Really cool character. Wish they didn’t kill him off so fast.
I was personally hoping to be able to recruit him as an ally. It's not like we got much use out of the droid... Hehe. Good to see you Riley!
@@SWCentral ❤️
While I agree he was criminally under used, and hope they expand on him in novels or comics, his purpose was meant to show what COULD have been Cal if he let his obsession with finding Tanalorr and fighting the empire takeover, being a version of Cal that gave in to the dark side, and his obsessions
He should have been the final boss instead of bode I don’t like that in games that the villain they tease doesn’t become the final boss but someone else does
@@generalkcooper1005 Agree that is a modern day writing sickness. I mean you have to be a really really really blind person to think that Bode wasn’t gonna betray you during the course of the game. Dude had red flags all over him. Always vanishing saying fishy stuff and making the worst jokes like when you find a treasure „Let me hang on it for you.“ The most obvious part was that he is a traitor is after the Dagan fight. His comments speak for himself. Probably the worst spy I ever saw
Home girl cutting off his arm was crazy 🤣
Dagan's character is an example of obsession for a thing. The underlying theme of Jedi Survivor is obsession - Cal's obsession with fighting the Empire, Dagan's obsession with Tanalorr, Bode's obsession with protecting his daughter.
As for what Tanalorr meant to Dagan - it's so flipping obvious that he had feelings for Santari, but as Jedi they couldn't exactly demonstrate that - so they both poured it into Tanalorr. The way he pleads with her in their final encounter ("Come with me."), the way he allows himself to express his vulnerabilities in front of her ("Not one of my strong suits."), the way she teases him lightly and gently chides him on his lack of patience and intent to train younglings. They can't really be together because of the Order, so they pour that attachment into Tanalorr - she's able to relinquish it, though. He isn't.
Such a nuanced character, I seriously hope we get to see more of him through the High Republic series!
Love your breakdown! Perhaps you should jave wrote this video haha! Appreciate you.
@@SWCentral thanks! I've considered doing lore videos but schedule is too irregular for it 😅 love the work though!
Great way of explaining it!
What an insightful point! You can even add Rayvis obsession for honor, following dagan through centuries and wishing his own death in an honorable manner. The ninth sister is another character we can frame in this light. In fallen order they are a apathetic villain who comes to kill us without much thought but in the beginning of survivor it’s clear she is obsessed with revenge against us making her more desperate and unpredictable and even like a wounded animal lashing out in rage. Finally the fan base is clearly meant to become obsessed with Merrin the most obvious manipulation.
I find it strange exactly why we are forced to fight against Dagan Gera in the first place. Dagans' goals was to reclaim Tanalorr and maintain the Jedi Temple on the hidden world only for the Council to deny him this. Fast-forward to the aftermath of Order 66: The Jedi Order is in shambles, and Dagan is freed by a young Jedi Knight Cal Kestis: who's _also_ looking for Tanalorr in order to use it as a safe haven to help rebuild their Order. The Jedi who were involved in Dagans' incarceration have been long dead for centuries, and he's confronted a Knight who saw the downfall of their Order through dogmatism.
Dagan would have been welcoming to Cal, having seen him as a kindred spirit and as a second chance to finally fulfill his goal of starting a Jedi Temple on Tanalorr; this time as an unofficial Jedi Master due to his Seniority over contemporary Jedi like Cere Junda who would seek to maintain the storied history of the Order with the goal of using its' history as an abject lesson for future Jedi they would train: those that The Path would bring to them, or those that Bode would let slip through the cracks of Imperial Intelligence.
Yeah i thought the same too, why would Dagan fight the Jedi when the Jedi who freed him has the same goal as Dagan is to go to Tanalorr, rebuilding the Jedi Order, and gather allies to fighting againts the Sith Empire. That scene was didn't make anysense to me to be honest.
@@dimazfantasy5252 because Dagan already embraced the dark side before Cal knew what his plans were. If you played the game and listened to Dagan's motivation, his top priority was to get Tanalorr and reclaim at as his own and rebuild a new order to overthrow and rule the galaxy. The same mindset that anakin had, extremism. Dagan became obsessed with the idea of settling in Tanalorr rather than building a temple for the Jedi order.
@@JunichiTakeda-n8k bruhhh you think i don't know that i've listened to his motives. But at least the writers could make him be an allies with Cal Kestis at first and then when in the middle story he would then turned to the dark side. His flashbacks of how he loses his hand could have just shown when he fights the Nihils.
The Dark Side is based on Selfishness, greed, and obsession with control AKA Attachment.
Dagan Gera wanted a temple for himself, then a planet for himself, then an empire for himself.
Yeah, the writing for that part felt weak. I also disliked how the only people who hunted Dagan were Cal and Bode. Cere and Cordova could have easily come, defeat Dagan, and persuade him to join and help them. They didn't care that Dagan was their greatest hope for success. A powerful Jedi with knowledge of events over 200 years ago, who also has an army of skilled warriors and Separatist droids, who ALL hate the Empire. Like, wtf, that was a perfect alliance right there.
And the Empire is stupid too. They never sent the Inquisitors or Vader after Dagan. I understand Bode could have told them not to come, but the Inquisitors don't know Bode, and they don't report to the ISB, so nothing is stopping them from coming.
And why wasn't anyone able to sense Bode was a traitor?
Dagan Gera. A Dark Jedi so arrogant and snooty that he’d make the Sith Lord Dooku blush lmao. Despite that, he’s a really cool villain. When I saw him in the trailer, I didn’t really know what to expect; just that I wanted to learn as much as I could. It’s really a shame they had to kill him off so fast.
Great video brother! Looking forward to the next video or stream! Keep up the good work 👍😁
Thanks my friend! You I appreciate you. I would have loved if we could recruit Dagan as an ally. Imagine in the third game we could play as *Dagan* with his cool powers. Guess not... :(
@@SWCentral If only he listened to Cal and he could've been our ally and fight with him against the Empire
@@pepethefrog7229why did he hate the empire or did he see it's army as a disappointment(stormtroopers) for taking down the Jedi order
In the contrary he was more disappointed at the Jedi Orders (Clone Wars era) for let the galaxy falls into the hands of Sith Empire and saw the order as a failure unlike The High Republic Jedi Order from his era that more of a golden age and more better than the Jedi era now. He still hated the Empire though, he wasn't in the side of The Jedi nor The Sith he only side with himself and his armies of Bedlam Raiders.
Well he’s an arkanian and they are so arrogant it’s insane they believe they are the superior race
Dagan: pushes her with the force
Jedi Master: Best I can do is cutting your whole arm.
Like. Am I the only one that thinks that was overkill?
Dagan was right
He had killed several at that point.
@@AshanBhatoaHe did? I mean, weren't they being invaded?
@@thalmoragent9344 he killed Jedi for his plans did Yal get into the lore at all?
The crystal bleed out was badass
Honestly one of the game's best scenes
Dude gets out of Bacta, one arm missing, half naked and goes FUKDIS IMMA BLEED DAT CRYSTAL
He was able to also turn the force around him into a solid form as he did with his arm
I feel Jedi survivor is really 2 stories in one. As soon as Dagen is defeated, the story shifted to Kal’s friend being outed as a dark side user feeding information to Vader the empire. Felt very uneven. Would’ve loved to have explored more of Dagen’s character and more his reaction to the reign of the Empire
Its a shame he was killed of very quickly he could be a very cool character and we could've see more of his potential and character development. Since this is the first time we get to see a Jedi from era hundreds years ago in canon whilst we always get to see The Jedi Order from (Clone Wars Era) only. Hopefully in The Acolytes he will make an appearence and hopefully we will see more of him.
wait, 200 years "ago" yoda was already 600 years old, and a jedi. probbably already in the council. this means... he took part in denying Talenorr to become a safe heaven... and he also knew of it all along during the empire years, and could have gone there instead of dagobah?
HOLY SHIT! Tanalorr is fucking doomed is what this means xD
Yoda is a little bitch, he also decided to hide the Nameless from the order because "b-but what if bad people get their hands on them 😟😟😟"
@@SWCentral seems like any place is better to go both in exile and to create a new temple, than talanorr - that beutiful, full of life, round, giant vergeance into the force shielded by a nebula, that no one can access except those who have the key...
@@corujabiruta3732 You watch, Tanalorr will be another victim of the death star that Disney adds in at some point. Let's meet back up here in 3-4 years when the sequel comes out to the game.
@@corujabiruta3732 The Jedi believed the compasses to Tanalorr had all been destroyed like they were meant to be right? The only reason any were still around was because Sentari kind of went behind their back to preserve some of them in the vain hope Degan would change and out of her own hopes for Tanalorr.
Confused as to why a secluded, hard-to-get-to place wasn't considered by the Jedi Council.
I mean, even if not used to train anyone, could've been a spot to hide from the Empire had the likes of Yoda (who was almost certainly on the Council 200 years ago) actually given it some thought, honestly
Why would they need it?
The Sith had been extinct for 800 years, the Hutts and Zygerrians were behaving themselves, the Mandalorians were between Civil Wars...
Traditionally, when there was a Genocide against the Jedi, there would be an Empire intending to destroy the Republic FIRST. Palpatine came after them in a completely different way than they had seen before.
And as to "hard to get to"... they ordered it abandoned because there was nothing there but a few buildings and the Nihil knew where it was. It was a liability, not a haven.
Yes, Yoda was on the Council then. So was Yaddle, Yarael Poof, and Oppo Rancisis. Four people who tested Anakin Skywalker too. The High Republic series is really great. You should read it.
The jedi from the high republic is like 13th century warrior but the thing is not like the jedi in the old republic
13th Century Warrior?
The High republic Jedi didn't fight Sith right? Because the sith had been extinct since then.
Also regarding Dagan's species, it has been confirmed that he is an Arkanian Offshot (the genetically engineered sub-species of the Arkanian) in the wiki page through The High Republic Character Encyclopedia.
I was actually confused a little about his species name. Thanks!
Imagine if they found Revan in a bacta tank. It would have been a game over for Palpy.
I know it's probably just the shock or whatever but I find it weird that after dagan gets his arm cuts off he passes out immediately, especially considering how powerful he was supposed to be. Plenty of sith and jedi have lost limbs and they were fine. Although this was over 200 years ago so maybe it's a bigger deal,I don't know
Anakin passed out pretty immediately after dooku cut off his arm
@@nobleactual7616 True I forgot about that one. Dooku had both his hands cut off though that doesn't seem to be as bad as losing an arm.
@@adambarnes49 I bet it would be
@@nobleactual7616 yeah
Wounds in this game tend to hurt seriously, and I'm kind of all for it. Blasters kill you, sabers kill you. Disney Canon is kind of making those weapons seem weak.
I really need a show or something of him! He is really cool!
So ironic that the jedi are much better at turning jedi to sith
One thing I didn’t really get is why do they have call go “what did you do!” So seriously all he did was bleed his crystal🤣
I think in a Jedi's mind this would be a big deal, I think it was more the shock value as it was completely unexpected. But asking "why" first might have been better i'll agree hehe
cal has never seen bleeding and he probably didnt even know what it was. thats probably the reason for the big reaction
Kyber crystals aren't supposed to be bled. It's a dark side technique and violates the crystals' nature.
He should've waited to update him on reality.
He clearly just witnessed Dagan reliving a moment of serious upset, so he should've known that he would be vulnerable.
If he had waired so he'd've had some time to calm, then maybe he'd have resisted the pulll of the dark side, even if for just a little while.
I get why people want tanalorr during the modern era, but I don't get what made it so great in the high republic era that dagan was willing to kill for it. It was just a semi secret planet (not that well hidden if the nihil found it out of nowhere)
He could have easily worked with Cal to find it too, but instead he was like "I hate Jedis despite we both are looking for the same place to be at peace." 🤷🏾♂️
Back at the day the high republic was like an expanding empire, they loved conquering new planets and areas. So think of it like christopher columbus discovering america. Dagan the same thing. He discovered a haven planet and wanted to be remembered as the guy who discovered it. But the republic denied him his dream. Also he made a crazy flight through the abyss to discover it, nobody could do what he did.
@Zhello79 nope. He turned to the dark side years before he was imprisoned. He killed alot of Jedis, for 200 years he had hate for the jedi so when he was freed he poured his saved hate into the crystal
@@idestructiiion974 I know but if there was a route he could have easily done so granted they both were looking for the same place.
Then there's Bode 😐 lol
Am I the only one who thinks that Dagan and santari were a thing? The first encounter where she places her arm on him and begins to reach to her before the next sequence, felt betrayed by her the most, flashback before rayvis fight- "come with me!" Also santari not ratting him to the council and puts him in the bacta tank.
Very possible she had feelings for him but I'm not sure about the other way around :)
show more of the high republic
That dude was right-handed and it got cut off. He had to battle us with his left hand for the first time after being imprisoned in the bacta tank for 200 years. And still was able to fight well. Imagine his potential if it wasnt cut off.
He handed Cals and Bodes ass to them with a weak one hand lmao, unreal how crazy strong he was.
Is it just me that initially thought that Dagen lightsaber was bled to a red, cause weirdly even when u see the in game red lightsabers they are not crimson red, they are slightly lighter shade.
Or maybe i just discovered i am colorblind 😂😂😂
It does look red'ish when he first does it I agree... But later on when he uses it saber you can see it's clearly orange (The final fight cutscene for example). This might be Disney's way of showing fallen Jedi or dark Jedi, unclear as of yet. I would have preferred just red tbh :D
Nice video, just finished jedi survivor, it was great) what is the music playing in the end? It was so beautiful and so familiar I can't remember where I heard it before..
It’s Valkorion the sovereign theme :)
@@SWCentral thanks)
He looks like a teenage Thanos
@1:17 did they even NUHHHHH?
cody fern could easily play dagan in the acolytes pls make it happen!!!! we need video game/tv/movie cross over itt makes too much sense
I was a little disappointed with how Dagan and Zee were utilized. They killed Dagan off way too early instead of using him as a final boss and Zee ended up as a vendor. I think they could’ve done a lot more with both.
Dagan is a Jedi master
He was referred to as a Knight during the cutscenes :)
@@SWCentralyeah I know but his official rank was a master same as Santari, They were both masters of the high republic
@@DillyDabblez The wiki page for some reason now says he was a Jedi Master. I know the game specifically named him Jedi Knight. So unless wiki is citing a source or unless a high republic book came out that explains how he got the rank of master, then until then I really don't care xD This is the problem with Disney stuff. Not only is it unclear but the writing is not very good.
@@SWCentral According to The Jedi Path, a Master's ultimate goal is to be a positive force in the galaxy and to expand the influence of the Jedi Order. That kinda makes sense because Dagan was a explorer who founded tannalor and a lot of places in the outer rim I believe, his relationship with Santari is more of mutual respect in power rather than a Master/Student relationship
@@SWCentral I agree Disney Star Wars isn’t very good but Disney didn’t make this Respawn entertainment and EA are to blame if you wanna blame someone lol
What colour is dagans lightaber i cant tell if its orange or red
It's red :) it just appears orange in some scenes. I was also fooled!
@@SWCentral it was originally orange I think but he makes it bleed
I wish they would’ve developed his character more and shown more of his obsession with tanlorr also why couldn’t we get dagons lightsaber
Next up: review on jedi survivor. Please like this comment to come true 👍👍
Imagine if dagan became a liable ally
He could be Arkanian
Maybe!
Too many fingers.
@@Mourtzouphlos240it’s confirmed he’s a Arkanian offshoot
Ok ok wayfinders existed ill accept it lmao
Please do more videos on the high republic!
He’s an Arkanian Offshoot
Dagan's saber is red
There are some who agree it looks orange / red in different scenes. I'm sure it's meant to be red :)
They almost found out I'm from 1973 and I had to relocate
Seems like a waste for him to be an enemy they should had been allies imagine him being a mentor figure to cal throughout the game show what Jedi meant to be and good introduction of lore about the high republic through him instead of bits of pieces in the game.
Dagan Gera is an arkanian offshoot, a genetically modified race of the arkanians, who are like humans. The offshoots are used as slaves or living expirements.
Yeah but that info wasn't released/confirmed until months after this video came out :)
why did the jedi never recover dagen earlier?
I wonder this too. Perhaps everyone was assumed dead where he was held... Even then I think it's a stretch that no Jedi ever investigated before Cal. I think a few story points have not been fully thought through for the game, that being said, it's just a game and sometimes they do shit like this haha. I don't think it makes total sense yet, but perhaps the next game can help wrap up any loose ends. Such as why Yoda somehow was unaware of Tanalorr... If Jedi needed to hide, Tanalorr sounds like a great place for it and Master Yoda is 900+ years old, did he have no knowledge of Tanalorr? Did he know there was no way in without a "Key"? So many questions.
@@SWCentral its implied at a few points that tanalorr has some strange properties, maybe yoda knew of some kind of danger that the planet harbored and wanted to keep knowledge of its existence obscure for the safety of the order and its members, if that's the case, given how dagen behaved when concerning it, yoda may have suspected that leaving dagen was a painful sacrifice but one that had to be made to keep the hidden dangers of the planet away from explorers and jedi
since the planet is kind of hidden and difficult to access it may be interesting if some order or civilization hid the planet away to keep these dangers from harming expoleors or others, it would be a cool concept but we don't really know much about it at the moment.
@@dominien6487 Love it!
@@SWCentral thanks, i appreciate it
...because they thought he was dead and the only people who knew where he was were Zee and Santari. Zee was buried under rubble with the only device which could reach him.
"telekinesis" you mean force?
Force telekinesis is a thing haha
So no one thought to retrieve him lol
Jedi 1: Did we forget something?
Jedi 2: If we did, it wasn’t important don’t worry
10 hours ago
where is it stated in game that Dagan was in stasis for 200 years?
I found it. Databank 420 states - When the jedi council ordered Tanalorr and Koboh abandoned, Dagan Gera could not accept it. Despite Santari's protestations, he defied the council. Two hundred years later, his hatred of the order reached its conclusion as he bled his lightsaber and swore himself an enemy of the jedi.
Yeah bleeding the crystal is pure bullshit
Wait until you find out what Vader did to his lightsaber
@@Woopersolo And again, pure bullshit. I'll tell you how he _really_ did it. In the early days of the Empire, Palpatine gave Vader a synthetic crystal and his own lightsaber to serve as inspiration. Under the shadows of the first Death Star's construction, Vader focused on building his weapon resulting in the one we all know and love today
@@MrWill9002 what even is wrong with bleeding a crystal
@@Woopersolo For one, that’s not how the Force works you idiot. Second, crystals already have their natural colors. The properties come from different kinds of crystals. One’s personality has _nothing_ to do with it. 2. Sith use synthetic crystals because synthetic crystals gives lightsabers more power. True fans can spell it out for you easily
I'm glad zee stops being as relevant later on coz I found her annoying
Except, of course, it’s FAAAAAAAKE!
What a waste of a video. You spent the whole time telling me something I knew from just playing the game.
His entire story comes from the game lol. My Revan video would also be pointless if you've read all the books and played all the games. The real question is, why did you click on a video that you didn't need? There is no other content on Dagan as far as I know, other than the game.
