Just traveled through Germany in our M3lr from UK and found most people travel between 100 to 120 mph on the autobahn. Driving discipline is very good compared to the UK where its just a free for all. Driven through california and most of Europe and find driving back in the UK to be by far the worst 😐
Yep and yet we have the most moaners about speed camera's and that, which if they thought about it, are only there because of the general shocking level of driving skills in the UK. Nottm ring road was dangerous until the average speed camera's went up.

Flashing the brake lights when you are braking hard should be a requirement in the US too. Often a challenge to try to quickly gauge how you need to react when you see brake lights come on a little ways up when on the freeway.
I think that the US needs to have a rule about hazards turning on when ABS activates, indicating slick streets. People behind you would have so much more warning before they just plowed into the back of you because they didn't know it was slick.
in a old car or when the trafic have come to a stop you use the hazard light..

US lighting regulations are weird anyway. Orange position lights are mandatory but hey, brake lights can be indicators, no problem 🤔

On my way home from Italy this year, I took every opportunity to drive at full speed in my model 3. There were so much traffic and roadworks that’s bladder still had shorter range than the car. :)
Haha yeah when I see people talk about 300 or even 400 miles being good range target on a car, I think wait my bladder can barely make it to 200miles 😂

Drove from Norway to Italy with my Porsche Taycan, came back to Norway three days ago. 6000km.
I had one over heating after top speed driving from Munich to Hamburg and then Ionity supercharging up to 268kw. The fans went crazy haha :D
BTW, no Tesla driver was able to go past me. Porsche Taycan for the win!

20 years ago we would drive to and Italy in my 10 year old civic hatchback, just flooring the poor thing though Germany all night at 200 km/h (then it could). I don’t think it is possible anymore. Of course back then there wasn’t speed cameras.
And nobody thought about environment, pollution, children, asthma, price of petrol, nothing. I was the same, 30 years ago. Those are past times.

Another great video! Thank you! Makes me want to plan another trip back home to Germany, The Taycan Sport Turismo GTS seems to be the sweet spot in the model lineup. I drive a Cross Turismo turbo S since since it was the only one available in the US when I purchased it back in September 2021. I absolutely love it. Such a great looking car and extremely fun to drive. Plus 3 years of free charging at electrify america.

Overheating is an issue unfortunately. Did a buddy road trip with a M3P and a Taycan Turbo S.
Taycan started permanently rapidgating after the second charging stop, only to recover at night after we reached our hotels.
Where the M3P just kept on pulling, temporarily throtteling after 10-15 minutes of flooring it and miraculously recovering while super charging.
There's still plenty of catching up to do for our premium car makers, props to the Tesla - which at less than half the price not only kept up all the time, but delivered consistently.
you could find an allocation if you shopped for a different dealer elsewhere in the country and then just doing the porsche delivery experience in LA or Atlanta.

Can't imagine this to be a challenge, as the Model 3 Performance is a pretty good match up for the Taycan already. Porsche needs to come up with a Plaid contender yet.
Hi Kyle. I drive a Taycan CT turbo. Lots of long distance trips. Innodrive set at 150 kM. Sometimes I go faster. Avg consumption since April (after switch to summer tyres) 24 kW per 100 kM.

Range is also significantly reduced in an ICE car when driving at very high speed for extended periods.

@@THjorth ICE usually means gasoline/petrol. You can't get 500 km doing 200 km/h in your 330i
I just completed a 6,000 mile US road trip in my 2021 Model 3 SR+
Over 13 days of driving (July 10 through July 31, 2022, with time in Kentucky) from Sacramento CA to Louisville KY and back (with numerous side trips), I drove nearly half what I drive in a year.
The final analysis: Wow. This is definitely a road warrior vehicle, despite so-called “conventional wisdom.”
I am still plugging in metrics and numbers, but I estimate about 60 charging stops. In all those stops, I only had ONE 5 minute wait, at Glenwood Springs, CO. One. 5 minutes. I’ve waited longer in a grocery store line.
I drove through and charged in major cities (LA, Amarillo, OK City, Little Rock, Memphis, Nashville, St. Louis, Kansas City, Denver, Salt Lake City) and countless small towns and wide spots in the road. Typically, I was either the only one there or one of two Teslas. My typical stop was 20-25 minutes. Enough time to have a short walk about, use the bathroom, grab a bottle of water, and then get back on the road (the breaks, and auto pilot, assured I’d be rested and relaxed after hours of travel).
Weekdays, weekends, rush hour, nighttime, huge supercharger (50+) or small (4), interstate or blue highway… I drove and charged through them all. No cherry picking.
~60 superchargers. 6,000 miles. 13 days of driving. In July 2022. One wait. 5 minutes.
I can’t speak for others. But a complete success in my book.
@@excelrobot Ha! No, none of those happened to me.
I was at two different locations where an ICE vehicle (a pickup in both cases of course) was taking up one charging spot. Fortunately it didn’t prevent anyone from charging in either instance, at least while I was there. And in Tooele, UT, a Model X pulling a trailer pulled in and took up four charging spots. Again, it didn’t affect anyone, at least while I was there. And there were only two instances of a charging station not working.
But none of those situations you described occurred.
In late June, we took my wife’s VW ID.4 PRO on a 10 day trip from Sacramento to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and then Zion National Park. She has three years free unlimited charging at Electrify America which we used extensively and without problem. The only non-EA charging was in Kanab UT, where we plugged into a ChargePoint. Again, no issues.

Awesome idea with Plaid versus Taycan test on Autobahn. Europe is still waiting for Plaid to arrive. When it does, it needs a Autobahn safe brake kit installed from factory. Tesla is committed to safety so brakes fading at legal speeds on the Autobahn is just not acceptable.
Plaid will be faster/quicker but the Porsche will be more stable and comfortable at the limits

After completing 4.500 km on European roads at mostly 130kph or lower, I must say that no Tesla overtook me. So, don’t know where Teslas drive 160-170kph. 🤷♂️
Same. No Tesla drove past me from Norway to Italy and back home again. Tesla owners drive in the right lane :)

I drive 130 on the right lane because i can. Because i have the time, because i don‘t have to proof anything to anyone, not even to myself.

Apparently the drivers in Germany like to drive in the HI SPeed left lane & not move over to trailing traffic, so what is this courtesy thing Kyle is talking about?

You were right when you called the car a weapon at high speeds. I'm an American who has lived in Germany for a long time and I do sometimes drive fast...but I define fast as 160-180 km/h. At that speed you are almost always passing almost everyone. It's legal and surely an adrenaline rush but driving 250+ km/h is dangerous. Its just a crap shoot. Think about it - if someone going 180 km/h pulls out too late for you to see them, it'd be like hitting a wall at 70 km/h. And most people are going much slower than that. So you would hit the average car pulling out at a speed difference of 100 km/h or more.
Just because it's legal doesn't make it safe or smart. I enjoy most of your videos but please don't endanger me and my son on the Autobahn for your UA-cam video.
I agree... I've seen a couple of cars meet their demise hitting bridge supports on the autobahn at high speed... not pretty, and you couldn't tell what kind of car they were... No chance of survival... And I'm surprised that Kyle doesn't have a healthier understanding of animals getting onto highways -- including deer in Germany (about 220k traffic accidents each year in Germany via deer hits).
If you crash into something at 180 km/h you will be just as likely be dead and not recognizable as you would with 250 km/h…

It's nice that Porsche offers a wide variety of paint colors for the car, unlike some EV manufacturers.
Not just a wide variety, Porsche will paint your car in any custom colour you want.
There are only a few colours that Porsche can't do because of a deal they made, an exclusive colour for a specific customer.
For the price difference, they had better. $200k for a slower car with worse efficiency and less range than a Plaid? You gotta get something for that money.

Yes please on the Plaid vs Taycan. What is so much fun about the speed it’s actually safe as they adhere to staying over in the slower lanes and only passing on the left. I have come across the ones that think they are doing their part to slow you down to which i say in CA we have to pass on the right because they don’t read slower traffic keep right. I have been driving Teslas since 2015, and got a ‘21 Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo. It’s such a special machine for those who love to drive. The build quality is exceptional too. Going deep into the battery on long road trips and pulling crazy power at the chargers (when EA stations work!) 😅

I didn't realize Sport+ had an effect during DC charging. I'll have to try that out next time I'm at a 350kw charger!
Sport+ might warm up the battery first before cooling it down aggressively. Not sure about Porsche but Teslas actually warm up the battery in plaid mode to get Max output and Regen from the battery. Please let us know here too how your test goes

If the recommended speed of 130 km/h is significantly exceeded, you must expect that in the event of an accident, you will be held partially liable. The insurance company will claim part of the damage from you (20-30%), even if you are not at fault.
You have to prove that the accident would have happened even at the recommended 130km/h and was unavoidable, with comparable consequences, which is hardly possible in most cases. I am not a lawyer, but as far as I know, this is the legal situation, simplified.
There have been cases of people crashing into a car on the left lane going 200+km/h and the victims just 120kmh, and they were acquitted cause they couldnt have reacted in time

no need to talk about insurance, people are more fucked then a insurance can do anything about.
@@Hansen710 With today's high safety standards in cars, you are not automatically seriously injured in high speed accidents, there are many reports of such accidents and lawsuits with the insurance companies. The point is that your braking distance is too long and your remaining speed is e.g. still 50km/h or even less, which would not be the case if you had driven slower.
If you crash into the end of a traffic jam at 200km/h without braking, of course you don't have to worry about your insurance.

@@johnpoldo8817 the culture has change, it was common People drove 150-160 mph in the Old days. But you Can be charge for reckless driving, regardless the High speed is allowed. Today 80-100 mph is more common.

Putting the camera in the position so the speedo cannot be seen makes no sense on an autobahn run video to me.
What was the consumption of this route?
I love the all-metal roof... Why can't we get that in the US??? Also, I wouldn't drive high speed at night on the autobahn (or anywhere); animals, etc.... I'd suggest driving the autobahn near sunrise in the summer, which is like 4-5 am local time, I think; it's light out but very little traffic.
The Germans have tunnels for the animals that allow them to safely travel the autobahn corridors.

What about the elephant in the room? - the Taycan battery damaging, cheap, onboard charger issue? Reports, especially from a Porsche whistle blower and others, seem to confirm that Porsche continue to ship around 60% Taycans with this built-in problem. As reported by The Electric Viking - Sam Evans recently.

@@abraxastulammo9940 Rather than respond "Trump" FUD style to disparage what seem to be reasonably credible reports, I'd want to know more about these LG Chem/Energy Solutions battery cells - that still seem to be involved/cause many failures & fires in Porsche Taycans as well as a range of other EV's (GM Bolts still catching fire after being recalled to replace LG batteries etc) -and the Porsche 800V DC cell overcharging & 12V battery failure problems, before buying a Taycan or, strongly defending the brand. I'm sure you are aware that Porsche is VW? I think you will agree that VW Group have been caught lying to their customers on grand scale before- "Dieselgate" etc. Either way, good luck with the over the air software update that Porsche issued a manufacturer's recall over for Taycans, that was supposed to "fix" these battery issues, but then required the cars to be taken to a Porsche dealer as over the air didn't/still doesn't? work as promised and even then, apparently didn't "fix" the issue after all.
@@petertf03 Fix was for 12V battery, so don't confuse it with bolt issues. European LG batteries come from Poland and never had those production issues.
