Cal Kestis was a young Padawan, scared and left alone following the death of his Master Jaro Tapal. Cal survived The Jedi Purge known as order 66 thanks to the willing sacrifice of his master. He then left the life of the Jedi behind, becoming a scrapper until he was again thrust into the fight against evil when that evil came knocking.
Cal would join forces with Jedi Master Cere Junda and alongside her, a plucky pilot named Greeze Dritus, the playful BD-1, and the forlorn, but exceptionally powerful Nightsister Merrin - the team would travel the galaxy together taking the fight to the Empire for years.
In this video, I will take a closer look at Cal’s journey from that frightened young Padawan to the formidable Jedi Knight we see during the events of Dagan Gera’s quest to reach Tanallor.
In this video I will be detailing Cal’s strength, speed, skill and all of his incredible abilities given to him by the force to determine just how powerful The Jedi Survivor is.

I think Cal is on the same trajectory as Obi-Wan.
In both canon and legends. Obi-Wan struggled with his Jedi stuff, barely passing the trials to become a Padawan, and had to work his ass off to get to where he was by Phantom Menace. He became such a powerful jedi from honing his skill and experience, so much so he was the first person in centuries to take on a sith and win, before even being a jedi knight.
I think Cal is similar, he had to work hard just to bring himself to where he was before the purge, then build it up through experience, to the point where he's one of the few who can take on purge troopers like they're idiot separatist droids, and make a hell of challenge for even the best inquisitors.
That's what I like about Cal, as well as Kenobi. They aren't freight-trains in the force but worked to be powerful.

if we compare obi and cal at the same age... in terms of feats cal is stronger. as for him reaching obi's lvl... I don't think he'll reach obi's power traditional way. I think we can all agree Anakin is stronger than any jedi or sith ever lived and may be bested in honest duel only by his own son. Maybe. If Luke really meant it. Maul was beaten by several people, including Asoka and certain band of pirates without any force powers, so he may be really challenging boss, but not exactly unbeatable. Not to mention Cal have a lot of practice killing zabrax on Dathomir. As for the Grievous, I think he is comparable to Ravis. It's worth noting Dagan is actually a Jedi Master, or at least was by the time the Nihil invaded Tanalorr. Yes, Santari Khri does call him "renowned Jedi Knight Dagan Gera," but a force echo on Tanalorr set during the Nihil invasion has Oppo Rancisis call him "Master Gera."
Now, while Anakin was never made a Master but was called a Master by Sors Bandeam (the youngling) in ROTS, it's worth noting he was both on the Council and the person in question was a youngling.
Oppo Rancisis by comparison is himself a member of the Jedi Council, and I *highly* doubt he would call Dagan "Master Gera" unless he was actually a Master.
This just serves to make Cal more impressive, though. Even if he did need Bode's help to put Dagan down near the end, he was able to best a High Republic Dark Jedi Master who was at his full power.

Also, grammatically, "Master" is a form of address. It's possible that he's just being called it in the same way you would call him "Mister Gera". I don't know his exact age, but he was clearly under 30, which is when you would refer to someone as "Master" instead of "Mister".

    • @1KQ_

@@1KQ_ The problem is that Oppo Rancisis is both a Master and a Council member. Dagan isn't above him in any way, so it wouldn't really make sense for Oppo to call him a Master if he isn't actually holding the rank of Jedi Master.
Anakin got called Master a few times, but that was mainly by Ahsoka (his Padawan) and by Sors Bandeam (a youngling), so I don't think that's quite comparable to a Council member calling Dagan a Master.

    • @calamitousenigma9052
      @calamitousenigma9052 Рік тому +25

@@realmileshall Well, Master is also a rank in the Jedi Order. Typically you only call a Jedi "Master" under three conditions:
      1) You're their Padawan (see: Ahsoka, Anakin was her master and she therefore called him Master, but Anakin didn't hold the rank of Master)
      2) They hold the rank of Master (see: someone saying "Master Yoda" or "Master Windu," etc)
      3) You're a youngling (see: Sors Bandeam was a youngling and called Anakin "Master Skywalker," albeit Anakin was also a Council member at the time)
Point being, Oppo Rancisis, being a Jedi Council member, has no real reason to call Dagan "Master Gera" unless he actually holds the rank of Master.

All Jedi are trained and dual combat, single Saber combat and even double saber combat, but the fact that he's so easily able to master each one and use them proficiently and as his main style, is absolutely astounding. Obviously he's probably not the best at each of the styles that he's acquired, but balanced wise, he probably has the most versatility out of any Jedi ever, and that may be a stretch, but I genuinely believe it. I guess this is mostly due in part to the fact that his lightsaber so easily malleable and he's able to switch Styles mid combat whenever he pleases, rather than going into combat with only one style in mind. Most Jedi would have to choose what sort of saber they going to use going in, while cow can decide mid-fight if he'd rather use to sabres, a single, a cross blade, or a double side. Very dangerous

Cal probably hasn't just mastered the 6th form with all the feats he was doing in single blade and double blade he has probably mastered attaru too with high degree of accomplishment in soresu. as for fifth form I don't know he has some good heavy blows and so on... just not that sure... but probably the crossguard, but he was doing some sort of makashi in blasterstance but looked clumsy. so he is probably one of the most talented in the lightsaber of his generation which makes sense cuz he wins and keeps up most of his fights just because of his lightsaber combat ability. all in all he knows form 1 - 6. he might go master all 6. if he lives long enough. I'd say in the next game he might master one more. probably soresu or 5th form. then heighten his mastery of 6th form and fourth form. aside from that he might be able to stack force on himself to make himself stronger... cal adapts whatever he sees into himself.

Regarding his stances I think it would be nice to know if he actually has to modify his lightsaber every so often or if he has all 5 built in at the same time. Because if all are in there and completly fine he probably is one of the most confusing lightsaber combatant for anyone trained to fight jedis.
Just imagine pulling up to a jedi in "hiding", you look him up and he carries a blaster probably to look more authentic as a non jedi and a lightsaber with a really long hilt. When you attack he uses a single blade lightsaber, but mid fight he turns on the otherside. No worries you think just a change in slight tactics but shortly after he just splits the lightsaber in two and attacks with them. He now rotates between these three forms until when he is in single blade mode he grabs his waist and shoots your abdomen. Now really strugling you go for a last swing with your own saber but they clash. Desperately you think why dont I just slide down and cut his hand off. But before being able to do that a crossguards block even that attack to which this jedi reacts and decapitates you.
As skilled as the person fighting Cal is he will probably always get atleast one hit in.

Cal's final fight with Dagan is kind of reflects his fight with Malicos. Sure, in both instances he had help, but Cal was doing all the heavy lifting in each fight. (Hell, I completely forgot Bode was there until the cutscenes.)
What matters is that both Malicos and Dagan were more or less masters and were likely already damn strong BEFORE they turned to the Dark Side. As stated in game and in this video, Dagan was one of the Order's more elite Knights during the High Republic era where the Jedi were considered to be at at their strongest. And Cal was not only keeping up with him, but even managed to pull an uno reverse card on Dagan's trump card AFTER Dagan's turn to the Dark Side with its power boost.
To me, that speaks volumes about what kind of Jedi Cal really is because that's before even Cal himself starts tapping into the Dark Side. The man's a beast and if his rate of growth is anything to go by, he's going to become absolute nightmare fuel for just about anyone who isn't Vader.
So when my Dad (we are both big into Star Wars but he's a little behind me on anything outside of the movies and shows) asked me who was Cal Kestis while we were watching Ahsoka together I said he was basically the Jedi equivalent to John Wick.

Also let’s not forget Cere was able to go toe to toe with Vader and not only injured him but was very close, inches from inflicting a potentially fatal blow. Sure it is clear in game Cere is a a bit more powerful that Cal but he did train under her and is years younger. Now that he is at Tanalorr, a place very strong in both the light and the dark side. He probably not only will be able to dómine with Cere but train with a very powerful Nightsister. I’d say he is on track to be one of the most powerful Jedi ever, but to be fair, it’d be in large part his tapping into the dark side and other “forbidden/looked down upon” styles such as using Magicks and a blaster. Maybe they could write his story to go post episode 9 as Tanalorr being within a Nebula/anomaly, time could be slowed or the powerful force presence could slow aging. How cool would it be if somehow the compasses were lost again leaving Tanalorr isolated with its residents and when Cal finally returns its when Rey is rebuilding the Order and Cal would be like a Yoda but with ancient knowledges of ancient force techniques of Dathomir and Zeffo (if he returns to that journey). He would be kind of like the Armourer of the Mandalorians in his leadership, being more mystical and priestly authority and not the leader per se. Great video! I will say, after completing the game, I’m not 100% sure that Cal and Dagan were equals by the time they fought. After all, Cal required assistance from Bode and BD-1 to be able to defeat him. Dagan still nearly able to win after being stabbed and lifting Bode and Cal up with the force, with Bode having to shoot his back before Cal landed the finishing blow.
They’re still obviously on comparable levels though at the very least given Rayvis’ comments and Cal still being able to fight against him at all, but it’s worth noting imo.
This is also before Cal’s Dark Side Boost (which notably is the same moveset as Cere’s, making me feel the two are comparable) however, so I’d say by the end of the game they’re at the very least equals.

I would love to talk about Cal's future! He basically denounces the Jedi Order and its teachings by letting himself be with Merrin. He can tap into the darkside to gain strength and let his anger fuel him temporarily. I would love it so much if Cal became a Grey Jedi. I want him to obtain an understanding that while the darkside can corrupt and whither you, so can the light side! The Jedi of The High Republic became passive, philosophical, and grand standing in my opinion, making their self perceived greater power moot. They aren't as obviously evil/bad or corrupted as someone like palpatine, but I believe depending solely on one side of the force is foolish. To be one with, and at balance with the force, you need to use both sides. It's like if you were passing through a massive ocean, and simply because one half was very stormy and full of sharks, you call it evil! When really it is all one ocean. To use the Darkside, in moderation, along with the lightside is true balance. This is what I hope Cal thinks about and understands in the next game. Would love your thoughts, love the video!
