    I think what Armored Warfare really needs is an artillery that's so powerful that if it hits you in game it shuts down your computer and the tier 10 artillery doesn't even have to log in, people who play it should just press Enter on their keyboard and they can hit anyone in any match they want.

    Actually, if a tank got hit by a modern artillery I'd expect nothing more than a giant hole in the ground to remain when the smoke has cleared...

    • @Mithirael
      @Mithirael 9 років тому +9

      Even more so since a modern tank fires a (most comonly used) 120mm HEAT or APCR shell. The arty? Well that would be at least a 155mm HE, or maybe the Excalibur round? Results of being hit by that? It's either a giant hole in the ground with not much tank left, OR it's a giant hole in the tank with not much of the inside left...

    • @Ugh-Fudge_Bwana
      @Ugh-Fudge_Bwana 9 років тому +5

      Shade Cool. In return Arty players should have sat view and angle view completely removed, and they should be given a range finder and a projectile trajectory calculator instead. Want to add realistic artillery to an arcade game? Make them use the realistic method for calculating firing solutions instead of clicking on tanks in top-down view.

      ***** That would of course be fun, but I'm more pointing out the fact that Jingles thought it would make sense if arty did as much damage as a MBT, and I don't share that opinion. Personally I'm fine with how it is, and how it's going to become. My computer's tendency to not run online games will make me unable to ever play the game anyways :/

      Real Life. You can spot tanks in clear line of Sight at basically an distance and they don't just turn invisible after 400m or whatever the stat page of your tank says. Also real tanks don't have healthbars. And artillery strikes are a bit more complicated than that. (lighting up the target, transmitting the data to the artillery unit, loading the gun and firing.) Artillery can strike fast nowadays, but it isn't as quick as in WoT / AW

    So far it looks like WoT with modern tanks and a reskinned HUD, hopefully it won't stay like that...

    • @wargames43
      @wargames43 9 років тому +14

      it uses the cry engine so it already is better then WoT's engine so not just reskinned this is also pre alpha so not even close to public release alpha graphics will change as it uses cryengine it is also capeble of deploying more realistic physics then WoT or War Thunder does (look at how realistic Star Citizen is for a space sim game)

    • @lgliam
      @lgliam 9 років тому +19

      The big difference for me is the game engine, WoT uses one of the worst optimised engines I've used. Playing that game on the highest graphical settings not only looks shit, but also requires a ridiculous amount of hardware.

    As an User Experience Interface Designer this made me cringe. They literally copied the WoT interface. The layout, the icons, the way data is presented, it's all an exact copy.
    For an Alpha they built the maps, they built models, they created statistics for the vehicles, but the Interface is apparently seen as "something we'll do later".
    I truly hope Obsidian Entertainment hires skilled Interface Designers to rectify this. Just copying "something that works" is bad development for all but very very early pre-alpha development stages.

      IxyCRO A shameless copy of a map they can get away with. It's the shameless copy of the interface and gameplay that makes this no more than WoT2.0.

      Just because it's an alpha doeesn't mean you can't call it a copy because that is what it is at this very moment even if it is subject to change. People think the "it's alpha" excuse is universal.

    • @Tatanori
      @Tatanori 9 років тому +6

      Having played my fair share of "alpha" and "beta" games, more often then not companies just use it as an excuse. I'am honestly not expecting too many changes, don't get me wrong it'll look a lot prettier when it's finally released but what you see now is a pretty good idea of what'll be like when it's released.

    • @dy031101
      @dy031101 9 років тому +2

      ***** One of the reasons why alpha tests are limited to a selected few is precisely to protect the game development from people who subscribe to your line of thinking. People like that would only start giving relevant criticisms after the first iteration of changes are implemented and game progresses into beta stage; until then it'd be just a sea of hot garbage that the developer frankly doesn't need to wade through when the priority is to get the barebone playable and then actually build these changes onto the barebone.

    • @koberko
      @koberko 9 років тому +1

      yeah; I got same "WoTy" feel from it... It will have to do much more and much different then WOT to make me interested... And in my opinion, WWII era tanks are far more interesting then modern tanks, due to modern advances in weapons and reactive armors... But, let's wait and see where this will go...

  • @virtualalias
    @virtualalias 9 років тому +7

    Wow... Some disclaimers:
    1. No, Obsidian shouldn't have to re-invent the wheel. WoT is working (obviously) and thus deserves looking at.
    2. Yes, this is alpha testing for the game. I get that. It isn't currently what it will be on release.
    But let's go over some shocking similarities here that have to be mentioned. I'm not saying they're bad or that I don't like games that cherry pick from other games.
    1. Light/Medium/Heavy/TD/Artillery markers are identical to WoT, as far as I can tell.
    2. Mini-Map is nearly identical to WoT
    3. "City Map" is nearly identical to Himmelsdorf ("The Hill", "Grinder", Open space in the middle and clear lanes at the bottom...Not a perfect copy, but wow is it close.)
    4. Shell selection area is nearly identical to WoT
    5. Consumable selection and content nearly identical to WoT (Fairly standard Repair/Crew Med/Fire Extinguisher setup)
    6. Ally/Enemy Name and Tank driven panels nearly identical to WoT
    7. Top-Down Tank Health/Module Damage Indicator Panel nearly identical to WoT with some minor layout differences and an addition of "Sixth Sense" haphazardly thrown in
    8. Garage very similar to WoT
    9. Chat positioned exactly as it is in WoT
    10. Tank death notification area positioned exactly as it is in WoT
    11. Artillery gameplay seemingly identical/nearly identical to WoT
    12. Silhouette highlighting mechanic identical to WoT
    13. Garage Tank Carousel placed identically to WoT
    14. Favorite/Type/Tier filters are identically placed, but are words rather than icons (probably no major UI treatment yet, I'm sure)
    15. Service button placed identically to WoT
    16. Garage Battle button nearly identically placed to WoT
    17. I'm sure more.. I haven't seen the end-battle screens or how users select chat commands (radial menu perhaps?) or how/if one can highlight a map square for the team
    That's an incredible amount of similarities. This does save Obsidian a lot of interface usability testing, as WoT has already done that for them by way of years of user feedback. One could say that WoT has established "conventions" and "best practices" that should be followed, in the same way that many Office clones work a lot like Microsoft products. It's going to make WoT players feel very comfortable with such a familiar interface environment.
    It's clear who they're gunning for.They want an arcade-style tank battle game. You can't shrug off too many of these "big-picture" decisions as "Alpha testing" decisions that will change. If you're familiar with software design, you know that a lot of planning and prototyping goes into development before or alongside code writing and asset generation. One can safely assume that just because we're just hearing about the game now, doesn't mean it hasn't been in the planning/prototyping/concepting stages of development for quite a while...maybe even years. Once you've made it to Alpha, superficial/stability changes occur, but you're very unlikely to see any full code-re-writes or sweeping changes in creative direction.
    The only question is: "Will they innovate?" And, if so, where?
    (If it matters, I'm a professional UI Designer.)

    • @xKillerClownx
      @xKillerClownx 9 років тому +2

      Apparently they will innovate in the crew system, which they say will be an RPG crew system. Though, I'm not personally sure how that's going to be any different than WoT either, since WoT crews gain exp and learn skills (pretty much an RPG crew system in and of itself). Some innovation will be the way armor reacts to shells. I'd say we'll just have to wait and see on some of that, the rest (what's already shown) I doubt will change much. People keep pushing the "alpha" thing as if the entire design and code will be changed, I guess most people haven't played very many alpha/beta tests. I personally have played well over 300 betas, and somewhere around 200 alphas (therefore, I agree completely with your last paragraph), and unless OE decides to take a path that's never been taken before, what is shown is what the game will look like, at least initially, with maybe some minor cosmetic adjustments.

    Hahaha , i remember when this thing was in closed beta , there were people in WoT-related news sites giving free CB keys for the next "wot killer" . Look at what it became , a ghost town , with every person that bet on it gone or still trying to revive a corpse thats already long decomposed . Kinda funny , it's most dangerous enemy wasn't WoT or WT , but the same companies that devised it.

    It's like you people didn't even listen to a word Jingles said. Yes, what you see now looks a lot like World of Tanks. Jingles said that. A lot. And he also said that this is only a sample of what is to come. Did none of you watch the previous Armored Warfare video in which he talked about all of the many ways it's going to be different? Before you go crying about how it's the exact same as WoT, give it some time to become a full fucking game first ffs. Not just a *basic gameplay test*

      Honestly, I'm betting at least half of the people crying that this is a WoT clone didn't even bother to watch the video. They just came in to comment and left immediately after. Amateurish trolling and nothing more. Anyone with two brain cells and enough patience to actually listen to the first 10 minutes would have heard Jingles say multiple times that this video would not be indicative of the final product we eventually get for Armored Warfare. But it only takes one brain cell to troll, and most people just like getting a cheap laugh or rise out of people. So there you go.

      1bobland Yes, people with critical thinking! Those that dont take it from some YT video maker telling them it's gona be WAY WAY different then what we're seeing on the screen like he's in Dev team making the game.
      What you saw was what you will get with minor tweeks and twerks (It always goes like that). They will also add some RPG element as a frosting on the cake but core gameplay will be almoast the same as seen in this video.
      You dont believe me, fine. Go take a peek at Destiny's closed concept alpha 1 year old videos and video 1 day old.(99% same game) Then come back and claim otherwise.

    • @moondawgify
      @moondawgify 9 років тому +6

      Health bars are the best way to balance a game dude, if not the game becomes too randome. (seen on other fps games as cs, tf2, tribes, etc) You could also argue it´s a tank game but, it´s not going for realistic gameplay at all, it´s still an arcade game. (a good game to look at if you want realistic tanks is red orchestra 2, though it doesn´t have many at all) On the last dude, WT should just go full blown realism. Atm it´s just a weak "simulator" but, the full simulation battles are good (no idea if they are sitll around)

    • @ShredWithMe1
      @ShredWithMe1 9 років тому

      moondawgify SO not true man, I 100% disagree with you. "health bars are the best way to balance a game dude", more like health bars are the number one way to stifle gameplay!

    • @moondawgify
      @moondawgify 9 років тому

      ***** Pretty much unless you want to be randomly 1 shotted (this can happen with health bars also but, normally it´s the enemy player outplaying you) you use health bars or a health system, if not like above it´s just too random (not saying any rng is bad in the game if it can be manipulated, like on hearthstone)..
      And also not having any health bars also holds back most if not any competitive play which also effectivly shortens the life of the game.
      Bassicly only simulators can get away by not having any health bars or no health system (can´t think of any game that isn´t a simulator doesn´t use them dude).

    • @marrioman13
      @marrioman13 9 років тому +4

      Without health bars more skill is needed to 1 shot an enemy, you have to know where to penetrate and get the right shot on it. Having simple health bars instead of component damage is a terribly boring move. The game is MORE enjoyable when you have to adapt to damage and avoid showing key parts.

    At the moment, it looks like a re-skinned WOT with modern tanks and a better overall game engine. If Wargaming ever finally decides to update WOT's physics engine to Havok, we will be looking at the same game with a few minor details changed. I hope that Obsidian realizes this, as I believe that the slight game changes will not entice people to switch from WOT to Armored Warfare.

    Jingles, congrats on getting permission for this release...very enjoyable and great job on the video. Game looks really cool, have some loves and suggestions if you have a moment.
    LOVES: Targeting aspect, smoke effect, small and light tanks, and reactive armor.
    Suggestions: (since you seem to have the ear of Obsidian)
    1) For the arty issue, make the arch higher and the range shorter so they have to be involved in the battle like Bert, not sitting in the back killing and laughing while you cant get to them.
    2) For the small and light tanks in city battles, make alleys that only these tanks can fit down so they have a way to get around without exposing them to direct heavy and TD fire.
    Lastly what did you think about these tanks ability to shoot on the move?

      I don't think so. I play WoT for many years, never payed for it, and it is still fun as hell (I have 2100 WN8 without soviet OP tanks so I don't count myself as a bad player). (But making premium shells purchaseble for silver partly ruined it - well armored tanks are now good for nothing)
      War Thunder is a completely different game.
      The common things are:
      - you can play with tanks
      - both of them are soviet-biased
      And that's it. End of the list.
      WoT is an arcade tank game, while WT even in arcade mode is much more like a simulator. You simply can't compare them to eachother. If I have to tell another example like this it would be like: WoT is Counter-Strike 1.6, while WT is Urban Terror.
      I won't say WT or WoT is better. While playing WT I felt like more being RNG-d like in WoT.
      However there are more things I don't like in WT than in WoT, like respawn, spawning on rocks, tank handling (going straight and because of a tiny 5 cm rock you jump like 2 m high), reticle, etc.
      In WoT I don't like gold ammo, bad engine performance (no multicore support), too much missions, extremely focusing on gathering new players and persuading people to buy gold, turret bug (turning on the corner), etc.
      WoT has worse graphics, I don't count that as a contra, because it makes it more like arcade.
      However, this game is completely like WoT. If WoT is like CS1.6, WT is Urban Terror, then Armored Warfare is Quake 3... eye candy arcade. I don't like it.

    Why don't they just [edited] off arty entirely? Who wants it in a game about driving AFVs? Especially one with missiles etc?
    I really don't get it.
    Do they think they'll get revenue from clickers tired of WoT?
    The better question is will they get more revenue from them than the avalanche saying "[edited] that stupid overhead BS view, didn't these people learn anything?" and NOT paying.
    Leaving that aside...
    I am one of the few people who thought 6th sense was one of the dumbest ideas WG ever had.
    - Firstly it makes no sense whatsoever (ironic) as how the F do you know someone sitting in a bush 500m away has spotted you.
    - Secondly, it's a bad idea because everyone uses it on 98% of their vehicles. Game designers should know that if there is an option EVERYONE chooses then they haven't designed that aspect well.
    - Lastly? It allows gamey BS like poking around a piece of cover for a second then ducking back and having a lightbulb/jingles pic/pair of jugs flash on screen telling you someone is looking. To me it just dumbs the game right down.
    If they must do it, make it limited to scout class ONLY.
    Seriously, they're getting to the point where the game might as well play itself because any sophistication beyond 'point + click' is fast disappearing. WoT has already gone too far that way with unlimited sprem compared with how it once was IMO.
    Hard to judge anything else other than to say the tracers/whatever made the game look like it was lasers firing everywhere; ugly stuff, really hard to judge fall of shot etc.
    I suspect I'll fall into the category of so disappointed with what happened to WoT from when I first played in Beta that I am burned out on anything remotely close to it.
    Regardless, will look forward to more vids to see what they get up to.

    • @ElvenMans
      @ElvenMans 9 років тому

      The lasers were interesting, yep. I think this is where the RPG side of the game comes in, where you can choose what "perks" you want, but who knows, it's alpha, anything can change.

      ***** Obviously if everyone uses something it's good or they wouldn't use it.
      In game design, however, you always should be looking at the 'opportunity cost' factor so players genuinely agonise over the 'best' choices from a suite of options.
      I could name you a bunch of games that do it extremely well.
      Even IF you could argue about '6th sense' in a modern sense, the option is always available for the 'seeker' to use PASSIVE means precisely to avoid detection.
      That's why, movies notwithstanding, submarines do NOT steam around 'pinging' because the detection range of active sonar is less than the range at which the pinging of it is audible, for example.

    • @wheelolle
      @wheelolle 9 років тому

      Arty is a component of the modern battlefield, that's why AW also have it included. And overhead view makes more sense in AW since could have access to satellites. And if the "clickers" in WoT switched to AW, WoT would lose 80% of it's players.
      - Firstly, sixth sense isn't mental powers, it's your radioman detecting that the tank spotting you is relaying your position to the enemy.
      - Secondly, everyone will get sixth sense in an upcoming patch.
      - Thirdly, since sixth sense is in the game it's a mechanic people will use. And even if you don't have sixth sense, poking is a very good way to get unseen enemies to fire and miss you.
      On a final note, constructive criticism is good - ranting about WoT mechanics in comments to another game is bad.

    • @steeltrap3800
      @steeltrap3800 9 років тому

      wheelolle A substantial number, if not most, potential AW players play WoT. Not speaking about WoT would be daft.
      As to comms? LOL. Tanks have RDF do they? Can break encryption, too? Or do they just 'know' which random radio blarb is pertinent to their vehicle? That scenario is sophistry; you think 6th sense makes sense thus produce an argument to justify it rather than critically assessing the situation.
      The fact everyone will get 6th sense shows how broken it is. That everyone accepts it without question shows how little capacity most players have for analytical thinking IMO.
      Arty is a component of battle, yes. NOT WITHIN 1KM IT ISN'T.
      If you want to use the 'it's part of the battle' as justification, then represent it as is should be: OFF MAP.
      I sincerely hope 80% of clickers go to AW. That will remove them from WoT, and AW will have to do something about battles full of arty, just as WoT did. LOL.

    I wish they had copied War Thunder rather than WoT. Once you have played WoT, there is literally zero reason to play AW. There is nothing special differentiating one tank from another when you have HP bars, and the historical and realistic aspects of armored warfare that make each tank and armored vehicle special don´t reflect in a game that works like that.
    It feels way better to play a Tiger in War Thunder than it does to play one in WoT from a history-reenacting enthusiast. The only reason to pick WoT over War Thunder is if you are looking for simple gameplay (which is not worse than realistic, mind you, just... you know... more simple).
    Of course, Gaijin has to be bothered making the Tiger work as it should... but I hope I made my point well enough.
    I would feel far more excited and immersed playing an Abrams in a War Thunder-like game, than in one WoT-like game.

    Much room for improvement. Alpha like this? Lots of changes coming, but it DOES look like they tried on a WoT format to see how it fit. Hoping they dont settle on it. The RNG in WoT is stupid, as well as reducing the game to total RC arcade cars. Leave a skill element in it, like even in WT arcade. You actually have to point, aim, and shoot, then scoot. WoT leaves you with a built in RNG no matter what you do it how well, designed to keep you at around a 50% WR.

    • @ec1888cfc

    • @shkotayd9749

      Oh they do, phenomenal skill. It is just that so much RNG is built into every shot you fire or take. I did not mean to say all skill is removed, its just the skill you have is damped down a ton by RNG.
      And your word "rare" is apt. Such people are truly rare, especially when at least in the NA servers, the avg WR is 48% across all players. I had to try like bloody hell to keep 53.05.

      Shkotay D "its just the skill you have is damped down a ton by RNG."
      I can count on one hand the number of times RNG has screwed me out of a well aimed shot compared to how many times I've had surprising connections with snap shots, or missed because I aimed / predicted poorly. When I was a new player I used to get pissed at RNG. Outside of playing low tier artillery or running derp guns, I have not really felt RNG screwed me, and in those cases it really shouldn't be a huge shocker. I do wish low tier artillery was a little more forgiving. Part of the skill of the game is getting a feel for what shots you should expect to connect and what shots you shouldn't.
      MM is far more frustrating to me in WOT when it does things like put 3 HT on one team and 1 HT on another or something like that.
      If the skill you have is "damped down" by anything, it's your team getting decimated and leaving you to have to fight 4 tanks at once, which even good players can struggle with depending on the context.

    why the fuck are artillery in this fucking game at all??? THEY AREN'T TANKS. THEY'RE MOBILE GUN PLATFORMS. tanks can fight other tanks and are designed to do so...
    there is NO REASON to have this shit in the game just so useless humans can sit at the back of the map, stealing other people's kills and benefiting from active team-mates teamwork whilst doing ridiculous amounts of damage from the safety of your camping spot. they're not useful as team mates as whenever most arty players have the opportunity to do something useful, they don't.
    people who play these things are one of the big reasons I don't play WoT. the only people who like arty are the people who drive arty. everyone else HATES them. I cannot understand why you'd want to attract people who would play arty to your gam in the first place ffs.
    In any game in WoT where there is no arty, the game was so much better when your not having your game ruined by some fuck camping at the back of the map who is able to negate any strategy you have formulated. If they don't change arty in this, FUCK THIS GAME.

  • @TrangleC
    @TrangleC 9 років тому +1

    The main reason for why I am wary about this game is that modern tanks rely on a lot of different technologies and physical principles for their protection. Old tanks like the ones featured in World Of Tanks and War Thunder just used steel armor and while there are differences in the quality of steel, basically steel is steel and so that is easy to simulate and to calculate for the game.
    It is a totally different story with modern tank armor. You can't just compare how thick the armor is on tank A with the thickness on tank B and then say what it will do when hit by a certain projectile at a certain angle and distance. Modern tank armor is really complicated and in some cases still secret.
    Take the armor on the German Leopard 2 MBTs for example:
    The base armor (not the additional wedge-shaped modular armor on the front of the Leopard 2A5 and subsequent models) is a perforated steel armor with encased ceramic plates. (Bor-Carbide ceramics, as far as I know.)
    Perforated steel armor has channels and holes in it that offer the superheated gas stream from a HEAT shell a path of less resistance away from the crew compartment. It thus deflects parts of the steam and reduces its penetrating power.
    On top of that there are, as mentioned, ceramic plates encased in that perforated steel armor too, like in the British Challenger 2's "Chobham Armor".
    The additional, chisel shaped armor modules the Leopard 2 has since the A5 configuration are there to break a Tungsten or Depleted Uranium penetrator before it reaches the actual hull and can also reduce the effectiveness of a superheated gas stream from a HEAT shell, on top of also working as spaced armor and causing the HEAT shell to explode away from the actual hull armor.
    That is achieved by having several plates of very hard ceramics (probably Bor-Carbide too) at different angles within those otherwise hollow modules. Those ceramic plates are also encased in steel. The magic behind it is that ceramics aren't flexible. They cannot bend, contract, elongate or vibrate like metal. All they can do when being hit with something is to crack and crumble. That means when something penetrates those plates, they crack and cracking means expanding. When a piece of porcelain cracks into many small pieces, they inevitably occupy more space than when the one piece of porcelain still was intact. The cracked, expanding ceramics have to go somewhere, but because they are encased in steel from all sides, the only way they can go, the only space they can expand into, is the hole the penetrator just made. That means the ceramic plate bites into the penetrator like a super hard, super strong bolt cutter and because there are several such plates arranged at different angles in those armor modules, the penetrator gets gripped and bitten at several different angles at once. That breaks it and makes the broken pieces impact the actual armor with way less energy and ideally at harmless angles.
    Of course a hot gas jet from a HEAT round cannot be broken into pieces that way, but still the broken ceramic plates exploding into the jet's path at different angles do a lot to weaken it and reduce its penetrating power greatly before it ever reaches the actual hull of the tank. Also the ceramic dust and shards that get shoved into its path dissipate the gas stream.
    Even without those modules, the Leopard 2's main hull armor is a very intelligent system that relies more on the sensible application of physical principles and on sort of "using the penetrator's energy against it" rather than on simply putting as much hard stuff as possible in the penetrator's way.
    My worry about the game is that they will most likely just make those armor modules simple "spaced armor" and nothing else, thus significantly shortchanging the protection levels on the Leopard 2.
    The problem is that in a game like this, you need to make the tanks different to have it make sense to give the players more than one choice. One tank has to be "the fast but lightly armored one", while one has to be "the slow but tough one" and so on.
    Real modern MBTs are all pretty fast and are all pretty well armored and all have great fire power. So whatever you do to balance them and to make them distinct enough to justify having all of them in the game, it will be unrealistic and unfair to individual tanks and let me tell you, tank fans can get pretty "nerd-rage-y" about this stuff.

    It would be interesting if they changed the artillery to something like Bad Company 1, where it fired a burst of 3-5 shells for saturation bombing on target but each individual shell didn't have that much damage. Unrealistic, yes, but so is having lone SP guns maneuvering in the middle of a battlefield while firing at individual tanks.

    This just doesn't look that great to be honest... yes I know its pre alpha gameplay but where is the spark that makes this different? A game has to be generated around this spark it can't just be added later on. Also one of the most important things about WoT is map awareness, there is no need for that in AW, the game tells you when someone is aiming at you which I think is silly tbh. This game at the moment looks like a complete rip off of WoT... They haven't thought of anything for themselves all they have done is copied WoT and just changed the time period.
    I look forward to where they take this game though... can it take me away from WoT? Not yet, I think they need a massive rethink as to what makes this different to WoT because at the moment it is a carbon copy.

    To everyone claiming you can't say anything negative about this game because "it's in pre alpha!" what do you think the point of a pre alpha test is? It's to get the flaws pointed out so they can fix/change it before release. So instead of trying to silence any negative opinions, how about you take that feedback and improve the game to make it better.

    well jingles you must understand that in the arty shot impact point matters as well, and the fact that a blast could do so much damage, is because shrapnel would actually hit the underside of the tank itself, or the shrapnel would hit a shell trap spot on the tank (such as the bottom of a t-90's turret) and pen through the top of the armor

    One thing that would be good is limit the number of a certain type of tank for each individual map, it would be a much later implementation but it will help tanks that do not perform well in say a city environment like scout tanks to avoid being put in that environment over and over again. An extension of this would be to make it so that you cannot get the same map twice in a row. Both of these ideas need much more maps to be implemented.
    Regarding Jingle's complaint about the lack of content of the patch and the artillery, this is more of a test to verify that the core functions work properly. In programming the idea is to test as often as possible so I foresee that the next test will be similar but with more variety in tank combat and maybe one more map.

    +The Mighty Jingles A few questions about the game:
    1. Did the game feature an autoaim mechanic? It could be helpful for little bugger like the Wiesel to just lock and run around shooting people just to annoy and distract without having to constantly redo the targeting.
    2. Did the maps feel big? They look big on video, but the minimap looks more like the 1000m maps in WoT.
    3. How did it feel driving artillery you gnomish scumbag?
    That is all.
    Over and out.

    The way artillery should work is high accuracy, 3 round clip (like in real life) and an average of 300-400 damage per shot.
    I like that you get a warning when artillery targets you.

  • @r4fken

    I feel like there should be rules to arty. like:
    1: You should never be able to one shot an opposing tank at full HP, if you do hit a tank at full HP then you should deal no more than 2 module/crew damage and 40% hp.
    2: It should be accurate enough to consistently hit or splash stationary targets. Persistent targeting of a single tank should increase shell accuracy (range finding).
    3: You should have a predictable shell travel time or travel time indicator.
    4: lower damage output but increase splash radius. (Missing but still splashing is ok, not satisfying but not rage inducing like missing every shot)
    5: A fully aimed shot should not miss by OVER 9000 miles
    6: Arc should be high enough to fire over terrain but not so high it negates cover (perhaps an adjustable arc that allows some flexibility but trades with shell travel time and aim time.
    7: some kind of barrel view for close defence. (You only get one shot to defend yourself. You should be able to make it count).
    These are just my ideas. Arty can be great for the team and very satisfying to play but only when you know you can perform well in it. At the moment its all about luck.

    Hey Jingles, one of the reasons arty does so much damage to tanks is that it comes from above, where more often than not there is very little armor, even on modern tanks, compared to the front or sides of a tank. The high damage numbers are due to the fact that it pens and causes so much more damage to the crew and equipment inside the tank.

    I like the smoke grenade mechanic though. They should have that as an option in WoT, i.e. as an alternative for the same slots as the repair kit, med pack and fire extinguishers. If you're spotted on the move you could fire the smoke grenade and immediately become unspotted for a short while. When you leave the smoke cloud or the cloud clears the normal spotting mechanic comes into play again.

    Don't know if its been mentioned already. But one thing that appealed to me was the realism of the maps, they're not flat open fields with a few rocks and bushes, or slight undulations in the terrain. I hope that these maps aren't small like WoT and you can get spotted from 3/4 of the map away.

    This is from Aw forum ,it is official
    "Well its now confirmed Arty sucks, thanks for playing!
    Seriously, It was stated very clearly that arty was just a place holder in this build so that we would have all 5 classes in the game, we also used this build for some videos, so the test wasn't the only purpose.
    To give you a heads up here are just some of the artillery changes we will be testing in upcoming builds:
    - Perspective change, different from top down satellite view, similar to a popular mod from another game.
    - HE Explosive changes - Lower alpha damage/ higher splash (Think AOE DPS) this may also increase the accuracy of arty as well.
    - Decreased aim time on targets that have been "Designated" by AFV's
    - Incoming Arty Warning (in test but not optimized to be useful at this point)
    - Counter battery radar, SPG's will see enemy SPG's show up on the mini map to encourage arty vs arty violence.
    -Centered and Enlarged minimap (when you hit CRTL in ARTY MODE) a large mini map will appear letting you easily select a new aim point for your artillery view.
    - various angles for artillery fire (fairly flat currently)
    - and more as needed to make fun/balanced
    Hope this give at least an indication of things we will take a look at in future tests."

    Instead of overhead point and click shenanigans why don't they put a circle on your hud roughly where you're supposed to aim? If someone spots an enemy it'll show up on your HUD showing what angle your gun needs to fire at but you actually have to manually point your gun?
    As an artilleryman and an FO it pains me to see that nobody has gotten artillery right.

    Stryker MGS uses a low pressure version of the L7 105mm, not the same. It has less powder behind the shell, thus less shell velocity, thus less armor pen than the same projectile from a regular L7.

    im looking forward to arty in this game. The warning system is a great add-on to the game as it allows players to get away from an arty shot before getting hit. As stated in jingles in his preview video, arty cannot function without constantly moving to support your teammates. I am also psyched by the light tanks and tank destroyers, especially the M1128.

  • @dappadan22
    @dappadan22 9 років тому

    oh btw jingles i actually noticed at 8 minutes 10 seconds or so you fire 2 artillery shots at that MBT and they didnt hit, thats mainly due to the fact the shots were taken before the aiming reticle had a chance to fully zoom in hence them not being as accurate as they would if you waited a little longer. besides that however you do make some valid points regarding the RnG here.

  • @davidstark2403

    The Artillery should be linked to the Wiesel AWC accuracy wise: laser or wire guidance. As in...when we say you are spotting for Artillery - you actually are and you effectively affect the accuracy of the RT depending on how much you request fire on an enemy vehicle.. In WoT when I spot with a light tank - I expect RT to zero in on my target...but it doesn't seem to happen. In AW...the accuracy of RT should be diminished by lack of fire-request and vice versa..
