Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! I have been looking for this how to video all day. Your video is so simple and easy. Everyone else was having all of these complete kits. Since I already have a irrigation system installed, I only need tubing, adapter and hot water. Yes!!! I am headed to Home Depot.
Hey! Glad the video was helpful. If your area needs more than the drip provides... there's a link to a follow up video at the end of this one. I found that my crepe mertyl trees needed a little more water, so I swapped out the drip line with a bubbler head... they like a lot of water.
This hopefully works for my raised garden boxes that are above the spray of the sprinklers now. I can tap into a nearby sprinkler. Good idea to do bubblers around plants too. Thanks
Wonderful! I was initially thinking I’d need to create another zone or cut into my PVC main lines and use a T coupling to achieve this. Thank you for this simple solution.
Thanks. Very helpful. Especially great to have the parts list. Using the links, the Home Depot web site took me right to the proper aisle and row at my local Home Depot warehouse.
Good tip on the hot water. I normally use a lighter for a quick second or two. I have too many issues Quarter inch tubing an accessories. I'm upgrading everything to a half inch tubing. In my opinion, it's more reliable.
Great video We are seniors and I always have to stop and ask my husband, Vietnam Veteran Boot On The Ground-Agent Orange-PTSD-Survivor, to attach the heads, and barb connectors while gardening. Thank you for your video, very easy to follow. 😅😊😂
Rainbird makes a conversion that you install in place of the sprinkler nozzle. The problem with the example given here is that a drip system needs to run about twice as long as a sprinkler so you can not run both at the same time. Also, pressure needs to be reduced to about 30 psi.
Exactly....you cannot run drip on the same zone as regular sprinklers. The drip line will need to run at least an hour to give the tree a good deep soak. On the same zone, it means the sprinklers will run for an hour as well. Vice versa, if you only run the sprinklers for say 10 - 15 minutes, that's not nearly enough time to get enough dripped water to the tree. Don't mix drip with sprinklers on the same zone.
Yes I agree. Mixing the two applications makes this tricky to get right. I would suggest running the turf sprinklers in a deep irregular soaking fashion. Only running it once a week but for like and hour as apposed to 10-15 mins. Giving the grass and the tree a deep soak helps them build a more resilient root zone too.
@@Robert-mj5ge This is exactly what I have been reading. What is the solution if I have a riser right by the garden but a few other heads further away on the same zone?
Such a simple solution! I live in a place that gets quite cold in the winter and I have to blow out my sprinkler system in the fall. Think this would hold up to that?
Hey Sean, I'm not sure on that. It did make it through the insane freeze we had in Texas this year without having to do anything to it. Although, if that keeps happening... I might consider doing that. Never heard of before it and don't have the first idea how to. Can you make a video of it? 🙂
Thanks this is exactly what I was looking for. 2 questions; instead of the riser could you cut the original rubber hose and insert a "T" connector or is the riser easier? and does this affect the distance of the original sprinkler head? Thanks again!!!!!!!!
Hi Johnny - I didn't have to use a pressure regulator, so I'm not sure where that would be installed. I did find that after about a year, my crepe myrtle trees weren't getting enough water from the drip line, so I swapped out the drip line with a bubbler. It was quick and painless... if you go to the end of this video - there's a link to when I switched it out.
I am looking to add to my underground sprinkler system misters for potted flowers. I live in Canada, the underground lines have to blown out every fall. My question: will the mod described in the video survive when the main lines get emptied in the fall using pressurized air. Thanks in advance!
Hey George, Sean had a similar question, here's my response to him. I'm not sure, mine made it through the insane freeze we had in Texas this year without having to do anything to it. Although, if that keeps happening... I might consider doing the pressurized air thing. Never heard of before it and don't have the first idea how to. Hoping you or Sean make a video for me!
@@TheTreeTuner You need to winterize the system in areas where there is a high likelihood of ground freezing. Water expands as it freezes. If you dont blow out your system, your underground pipes will be damaged. This is a good video which explains why you need to blow out the system and how its done: ua-cam.com/video/s3YRbJYmvgA/v-deo.html
Great instructional video thanks, but i have 3/4" (approx 1" actual diameter) Hunter PGP Sprinklers (not 1/2"); any advice as to additional adaptors needed from Home Depot? Apparently HD doesn't make that adapter in 3/4"
Hey there. I've not come across that. Yes, if you do find a answer - please do share it. As a side note... about a year later I made swapped out the drip line for an above ground shower nozel. Trees needed more water than drip was providing. There's a link at the end of the video for the changes I made.
I think it would depend on the type of bush or tree. I know my Crepe Myrtle wasn't getting enough with just the drip, so I had to swap it out with a solution that provided more water. If you fast forward to the end of this video, there's a link to the swap.
I did not and it's still working. The only change I made was to swap out the drip line for an above ground shower nozel. Trees needed more water than drip was providing. There's a link at the end of the video for the changes I made.
Hi Kandace, I don't have a site like that. I would suggest taking the irrigation head off and down to your local hardware store to see if they can help find one that works. Good luck!

I highly appreciate the hot water idea.

why can't there be more instructional videos like this. loved it.

This is great, exactly what I've been looking for. Thanks for including the materials list with links, I'm excited to get started!
You're welcome, that's great to hear! Thanks for the feedback Jonathan.
Awesome!
I love you ! Everyone I spoke with, even landscape co told me I have to convert the whole line from sprinkler to drip!

Thank you. Super helpful and just what i was looking for. The riser adapter is such a simple way to do this!
You're welcome
Omg this made it SO easy! Not intimidating at all like I was imagining!
So glad it was helpful Alexia. Thanks for the comment!
Most excellent, particularly the hack of the hot water. I finally figured that for myself after a lot of cussin'! I wish I had seen this first...
My pleasure. No kidding, I wore my fingers out trying to fit those things together... that hot water was a life saver! Glad it helped out Dan.

I was wondering the same thing about the pressure and gph. I need to convert one zone of my sprinkler system to just drip system.

Looks super easy and simple. But dont you need to worry about any backflow debri getting into your sprinkler system?
Many thanks ! Very clear ! My sprinkler head is a sticking out the soil type, can I use the same converter or connector ?
You bet! I'm not familiar with that type.

So you basically created a 2 in 1 solution right? Your sprinkler rotor sprays and the drip line drips?
Yes, they operate simultaneously. Thanks!

Yes, must be reduced to about 30 psi
@@oldarkie3880 Funny, there's no mention of pressure reduction in this video. I'm not arguing--just wondering why.
