      Cuddles with Cavies haha....I often say that about my chinchillas, while they are eating each other's poop and masturbating next to each other (especially while watching Sofia the First....hmmm...I think my male chins have a thing for her lol). My herd of younger male chins (there are 4 of them together) will play fight and pee on each other. I also have two that refuse to groom the fur around their hineys, and I have to brush and remove those clumps of fur, since they absorb pee and get gross fast, especially during shed season (which is year round for three of them-they shed nonstop...ugh).

    I just want to say thank you for you videos. We have 3 piggies and had one special one pass away. When we got our first 2 we researched so many things but never got the info we have gotten from your videos. My 10 year old daughter found you on her on her own has followed you for a several years now and thinks your just amazing. She has a bond with the piggies I have never thought a human could have with a pig and for years has said how when she grows up wants to be just like you. I watch the videos with her and you have opened our eyes up to so much especially the cages and diet. I really thought we were responsible pet owners until you broke down pretty much basic common sense of how small pet shop cages in a video with a pet store cage and fake guinea pig. I was always told that's all they needed and thought I went a step above by getting the bigger size, and I realize now it so isn't enough. I felt so sad for them and just horrible after realizing the reality of this. we will be building our first C an C cage this weekend! It's common sense but so many people are told how little space they need and that's why they are great pets and trust it. Thank you so much for sharing your piggies and videos, they have educated us in a way everyone should be but aren't and we are forever grateful! we love our piggies as family members and want the best for them to be happy and healthy! 😀

    I watched this as soon as the notification came up , but I wanted my husband to see it too , for the information , so this evening I played it through the tv , and at 5:11 , when one of the piggies start squeaking , my piggy Chopin stopped eating hay , and looked around as much as to say , who's voice is that ? It was so funny .
    Thanks so much for this video . Chopin is our first male piggy , so I was very interested in seeing how to clean the grease gland .Thanks a lot for doing this health and medical series . It is so helpful 🙂

      If you got a guinea pig that isn't a skinny pig thats a girl. You wouldn't usually need to clean them with coconut oil. The biggest pain, I find is if you use fleece. It's a bit of a pain to brush off the hay before washing the fleece.

    You're so right about getting lumps and bumps checked by a vet!
    Roary had a lump in his neck, turned out to be an abscess that formed from a bad bottom front tooth. Had tooth removed but the wound won't heal in his neck. Been on Baytril. Even had the neck swabbed to find out what specific bacteria to treat for. He was put on another round of Baytril and had a drain tube put in so we can flush the pus out with diluted betadine... horrible smell, ugh! Tube taken out Mon. and it doesn't seem any better. In fact, a hard lump is forming again. We still flush it 2x daily but I don't know what else to do. He has another check up on Mon. We've been battling this for months. 😔
    I think if Roary's not better we will go to a specialist and see if we can get to the bottom of what's causing the infection. He will be 4 in December.

    I noticed you bathe your guinea pigs quite frequently, especially Calvin. I've read and I've also heard from people online that bathing guinea pigs too often can dry out their skin, wipe off all the natural skin oils, and should only be done a few times a year. My boys get smelly very quickly (they are both furry guinea pigs) and they also love to lay where they pee and poo so I find they have pee/poo covered tummies and feet most of the time. Is it okay to give baths all the time to only skinny pigs, or can furry pigs have them too? How does Calvin's skin not get dried up? I heard you mention that Calvin has perfect skin in another video so I was wondering how that is possible.

    • @skinnypigs1
      @skinnypigs1  7 років тому

      Calvin has medical issues so needs his stomach and back legs washed off each day almost. I am not washing his entire body with shampoo, so I am not stripping off his natural skin oils, just washing off pee/poo on his tummy and back legs daily if needed. Skinny pigs can be lathered up with coconut oil as well to ensure their skin is staying soft and hydrated.
      As for the other guinea pigs, I am not sure why you are under the impression I bath them often? I maybe do a full bath 1-2 times a year and bum baths more often if needed. I always use a guinea pig safe shampoo and only wash what is needed.

    • @skinnypigs1
      @skinnypigs1  7 років тому

      What size of cage do you have for the boys, how old are they and what bedding are you using? Isn't normal for pee/poo covered tummies to happen often for guinea pigs generally speaking.

    • @Em-lr7vh
      @Em-lr7vh 7 років тому

      Oh, I'm sorry for not being clearer. I understand that full baths shouldn't be done often. I was wondering if I could do the same thing you're doing for Calvin, washing his lower-half, with my boys. I was under the impression you bathe your guinea pigs often because I see Calvin getting a bath in a lot of your videos. My boys are in a 2x6 C&C cage and they are on fleece. I recently switched to a different kind of hayrack, the same one you have in your guinea pigs' cage. I noticed that now they absolutely love to sleep and sit under there and that is why their tummies and feet get dirty. Their poops and pees mainly go under that hayrack. I spotclean twice a day. I'm not sure their exact age; I wouldn't say they are older than 2.5 years.

    • @skinnypigs1
      @skinnypigs1  7 років тому

      It is just Calvin who is just getting the tummy bath often, the rest are only as needed, which isn't very often at all.
      Do you have a good absorbent layer with your fleece?
      What about putting a litter box under their hay rack that has a disposable bedding in it? Maybe that will help.
      You can wash their tummies if it is needed, it is better to be clean than have bacteria sitting around their tummies and groins.

    • @Em-lr7vh
      @Em-lr7vh 7 років тому

      Yes, I use U-haul underneath. One of my boys loves to chew on the plastic of the litter boxes to the point where some teeny-tiny pieces of plastic come off so I'm afraid he'll eventually ingest it. He also does the same thing with fleece cozies such as those fleece cubes or anything else made of fleece that's closed/covered/has a roof. He climbs up to the upper corner of the fleece cube and chews at the seams/fleece. I've even spotted a few pieces of torn fleece in their cage when that happened. I no longer put those items in their cage because I don't wanna risk him eating the fleece.
      Thanks for the help!

    What type of fleece do you use for you guinea pigs? Can you send a link to show me where you got the fleece and can you send a video on the fleece you have? I'm thinking of investing in fleece. You know about Bumblefoot, I need help will the Epsom Salt... #1 How much salt should I use?
    #2 How often should I do this?
    #3 Will the Bumblefoot stop inflating?
    #4 Does Epson salt really work for Bumblefoot?
    #5 Is it okay for my guinea pig to lick it off? (Don't worry he didn't)

      sometime it can be a foreign object that's irritating the eye (like hay for example) and the eye is trying to protect itself.

    See I always do it under water when I do butt bathes with warm water and coconut oil after it's clean and I use my fingers so I have more control. Henry my neutered male had a ton of waxy stuff u were talking about but not as much sense neuter. Is that normal

    • @skinnypigs1
      @skinnypigs1  7 років тому +1

      Yes normal, when neutered their whole anal sack is smaller and does not seem so messy like the un-neutered boars.

    • @pandemic3381
      @pandemic3381 4 роки тому

      Thats because its a perineal sack. Not an anal sack, thats not a thing that exists. That waxy stuff is smegma, when neutered they would have nearly as much discharge

    • @queenerika_4613

      Der Boss The minimum for two piggies is 7.5 square feet or 2x3 grids and the preferred size is 10.5 square feet or 2x4 grids. If you have male pigs I would opt for the larger size.
