When my husband's dual hernia repair surgeon screwed up, and my husband's hernia popped out, he vomited feces. I rushed him to the hospital where they did emergency surgery. He could have died from the bowel bursting open, that is how distended he was. He appeared pregnant. That was scary!

This might help some of you like it has helped me.
    1. I eat 20% fruit, 25% raw vegetables, 35% cooked vegetables and no more than 4 ounces of meat daily.
    2. Eliminate white processed flour products and went whole grain (learned to bake my own bread, one loaf per week).
    3. No chips of any kind (popcorn once in a while).
    4. A glass of pop once per week (usually on Saturday snack night).
    5. 32 oz of water daily, 4 oz of prune juice daily
    6. Exercise 15 min per day (walking, swimming, gardening etc.)
The above has helped me as I now go every day and am losing 1 to 2 pounds a week of excess weight!!!

@@linnellbrooks5711 Someone else in the comments recommended getting a high colonic. He said he gets one every couple of years or so and it cleans you out completely. You might want to get one right away! 🙏
I have had chronic constipation my whole life, which had gotten worse with other health issues over the last year. The following is the regimen that I have developed with God's help:
      1. Upon awakening, I take 2 Metamucil capsules, 2 magnesium citrate capsules, and one ox bile capsule with a glass of very warm water. Most mornings this will cause a gentle, quick bowel movement within the next 15-30 minutes with no straining.
      2. After getting dressed, I go into the kitchen and eat six prunes with a glass of very warm water, and some lightly salted nuts. This will usually cause me to have a second bowel movement either right away or after breakfast, with no straining.
      3. I then have oatmeal for breakfast with peanut butter, diced apple, and blueberries. This will many times cause another bowel movement.
      4. I used to strain, which makes things much worse and can cause other problems. Don't strain. If you only have a partial bowel movement, don't worry about it. Just follow the steps and you will complete it later.
      4. I drink six glasses of water and two glasses of soy milk daily. Try to get eight glasses of fluid per day. It will really help with constipation.
      5. Elevate your feet with a step stool when you go, or elevate your knees higher than your hips by going up on your tip toes. Keep your back straight, and relax. Do some deep breathing. Think about things that make you laugh, or things that you are looking forward to and excite you. Laughter and excitement stimulate your vagus nerve, which helps with peristalsis.
      6. Get your veggies too. Also a good quality cold pressed oil like olive oil is helpful. Beans are really good too. They have a lot of soluble fiber. I make a bean and brown rice wrap for lunch that tastes great and helps keep me regular.
      7. Stay active and enjoy your life! God loves you and wants you to be happy and healthy! God bless you! ❤

Warm prune juice is the answer. When I was backed up in Germany once I couldn't find prune juice in the supermarkets. But in the UK it is widely available. Pour a glass of prune juice and put it in the microwave for 20 seconds. Test the temperature with your finger. If necessary, put the glass back in for 10 seconds. Note that the juice should not be hot, and just lukewarm won't work either. Once you think you've hit the right temperature, drink it down in one go. This has an absolutely disgusting taste, but about an hour later you will start to feel like you're ready for the toilet. The effect of just one glass of prune juice can last for several hours, so be prepared to visit the toilet more than once. Especially useful to remember if you decide to go shopping.

I remember writing a paper for college. Once I finished writing the paper (not typing it as in the old days you had to do but finishing with the creative part), I would need to run to the bathroom. @@traceykoontz2868 Please, anyone you know who has to get a caretaker...BE very careful.. Do check often, if someone is hired that you don't know. This monster was recommended by a worker at a nursing home. This monster had a very kind, and fake baby talk like line of crap. She alienated my friend's neighbors, and took over. My friend had just lost the last two family members, her grandson, and second daughter. When my friend entered the hospital for a few weeks, the nurse told her POA that the monster came in at nine p.m., to relieve the day care lady. The Monster stayed about one half hour, left, and put her hours in as all night. The nurse said that this happens often, and if the POA, who was an in-law, chose, they would support him in filing charges. I was ready to help witness, but the in- law, was involved with an out of town girlfriend, and didn't want to peruse it, so, I was ON guard . Eventually, the monster told me that my friend didn't want me there. She knew I had her number. It was weeks before I got a call from my friend's late daughter's friend. The daughter, was my best friend for many years. The woman told me that she had spoken to my friend, as the monster allowed her to take calls. She said, "Hurry, and call her, And, she wants to hear from you." I called immediately, and my friend was So glad to hear from me. I asked her if I had done anything to upset her because the monster told me to stay away. My friend said, "Those were not my words." And she elaborated by telling me that she was in a bad spot. I promised her, that if she was afraid, I would talk to her POA, and we could get her into the nursing home, where she would be safe. The neighbor arrived a few days later to see my friend before she left for the nursing home, but monster wouldn't let him say goodbye. This monster was alienating her from everyone, and, instead of using an ambulance to take her to the nursing home, the monster's husband or boyfriend, came over, and he lifted my friend, putting his arms under her armpits, from behind, and lowering her down the three wobbly back steps, and into the car, in the garage. I never figured out why. My friend had a bad shoulder injury, and that had to hurt. I was LIVID, but my friend only told me that AFTER we got her into the nursing home physically. For weeks, I went every day to make sure monster didn't show up, because my friend so was SO afraid! Eventually, we got her calm enough to be reassured monster was not coming back POA called her to relieve har of her duties. There was much more, but getting sore fingers. My friend died at just before her 100th birthday. She slipped in the bathroom, and broke a hip. I was at the hospital for threevdays, when they kept puttingbsurgery off due to irregular heart activity. She died an the third day Due tempos, being out of town, I had to pick output funeral clothes, etc. I FOUND a beautiful black shift with a silky blouse top. It was a gorgeous red rose with green leaves, and specks of gold here and that. The funeral home did a great job on her hair, which I asked the nursing home staff to reverse condition her hair, as It was so dry and frizzy. POA ordered a blanket of deep red carnations for the casket, and my friend looked BEAUTIFUL. I thought, wait until Ralph sees her! He was a wonderful husband and father, and I was sure that he wasn't watching over her, or I wouldn't have been able to get her away. When you have to deal with someone evil, you have to worry about them harming someone as revenge. I talked to a doctor about this, and he said, it is a shame, and it happens more and more, because there are so many elderly, and not as many caregivers. I am keeping strong, lifting weights, and eating healthy, just in case!

There are health practitioners that do a procedure called high colonic. It is an effective enema, cleaning out the entire colon. It is done with tubing and tanks so that there is no odor, and they cover you for privacy. A gentle abdominal massage is done , which helps move things along. I get one done every few years, and feel really great afterwards. I always wondered why they didn’t do them in hospitals when patients have constipation post surgery.

I've also used salt as a laxative. You have to eat a LOT, like a couple of teaspoons at once dissolved in plenty of water. And then wait like 30 minutes or so. It basically gives you diarrhea which moistens/lubricates the stuck poop. Use at your own risk if you have high blood pressure or other conditions that would make it dangerous to eat so much salt. I have the opposite problem (my blood sodium tends to run too low, and my body gets rid of sodium MUCH too fast), so I have to eat a lot of salt to avoid cramps, which is how I inadvertently discovered this trick. Might be a lifesaver since pretty much everyone has salt at home but you might not have another type of laxative on hand, or you might have already run through the ones you do have.

My Mom had a 100% cure for constipation she got from her Mom who got it from her Mom. Every year during plum season she would buy a large amount of purple plums, just the regular kind you get everywhere, wash thoroughly, remove the pit and fill a large pot to about 3/4 full. Add water to cover the plums plus a bit. Then she let it simmer for a few hours until it became thick like a paste. Never let it boil, just simmer. Then it went into jars and when cool into the fridge. This would last us until the next year for a family of five. At the first sign of constipation, we were given 1 spoonful and within an hour, we were going, without cramps or pain.

I went to er and had an X-ray about a year ago and the doc said there was “a very large amount of stool” told me to try otc laxatives. (🙄) I said I’ve tried every otc laxative available with minimal relief. I have also tried colonoscopy preps like sutab and it helped a bit but not much more than Miralax did. They didn’t offer any other options. Just discharged me. 😡 after that I decided to go another route and try a colonic. I started getting colonics about 2 months ago. Typically I go for a colonic weekly and I lose anywhere between 5-15 lbs per time. I still have a protrusion but it’s definitely getting better. I always feel so much better after each colonic. Back in the 1980’s several people in my church tried what might be called “the orange flush”. Might be another name for it. What it was is that you bought a lot of the best oranges you can find, and on a day you are staying home you eat one orange after another until you have an eventful bowel movement. One older gentleman in church who had a large belly tried it and lost over 20 pounds. I’m a slender man. I was the last person in my family to try it and yes sitting on the toilet I reached a point of very strong abdominal pain then it all passed, and made enough noise that everyone in the house could hear it. The odd thing is that just before it all passed it felt inside me in my left lower abdomen that something was peeling off that had been there a long time and it had been very well attached to my large intestine. I’m 57 now and I’ve stayed basically slender most of my life besides a spare tire years ago.

I had worsening constipation over a period of a year. The blockage was high up. My stool was hard rocks. I used enemas which worked to empty me out but the motility didnt improve. I was abale to link my constipation to poor mood and fatigue. Eventually I was prescribed cosmocol /movicol which got me into a proper bowel routine. It took a few months. Initially it was mushy stool but eventually became textbook. I have and already had a great diet.

No idea why that happened, I normally eat a diet quite rich in vegetables & fruit & drink two litres of water each day, more in hot weather. Sounds very similar to what I go through. Had back up for 10 + years now since I broke my back, the medical term is Neurogenetic Bowel Disfunction. Have been through all the enema's, the fibre, all the over the counters, suppositories. Nothing worked. I had to wai until it came out on its own, because of the break I had no sensation to have a bowel movement, It would be so bad that nothing moved in my colon and it would cause intense pain and ER visit, I have had sepsis a few times and spent a week in hospital 8 times since this accident happened. I had to lay in the floor just to get my back to relax but this did not help every time. I bought puppy pads and would lay in the floor in intense pain sometimes all night. If I sat on the towlet I would pass out from the pain.
I have been to every sort of doctor including my Neurologist who is the one that Dx'd me last year... about 4 months ago I sent my grandson to the store to get some milk duds, he came back with whoppers. I ate about 3/4 of a 5 oz. boox within 2 hours I was sitting on the pot going it lasted all night as I had not had bowel movement for 4 months, I was severely bloated, nauseated, passing gas but let me tell you the Whoopers worked, I was amazed no one was using them as an aid. I did some research on whoopers and found that they contain "barley malt" . I have continued to use the whoopers every month and here today I am sharing this with you because you can use the whoppers or can get some Barley Malt and take 15 m/l and it will move you... Int the past this is what people used to cure their constipation. With NO SIDE Effects. I am having 2 bowel movements a week and am eating whoopers every day, soon to purchase Barley Malt in bulk.. Hoping other will try this as IT DOES WORK, you will feel greatly revived after doing this. There is also no pain with these bowel movements. May every day be as good as today... Blessings.

I have IBS, but am extremely health conscious, I drink plenty of water, exercise, and eat nutritiously. Still, I developed a severe fecal impaction, it made me very sick- fever, nausea, horribly distended belly( like a 6 month pregnancy!) and triggered a UTI because of the pressure on my bladder. In the ER, even after an enema and suppository, there were no results- I was then given Lactolose and it caused horrible, foul, diarrhea! I am glad that this doctor is so straightforward and explains things clearly... Friends and family who have never experienced this joke about it and don't understand... Yes, this condition is embarrassing - but it is serious and one must educate themselves. I have heard about the finger dislodging method, and it makes sense, but I just can't being myself to do it! I am on day 5 of this entire episode and still feel miserable, and my primary care doctor isn't responding - I may have to go back to the ER. Also, there is a thing called paradoxical diarrhea - one can be severly constipated, with an impaction, but watery diarrhea leaks passed the blockage.

Oh my goodness! You just described exactly what is happening to me. Spent Sunday night at the ER. A CT Scan and bloodwork showed no blockage, was given a disposable enema and a dose of Lactolose. After about 2 hours, the Lactolose gave me watery diarrhea all night long. I couldn’t sleep, couldn’t pooped, felt nauseous and irritated. I’m on my 4th dosage of Lactolose, and still unable to go. I have tried Miralax, Dulcolax, Keep it Moving, Constipend, Pineapple Tea (tea used to work wonderfully), Fleet Disposable enemas, Milk of Magnesia, Magnesium, Lactolose and nothing has worked! At this point I’m desperate! I’m sorry that you are going through this, I 100% understand your concerns and frustration.

If you're from SE Asia like me with some lactose intolerance then cold milk works. Anal douche is very effective for me but I've only needed to use it several times. You can buy an attachment to screw onto the shower hose, be careful not to turn on the water too strongly and test the temperature first. Do not let too much water in each time and it works after a few seconds. Have a bowl ready to avoid messing up the shower floor. As for medication lactulose works gently as stool softener. Some people with chronic constipation have lost the contractility of the bowel muscles so senna might not be so effective.😮

Things that work for me, although i don't take them for constipation , never the less they move the bowels, or help:
    a) 1.5 litres of water with lemon/lime and little salt(but enough) on empty stomach before exercise. Add some olive oil it ll act like lubricant.
If the electrolyte drink is Salty enough will prevent the fast absorption of the water and oil.
    b) Black - black coffee under similar conditions, 20-30 minutes before a morning walking or jogging.
    c) lots and lots of water ..6-7 litres a day. water is absorbed quickly, so you must be drinking water frequently through out the day to keep hydrating the food in your bowels.
    d) Eat a ketonic diet. Protein and fats will be absorbed near completely. So even if you are constipated, the volume of the food will be decreasing with time, until it reduced to near nothing, not stuck and getting drier and drier.

After my second experience with the dreaded 'stink finger' incident, I found a routine that's worked extremly well for me for 2 years now.
Having an 'elongated colon' @68 years of age, i was chronically constipated. After a colonoscopy, that doctor has had me on miralax every day; however, miralax alone did not seem to help much at all so I added my own secret to colon success, for me.
After eating my one meal a day, i also eat 3-4 cups of store-bought Bran Flakes, topped with sun-maid raisens and sometimes with frozen strawberries or blueberries and then wet it with homeade milk that i create using watered down Heavy Whipping Cream, sweetened with a little stevia - and I drink More Than Enough Water! I've done this for 2 years and as a result - i almost always have a productive '2-flusher' BM each and every day!
Even though those processed bran flakes are not ideal, it really does do the trick. This has worked out better while continuing with the miralax.

Unbeknownst to most people, Elvis Pressley had this issue requiring the finger technique. He had a section of his colon that simply did not contract at all since birth. His mother used her finger when he was a child and, I assume, he learned to do it himself. This from his doctor via a book by Mary Roach.
