    I think that because of the big map and changes to naval mechanics the naval warfare in this iteration is looking quite interesting. You really do need to build up those island naval bases or launching major operations far from home ports is very very difficult.

    • @thehistoricalgamer
      @thehistoricalgamer  Місяць тому +6

      That should be interesting ... I'll be honest early I don't really even notice changes to naval, but if that's because its on the logistical side that would be a welcome improvement/enhancement.

      @thehistoricalgamer There's changes with the non-grand campaign scenarios. Ships have different ranged fire for example depending on ship type.
      In the Day of Infamy grand campaign, there are no AVLs, just AVs..so amphib operations got to be well planned. No more slinging long range AVLs on naval cruise across the ocean to see what sticks haha

    I was on the Beta doing Multiplayer tests with a bunch of the scenarios. It could be brutal and quite fun. 🔥

    I like some aspects of the Strategic Command WWII games, but I've never loved how it depicts naval warfare. The maps are also dodgy. But I do enjoy watching these "Let's Play" videos.

      For a game like this I actually think the way they handle blockade/convoying via a box or spot on the map is well done, I also like the simplified yet effective way R&D tradeoffs are also handled, even land combat is ok, because its very attritional in the way that most land combat was, and while it doesn't handle breakouts perfectly, for this theater that doesn't matter much. I agree entirely though that the naval combat does not at all feel like naval combat. While wearing down a division over 10-20 days of continuous attacks makes total sense, wearing down a ship over 10-20 days is simply not how naval or air combat worked either in the Pacific or the Atlantic.

      @thehistoricalgamer Hmmm...actually those ship counters represent multiple vessels. For Heavy Cruisers it's like 4 or more actual ships. CV counters equal 2 vessels.
      So your wrong assuming they are getting, 'worn down'. Ships are getting sunk, but the count is going down from 10 to 0 as a factor or percentage of what's left in that unit counter.

    I know that the game's devs know their audience, but the fact that the game doesn't let you do anything but read until minute 10 is a bit too much in my book:)
    Though the level of detail is both impressive and daunting.

    So. Moral of the story. Don't pull the US garrison out of Corregidor. Defend Manila. Good to know.

    For casual gaming this seems nice, but no wargame will ever touch WITPAE.

    I would love for you to make a Historical video on Mount and Blade 2. I know it is not historical but it has a lot of historical elements and I would love to hear your commentary on it.

    I'm playing Europe after the World at War version. I can't stand Europe. As an Allied player, I find it ridiculously difficult. Perhaps, I'm approching it the wrong way. I have been waiting for a PACIFIC game from these guys.
    Didn't even know, this was coming!

    You need to put the Nepal garrison back. It's not a large force at all. But you get Ghurkas from Nepal. You really shouldn't mess with that garrison.

  • @boraeananaren

    The naval side still looks weak. Unsuited to a you go we go system. Still no replacement to Grigsby's WitP.

    • @thehistoricalgamer
      @thehistoricalgamer  Місяць тому +1

      I haven't seen anything particularly new in the naval side which is a bit disappointing, but I wouldn't compare it to WITP because its not trying to replace WITP.

    • @thehistoricalgamer
      @thehistoricalgamer  Місяць тому

      I have played PTO2, a ton, on the PC though not the Saturn. When SNES Drunk did his PTO video a few weeks back I was debating buying an SNES copy of PTO2 on eBay and making a series of it. I have an old SNES and a capture card I can hook up to it. Seems easier than trying to fiddle with doxbox on a copy I haven't been able to get to work (lately)
      frankly.

    • @thehistoricalgamer
      @thehistoricalgamer  Місяць тому +3

      PTO2 btw is the only game I've ever seen try to (and mostly succeed) get the conflict between the Army and Navy over resources and priorities right. The games cabinet meetings were the best imho.

      I haven’t played much warplan, I honestly don’t recall world at war well because it’s been so long. I need a bit more time before I haven a definitive point of view.

      @@panagiotisalexandrosriniot3368 The campaign game is not at all like SC-World at War, and there are many other scenarios at a different scale that are operational level. I've played all the different SC games and spent about 10 hours on this one today. Definitely different in many regards.
