The perfect combination: melody, with shred bits here and there. It needs to be groovy. 👌
So basically Buckethead?
@@yolodrol7500 So basically every Guitarist, that's considered a God.
So basically Andy James?
Most of Synyster Gates' solos
@@ConsiLoL literally the person I was thinking
melody+a bit of shred is the sweet spot

@King Nereus hahhaah what an artwork dude:D
Ride the lightning love it.
Melody for most of the song theb, shred for the solo part..
Shred + a bit of melody is pretty good too
The melody was basically me shredding
Yoo same 😂😂😂
Lol
So was I🤣
I just realized where Im at. Out with the shredding In with the melody lol
lol me too
soooo true

:)
So you’re saying Jared Dines is a Great Value Dragonforce?
Even better
Best comment evurrrrrr. I came to the comments searching for this gem.
At last, ur back at these types of vids Dared Jines

Absolutely!
Now it's a full cycle
And I'm feeling nostalgic
Lol
straight to the point. good riffs. thumbs up.
Jared: I learned sweep picking for memes on UA-cam
I can't sweep pick worth crap sadly I can only do a 3 string down stroke if at all it even counts as sweeping
Hpm guitar player i cant sweep either but hey youll get there if ya practice
@@mystic6l649 Brother.. We all will 👌
@@hpmguitarplayer most important thing i found out while trying to sweep is that "start slow then build up speed" doesnt work,if you start too slow youll just end up with downstrokes on all strings and develop a bad habit. its best to start with a slow strum up and down and then try to callibrate your left hand to sound only the string your strum is on in that moment, and mute all other. right hand muting is also important but you should have that figured out already if youre ready to sweep. It may also be that habit of only using alternate picking is whats holding you back, i sugest you try some economy picking excercises just to (kinda) get into mindset for sweeping
@@LAZARCAR98 I will keep that in mind thanx for tip man 👌
0:42 is absolutely killer!!!
It is a great melody for a chorus, yes but not enough for a solo
loved that bit
50procentkorting kinda reminds me of Ghost in the walls by Dangerkids
For the fallen dreams, or parkway
It kinda has a The Raven Age vibe
That melodic part at 0:42 destroys every other part in the whole video. Absolutely incredible but simple.
Turgon Dóiteán kinda sounds like a Miss May I riff
Can dude have an opinion
songs like the ultimate as i lay dying riff
It's just the same thing over a bunch of chords. More of a riff really
Excatly what i thought
Melody and Shred together is obviously the way to go. Best example: Marty Friedman
Also, Gary Moore.
That's not the best example....
Tornado of souls is the perfect exemple of a melody and shred solo
Best example - John Godtrucci
@@ElioRigonat Well, Gary Moore is a god like player but his playing has heavy emphasize on melody. His shredding is rather mild so that's why it is not the perfect example on the search for balanced play between shred and melody
Song stops mid solo ...
“This solo is brought to you by dollar shave club”..
Stevie T would have them as a sponsor but he hasn’t reached puberty yet
haha I would even understand that. hard to make money as a musician
HOLD UP GAMERS, cause this solo is sponsored by TANKS
Austin Dickey shows up mid solo, 5 times louder..."y'all mind if i do a sponsorship?"
Dollar Shred Club!
Shred + Melody = Shrody

MRED
Teaching my axe to be shrelodic!!!! Got to love that!!! Hilarious play on words!!!!!
Melody all the way. But I think a healthy balance is the best
Agreed! Both are equally important
Nah, shredding is better
Melodic is for christian metalcore. Slayer.
@IIIIISIXXIIIIII yeah, it's hard to grab an audience with nothing but shred! Lol! There is no journey in that! I would be bored to tears. Too much of one thing or the other just gnaws at me!
The only one and the one and only Buckethead is the only musician who can keep me interested with loads of shredding because, well, you know, he's Buckethead! The GOAT!!!
@IIIIISIXXIIIIII agree.... its true bro.... !!😉
I'm definitely melody guy. Including the whole staring at the shred guy trying to figure out how the hell he is doing what he's doing
Yup. Wish i knew how to shred like that.
Same lol
Im usually staring at the shred guy wondering why he thinks it sounds good.
@@ginsuma1402 As a shred guy, it sounds more spectacular to me. However a mix of both is the way to go 🤘
@@ginsuma1402 It in fact does, as shown in the vid
1:46 I love when guitarists do that
"Let´s just learn from each other"
I totally expected "NO" and cut to the end.
Right. That's the response IRL. But it's nice to see a not so predictable ending.
Melody is the older brother that is mature well behaved and has a job
Shred the badass younger brother that doesn't give a crap
excellent comparison. :)
Rhythm is the middle child, amazing in their own right, but often overlooked.
The truth is that most of the fast playing he performed was in a melodic groove and was phrased well.
That riff from the melody part though, that was really good wtf. It’s easy to come up with unique lead lines - so many notes and patterns to choose from to sound different, but it’s difficult to create a riff that sticks and at the same time not get copyright flagged. That riff was simple but was really good, cheers!
1:06 anyone feeling Stricken by this section? It quite Disturbed me
Yep
Yea that is definitely inspired by that.
I absolutely love the majesty. Jared is also really good at convincing himself to work with himself. That’s a good trait. Keep up the good fight.
Melody works so well because it compliments the rhythm and the keys being used
I loved the way how Jared make some of these comparisons... thumbs up!
Hey man I just wanted to say your so inspiring, I'm just beginning and I have to say I really love watching and studying you play and cant wait to get as good as you one day, thank you!
Devil: Do you wanna became melody god or shred god?
John Petrucci: Shut up normie, I'm already both.
John was probably like I'm already mastering dissonance and have memorized every known chord as well as inventing my own. What do you have to offer?
@notwastd you have obviously listened to almost no dream theatre if you think that petrucci is all about shred.
Steve Vai: Do u even tremolo though?
The Dank Soviet I’ve seen this dude before complaining about “shred wankers” bet he can’t even play 035
notwastd yeah well have you ever listened to a fucking petrucci solo? it’s not only fast arps kid, stop just making bs claims without even knowing what you’re talking about. you just hear one arp and get all insecure because you can’t do it.
I think a mix between shred and melody makes amazing solos
It's called Dimebag.
Stefan Alex It's also called Schuldiner
yes yes, good point.
Marty friedman
Jesper Marty Friedman came mind when seeing these videos
This rocks! Your composing (improvising?) skills are remarkable
Dude this little track was amazing, I really dig both styles and you are insanely talented. All of that looked like so much fun.

It's amazing how far you have come as a guitarist in the couple of yrs that I've followed you. No cap
Jared is finally back at these types of videos.
Thank god!
Honestly utilizing both with melody for the riffs and shred for the solo is perfect.
John Petrucci in a nutshell
Yesssss! Love the balance at the end... Would've liked it to go a minute longer though lol
when you put these together it's a masterpiece like I get my rythm guitarist to play melody like that whilst the lead guitarist shreds and it's awesome
I hope you are happy where you are Jared.
You're such a humble man, talented but humble.
I'm glad, like many other djentlemen here, that you're doing that kind of videos.
The melody starting at 0:42 and the shred that compliments it are SICK! That sounds like something off of a mid 2000's In Flames album and I'm here for it!
This video is actually beautiful thank you Jared. Can this pls become a song?
Hi Jared! Greetings from India, it's a nice message too bro.. God bless and all the very best in all your future endeavors.
I was just thinking about In Flames for the whole time.
Soilwork, Mors Principium Est...
Hell yeah. Jesper and Bjorn will always be my favorite guitar duo, they’ve got a special place in my heart. I could go on forever about their decline, but that doesn’t take away from the old stuff.
The best solos are those with a bit of everything. Great video as always Jared

Listen to it over and over again and figure it out playing by ear is a good thing too lol not judging just sayin'

@@The_Rude_French_Canadian i was trying to write it down by ear + looking at the frets, but not knowing which tunning he is using does make it a little harder for starter guitarists. i assume it is Drop D, but not sure... any ideas?
Try not to pay attention to the frets that much, all you need are the pitches of the notes

MR.Dines always classy and oh so very humble ..we need more peeps like you in this world my friend.
I like Slash’s balance of shred and melody. Perfect.
Yeah but he's lost a lot of it these last years. He's obsessed with mindless pseudo-shredding. His studio solos are great though...
I was gonna say that fuck man
Slash is not much of a shredder
2:44 That's the solo you put on your Snapchat story
OMG it’s you again! Ha! How do I see you on EVERY comment section on every video that I watch!
Yesss!!! Wicked combo!!
Probably still my favorite vid from Jared
Remember guys, in a good solo, you gotta have a mix of the two to make your solo interesting. Especially if you build it up in intensity, like Ride The Lightning, La Villa Strangiato, Caught Somewhere In Time, Or Heaven Can Wait, take your pick, Home Sweet Home, all my favorite solos have that awesome ass melody/shred in them.
It's a well known fact that the solos get better the more Amps and cabs you use.
Love how it all falls in together 💯🤘🏼
This was awesome. I am always melody over shred, but love properly done shredding. I laughed my a off. Nicely done. Nice production quality too.
Yo Jared awesome job on those Breaking Benjamin riffs with the ten second man
Melody and shred are both awsome but only cuz Jared is playing!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great flick. Excellent playing 👍
The combine of both become an amazing music
To be fair that was a pretty melodic shred, I’ve seen some soulless shredding and melody always beats that
I like melodic better because i can't shred but i want to shred
same bro same
The learn how to? Learn a few scales (my personal favourites are A phrygian: you play the notes of D minor, but start and end with an A; and G minor: playing the aforemention "D minor notes" but everything one string higher). This gives you reference points. Then play at a moderate speed, that allows you to play comfortably, without cramping up, without playing sloppy anf basically noodle around a bit. Learn a few solos or lead licks of your favourite guitarists. Learn how phrasing works (instead of playing scales up and down play patterns of notes, use repetitions, create motifs etc.). Learning how to shred isn't that hard. The hard part is sitting your ass down and start doing it.
If you want some amazing videos on the topic, watch Ben Eller's "Why You Suck" series of videos and his other tutorials and Troy Grady's videos on picking and stuff.
No sence
Shredding is easier to learn than proper vibrato, and proper vibrato makes you sound 100x better than sweeping tons of scales. As someone who basically did non-stop shred/sweep practice for years and can play almost anything except insane 8 finger tapping Broderick stuff, I fully regret not practicing vibrato seriously at the same time and needed to dedicate a very long time after being able to mindlessly shred anything to sound like a competent guitarist. It was much harder to develop a really good vibrato IMO than being able to sweep any arpeggio, but the payoff of a great vibrato is way more than sweeping.
When you can do both however, then you reach Marty Friedman status.
@@orangestapler8729 that's fucking true
