Thank you for a great video. The debate of Sierra vs Yamaha has been going on for years. Even though your test wasn't very scientific, it showed a measurable difference between the 2 kits. Saving $60 on a kit isn't worth having to spend $20k on a new motor.
Thank you Jack. I was really scared when the Sierra impeller just dropped down the shaft so loosely. There was no way that was staying in the lower end.
Great video. Thanks the the time you took to make a very clear video. Just wondering, did you perform the time required to fill the 3 quart container after you replaced the Sierra kit with the Yamaha kit?
Smart move on swapping the pump back out. I agree I didn't like the looseness of the Sierra but also how the shore hardness was different. I think those two things were the main reason the Yamaha pumped so much better. It's these things that keep our motors running better and longer. Just not worth it to save few dollars in my opinion. Appreciate the videos!
Great video as are all of your other videos. After watching this "water pump comparison - OEM vs Sierra" and the two videos on “How to build a remote engine flush” and “Yamaha remote engine flush install” I have a couple questions. I have ordered a Cobia 240cc with a Single Yamaha F300NSB2 4.2l and plan to set up remote engine flush system. I have seen it on a Grady-White Fisherman 236 and they only have the hose bib connection on board. I did not see a shut off valve anywhere. So: 1) Do I need to have a shut off value or backflow device between the Factory Stock Flush Line hose on the motor where I splice the Tee and the water hose connection I install on board. 2) When you flush the motor with the with the Flush Hose (motor not running) does that flush out the water pump system in the lower unit. 3) Also in your “How to replace anodes on the 4.2l Yamaha” your Anodes looked pretty clean. Do you flush your motor just with water or do you use a product like Salt-Away or comparable. Thanks again for the helpful videos.. Fred in Florida
Thank you for the kind words Fred. You need to be able to ‘cap off’ any flush line extension you add to the system. I used a valve, but it also controls which engine is flushed. Regulators just use the cap that comes with the hose fitting. You will get water going down to the pump when flushing. I use salt away occasionally, but it’s mostly just fresh water flushes.
This cost me $375.00 . Sierra will NOT work on a SHO Vmax 250 . Mechanic put the wrong one in . Diffidently makes a difference! Always use OEM . Great video s.
yes of course - all tests were done at idle 600rpms. While my test could have been conducted more scientifically, there is clearly a difference between the two pumps.

Thank you. No, that would have been smart though. I saw the stream was stronger than before and went straight to the boat ramp.

@@4RibsFishing Thanks for the fast response. I think I will build one like yours and just put in an on & off valve. I really appreciate help.... Fred

Thank you Duane!
Awesome video. Where did you get that shirt
Thank you! I sell the shirts on my Shopify site - 02ac87.myshopify.com
@@4RibsFishing thank you
Doesn't RPM factor in to water pressure? What's the port vs. the star engine RPM?

Merci beaucoup ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Where did you get the tub to submerge the drive?
Tractor Supply. They had a bunch of different sizes.
which one did you settle on? Looks like the perfect height. Thanks in advance
I was told Sierra makes yamaha parts by one of the parts places
I heard that too, but once I looked at them side by side it was clear they were not made in the same molds/dies.
