I’ve been suffering from constipation since I was a teenager. I’m in my 40s now. I was told I have IBS. I’ve tried everything- FODMAP diet, a lot of fibre, water, probiotics. I do exercise, I don’t eat any processed food. I’m on herbal laxatives for years now. Don’t know what to do and what else to try. 😢
Have you tried extended fasting? It's been used for thousands of years to treat all sorts of ailments. I believe this is what helped heal me of my constipation, I managed 6 days. 6-7+ days is where you get in to the deeper healing.
For some people bowel rest can help, but for others it can slow down bowels and metabolism and old poop kinda gets stuck there. It's all about listening to the body I suppose..
Tyfs dr Ruscio, the first time I went for a routine colonoscopy at age 50 the GI couldn’t get the smallest kid’s size scope in. No wonder my constipation was so bad. I was sent for CT-colonography immediately while still half sedated. They found out my colon was tortuous and twisted with scars of former adhesion. With kidney stones and stage 1 calcium plaques in abdominal aorta as bonuses. Since then I’ve always been mindful of my high fiber diets/water and opted for CT-colonography every time. For me the extra fibers have not been working because of the tendency to get stuck. Now at 63, I have gone without fiber trial for about 12 months eating only fatty meat and eggs. Surprisingly, my bowl movements have greatly improved. No more bloated or constipated. Really strange. Also started doing strength training and dead hanging to help keeping regular. So far so good. I’m not taking any meds. Just electrolytes and plenty of water or bone broth.
I think you’ll find it’s modified pectin. Video time prob doesn’t always allow for detailed explanation of everything. Sometimes we have to fill in the gaps. Search google. Lots of info.

I’ve tried everything under the sun and not found the long-term solution. I eat gluten-free and not very much actually. I can’t seem to get to the point where I have normal daily BM’s. I should also say that I’ve had several abdominal surgery several back surgeries a sigmoid colon removal, no gall bladder, 3 c-sections, bilateral Inguinal hernia and pelvic floor disfunction. My fecal incontinence largely occurs right after my morning meal and not so much after dinner. I also related to the early childhood trauma. My question is this, with an elimination diet for a couple of weeks really do a long-term reset for me? Or even short term that I could do once every couple months?
Thankyou so much for the best talk, causes of , different symptoms and some treatments for constipation which I have ever had. Constipated since childhood, I am now 69, it has always been considered as a standing joke when I go for help and told to eat more fibre which is ther last thing I needed. Then it has been complicated by pelvic/abdo surgeries, the chronic pain resulting in powerful analagsia for many years. The worst has been when I fell out of bed resulting in an incisional hernia I think just small bowel, then repair. The bowels have gone crazy, I was left with a tennis ball lump after 4 days which was diagnosed as I think a haemolyzing haematoma which I still have almost 2 years later, painful, and terrible abdo distension right up to the stomach (just under the ribs) for several days (often over a week) I can be so constipated then out of the blue diarrhoea so awful I have been incontinent of faeces several times. Yet I sit and suffer the embarrassment. I am English born coming to NZ in 1987
Unfortunately, it appears that a major section of the junior doctors are working under the CPM leadership rather than as a nonpolitical movement. CM has expectedly totally fooled them. Advice from a past RG Kar Medical College MD: Either make the movement totally independent or include all who will genuinely support their cause, not forgetting that it is the future of the healthcare system to serve the general public. At the same time, don't forget the parents of the physician victim who singularly protested against the rotten criminal system with her life.
PSA - Watch out for magnesium. It lowers your blood pressure. I almost fell down the stairs the morning after I took it. I didn't even know what hit me.
I’m so sorry that happened to you! Many people are deficient in magnesium, but not everyone will have the same reaction - you’re absolutely right that everyone should be careful with what they add to their routine.
A friend told me about the health benefits of Moringa powder. I discovered, however, after putting moringa powder in my protein smoothies, that it would give me easy to pass bowel movements after one or two hours. Then I just started mixing moringa powder with apple juice and drinking it and it acted as a laxative as well. Moringa actually triggers the need to poop. Not sure why, but it does.
What about mold toxicity or heavy metals? They can also cause constipation. My daughter became constipated after she was exposed to mold. My son started having IBS after the mold exposure.
@DrRuscioDC thank you so much. Yes, lots of other issues because of the mold. Eczema, allergy, food intolerances, weight gain, hormonal issues. They didn't have anything before we moved to a moldy house.
My understanding of the microbiome, you have prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics. Fiber is the prebiotics, hopefully you have or supplement probiotics, the good bugs to digest the fiber to make postbiotics. One if not the main component of postbiotics is the making of the short chain fatty acid butyrate. You can supplement this end product butyrate. I would recommend a time released product so as not to overwhelm say just the small intestine area and not reaching the large colon. I have been Keto to Carnivore since 2017. I'm sure i have been in ketosis for most of that time generating butyrate. I supplemented sodium butyrate timed release cap, a half dose to start and had the most complete BM i have ever had. It has been the same everyday since. Highly recommend it. As Dr Gundry has said, you can't get to much butyrate.
It is said butyrate is made when you are in ketosis, fasting, or exercise. Butyrate is also made by the bacteria feeding on mostly soluble fiber. I have done all of these things but supplementing butyrate has been even more effective and easier.
I kept using Mg citrate for soooo long and it just accumulated and in my colon/ kidney areas without help. Finally, I started taking potassium citrate and I now have functioning bowels. I don't understand why everyone goes to Mg or laxative when many may lack potassium instead.

I struggle with emptying my bowels and I have been trying all types of laxatives, fibre, 2-3L of water per day, and massage. This situation developed after I suffered Cauda Equina syndrome during the Covid lockdown and was kept waiting for 8 days on the ward as many of the operating theatres were used as intensive care units for Covid patients. Since then (with severe compression of L3/L4 nerves) my bladder and bowel are dysfunctional. I need to self-catheterise a couple of times per day and I suffer from severe bowel immotility. My colonoscopy showed a torturous long sigmoid loop which appears to store stools and result in severe lower abdominal pain. I end up vomiting and spending hours on the toilet. My spinal neurologist has not been helpful at all and only offers me anaesthetic and steroid injections to the nerve root.
Thank you doctor for explaining these health issues slowly and efficiently! The information has helped me to fill in some missing questions. I feel I’m one step closer to 🙏🏻 staying regular! 👏🏻
My well-informed doctor told me that Senna relaxes the muscles in the intestines damaging the bowel movement by all of a sudden compacting the stool causing bowel obstruction. That was the cause of my aunt’s death and my cousin’s rush to the emergency room with bowel obstruction. Both were “hooked” on using Senna as laxative.
Drinking more water seems to help now that I drink 10 to 12 glasses a day constipation is much less of an issue. The other thing you ever discussed was having 6 to 10 prunes a day that really seems to help me.

Triphala works wonders for me. It can also be used long term. Start low...1/2tsp and work us to 1tsp per day. I now take 1/4 every night...and i'll do that long term. It has so many other benefits also.

I am older and I know it is of utmost importance when using these things.
Senna is not good for everybody. It makes me sick if I take it. Also I noticed I became constipated if I eat some food that contain artificial colors, preservatives and so on.

What about a male inguinal hernia causing it, rather than the constipation causing the hernia?
Thank you very much for this great teaching. The public needs this information. keep up the good work.
Just 1 tsp of MCT oil works for me every time.
Glycerin suppositories work a treat and very quickly, within a few minutes 😃
Will Glycerin help me go toilet please reply 😢
Magnesium does absolutely nothing for me. I think I’ve tried every over the counter medicine.
Hands-down the best that I have found to relieve constipation are water enemas they work every time
What about- Lazy bowel syndrome.
Nothing helps ⚠️
Are the meds given for opioid constipation, safe? Would something more natural work better.
Fommap is hard. So many healthy items I won’t give up.
Remember, it's temporarily giving up foods to see if there's improvement in constipation symptoms.
Which healthy items would you miss on a FODMAP style of eating…? 🤔

Best, Comprehensive. It's a lot. Saving this video for reference, thanks!
What about mold toxicity or heavy metals? They can also cause constipation. My daughter became constipated after she was exposed to mold. My son started having IBS after the mold exposure.
I’m so sorry to hear that. It’s definitely a possible cause or contributing factor. Did they have other symptoms?
If you are keto/Carnivore, why do you believe that consuming more fiber is a good deal…? 🤔
Sorry, I meant ‘idea’. 😢
Because, in general, there are many more people who are magnesium deficient than potassium deficient.
Magnesium. Has. Helped. Me

Thank you very much, pls what green stool
When you talk about bacterial overgrow in this video, do you mean SIBO or dysbiosis in the large intestine?
Either one could be at play, though not all dysbiosis is necessarily SIBO.
Thank you! I really needed to hear this
Thank you for your science based information and not product hype. I just received your whey free elemental diet today and look forward to adding it to my SIBO arsenal along with these other strategies you showed in your UA-cam presentation. So many new options and a lot more hope that I can get some relief and healing. Thank you again.
Great Information. TY 🥰
Next birthday I will be 90! Since my wife died in 2005 I have lived on Bananas, Oranges , Aples, Tomatos, Milk, and drink a couple of cups of tea daily, Now I have a runy Guts ! How do Istop this? I eat a slice or two of bead and butter !
On UA-cam there are recipes with these exact ingredients plus oatmeal. I think the little bit of oatmeal, does the trick.
What about triphala?
Is good. He’s avoided a few good products. Pro-digest blend has great reviews for motility.
Definitely a good option for some - I cover it and more here: drruscio.com/natural-laxatives/
Mmmmm..
I wonder why he does not mention cascara sagrada.
I have suffered from constipation since I was a child. But I have been trying to cope with it. Which hasn't been easy.
It is not easy…!
I hear you. I started taking some Japanese enzymes in the form of a powder that have been an absolute game changer. I’ve tried everything for years and years
Same here , issue since long time but not found solution

Look at carnivore diet
Thank you doctor for explaining these health issues slowly and efficiently! The information has helped me to fill in some missing questions. I feel I’m one step closer to 🙏🏻 staying regular! 👏🏻
Drinking kefir each day has worked wonders for me.
I also add a splash of pure tart cherry juice and liquid allulose to kefir. After years and years of fighting constipation - no more!!
What is Kefer is it a supplement? Please reply thank you
@@Mary-gn6fkgod bless you it works please tell me where I can get Kefer
@@reshmamohammed4525 Kefir is fermented milk. Dr. Bikman has a great utube video explaining its benefits. It is a superfood.
Most grocery stores have kefir in the yogurt section.
Senna makes me sick ,having cramps.
Comprehensive - thanks so much!
I had 2 month of constipation and now I am ok but found I lost 6 pounds. What could be wrong?
Did you find out what the problem was/ is? Thx
Trauma and constipation doesn’t go with the saying scared the shit out of me
I think for some of us scarring the s..t out of us would be something we'd all go for. 😀 I'm not making fun of you, I know how difficult this all is.
What’s mineral water?
Drinking more water seems to help now that I drink 10 to 12 glasses a day constipation is much less of an issue. The other thing you ever discussed was having 6 to 10 prunes a day that really seems to help me.
Some of us no matter what we take we are constipated I have it from I am going to school now I am in my70s and constipated every thing I take then I start to take dulcolax
The best is prune juice or prunes!

How likely is it that a severe hemorrhagic stroke can leave someone with chronic constipation? It's left side was very damaged leaving everything at first with no sensation of touch even although the person can now use left leg to walk, not well, but awkwardly using a hemi walker, but needing to use a power wheelchair. Left arm, hand nearly immobile. It's been 8 yrs since stroke. Still struggling to go even after trying different diets, lots of stimulants/ marketed products etc. Any hope?
Thank you for your information
Thanks for sharing, this is so awesome .
Great video thank you.😊
I learned so much from this talk, thank you. Giving a new treatment months to reveal efficacy is something I hadn’t considered.
Nice presentation. I am an 80-year old man with Parkinson’s . Are there any recommendations specific to constipation associated with PD?😅
Triphala works wonders for me. It can also be used long term.
Start low...1/2tsp and work us to 1tsp per day. I now take 1/4 every night...and i'll do that long term. It has so many other benefits also.
You are a godsend! I am getting ready to go see a Gastro Dr. for my constipation and to schedule a colonoscopy. I will make good notes w bulletpoints from your video and share with him my daily process as it refers to your information. I am hopeful that my partnership with him in my evaluation/diagnosis and plan going forward will be even more positive! Already making changes from your suggestions. Thank you!
I will say that I will have to research some of the otc products/supplements etc u outlined AND their effects on kidney health. I am older and I know it is of utmost importance when using these things.
