      Curly Susie Curly Susie Hi there! Do you know what the gel is good for? Do they put it in in the Curly Girl Method in order to shape the hair and get rid of frizz because they want to, or is it necessary to teach the hair over time what to do when you are still transitioning from damaged to curly hair so that it knows what to do, and when you’re there you can stop it? I don’t want to use it but I don’t know if it would interfere with the method not to. I am confused because: doesn’t gel also contain alcohol and things that are bad for you? Then why do we use it? Are there special types?? Thanks in advance, I hope you see this comment and reply me or make a video!! xxx

      Hey Lea! When you follow the curly Girl Method you use Gels & Products with no Alcohol & No Silicone. My favourite Gel actually conditions my hair :)
      This technique is basically just an example of how to style your hair without heat. I have a video where I explain everything. It’s called “easy/oversimplified Curly Girl Method for newbies” one interesting thing about the video is you can see how much better my hair is now after just a few months of shooting that video... & I use gel every single day.

    In my family with 3 women, I am the only curly haired girl. I've never been taught how to treat curly hair, and I would comb it out and have it looking frizzy. The only solution I knew of was to put it in a bun. My sister's always made fun of my hair, and I felt ugly because my hair never looked like theirs. I found your video last week. The first time I tried casting I cried at how gorgeous my hair looked. My sister's kept wanting to touch my hair. I never felt so pretty. Thank you! 💕

      I have no idea if my mom has curly hair, she just referred to our hair as “frizzy” and the goal was always to straighten it out. She still considers my hair messy when I go all natural, but actually started complimenting my curls once I started trying new techniques. Thanks a lot mom, too little too late. I still have a complex where I don’t feel good about my natural hair. But I don’t want to keep frying it every day for no good reason.

    Little tip: use a wide tooth comb or a denman brush after applying the gel and before scrunching. Your curls will be the most perfect, smooth ribbon-y ringlets)

      @@brendadon9394 I understand the struggle, but my hair just gets tangled so much and so easily that I really have to comb it before I wash it, during washing it and after. If I don't it's just a big mess and impossible to deal with.
      I'm now trying to do that as little as possible, but I still have to. I've heard that combing it while it's wet is okay if you do it while conditioning your hair, but I still have to comb it after I rinse out as well, otherwise it will just lay flat at the roots.
      So maybe try using a leave-in or hair milk before the casting, and then comb through it when you apply the gel.
      I'd recommend using a hair milk, I've found it's nowhere near as heavy as a leave-in conditioner, but it works really well with helping me detangle my hair.

    • @Ozpu
      @Ozpu 5 років тому +13

      Aleksandra Anja Kuzmic Hi ☺️ I feel you. Tangly hair and knots all over are soooo annoying. You should maybe try out another conditioner or use more. Since I started using a shit ton of conditioner I only have to brush before washing and a little bit while the conditioner is rinsing out. The conditioner detangles most of the knots. You just have to use so much that they start “dissolving” during rinsing. For me, if I brush it after I washed it my curls get frizzier and it just doesn’t look as good.

    • @untetheredsoul
      @untetheredsoul 5 років тому +19

      @@brendadon9394 A wide tooth comb is fine, you just don't want one with thin spaces because it can snap hairs. You can get specific ones for wet hair if you're worried. Hope that helps! X

    Great video Susie I loved it! This is like watching myself in the shower LOL I've been using the LA looks gel a lot lately because I live in New York City and it's super humid here and this stuff really blocks humidity like a boss! I used to be terrified of gel but I came to realize that I needed to use at least double to Triple the amount I thought I should be using to get good results! I really love that you keep it simple, I watch other curly haired UA-camrs and the one thing that turns me off is using too many products and spending massive amounts of money on a routine. I do enjoy watching people review all different sorts of products but with certain UA-camrs if they are always reviewing more and more and more products week after week and they love nearly everything they try it makes me not as interested anymore. Simplicity is key, I like to know that wherever I go in this world I can take the techniques with me and look for inexpensive products to get good results. Love your videos! I was shocked to see you using something different than your beloved biotera LOL

    Another thing to note about gel is that if you want your hair to have longer hold, you can just leave the cast in and let it break naturally throughout the day. This would be really good if you live in a humid climate too 🙏🏻

    I've been using a similar method pretty much from the mid 80's on. It's almost the same, but with the following changes which make things a bit easier and faster: 1) After washing hair I wrap my head in a towel for a couple of minutes to remove the majority of the water. The hair should be pretty wet, but definitely not dripping wet. 2) Apply the gel, I just scrunch it in 3) Bend over so head is downwards and hair is hanging down whilst blowdrying hair on a medium temperature but low speed to avoid frizz. 4) WHILE blowdrying, squeeze bits of hair between hands so that you don't end up with a hard gel shell. The reason you wouldn't want a hard gel shell is because some gels will start to flake away once "broken" and the last thing you want is to look like you have dandruff! But if you are already softening up the gel into the curls whilst blowdrying, you never get that problem.

    I had bone straight hair growing up. Now, growing older, my hair has a wavier pattern. I always blow dry my hair to make it straight. I've been watching curly/wavy hair videos for quite some time now and came across this video yesterday. It seemed simple enough for me so I tried on my hair today. Now my hair is beautifully wavy with almost no frizz. Since it's very damaged, I guess I could have even more beautiful waves once it's healthy. I will try to enhance my natural pattern from now on! Thank you for this video!

      Hi Elianne! You are 100% right. The healthier your hair is the better this works. My hair is so healthy now that I don’t really use enough gel to get a cast that I have to break out but In the beginning I really needed that cast to make my hair frizz free when it was more damaged. The whole point is to eventually have healthy wash & go hair that is your own natural texture. Thanks for your comment.

    Thank you for sharing I've been "making a cast " since I was 13, first leaning how to style my curly hair ( mainly 3a curly girls ). Back then I just left the crunch because I jst didn't know better. I love that you use one product and kept it real worth the amount of gel you use. It reminds me I don't need to spend a ton and keeps me in check. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. It doesn't have to be complicated, you don't have to literally but into the hype to get your natural beautiful curls to work for you. Trail & error couldn't be more true do what works for you share & support each othe!
    Thanks again doll 💋

    This video was recommended on my UA-cam homepage. I don’t know how UA-cam knows I have curly hair. I have always had wavy/curly hair but 99% of the time I blow dry it straight. I could never get it to stay curly and frizz free without the crunchy look which is super obvious in my blond hair. I had 4 kids in 3 years and I’m almost 2 years postpartum from my twins and half my hair fell out and what’s left is twice as curly as before and will not stay straight. I watched this last night and tried it this morning and I am blown away. Blown away it worked and blown away that it took me 31 years to figure it out. 2 of my kids have curlier hair than me so this is so helpful. Thank you so much!

    Hi so I tried this in a rush before work. Didn’t get time to use the t shirt just a reg towel and used less gel but it worked wonderfully. My hair is in the transitioning phase since I was a chronic straightener. This is a tedious task of reviving curls I didn’t appreciate I’m on my second week of no heat. Used tresemme gel and my hair wasn’t crunchy at all just a little inconsistent as some parts are straight and some curly from damage. Your vids have been super helpful!!

If I use the wrong products it looks like rat tails. :-( I would recommend trying different products that are cgm approved, lots of squish to condish, an extra strong gel, and leave the gel cast for as long as you can stand it. Like a couple of hours if possible. Make sure it's bone dry before you scrunch it out. Hope this helps. ☺

      Much better than I expected! I used clips on the top of my head and I squeed when I took them out - so much volume! It did take longer than I'd anticipated to get all of the crunch out though. I got excited and worried at the same time. I'm so afraid of frizz, but I know a certain amount is natural. I'm not quite into my 3rd week of the CGM, so I need to remember to take a breath and not expect so much so soon.

    I’m glad that you made this video. When I was younger and kept my hair curly, this is exactly what I used to do. I have very thick hair and found this was the best way to keep the curls frizz free and well defined. As I got older and curly hair became “a thing” and MOISTURE became the focus, I became so frustrated with my hair because it would get too big or less defined or frizzy when dry if I didn’t use the right stuff-and just decided to stick to straight hair. You reminded me how simple and effective this method could be and it just goes to show that jumping on the band wagon doesn’t work for everyone. ❤️

    Loved it! A little tip, when you diffuse, it's better to start from your roots and going down slowly or not diffuse your end at all. That way you'll get softer ends and prevent split ends from the heat damage when diffusing directly your ends! When you start by your ends first they will get all the heat first and that will only cause split ends and dryness. If you like doing this anyway, you should at least put a oil on your ends or some protective/sealant to keep them soft :) Hope that helps. Thanks for the video!
