Tony P don't EV's use electric boosters? Definitely that's the reason for diesels to use an alternate system, but I've had several gas powered duallies that had hydroboost as well.
You didn’t miss it. I work in the same field and have friends who work for att, and the older trucks are ordered without ac or thwack is removed. I was told it was so the techs wouldn’t just sit in the ac. And the round thing on the side holds a spare key to the vehicle.
Drove a truck 21 years Randy really appreciate the shout out work for a company out of Missouri called Pasha distribution services all cars from east coast to West Coast Boston Massachusetts to San Francisco and Seattle Tacoma
It is definitely a key holder on the side of the truck. It made things simple if the service vendor needed to pick it up for servicing, or if you had to leave it at the shop after hours. There is a round hole cut in the fender and a pocket behind the lock where the key and fob would be stored. I drove an AT&T fleet car for a couple of years. The cars were serviced by a third party (at least where I was from) and they would get your next level supervisor involved if you did not bring the vehicle in for service on time. They're going to be in good mechanical condition, but most are trashed on the inside with food, cigarette ashes, dirt, etc. Most drivers did not take good care of their cars. Many have generators or power inverters built in. Some have a built in wifi unit and a laptop safe too. They also have GPS hardware which I would remove right away if I bought one of these vehicles. Some are sent away without emptying them at all, and often have expensive tools or ladders depending on the area they came from, and what the driver installed. I've seen uverse remote controls and set top boxes, wire, connectors, and DirecTV equipment as well. All usually sit for months on the Copart lot before they are listed for sale and their batteries are dead as a doornail. "Surplus" means either a technician position was eliminated and the vehicle was retired, or it hit a mileage or age threshold and was sent back. I've seen T vehicles at Copart with less than 10,000 miles.
Back in the day, none of the AT&T trucks had AC. This kept the techs from sitting in their trucks to cool off while burning up fuel. Up until last year a guy on my crew still didn’t have AC in his truck but most of them do now. New technology allows upper management to monitor a tech’s vehicle idle time nowadays.
👍Love these sublot videos👍I look forward to them ever since you started doing them! The utility vehicles, semi tractors, boats, & RVs are up my alley! Thanks for sharing Randy!!
Up until the late 2000s there was not a mandate where most fleets had to have vehicles with air conditioning in them. what utility companies did was right before the Mandate bought a lot of vehicles without air conditioning because they said that if they had air conditioned the technicians were more than likely idle the trucks more "enjoying" the air conditoning rather than doind the work in turn spending more money in gas and also lower product productivity because they were sitting in the air and not doing the job they were assigned to do but in the late-2000s OSHA pass the law where a big Fleet had to have air conditioned trucks. The hydro boost were on some trucks used to haul splicing trailers, arrow boards, and cable reel trailers.
Tow companies very often have to disconnect the driveshafts for towing on commercial vehicles of that size. You see if often in Ron Pratt videos. The F450's have an option for a built in tow rig. Mounts underneath the bed allowing you to drive it like a real truck but still gives you a free 'tow truck' for picking up cars that don't run. A few of the 'Asset Recovery' companies use them around here for stealthily swooping in and towing away repo cars.
Randy I like the 18 wheeler carnage... I drive them and mechanic on em. Those at&t trucks are kept up nice.. GM use Hydraboost on their HD2500 trucks for commercial trucks... trailers rot under windows when they leak.. randy you need to keep the 7.3L powerstroke it's better than anything newer stop listening to the people that dont know what their talking about... the 7.3L powerstroke is a million mile engine if you dont screw em up
The '19 KW was an automatic. Randy dont be intimidated about starting a tractor. Same as any other diesel. I washed big rigs as a 2nd job at a beverage company. I drove them around their property to move them in & out of their building. Its was fun to learn how to park them.... I dont have my class A & I never hit anything. Good thing you're not a paramedic, undertaker or cop (smells).
I know a guy who has a couple of those ex AT&T trucks he uses for his business. They re pretty decent and cheap for what you get. Ive seen a channel on here, big Als bike & auto that buys and sells auction vehicles. He's flipped quite a few ex AT&T Malibus and made a few dollars.
Not sure how I feel about the 18 wheeler content, but it’s probably an underserved market. Also, are you a paid spokesperson for at&t in the episode ? 😂
I drove truck for 10 years. Definitely takes some getting used too. Some drivers are pigs. To give you an idea of the strength of those trucks. That front axle is good for 12,000 pounds. And yes all trucks need that extra oil in the side box as well as coolant, 5th wheel grease. Even new trucks burn oil. That's why every pre trip inspection you check your fluids. You do a pre trip inspection multiple times a day.
In UPS Package cars, the one you see delivering to residential homes, also do not have any A/C. The only vehicle that had A/C are the guys in the tractor trailers
@@jimnielsen4076 I'm shocked, I guess I won't be complaining anymore.I know they usually respond to calls nearby for the most part, but I would have thought they for sure would have a/c, especially with the gear they have to wear.
@@davidtran4760 I was really surprised too. I forgot above to write $ 500k each. I thought they would for anyone getting heat stroke (I know they use water to cool down too) or just for comfort doing building inspections, flushing hydrants..... It might be tradition?
Not all of them, just the sleeper cabs. So that the driver can park up and take their federally mandated rest breaks even if there's no truck stop in sight.
You need to keep the 7.3 F-250. As you can see yourself with over 300k miles they are some of the best most reliable longest lasting trucks made. As I've told you before a company named Katskin makes a leather kit for that truck. You order the kit for about $1000-$1500 & Katskin ships the kit to a OKC installer & they install new leather covers on all your seats. Even @ $2000 that's still way cheaper than a newer truck.
That f450 probably had a rack on the back and from over time it just took it wear on the box, I replaced a box on a 2016 f-350 cause the rack on the back was too heavy and they drove it on the forestry roads all the time and it almost broke the box in half
I work in telecom. They beat those service trucks to hell. And they idle for hours, even if they don't have many miles. But they do service and maintain them. Talk about a great survival truck though.
Most road trucks become dump truck when there older .Just remove the sleeper, fix the back of cab ,of on a run bed. If the truck has a flattop (not a tall sleeper) I hall them out of copart on a 30foot rowback all the time.
Don't Listen to the nay sayers the F250 is great for your needs, It's a clean reliable work truck. Love the people who advise you when there not paying for things. Little Aussie Follower ....
Randy , get yourself that F450 it fits your style and looks good for you.. you can make great content and get that nice diesel running like new again!!
The last Truck send Western a email he all ready got anouf projects all tho . The F250 is excellent for what you due excellent motor your not going Cross Country with Heavy load's all the time . The F350 extend cab Dually with 7.3 and Six Speed got plenty power I pulled lots of load's with Heavy Equipment and either Truck to Car's .
Granted the '14 Kenworth I drive is a Natural Gas truck it still eats ALOT of oil. I always figured it was the type of oil it uses but now I'm thinking maybe it's just a kenworth thing. 😂
Hail damage to a seal, seam or creating a tiny hole is all it takes to cause major damage to a camper. I've seen it too many times. Water always finds the tiniest of dings creating a waterfall of issues.
Great video. Hey Randy I’m not sure if you want to help... but we are half way to the goal for Mandy’s GoFundMe. If you could make a video and/or community post to it that would be greatly appreciated
Love showing the big rigs up for auction! The Freightliner dump truck looks like it might be a good buy. The damage to the suspension might be worse than it looks. It being about a 90s model probably not worth it so insurance totaled it.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 12:21 mins a SQUAREBODY CHEVY or GMC truck with service body on left, over 30 yrs old last onemade in 1987 or so, missed that one RANDY>>>>>>>>> an oldie but goodie, those service bods are popular with contractors and such they add a topper to seal it up .how much they go for??????
Randy, hydroboost has nothing to do with fuel type; it's for heavier duty braking systems. That's why you see it on one ton trucks and above.
Used on diesel and EVs that don't produce the vacuum required for a standard brake booster or when extra boost is needed.
Tony P don't EV's use electric boosters? Definitely that's the reason for diesels to use an alternate system, but I've had several gas powered duallies that had hydroboost as well.
I've seen them on restomods when the LS swap doesn't produce enough vacuum to properly assist the brakes.
@Tony P yeah anything with a high lift cam can't generate sufficient vacuum.
Correct, my 04 avalanche just your run of the mill 5.3 had the hydro boost. However, my current 03 avalanche has a vacuum operated system
My family got 50% off of a brand new camper, because it had some minor hail dents on the roof. Hail campers have the potential to be great deals..
I love waking up on a Saturday opening UA-cam and seeing this as my first recommended video

Granite City is in Illinois . Very Close to the City of St Louis Missouri but definitively in Illinois . I work there almost everyday.
As a truck driver, I can appreciate your content about the Big One...
American semi's are crazy compaired with Euro trucks (the Netherlands)...
Great video liked the semi trucks
I was a little nervous when I started driving one but u get use to making wide turns

I've been driving one of them for almost 20 years. And yes now the time away is starting to get to me.
That F450 would be a fantastic project!!!
I use to be a swimming pool guy and my boss would buy those AT&T or similar trucks all the time he loved them
That Copart lot is HUGE.
I work on a lot of the AT&T trucks they were well taken care of all minor work
interesting content Randy good mix should keep everyone happy.
VG mixxing it up once and a while, now do AIRPLANES and Helicopters Co Part got them too?

I almost tossed my salad imagining the aromas from overripe garbage on that garbage truck
I guess we could say that trash truck is trashed 18:46
OSCAR the GROUCH wood have liked that truck for his own ....................
Ba dump bump tss

I personally like it,, spices things up!
@Lonnie G luv the way he pounded the hood out with a HF orange hammer and peeled the paint
I couldn't afford the tires on those big rigs much less the repairs!
Thanks again for sharing! Take care and God bless you all!
Always wear rubber gloves when entering a semi on an auction lot. I use to recover semis
Those AT&T trucks make good flips. A lot of people out there want those chassis trucks
That F450 sounded amazing :D
Just wondering how much more your neighbors gonna love you, should you end up buying an 18 wheeler and add it to driveway collection!!!😂

The hood latch is in the center of the hood under the grill. The grill is attached to the hood
No a.c. imagine the amount of old sweat in that cab yuck
Come on man I'm trying to eat you're not going to you're not going to open that with Oreos on the ground. Best laugh I've had all week
Can you climb up the side of that garbage truck on that little ladder and show us the garbage
Hail damage on a RV usually means roof damage, which.can be a huge issue if it’s leaking.
I never knew trucks had little beds in the back. That is amazing

In that Kenworth T680, You can buy a new Cummins X15 plus all the parts needed, And reinstall the interior parts from a rolled T680
I work in telecom. They beat those service trucks to hell. And they idle for hours, even if they don't have many miles. But they do service and maintain them. Talk about a great survival truck though.
That 2000 and the 2002 trucks will start right up, garunteed.
I had a 97 3/4 ton suburban with a 454 that had a hydra boost system
Those at&t trucks would be awesome for a lawcare service truck or a contractor/roofing truck
I would love to drive a semi some day
9:00 Base model trucks for ya, no a/c. same with my 91 f150
Good video.

I need one of those att trucks for a service truck for my mobile mechanic business
You should bring your own little jumper pack
Copart doesn't allow any tools in yard ,jumpac included ( no tools) . With covid you will be lucky to even get in yard ,
I’d enjoy seeing a Nissan Titan or Frontier, they’re underrated and easy to work on in my experience.
AT&T probably has plenty of time to service their equipment because they sure as hell don't take car of their customers.
Why can't you bring scanners to copart?
