When I was a kid my dad bought a 1952 Dodge 52 passenger school bus with a flat head Chrysler industrial motor and a 5 speed manual transmission (1st gear was a very low "granny" gear for driving very slow or getting started when pulling a heavy trailer. It was a nice, basic conversion with 4 bunk beds in the back, a small closet, a 5 gallon pail inside a small barrel that was cut down, bolted to the floor and made into a toilet. It had a sink in the kitchen area (but no running water, a 4 burner gas stove with oven, a gas refrigerator, a gas heater (plus the normal bus heaters), two original school bus bench seats and a table that dropped down to a full bed, and a big comfortable chair behind he drivers seat. I loved traveling all over the USA and Canada in it, and by time I got my learners permit I was driving it also. We never knew which route we were going to take or where we'd sleep. Dad always took his tool kit with him and if the bus broke down, we just found a place to pull over and he'd fix it. If he needed a part he'd hitch a ride into the next town, get the part and hitch a ride back. He always carried a lot of spare parts though. It was a simple motor and a transmission, not like today's big, heavy, complicated motors and transmissions. It was a cheap way to travel and explore some beautiful country, towns, and cities. If you were tired you stopped and slept awhile, If you were hungry, you cooked it on the stove. The food was very cheap at the grocery stores or even directly from the farmers. If you needed a bathroom, you didn't need to hold it or run for a bush. When I was older and racing I pulled a trailer and took my family with every weekend. No, you don't need a huge expensive RV. Go basic, it's much more fun.
In the UK we call them touring caravans and I have one that is just under 25 foot long and they are not as frightening to tow as it sounds. What I like about it, is that you can pull into a caravan park and drop the caravan off then you have your tow vehicle separate to do what you need to do. I prefer the caravan to a hotel but everyone is different in what they need. Santa's workshop is an awesome channel, I've not long subscribed to the channel.
That last Camper show you how deadly fires are, nothing burned inside but everything got covered in thick smoke and heat, was kind of amazing to see the devastation, and that is indeed a volvo engine in the last truck, i believe it is the standard 16 liter one
Randy, I’ve been a full time RV/boater for the past 11 years. What you’re missing about the value of the RV process is the total picture. When you travel by RV, you not only don’t pay for a hotel room, you also don’t pay the outrageous food bill for three square a day at a restaurant. Plus your resigned to eating what they produce rather than what you might choose. For us, that’s huge. Not being critical but it is obvious you do like to eat. As you RV travel you decide what to eat, where and when. You also develop a food budget that fits your own criteria (be that what it may). Finally, you develop the bed and bedroom the way you want it and have extra sleeping quarters for family and guest. I’ve seen how you travel. Suggest that stay in hotels at $100 and up per night plus a hundred dollar a day food cost for you is not unrealistic. $200/day on a RV travel budget goes a long, long way. Enough said, if you want more realistic info, contact me and I’ll share the rest of the RV/boat living realities with you.
I enjoyed learning about the trucking industry and rigs. They should have the carnage section of this video required watching for driver's education to encourage motorist to give them respect on the road. Just because they are big and heavy, doesn't mean that the truck driver gets out of accidents without a scratch.
Several years ago, at LazyDays, in Brandon FL, they sold a large bus camper. The new owner drive it less than a mile to the Pilot station. They misjudged the turn, hitting the canopy supports above the fuel pumps, and taking out a couple of fuel pumps. The canopy collapsed onto the camper, and the damaged fuel pumps caught fire, burning everything to the ground.
Used to work at a ta petro as a diesel technician. Some of the trucks that came in where absolutely amazing. I learned real quick how to tell a company driver from an owner op. Some of those trucks were beat to crap. Its insane to see some of the trucks that were allowed on the road
Yes would be awesome to see more semi's or lorrys. Green engine is volvo, red is cummins, yellow is cat and just silver is detroit. And paccar is also silver. Keep up with the awesome content randy. Love your vids. Greetings from germany.
Absolutely keep doing this man, € bring Santa along with you, being a former otr driver it brings back memories of those days € of course the wrecks as well, great video btw, Arkansas here.
@@SantasWorkshop fortunately I'm able to help him, since I have a ton of parts for 3rd generation f body cars, I sold him the struts, shocks, end links, control arms, a bushing kit etc. Its his first project car. Its clean but worn out. And that 305 tbi can still get him sideways if need be. Thats why I used the line. He's got enough power to have fun with, but he's gotta get the suspension sorted before worrying about engine upgrades. He's just got his license so I'm just trying to help the kid out lol
That trailer is basically good for scrap, by the time you fully fix it you’ll have damn near as much as the cost to buy a good used one. Trust me, I work in commercial dealer body shop and look at estimates everyday.
@@calebbyers You use the interior and frame on something that has been shelled out (flood or wreck lower damage) and end up with an extra trailer frame...
You LOOK at estimates, you do not repair them or know anything about them You have no skills and never even attempted it. Period. You have zero. All a trailer is is sheetmetal and plywood. That is it. You can repair it with $200 at Home Depot and then have a vehicle graphics company match and recreate the wrap. If you think people buying a $70,000 trailer for $800 have the money to spend on a $70,000 trailer you're taking the piss completely.
When looking at the semi trucks. The engine will have its specs somewhere on the engine. That KW 660 with the Cummins had it on top drivers side under the air cleaner. Probably a ISX Cummins around 450 up,1800 pounds of torque.
RV is a life style so you're at $90++++ dollars a night for a hotel where you hope they cleaned your room well in a RV most State parks are around $25 a night with full hook ups and you're living area is clean as YOU cleaned it. On that Class C and A you looked at you can tow your jeep and have a rig to run around in.
Please do more videos on RVs and trailers. It brings back memories of my family going on camping trips to the Oregon coast with our Prowler trailer from the 80s. Hard to believe it’s been 10 and half years since our last camping trip.
Another great video always look forward to it I drive truck for A living since 2006 let me tell you a lot has changed truck drivers have less respect for each other and as far as RV drivers and camper drivers I have learned are some of the most dangerous vehicles on the road because people are not used to driving them and most times the camper is too big for the pick up they got pulling it I about six weeks ago one rolled over literally right in front of me on interstate 81 in Pennsylvania
i like it when you show around the big rigs also the engine colours go like this but in the next video do try and start the engine next time red: Cummins Caterpillar: yellow Volvo: green Detroit:black
i have a rv, as we travel a lot. but up-keep on a rv it not a lot. just keep it cover up, & keep a space heater in it. to keep it nice & dry. & just fire it up ever-mouth. but i say a rv is not forever one. for us it works out well. but that trailer would work well for you, but your truck can tow a bigger one.
If you see a good-looking lot lizard, it's a cop. As far as the destroyed semi, my guess is it was in one of those multi-vehicle pileups where it just kept getting hit by other trucks. The green engine is a Volvo engine.
Yes please! I'm betting the wrecked trucks were from the snow and ice storm where everything from Texas north were either wrecked or stuck. There are UA-cam videos of them wrecking
The Class A big Motor home was good for people like my parents with colon issues to have a toilet while going down the road. They have since sold it as they are too old to be traveling anymore.
Oh yeah I love this video.......I got a free travel trailer and I’m redoing the entire thing.......gonna be a lot of content on it.....my uncle had a fleet of big trucks and little brother drives all over Texas.....I know a lot of truck drivers as well......so any content similar to this video would be great.....😁
What mike said about cars taking the impacts. Semi trucks are not required to pass crash test here in the US and Volvo thinks having an airbag is gonna help
Sandra Westley from the uk I cannot understand anybody buying one of those either, a trailer that you can park then explore, it’s much more do able. You would have to tow another vehicle behind to use when you get to your destination.

Lol,,, the guy got to the wrong outlet,,,``sucked poop,!!!..Not calling the cops on the guy for he had enough for his sins!!!,,Santa is really funny with his stories. and I would love more of the trucks..
Hey randy I like the rv tours. Did you know you can get power to work on them with your jump pack on the towable ones the battery box is usually behind the propane tank and it will let you open and close the slide outs as well as use the interior lights. Great video and I like michael with you he's a hoot.
you pretty much can start a big rig just like a regular manual car, just gotta make sure the yellow diamond is pulled out first and its in nuetral. iwanna see more big rigs.
If you are very mechanical like my good friend is these are worth owning. when it breaks he fixes it himself. her pays for parts only if he can't repair or rebuild the appliance or part. It costs a crap load of money to have any service done to one of these. You are better off to buy a real one live prevost that has stainless steel panels on the out side. These are cool if you tow a small vehicle behind you so you can abort if it breaks.

The idea with rvs is you can have your own place and not need to unpack and into a hotel and everything. If you are doing a longer trip where you go to multiple places you only need to pack once. Maybe if you are going to one location then coming home it may be easier to stay at a hotel.

Thanks for showing something different today I love seeing Big Rigs& R Vs have a great day

I think this is intertaining Randy. Specially with Michael on it. Thank you
I love big rig content so please do more.
Cummins make green and red engines. They went an 8 year period recently where their engines were the color green. (Former Cummins employee)
Several years ago, at LazyDays, in Brandon FL, they sold a large bus camper. The new owner drive it less than a mile to the Pilot station. Well, seeing these trucks&RV:s is fun once in a while, as a change.
I would recommend STARTING the motor homes. Not just looking in them and leaving
Hey Randy just sprinkle the occasional RV and Big Rig videos it keeps it varied but not over saturated Thanks Randy & Santa for the assorted content.

Yes, I like to see the big stuff, too!
Love the change to rvs and truck .keep up the good content and enjoy Santa rock on Randy
Hi Randy, great to see you and Mike again. his channel is awesome also!

I agree. But maybe if the frame is good it could be converted to a flatbed or something, thats all I can think of.

You know Randy rebuilding an Rv. I’m not an rv guy but I would definitely watch that they do interest me, rv and boat houses do.
