  • This video, Easy Curly Girl Method for Beginners, is a revamp of one of my first videos. The info is the same, but the video is better quality & much much shorter.
In this video I am only going to tell you the things you NEED to know. My advice is to start here and then learn and build on your routine from there. That’s what I did ❤️

sorsaria this is me, too. I got a removable shower head and it saved my life. I still take a scalding hot shower, I just make sure that the hot water doesn’t hit my hair at all.
To wet my hair or to rinse shampoo/conditioner out of it, I turn the water cold, flip my head upside down so my hair is hanging freely, and do whatever I need to do to my hair without the freezing water hitting my body at all.

As someone with curly hair THANK YOU. Your daughter will love that took care of her curls and taught her how to do it correctly too. Everyone in my family has straight hair so they didn't know that you have to care for curly hair differently. My hair has been just a puffy, frizzy, mess and I didn't realize I was taking care of it wrong until 6 months ago. I'm not blaming them though, they couldn't have known. I hated my hair for years because it never looked like the other girls hair. I'm so happy that your daughter won't have to go through that. It might seem like this is something small but by just simply researching her hair you're doing so much good for her in the future.

Hot water is actually good for the hair. It opens up your pores and allows conditioner and water to be absorbed better. The thing is you have to finish off with a cold rinse to seal off your follicles and seal the frizz. If you don't your hair will be significantly more frizzy.

    • @DreamsandReality00
      @DreamsandReality00 6 років тому +21

I'm at a weird transition phase where people tell me it looks nice, but one side is curly and the other is just wavy and meh. I just overnight oiled for the first time last night, and it feels so nice. JBCO followed by red pimento oil massaged into the scalp and capped overnight. I had less frizz today than EVER, and my hair feels so soft. I seem to have a problem with gels, so I just used a curl cream after the shower. Definition wasn't great, but it's the first time it hasn't felt so dry, and it's so shiny. Susie actually made up my mind about switching when I was originally researching by how simple her routine was and how understandable, so I know exactly how you feel about the other overwhelming videos!

You have no idea how great short and to the point videos are for me...I am one of those that easily gets overwhelmed with too much info at once. The very cool thing about you that I have seen in other videos of yours, is that you explain the WHY part of the WHAT. i really dislike the info packed videos where all they do is tell me the whats and hurry through...i find myself having to seek for more videos to see if I can find out the why parts. the only thing i'll say is that braids are actually really good for damaged hair. keeping your hair bundled (just not pulling on your scalp at all) keeps the individual hairs from being exposed to the elements. Hi Susie, I want to thank you, as a newbie to the curly girl method for your delightful, down to earth, informative videos. My curly girl journey started 3 weeks ago, while on vacation , and I couldn’t stand my hair anymore! I booked an appointment with a random salon, and lo and behold, 1900 kilometres from home, I finally found a stylist who knew how to cut my fine, curly hair, and also give me a style! She took the time to give tips on how to care for my new gorgeous look, and I have to say it was a life changing experience. 3 weeks later, I can’t stop looking at myself in the mirror! Anyways-, my point is , all the products and techniques won’t give awesome results , until you find the cut that knocks your socks off!! I will actually be “interviewing” stylists now, to try to find one at home who can cut my hair with my curl, and being prepared to spend more money than I have in the past. Your videos have given me great info on products and techniques, which I’ve found invaluable ( and fun).
    Greetings from Ontario!

Love this. After years of straightening, dying my hair, then just pulling up into buns, then keratin treatments for the last two years or so..then dying my hair again, I NEEDED to get back to basics.
I did cut my hair shorter/just above shoulder length, because my ends were also bleached and damaged (yikes! )
My hair is naturally like yours, maybe a tad coarser/curlier..
So Thank you for the encouragement and starter’s info to getting back to my curly hair roots..literally! 😊

You are amazing! Thank you for this video! I appreciate you taking the time to make something that is straightforward. I just learned about the curly girl method a few days ago, because I was getting tired of straightening my wavy/curly hair and wanted to find information on limiting the frizz. I have found several youtube videos put out from knowledgeable people who explain "in depth" the curly girl method, and how they are washing their hair etc. After a few days of starting, I was getting overwhelmed by products and ingredients etc. Then I found this video. Thank you so much! It made me feel better and super motivated to stay on the path!

I have just started to squish to condish....and love it. My hair is totally different in a great way! I need to grow my hair though..about 7 or 8 inches. I really enjoy your videos Susie! Moving from CA (where I wore my hair straight all the time) to Houston , Texas has been a big influence. Very humid here and wearing hear straight just doesn’t work.

I've been straightening my hair since I was in middle school (25 now) so I've never really remembered what it's like to have curly hair. But eventually I started washing my hair less because I was so tired of constantly straightening. And then one day I decided to be lazy just go curly. But I got a TON of compliments and my hair is still quite a frizzy mess. That's been my motivation to commit and holy crap I can actually shower and not spend an hour focused just on my hair.

Ermmm healthy curls or no? Straight is fine too but.. It sounds like you want the best of both.. there are some no heat straightening methods, but it’s probably still going to damage your curl pattern... I don’t think you can do a constant against what is natural for you, and have it be really nice, and bounce back.. idk I’m new too, but it’s what it sounds like..

Simple is really important, Thank you for this video! I am in the first week of transitioning my long thick hair to its natural curl. I had no idea how much curl there would be... so much already, which explains the tons of frizz I struggled with for decades, and all through the straight hair fad. I've read through a fair bit of the extra information and yes, maybe it helps to know my hair is super porous, but for right now I was looking for reassurance about what I'm doing because today, the results are a bit scary, and I'm not to brush this and tame it??? The earlier video you shared a link to added to the reassurance I needed to find, to continue with this.

I moved to the CGM over a year ago when shoulder surgery prevented me from even lifting a blow dryer. I paid over $200 for a deva cut and products. The stylist didn't trim a single lock of hair, just showed me the "method." I had some confusion, most specifically the huge knots I could see in my hair. I called back three times and was told I could book a "detangling" session for another $50. I've struggled ever since, mostly with lack of shine and second day touch-ups. Your videos are beyond great; I saw a huge difference after one shampoo and you've answered all of my questions. Thank you!!!

the only thing I know is : goon a fully plantbased diet, high carb low fat. Your body will then not produce not so much oil but good oil. And then on the washing day, you make a brush wet and brush the oil from the scalp into the ends. And then wash it with water. The oils are actually our natural conditioner and protects the hair. And because the LIGHT film on your hair, it is not oily, the water can't soak so much into your hair. It will dry in 30 minutes or 1 hour.

I lived my entire life thinking I had straight hair that would just occasionally get really poofy/frizzy. I even used shampoo and conditioner every single day. I had always struggled with keeping my hair maintained and finding products that didn’t make my hair too dry or too oily. I only recently discovered that my hair is actually very wavy with some curls (they’re so damaged from years of neglect!!) in my under layers after trying a new hair care regime with hair friendly products. I used to need heat and chemicals to get curls and now I just need to wet my hair; it’s crazy how someone can go their whole life without truly understanding something about themselves as obvious as their hair type. Shout out to all the folks who didn’t realize their true hair type until a lot later in life!!

I just discovered your UA-cam Channel a week ago - I have so far done the curly girl in-shower gel three times and my hair is already changing. I haven't got as far as changing my shampoo/condition to paraben-free yet, but combing the conditioner through in the shower, then applying gel in the shower and using a t-shirt to wrap the hair in - diffuse drying it and NO other product has been necessary. Already my hair is softer, curls are better defined, it looks like I have actually done something with it so I will gradually work my way through to the "right" shampoos/conditioners as I run out of the current product. Thank you!

Thank you so much for the basics!! I did a keratin treatment that has left my Dominican/Puerto Rican crazy hair COMPLETELY straight. I loved it at first but it's really annoying to have to retouch my new growth every 3 months (my hair grows really fast so it's very noticeable after just 3 months).
I was super overwhelmed because it seems like every UA-camr does something a little different or they focus heavily on one thing or worse, they talk too damn much. So thank you!!! I did a little summary of what you recommended too just in case. Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️
    -No heat, including hot showers
    -No sulfates, alchohol
-No silicones or things that aren't water soluble
-Use protective hairstyles that encourage curls. Not tight braids or ponytails.
    -Stay motivated.
-Apply gel or styling cream to soaking wet hair in the shower
-Use a t-shirt or microfiber towel to your hair

Oh my goodness. I have wavy-ish hair that I used to straighten and bleach for years and years until mid-2015. I have started following the Curly Gril Method about 2 months ago (no silicones or sulphates, a cotton t-shirt instead of a towel, no heat, brushing the hair only with my fingers or a wide-tooth comb and never once it dried) and I can already see that my hair is looking much better and curling a bit more. So far I've applied my styling product (home-made flax seed gel that I swear by!) to towel dried hair, with mixed results. Today I applied it on soaking wet hair while still in the shower and then plopped my hair as usual. I was blown away. HOLY CURLS! ZERO FRIZZ that I've been struggling with my whole life (before I realized that my frizzy hair is in fact wavy)! Thank you SO SO much for this video!
