I hammered the knuckle several time and then use pry bar. Thanks.

    So , is there any role of anti-seize and thread-locker while replacing this? Or its a bad idea?

    • @JohnSmith-ok9sn
      @JohnSmith-ok9sn 2 роки тому

      The nuts have plastic pressure bushings in them. They act as the "anti-loose" protection. That's what they are for.
      Do not use an impact wrench to tighten this kind if nuts. As the impact turns them at a fast speed, plastic melts from friction, and looses its gripping ability - THEN the nut can get loose with time.
      Did you notice that he used a HAND ratchet to tighten them? - That's why!
      VERY IMPORTANT!

    The ball joint in my 05 didnt release that easily. I tried a crowbar, a hammer, beating the spindle all over, and no go.
    Do note if you use the cv axle base to pry on the ball joint stud, you can goof up the cv axle clamp like I did, and have to replace it.
    I had to use a fork to release it from the spindle (It will destroy the old ball joint boot but if it's going to be replaced, not a big deal).
    Next time, I think I will try a pitman arm remover.

    • @josephschneider5000
      @josephschneider5000 2 роки тому

      I just did the repair on my 2004 camry and the procedure in the video was spot on. I would recommend using a picklfork to get the ball joint out since leaving the axle in will make it difficult to use the other seperator tool. As you could see in the video it didn't fit.

  • @UnsyNZ
    @UnsyNZ 5 років тому +4

    There wasn't enough clearance for me to get a ring spanner in, I ended up having to remove the axle to get a balljoint seperator on it

I did not see you mess with the brakes or the caliper in this case.. Maybe I missed it.. Not criticizing just want to understand why is this necessary.. I recommend a metal hammer not a rubber mallet i almost split a rubber mallet in half hitting it so much. I tried everything to get the ball joint out. In the end i had to cut the boot from the ball joint then hit the part of the ball joint that is underneath the boot with a metal hammer. That is the only thing that worked. I had to remove it from the control arm before i could do that

    5:30 It doesn't seem that easy to remove the ball joint from the control arm like it is in the video. I got it to the point where a pry bar will fit between the ball joint and the control arm, it's not easy to get it to move evenly. It would be easier if I had a floor lift instead of a jack. The pin was easier, the bolt on the pin was harder.

    • @Dexion845
      @Dexion845 5 років тому +2

      Michael Woodburn to get the lower control arm off requires you to have at least two jack stands and a floor jack. You will have to disconnect the sway bar end link to strut.
      (Drivers side)
      Disconnect the top engine bay motor mount
      Disconnect the bottom engine mount
      Lift engine a few inches to get the bottom mount free.
      Then unbolt all LCA assembly nuts/bolts and replace the control arm and reinstall in reverse order
      Passenger side is similar except you don’t have to lift the engine but just remove the panel connected to the motor mount there.
