Thanks for putting this up, Jay.....I view "Jay Leno's Garage" all the time and find it always interesting and generally learn a lot from each segment. Keep up the good work!
First off, I appreciate Jay bringing bike awareness to more people. That typed, two nitpicks: One, you drive cars, pilot boats and ride bikes. Second, the bike with the longest continuous production is the Royal Enfield, which also happens to be evolving very quickly - and (relatively) recently opened a new facility in Britain - both for engineering and production. I just watched another video on the new Husqvarnas and I'm really interested in these. I like the two reps from the company in this video. Thanks for producing this video!
No comment on the 401 after riding it? I had a 2011 ZX10R with a lot of power and also a 2009 Husqvarna SM510R with very light weight and perfect suspension. I can tell you that, for me, the lighter 500cc bike was a lot more fun on the road. Why? Because you could squeeze it till the last drop of power was used and still be within reasonable speeds, while the ZX10R was at Autobahn speeds in the first gear. For me big cc bikes are for cruising, touring with a pillion or when talking about sports bikes for the track. On the road I prefer light bikes with good suspension and enough power to have fun.
I actually just traded in my FZ-07 for a Vitpilen 401 and couldn't be happier. As a city rider (San Francisco) this thing is an absolute blast on city streets and for day trips up and down the coast. Don't let the smaller displacement fool you, this small bike is zippy and has more than enough power.
I drove Husqvarna 250s fully automatic in the Swedish army back in the beginning of the 90s. Great motorcycle. We drove them in the winter with skies on the sides. Great memories. Very reliable bike for sure! These look awesome.
I liked Andy Jefferson, he wasn't trying to hard sell these bikes. He was down to earth and was able to have a conversation without shoving these products, bikes, down your throat. And that would make me more likely to purchase one.
ktm owns them, their mx bikes are just different plastics, and subframe, also they sell alot more than bikes, not a small company really. Make very good products i like them.
Many years ago I owned a Triumph Daytona 500. In those days it was a "mid-sized" motorcycle. The size and weight was very close to the 401. I rode that bike all over Europe and up and down the east coast of the US. I wonder if it is time to downsize. I like these bikes.
I had that same bike and miss it dearly. It was a great looking and great sounding bike. It was as happy on a little path through a field as it was on a curvy back road.
I’m not a motorcycle rider but I truly like these bikes. Great CA bike to check out places you’d never go in a car. Might be fun to have one to run around with on a sunny day. The only problem would be which bike to get! Thanks Jay!
New rider? The 401. It's light and has nearly the horsepower of 650cc bikes back when they were the top of the line. Plenty of scoot and better quality. It will likely have better resale value, used.
Great episode. Wikipedia says that Moto Guzzi, also a small company deserving of a profile, is “the oldest European manufacturer in continuous motorcycle production”.

I love this company. I had a brand new 1975 Husqvarna CR 250. A beast of a motocrosser. What they’ve done here is brilliant. I wish great success for Husky.
I ride one. It is a unique ride experience. Back to the essentials, so much joy on it, so natural/easy to ride. The best commuting bike and high quality and grade.
Wow its so awesome of you to cover these, feels like I've been waiting for any kind of review of these bikes for ages! Their new bikes are to die for❤️❤️ Honestly did not expect to see them here! Kudos to you lol👍😁
I rented a 701 enduro in colorado and it was amazing. It power wheelied very easily (a bit less on pikes peak as air was getting thinner...). Was awesome in the trails, great on the road. People forget the importance of power to weight ratios. With that said I think their 701 should be at least 2k cheaper if they want to sell a bit of volume.
Wonderful review. I saw a 701 the other day and found it beautifully designed. You got to see it in the metal. I’m 74 and was a beginner rider on my sister’s 400 Yamaha when I was in my 40’s and this has gotten me thinking about the 401. Yes, they hit the mark for those design oriented folks. There’s a lot of subtle details in the design of these bikes. For example, the front turn indicator lenses look like faceted crystals.

We all know these Husqvarna 'bikes are about as Swedish as the Vienna Boy's Choir, and prior to that were made by MV Agusta, before being bought by BMW. However, in each case Husky always improved the donor bike / engine considerably, often making more power and sporting classy design and components. The Nuda is a prime example, as is their current range of off-road competition bikes. I've got a Husky in the garage and it's definitely got something. As long as they keep doing that I don't mind who the parent company is.
Ive allways admired Husqvarna's dirt bikes, they were allways top notch, its really exciting that they've put out a line of street bikes that preform as well as their off road machines. i've never thought that jay has ever done a show on a bike except out of having an honest interest in them . As Jay has enough to buy whatever bike he wants, not to mention decades of experiece riding & working on them, his interest in any bike always seems to me to be genuine & his opinion on any particular bike is allways well informed. His endorsement has to be earned through making a unique or quality product that meets some pretty high as well as practicle standards.
I bought a 2020 Vitpilen 701. What an awesome bike, I hope Husky sells a lot of these bikes. It’s not without its faults, but arguably the best bike I have ever owned.
Jay: "we like to invite these smaller companies who don't have platforms or money" also Jay: "so today we've invited Husqvarna, the internationally recognized company that makes thousands of different appliances and motor vehicles"
Like the spoked wheels on the 401's. I hope they are as sorted as the dirtbikes are! Looks like something that really could succeed with the younger generation.
Small company? Husqvarna belongs to KTM....a really small and unknown Austrian brand, they somehow bought some competitors.... smart little unknown company... 🤓
Sundar Srinivas Harish - The engines share a lot of dna but it’s not the engine. You have check your facts. Sorry. Built in the KTM factory obviously and share quite a few parts, but it’s not the 690 LC4.
I was rolling down the highway and saw a ford with some Husqvarna stickers and thought they really must like their lawnmower...I had know idea they make motorbikes.
Cant wait for my local dealer to get these in. Highly considering one of the 401's. Nothing like a zippy thumper to run around on. And I admire that Jay wears an old (probably an old favorite) riding jacket that has clearly seen better days.
yep i want a 401 too. i've been riding a 250cc thumper for a while but as a smaller dude, i hated the fact that anything i wanted to jump to would be probably double the weight. the 401 is literally the same weight as my 250cc but with significantly more power and acceleration. i'm into it!
Thanks Jay. This is the only good video online of these beautiful bikes. Ignore the snarky keyboard-pedants in the comments. Sorry the PR guys took 15 minutes to fail to say "vitpilen is a retro-futuristic cafe racer and the svartpilen is a scrambler". (difference is the handlebars and tires. I think the racer should have bar end mirrors.)
BMW sold Husky to Pierer Industrie AG, a holding company of Austrian investor Stefan Pierer, who owns 51 percent of KTM (Bajaj of India is the other major stakeholder, with 47 percent)

wewd Hell even before ktm they weren't small. Their lawn equipment is sold at most places. It's like saying Levi or Kraft are small companies. This video was about annoying.
I own a 16’ GSX-S1000 and a 15’ CBR300R and like Jay says it’s fun to flick the little single around on the right stuff. They are great around town there not fast but they are quick. They get up to speed easily! Then when I want to really get down the road I take the liter bike. Best of both worlds.
ktm is not a small company jay....now it really sounds like a commercial. plus husqvarna was not at the last two long beach much less the united states motorcycle shows.....
I have a 2020 of this bike, I remember watching this almost 2 years ago and thinking, nah, never. But when I saw it and got a chance to ride it, loved it. Thanks to Jay or I never would have even considered this bike. Jay, you need an open face helmet! That one doesn't even cover your chin bro! ;)
Dang Jay had no idea you were into motorcycles. It be awesome to ride with the guy let alone tour his garage. This guy's passionate about anything with wheels.
Well, I've got a garage full of bikes and I've been riding for lots of year and i've been waiting for these to come out ever since I saw the first photo. It looks like a really fun commuter bike for a springtime take-the-long-way-home ride. It's great to see some new ideas in motorcycle styling. Not every bike needs 150 hp.
Constantine P Nice tip. I'd missed him saying that and noticed a lot of "expired blinkers" in many of his vids. I'll lay off the judgement now because that totally makes sense. Good man.
Andy tried enough to explain tech stuffs and it was good to understand. The Problem is no one listen... Everybody knows it is basically a duke 690 with new styling. Husq added a cool concept to one of best modern single sportbike with beauty of simplicity. Nice.
I was thinking the same thing, it was pretty awkward watching Jay asking, “How would you characterize this bike?” He said small company but they needed two guys to avoid the question? LOL
That's because I don't think they were trying to make a "scrambler". I'd categorize the Vitpilen as modern cafe' and the Svartpilen as a urban explorer/adventure bike. Neither bike is anything like a "scrambler" to me. I grew up owning/riding scramblers and the way marketing has butchered the term is disappointing.
Two-Stroke Life but what’s the difference between an adventure and a scrambler? Aren’t they close enough to call them basically the same type of bike just marketed differently?
I wouldn't call it a scrambler though. That sort of bike is supposed to have some rugged capabilities. Those tires wouldn't last two minutes on a trail. My thinking is, naked street bike with some modern cafe sprinkled in.
All the bikes with the big husky 701/ktm 690 engine are $11k+ bikes. I wish I could afford a new 701 enduro/supermoto. Just waiting for a $7k used one. No one wants to give them up.
Good looking bikes. As a veteran motorcycle rider I must say it’s just amazing how the automobile industry spend millions on safety features and these motorcycles have zero . Yet we absolutely love them and love riding them!. Closest thing to flying without leaving the ground Please keep your speed down and ride safely
i've never really looked at husqvarna as an option for a new bike but i'm coming around to it now. i have to admit these do look pretty sharp. and i LOVE how light they are!

Jay: "we like to invite these smaller companies who don't have platforms or money"
also Jay: "so today we've invited Husqvarna, the internationally recognized company that makes thousands of different appliances and motor vehicles"
ooDirtyMickoo Owned by that tiny KTM nobody's ever heard of!
In the world of vehicle manufacturing they are a small company. Without the backing of KTM and exposure like this they would not be around anymore.
Husqvarna the motorcycle company hasn't been a part of the rest of Husqvarna for over 30 years.
Martin Schmidt and Porsche was owned by VW. Now you go! Let’s see how many we can name 👀
I love ktm's sheer willingness to cannibalize it's own market to get riders the bikes they want.
Most underrated comment of 2020!
I like the Husqvarna 701 Supermoto.awesome bike
its a boring KTM.
DudelPaul KTM stopped making the SMC though.
it looks super slick!! beautiful design
Wheelies for days!
They definitely have a hit with the 701 line. Just waiting a couple years to pick one up used.
Like the spoked wheels on the 401's. I hope they are as sorted as the dirtbikes are! Looks like something that really could succeed with the younger generation.
It was a pleasure listening to you guys talking so nice about them :)
Small company? Husqvarna belongs to KTM....a really small and unknown Austrian brand, they somehow bought some competitors.... smart little unknown company... 🤓
TIBORANGE the same 373 cc 44 bhp engine
Duke390 engine and the Duke690 engine
KTM belongs to bajaj one of the biggest bike makers in the world!
@@geeksden9302 doesn't belong to Bajaj, it's still isn't majority share holder.
@@geeksden9302 in india ,not global
They are owned by ktm they don't need advertising . they pretty much are ktm's
Nope
Sundar Srinivas Harish - The engines share a lot of dna but it’s not the engine. You have check your facts. Sorry. Built in the KTM factory obviously and share quite a few parts, but it’s not the 690 LC4.
@@peppa9108 It is not just KTM engine, the whole bike is KTM, with a different bodywork.
I have a Husqvarna leaf blower! It Scoots!
I was rolling down the highway and saw a ford with some Husqvarna stickers and thought they really must like their lawnmower...I had know idea they make motorbikes.
I knew they made dirt bikes but I never see them around.
I love my Husqvarna chainsaw! All’s I need now is to find a Husqvarna motorcycle in safety-orange to match.
Right I knew they made good yard equipment and sewing machines but not motorcycles then I looked into the history pretty cool!
I bet i blows
Cant wait for my local dealer to get these in. Highly considering one of the 401's. Nothing like a zippy thumper to run around on. And I admire that Jay wears an old (probably an old favorite) riding jacket that has clearly seen better days.
yep i want a 401 too. i've been riding a 250cc thumper for a while but as a smaller dude, i hated the fact that anything i wanted to jump to would be probably double the weight. the 401 is literally the same weight as my 250cc but with significantly more power and acceleration. i'm into it!
Jay Leno was in a Steel Pulse video... he genuinely likes to help people get up there.
I think the racer should have bar end mirrors.)
the end mirrors are an accessory / dealer option.
also the frames - RC vs Duke
Husqvarna are owned, designed & built by KTM.
They are not a poor company. They are excellent value for money.
BMW sold Husky to Pierer Industrie AG, a holding company of Austrian investor Stefan Pierer, who owns 51 percent of KTM (Bajaj of India is the other major stakeholder, with 47 percent)
They are *not* owned neither designed by KTM.
ansaree97 - KTM most certainly does own and design Husky.

Husky was a Swedish brand from the start and took everything in motocross due to the design quality. Too bad they were sold.
My dad raced supercross on a Husqie in the 70s. They are owned by KTM nowadays. Not exactly a small company.
thats cool mine raced one in the 80's 78 husky 390 bored to 460. bought it in 83 raced it till 89
wewd Hell even before ktm they weren't small.
701 is a good looking bike. Good job. Nice to see lightweight standard bikes in style.
nothing against him (Mr Heinz?) but i sometimes wish Husqvarna had sent the lead engineer to talk about these bikes instead.
ktm is not a small company jay....now it really sounds like a commercial. plus husqvarna was not at the last two long beach much less the united states motorcycle shows.....
15:28 - Haha, he was indicating left when he pulled off to the right
21:54 no helmet can handle the chin!
Yeah , I noticed that.
I have a 2020 of this bike, I remember watching this almost 2 years ago and thinking, nah, never. But when I saw it and got a chance to ride it, loved it. Thanks to Jay or I never would have even considered this bike.
Jay, you need an open face helmet! That one doesn't even cover your chin bro! ;)
My dad had some of these bikes in the 70s and I want one so badly.
Single cylinder thumpers are great ,my daily is a Honda CBR 250R .
Love the vitpilen 401, definitely one of the best looking bikes for sale today
I would love to see this company become more well known.
They are a household name for dirt bikes just not for the street bikes, yet, but i plan on getting a 701
Just think KTM😐
I finally got one, a 2022 Vitpilen 401. It's lovely to ride and it's the apple of my eye. The price in 2022 was $5399, down from $6299 in 2018.
Dang Jay had no idea you were into motorcycles. It be awesome to ride with the guy let alone tour his garage. This guy's passionate about anything with wheels.
Jay... had you not ever heard the term "naked bike"? Basically, skeleton framed without body work(fairings, etc.)
I really love the design!
Svartpilen, Silverpilen, Penicillin, you name it, we got the drug for you!
bill clinton's medicine cabinet is full of those
Yeah, but you have to read the small print in regards to the "side effects" of the drug. May cause wheelies, encounters with police, divorce, etc.
Hostile lmao
God damn, you're everywhere I go!
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Thank you, to those involved.
Unbelievable that they never mentioned the 701- SuperMoto !!! Jay is my Hero !!!
Jay, you're the man! Your channel is great! And I love those bikes! Cheers
These bikes reek of European practicality and styling. I absolutely love them !
Jay on two wheels 👍👍👍👍👍👌!!!!!
It's nice that you're showcasing these small obscure motorcycle makers. I mean KTM are practically a garage outfit.
"Huska-varna" lol
Yea, not even the company-guy got it right :-)
In Örebro? Gnällbältet :-)
lmao true... how we say it in canada too
Haha! Indeed! As a Swede, I die a little bit every time he says, "Huska-varna". :D
242Evangelion as an American living in Sweden it made me embarrassed to hear! Still, you guys say Darth Wader. :)
So Jay is one of those guys that always leaves his signals on LOL 😝
Not So Happy Camper ALWAYS
It was the Guy behind Jay.....
MrKdr500 look at the helmet.
+Not So Happy Camper
He does that to signal to the camera car...
I think he got tired of explaining that in his videos a couple years back.
Constantine P Nice tip. I'd missed him saying that and noticed a lot of "expired blinkers" in many of his vids. I'll lay off the judgement now because that totally makes sense. Good man.
I have the 701 Supermoto; freaking awesome bike. Wasn't sure I'd be that impressed coming from a Yamaha MT-10, but it's so much damn fun.
Really love the 701, I have two superbike Ducati's that I love on the track a 959 and a garage queen 1299FE. I would live a 701 for the street !
Andy tried enough to explain tech stuffs and it was good to understand. The Problem is no one listen... Everybody knows it is basically a duke 690 with new styling. Husq added a cool concept to one of best modern single sportbike with beauty of simplicity. Nice.
Husqvarna Vitpilen, because KTM Duke is too hard to spell ;)
I was thinking that as well!
Also Ducati Hypermotard 939 and Monster 797 are in same price range and weight.
Don't forget the MT-07 or Z650 or Ninja 400, all being twins of course.
Marketing guys avoiding saying the word "Scrambler"...
The 401 is priced ok. But 12k for the 701 .that's crazy. $7250.maybe.
All the bikes with the big husky 701/ktm 690 engine are $11k+ bikes. I wish I could afford a new 701 enduro/supermoto. Just waiting for a $7k used one. No one wants to give them up.
I wouldn't pay that for a single cylinder
And today you can find new ones under 10k easily
Can find new models with $7500 sticker prices everywhere......
401 sells for under $4k now
Good looking bikes.
As a veteran motorcycle rider I must say it’s just amazing how the automobile industry spend millions on safety features and these motorcycles have zero . Yet we absolutely love them and love riding them!. Closest thing to flying without leaving the ground
Please keep your speed down and ride safely
What are you talking about? It's got slip clutch and ABS on both front and rear. That's far from "zero" safety features.
i've never really looked at husqvarna as an option for a new bike but i'm coming around to it now. i have to admit these do look pretty sharp. and i LOVE how light they are!
steve lam I was on one today - like a big Grom but fast lol
