It's a blessing to have you and your agency on social media so the ones not in the LA area can also receive the same vast of knowledge and teachings of how to properly take care of and treat things that pop up with owning pigs.

      @@lovingthelessloved3679 sadly it was UA-cam who de-monitized the last boar cleaning video. Because of the anatomy and words they classed it as not PG so then only adults can watch it and it doesn't generate money. Most annoying.
      Only boys have a sack to clean. For the girls you want to check for bladder stones and crusty nipples. If you watch the Saturday live videos you can see her do health checks and you pick up stuff the more you watch them x

    Hey Saskia. This video comes the closest to my situation as any I’ve seen before, so I’ll see if maybe you have any ideas as to what’s going on with one of my boys. So one of mine is a 1 year old werewolf. We’ve done his boar cleanings - or really just checks aside from a little debris here and there, but we’ve kept the area checked at least once a month from the beginning. Almost right away we noticed one side on the tip of his penis was swollen, a little red, and had a pretty large white bubble type thing on it. We took him to the vet - who is not a specialist, but the closest specialist to us is 2 1/2 hours away - but the vet said that she didn’t know, so she would consult the specialist that I mentioned. She took pics and sent them off to her. That vet said that she thought we may have to operate on it to remove it, but we would keep an eye on it. In the mean time, we also kept an eye on it. We noticed that sometimes it would have the white on the tip, and sometimes it wouldn’t. After sometime of consulting with the specialist, she thought it was a pustule, we also heard herpes, and then the last we heard was that the antibiotics he was on for something else, would clear it up. It’s still there. We have no idea what it is, or what to do. I’ve searched and searched online, but haven’t been able to find anything like it. I saw this video and thought maybe you’d run into something like that before with all the piggies you see. Thanks Saskia. 🙂

      Tim it is very rare for something like that to happen/ I have seen a just a few times and as long as it doesn't grow and doesn't appear to give any discomfort we usually let it be and monitor closely. An infection in that area is different and usually involves pus.

    Hey Saskia, it would be great to hear your opinion and/or advice.
    Some time ago I noticed a weird little mass, size around the tip of a match stick, sticking out from the butt of one of my guinea pig boys. It was dead center on his grease gland so I naturally assumed that it was just clumped grease at first, but when I nipped it away the guinea pig made a sound and the spot bled a bit. I cleaned it and came to the conclusion that it's actually a small sebaceous cyst but instead of growing under the skin it has, at some point, surfaced and now kinda grows outwards.
    I can and have checked on it every now and then and nipped off the excess stuff, and then sanitized the wound, which is small, maybe around 0.07 inches. It wouldn't concern me as much if the cyst would be on his rump or sides as I also have another guinea pig who had such a cyst on his side and it was surgically removed, but this one is right in the center of the grease gland and bleeds out a little bit every time we clean it up. What do you think, would it even be possible to remove it?

    • @dragonsheen3049
      @dragonsheen3049 3 роки тому

      You should probably consult a vet in person. Even if you don’t have an exotic veterinarian around you, call around to regular vets and ask. Some doctors at cat/dog hospitals are actually quite well versed in exotics as well, they just don’t advertise it. I work at a Banfield in Petsmart and we have a doctor who sees guinea pigs all the time.

    can somebody help me out?
    I tried to introduce three guinea pigs, but it didn't go too well. I had an open space and everything but they immediately started attacking each other. There were chunks of fur on the ground and one of the pigs got injured near her nose. I'm not going to try again but should I be worried for the injured piggie? The scar isn't that big.

    • @krakenbutt
      @krakenbutt 3 роки тому

      So all of the three guinea pigs are strangers to each other? The attacking and chasing are pretty normal during introductions, but of course if it leads to bloodshed you should intervene as you did. If the wound on the guinea pig's nose isn't big and just skin-deep, it should be enough if you just make sure to keep it clean and see if it starts to swell or have redness. These symptoms can indicate that the wound is infected and probably filling up with puss. If it does, you might need a vet to check it out and maybe some antibiotics, but if it just heals up and doesn't look irritated it should be fine.

    • @kashroyal
      @kashroyal 3 роки тому

      just keep it clean and keep and eye on it, most people would say take it to a vet to get professionally looked at and im in that boat but if you wanna just keep an eye on it for a while id understand that too. if it gets bigger, looks infected or swelling doesnt go away or gets worse definitely take it in to get looked at

    I just noticed some on my neutered boars, along with the "lining". Is it normal for neutered boars to also have this happen? My boys aren't babies, but I wouldn't call them senior piggies.

    • @LosAngelesGuineaPigRescue
      @LosAngelesGuineaPigRescue  9 місяців тому

      Yes sure - after neutering the perineal sac "shrinks" and impaction, unless already present, can be avoided as they get older. I did notice though that neutered males tend to get a LOT of smegma around the winky so be sure to check that often.
