I wish they would add a war flail. It’s actually similar to a pole arm type weapon, has more reach, can strike around shields and guards, and isn’t a hazard for its wielder. Look up war flail kendo match.

Best Ashes of War for any of the normal Flails is Wild strikes, Two hand it make it Heavy and put wild strikes on it then buff with grease or whatever weapon enchantment you like i reccomend bloodflame blade.
I love flails. Finished my first play through with the nightrider flail with hoarfrost stomp and the winged scythe. They are unique, fun to use, and plainly just make for a cool looking character. Forget swords, fear the Tarnished who approaches you with a flail and malicious intent!

I absolutely fell jn love with flails they feel like how it felt to play with the baldur stratight sword or the halberd and lucerne in dark souls 1 it just clicks and feels so good to switch up and play with. Default normal flail is my absolute favorite its like what the low fantasy designs of the previous games some of the other flails and even other weapons get these goofy proportions that feel bulbous sometimes. Love my a nice coean flail swinging all over the place

You probably noticed while editing but that Spinning Chain Nightrider Flail you used that did barely any damage was +0, completely unupgraded. I tried a dual-wield Arcane Chainlink Flail build recently because it seemed to be the most optimal build type for flails but man it was disappointing. Even on an optimised build they are just dragged down by that awful moveset coupled with the short range. I used Poisonous Mist on the off-hand flail and Barbaric Roar on the main-hand one to have a ton of bleed, poison, and hyper armor. Even all that could not save this weapon type. Bastard's Stars is by far the best flail but exclusively because of its AoW. I made a build once with Wing of Astel in my main hand and Bastard's Stars in my off-hand, that's the only build in which a flail is actually good, imo.
4:25 had the +25 here I must've accidentally switched it lol But yeah its really sad that no matter what you do flails are simply lacking to the point where an optimal build doesn't feel optimal
@@monkwashere yes it would , I would use it on a double whip build on an off hand hoslow whip to mess with people or do it on a main hand Umi whip because that whip is one of my favorite weapons and I think it would be funny to combo the spinning chain ash of war on the Umi into its long stab attack

When you were using the Nightrider Flail to showcase spinning chain, your right hand flail was totally un-upgraded! I found that the difference between Keen and Standard on a Dex build with a +24 Nightrider Flail was about 50 damage or so. So that's all you lose if you don't run it on Keen.
The powerstance moveset isn’t that bad. Just from watching your vid, can easily tell that it basically has built-in roll catch of sorts with the staggered attacks.

Bastards star should have mini waves of darkness on heavy, 1 uncharged, 2 partially charged, 3 fully charged. Just to make it feel more comparable to it's curved sword cousin.
My first ever time playing eldin ring I used a flail that did bleed damage and the weapon’s ability just span the flail In a circle so I upgraded arcane and would as close as possible and just spin the flail right in the bosses and ads face that just did damage pretty fast and stacked the bleed quick and did a lot of damage because I had it +25😅 since the flail is just spinning quick and I had arcane up a bit it was pretty fun and funny to use especially when helping my brothers fight bosses 😂

Doesn't appreciate flails... I think they're supposed to be a shield weapon, I just feel like the guard counter is to work with it since it can't be parried anyway. Also Bastard's Stars my beloved. How many times I have killed an invader when they try to rush my astrologer and either don't know, or forget the ash of war. I think flails are also basically for hyper aggression, can't be parried, so you just habe to stay right on top of them and spam. Also jingling my pretty flail through the scary catacombs.
I love whips in this game, but more than new whips I think they need more ashes they can use. Some whip/flail specific ones, like a hit that curves around shields would be appreciated
Some stuff i want to come in the dlc is more status weapons that can be infused , I would love 3 new dragon breath being deadly poison or even just regular poison , madness breath that does fire damage and madness build up and it would do a lot of build up to you as well and I would love a black flame dragon breath that does fire damage and the black flame effect , also I kinda wish you could put shield crash on collosal weapons because they are big enough for it and it would be funny , plus it would be a good mix up in pvp in my opinion 🤔
I'm really disappointed with flails as a whole, first off the nightrider flail is way too small, and they're unique, but don't have anything going for them Maybe if they had something flail-unique like having a natural winged sword ffect where each hit does more damage because momentum or something or, again, having them bigger, like I'm just imagining a long flail with the same ash of war animation as the giant's red braid or the nox flowing hammer. There's a lot of potential and I hope we can see more from them
i had a good time with the family heads on one of my playthroughs, but the sound of the flails clinking around really annoys me for some reason so i never use them anymore u_u (also their moveset sucks)

I believe the best use of the flail is by holding R2 on Torrent. Free continuous hits that usually proc bleed.

They recently buffed it to be a bit more distinct from wing. Their nebulas also work differently.
