everyday and only eat fish, chicken 3 days a week. I might eat a steak every 3 months or so, I cut out eating pork about 5 yrs ago and I drink (3) 16 oz. litter of water everyday. I use to weigh 215 lbs, but today I weigh 140 lbs. I feel great and everyone say that I look like I am about 50 yrs old, but I am 74 yrs old. I am proud of myself and I am doing my best to live more healthy and I am happy!!!

I was taking this med for three months and it caused me to have extreme stomach pain, loss of appetite and no desire to eat which resulted in me losing 22 lbs. Also fatigue, headaches and depression. As soon as I stopped taking it there was a tremendous improvement. My doctor was more interested in my blood pressure then my complaints about my stomach.

Yes that is true. my doctor only warned me of the swelling of the ankles. This didn't happen to me luckily sounds horrible by what I'm reading. What it did do after a few months was I started skipping heart beats maybe once a week. It basically knocked me on my arse because when it happened it was like something just sucked all my energy out, my arms hurt to move felt like I had molasses for blood. Few more months go by it starts happening every day. I told my doctor, he didn't know what I was talking about I can't believe he didn't think of this side effect. Once it started happening every day multiple times a day I decided I had enough. Mind you I didn't know what was happening or if something else was wrong. The first dose I missed thing turned around 100% haven't had the issue since so I know that drug would've eventually ended my life.

I'm not sure how much a doctor knows about a medication, only if he's getting a good kick back! Ask your pharmacist, read the pamphlet, check out a website where you can put in all your meds and it will check for meds that don't do well together, etc

I've been taking 5mg of Amlodipine for more than 10 years. Some of the side effects sound familiar, but too few occurrences and probably connected to other things I do (physical activity, diet). My doctor says it's key to take it at the exact time every day. If I miss by too many hours, I just skip it that day and make a conscious effort to relax more. So far, so good.

I have some of the side effects listed such as fatigue, daily nap requirement, swollen legs and ankles. A few months ago I fired my primary care physician and another was assigned to me. The original would not listen to me. Thank you for the information presented in a manner succinct and to the point.

Thanks for this video. I'm 65 and hadn't taken any medication in my life but was put on 10mg of amlodopine because I needed an operation for a detached retina and my BP was high on the pre op check up. I'm in no way a nervous person but get white coat syndrome and my BP goes up exponentially for some reason. Over the last couple of weeks after having been on them for around 9 months and losing around 30 pounds in weight I've been weaning myself off of them and checking my bp which hasn't changed. I didn't really have any side effects except occasional ankle swelling and uncontrollable itching but very rarely so not sure if I can put it down to this. I hate being on meds and will do everything I can to stay off them but I do understand some people don't have a choice. I'm a great believer in natural medicines and have a passionate disdain for allopathic medicine especially considering the events of the last couple of years so with plenty of exercise, which I've always done, and occasional fasting, hopefully I can stay off of them.

@@redfury223 thank you for your encouragement. I’ve been going through HELL since June 2021. I now have more problems now than I did when I first found out I had sever hypertension, atherosclerosis, and coronary heart disease. It’s the hypertension that’s is uncontrollable with the medication. Last week it was 220/120. My urgent care sent me to the hospital. They gave me a Xanax and a half of amlodipine, and sent me home. My doctor did an angiogram and didn’t find anything that should cause such high BP. They gave me 4 of the 4 worst medications for hypertension and they all gave me bad side effects. I’m generally a healthy person. I walk daily, don’t smoke or drink. I try to eat well (lots of beets) and don’t touch salt. I live a (on the outside) a very relaxed stressless life. But I still have sever hypertension. I wake up and it’s 182/109. I know I’m putting my life in severe jeopardy. But the medications will kill me anyway. I’m trying everything natural that I can. My husband said,”it’s in my head.” And I think he’s right. How can I change my way of thinking? I pray constantly for a BP of at least 120/80. I appreciate your comment.😊

Changed to another medication and all of my symptoms brought on by this medication vanished by day 4. Yes - it was so evident.
I didn't go back to discuss the dramatic changes with me stopping this medication. Instead, I changed my doctors practice to a one which listens to patients and actually cares.

I have to make sure I do a thorough job brushing my teeth every day. The surgeon was clear about one thing though. If the medication works, it is more important to keep blood pressure under control than to worry about mild swelling of the gums.

I was put on 2.5m Amlodipine several years ago, because my doctor thought I might be under situational stress. So I would take a pill 2-3 times a week. However, over the last 2 years I deceived to start taking it daily. initially it made me light headed and dizzy when I stood up, but that soon went away as I kept taking it. However, in 2019 I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. It continued to worsen where it felt like something swollen was in my throat or airway. I went to my primary doctor who referred me to ENT, Endocrinologist, voice specialist and fast forward I ended up in ER the day after Memorial Day 2022. They did a CT Scan and each time everything came back good. While in the ER as I talked with the nurse, she asked did I think I could be allergic to something. I told her no, I didn't think so. But I began to ponder if there was something that I was eating that could cause this. I stopped taking Amlodipine for 7-10 days and low and behold the lump feeling went away and so did the sleep apnea. The whole time it was the side effect of the amlodipine. Please watch out if you get sleep apnea after taking this BP med.

@@elsiedlembula3130It causes me skipped erratic beats too and fast hard beats. Had to wear a monitor for 2 weeks and do a stress. They found “palpitations” and some tachycardia. Also dry mouth and gum issues. I even told my cardiologist I think Amlodipine is causing this a few days ago and she swore it doesn’t cause any of this and offered to up the mg. Wth?!

I’ve have diabetes and high blood pressure and I’ve been taking it for the past 5 years, I noticed my legs from my knees down we’re getting swollen when I asked my doctor she said that it was because I was fat, I wish she would have told me about the side effects because i never had swollen legs before!! Next time I see her I’m going to ask her and let her know about my findings and see what she tells me! By the way I’ve been exercising and doing a ketovore diet and I’m down 32 lbs and my blood pressure is down to normal the last 3 times I’ve had it taken so I’m hoping that I can get meds reduced until I’m completely off of them!

My cardiologist switched me to a Lodi pine and I developed severe edema of my legs below the knees, so that I could no longer wear my shoes and walking was difficult. The dose was reduced and the swelling decreased but is still a problem. As well some dizziness is present and my gait is unsteady. I’m trying to get my doctor to switch me back to my old drug which had far fewer side effects.

I’m on 2.5mg. I have been taking vit D3 and just raised it to 4000iu/day. It may help lower my BP and I can stop the amlodipine. I’m also low on B12 so need to up my dosage which may also help. Everyone needs to have a full panel done to see what’s deficient before taking drugs. See Dr Berry videos.

Keep in mind that vitamin D is a fat soluble. It does get stored in the fat. You can take too much. Watch for signs of too much and/or speak to your doctor.

I find at 84yrs old, & have PULMONARY FIBROSIS, & Sweets SyndromeI & now COVID, I don’t go out as much this year. I have developed the symptoms you described this year for the first time & truly believe it’s due to being house, so will talk to my cardiologist to reduce dosage & see if that helps. Thanks again for your share & wisdom on this. I’ll stay tuned!! Ann

I’ve had good luck with amlodipine but losartan was a different story. I have been thru so many different blood pressure meds. Rashes, dizziness, etc. you name it I had it. Most of these drugs have so many bad side effects that it is amazing when you can find one that works without causing so many horrible problems. Good luck to finding one that works that you can live with.Diovan was the absolute worst that caused a rash so severe that I didn’t think I could stand it. My face and ear lobes swelled and itched so bad . It was so unbelievably terrible.

Was on 10 mg. Couple months goes by with great results, but shortly after my heart started to skip beats and when it happened it would take away my energy, made my arms feel like I had thick oil for blood. I could move them, but it hurt and I didn't want to. I just laid there like a slug not moving until it went away. I try to tell my doctor and he shrugged his shoulders not knowing what I was trying to tell him. Once it started happening several times a day, on a daily basis I decided to stop taking them. The first day I stopped rhythmic beats went back to normal and it's not happen since. The drug would've killed me I felt.

I went to my cardiologist. I was concerned about my edema. My kidneys had shut down because of Jardiance and I collapsed. After a week in ICU they came back to about 70-80% efficiency. My ankles and feet were swelling significantly. (BP was O.K.) He put me on Amlodipine!!! After a few days, I called because my feet no longer fit in my shoes (size 9 went to 10.5) and my ankles and lower calves were HUGE, ankles bigger than my thighs. Nurse didn't return calls; COVID was just starting and they weren't seeing patients. Stopped taking it on my own and when quarantine eased, went to a new cardiologist who was dumbfounded as to why it was prescribed since edema is so common with Amlodipine. Replaced the Amlodipine with Chlorthalidone and HCTZ (diuretics). Acceptable now, but the Jardiance damage will never go away so I'll be on significant diuretics forever. Jardiance, Toprol, statins, and Amlodipine all want to kill me. What did I ever do to them?
