just as an example of how good the armour is on the challenger 2 which is just a slightly updated version of the same armour, a few years ago a division of challenger 2s came under fire and a single tank took about 30 direct hits from RPG's and 17 direct hits from antitank rockets upon which it rolled over onto its turret the rest of the tanks sat next to it and focused its light weapon fire (machine guns) onto its arse and kept fire on it to stop insurgents from climbing on top and setting fires to cook the crew, after the tank got recovered into the workshop all that was found to be damaged on it was the sighting units (from when it rolled on top of them) 3 hours in the workshop to replace the sights and it was back in service
+Michael Fisher I want to apologize on behalf of our friend xzavier palomo. It would appear he was struck by shit to the brain as he wrote that comment!
Depleted Uranium is also an extremely effective kinetic penetrator jacket not just because of its density, but because it shears under pressure which helps to maintain the penetrating tip shape of the round, and also because it's pyrophoric, as in it combusts in air. So when your DU-tipped penetrator clears the armor hull, any splinters and debris formed by the abrasive action of shearing through the armor burn inside the vehicle. It's like a giant self-sharpening self-igniting tank harpoon.

This has been a hugely informative and entertaining video, excellent work sir! I would LOVE to see more videos like this covering other tanks. Even though I'm a dyed in the wool American, you may have converted me to a love of British tanks. I understand that videos like this must take a monster effort to produce, but if you can do it, please make MOAR!
Dear MR. Jingles the information you give out i wish i had you as my history teacher in my school day because I would actually learn some thing. Thanks for the awesome effort and the Information you give out. Peace from Croatia!
Your knowledge on tanks is very good, this is the tank iv'e nearly got on Armored Warfare slowly getting there.Your videos are really good and your commentary about the tanks is damn good too.Respect to you my fellow you tuber.
I live just down the road from the former ROF Leeds (or Vickers as everyone called it), literally down a single road, its a car dealership now. You'd occasionally be lucky enough to see a tank sat outside the factory. I never knew about the cosmetic armour on the Challenger 1. Looking forward to you unlocking the Challenger 2, what a beauty.
Mr. Jingles, I would like to say that you do a very good job. I love your historically accurate commentary during games. I just wanted to give you a little tidbit of useless information ( God knows we all love useless information). Americans do not refer to the 'toe plate' of the tank as a lower glacis. We simply call it the glacis. There's the front slope, and then there's the glacis. And the turret monster is very real. As a tanker in the U.S. Army, I heard many stories of drivers heads being removed and limbs amputated by gunners and TC's traversing their turrets while the drivers were getting in and out of their station through the turret. This is why I always climbed in through the drivers hatch from the front slope. I would lay on my back, and fall in head first. If done correctly, no injury follows.
Nice tank, I have to agree about the Chieftain, a friend worked at Chillwell depot, Beeston, Nottingham. which had a full time job repairing them and returning them to unit.
I really enjoyed the added depth of historical information in this episode. I miss the old episodes similar to this. Hope that means we'll be getting more like it again. :)
Nice one Jingles, enjoyed the chally immensely. Currently 45% through the Ariete, you will need to have enough spare rep to unlock the armour pack (+2.8mill cred) but it also is a face forward tank with 5-600dmg per shot, very enjoyable. Thanks for the AW videos, its my game of choice and its great to see vids in a format I enjoy.
Jingles, the big thing about DU isn't just the density, it's the fact that Uranium is pyrophoric meaning that it will burn. And when going through armor, DU will get up to the ignition temperature and start burning. Once it's burning, it doesn't stop, much like white phosphorus and will literally melt the tank where it hit.
You're lucky, Jingles. Not long ago, Challenger 1 apparently had a massive frontal weakspot removed in the most recent major content patch, one bad enough that some players were actually complaining that the frontal armor was all but useless because everyone just aimed at it. So you picked the right time to get it!
Actually, Jingles, The grind from the Chief Mk.5 to the Challenger 1 is the same as any tier 5 to 6 grind. For example, the grind from the Chief to the Challenger is 135,000 reputation. And the grind from the Begleit Panzer 57 (tier 5) to the Stingray is 135,000 reputation. But the grind from the Stingray 1 (tier 6) to the stingray 2 (tier 7) is 270,000 reputation.
Much older video but I saw "Challenger" and clicked. I am a simple man. Talking about the turret monster, that is very much still a thing. A quote from an instructor in the RTR: "This tank will kill you as much as it will kill the enemy". This was in reference to the fact that when you are inside the turret, there are some big no-no's. Additionally to the example that Jingles gave, another danger zone includes the potential to de-glove yourself if you are in the loaders position and plant your hand down on the flat armoured surface immediately to your right. Yes, that surface is the hull of the tank. It's also not impossible to, oh I don't know... get your head wedged between the top of the gun breach and the roof of the turret. Thank god that guy was wearing his helmet... In short: Tanks are health and safety hazard. The only reason no health and safety inspectors have cracked down on this is because we have yet to see an inspector climb inside a tank without getting eaten by turret monsters. Think The Luggage from Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels and you're on the right tracks (pun intended).
Jingles, you seriously need to just do History episodes focusing on wars and battles in modern armored conflict. You discussing the Gulf war was the most interesting thing I've seen in a long time.
I realy hope that this is getting a more regular thing. I loved the history lessons on the WoT tanks. And getting that for the modern stuff would be incredible!
Took one hell of a grind..?! What in heavens name are you sniffen you overgrown salt-Gnome. The chieftan is glory when fully upgraded. The challenger 1 is wonderous and the Chally two at tier 9 is beyond heavenly.
Yes, I am an USA guy. This is a great tank. Not taking on-line gaming into accout, you Brits have produced some really good tanks over the years. I never served in the military but did work on many electronic systems for the M1A1, Sikorsky, Grunin and the space suites for the NASA shuttle missions. Was it a early Challenger that was used by Israel? They put a ball and chain armor to cover the weak spot between the hull and turret. Something so simple and effective. Love your stuff!
I love Armored Warfare for that reason. You don't have to grind for upgrades in a PVP environment. That is one of the biggest issue I have with WOT while grinding your upgrades in PVP you have to play with some serious disadvantages. Trying to get more exp and playing the tank the way you should sometimes is not possible. Most people will call you belittling names because you are a noob but they don't care that you are in a stock tank. Love your videos Jingles even the ones I may not be all that interested in you still do a wonderful job and I wanted you to know you are great at what you do.
Okay, as an M1A1 armor crewman during Operations Desert Shield and Storm, no, we did not have to stop every 90 minutes to bang out the air filters, nor did that take an hour to do. That was, instead, something done at two points during operations: when refueling (as the tank is stationary for this) and at the end of the day's operations (just before the crew beds down for the night). The air filters were designed to be quickly removable, and knocking the excess dust out was the work of a couple minutes. Getting them out and then back in actually took longer, but even an inexperienced crew could do it in about 10 minutes total. Also, this was ONLY necessary in dusty climes, as the Abrams had been designed to fight in Europe... not the desert.
Congrats on getting the Challenger! It't a beast and hands down my favorite vehicle in AW. Don't listen to the haters Jingles, keep the AW content coming!
uh oh, jingles found out the secret to the armour of the challenger, that's it now he's gonna get taken away & never be heard of again. RIP jingles I'll always miss you
Jingles, I've just gotten my Chally 1 fully upgraded, and I absolutely adore it! So far my record for "Damage Mitigated" in a PvE match is right around 18k. This tank is a real boss!
Jingles i dunno if anyone has mentioned this but when engaging BMPT vehicles you will have much better luck hitting the turret than the hull; the hull is always ridiculously tough but the turret is paper thin. I loved the historical commentary.
One of my clan mates used to work for the company that tested Chobham armour. He basically got paid to shoot the armour with many different types of shells, explosives and bullets to see what it did and report it. He's told me some amazing stories about what they used to get up to there.
Jingles, wonderful coverage as always. I was hoping that you and Rita could sign off on my guardianship papers this week. As indicated, I am a 44 year old adult child and I am very dog friendly. Well, at least I got a giggle! Jingles ALL HAIL!
Jingles - Just to let you know "Torsion Bars (TB) ARE NOT connected to their opposite number Rod Wheel station on the other side of the Tank". TBs can only twist in One Direction and need to be anchored IOT provide a rebounding twist. They are housed or retained in a splined recess adjacent to the opposite side roadwheel station which is why TB equipped vehicles have offset roadwheels - 1 side is set further forward from the other.
Congratulations! And as for the M1, military vets agreed that the M1 was completely mismanaged in the gulf war. It was meant for blitzkrieg type warfare, but the US old dog generals dint trust the GPS which was brand new tech at the time, so the M1 battleground had to stop and wait every 100 yards for the radar operators to get new data from the spy planes and verify that they are where they are. So move 100 yards stop, plane flys in a pattern to get a useful read that can be used to triangulate position based on terrain, then move 100 yards and stop again. This was called the "military unintelligence" battle plan. Using a tank capable of doing 60kmh in the desert sand like you'd use a Sherman in a bog. And after all that battle coordination, US military missile struck a ... I believe Canadian or Scottish regiment... Could be British, it's been a while. Yeah, we don't have the Pattons or MacArthurs anymore.
Came back to say that I was heavily inspired by this video in particular to start grinding out this line... happy to say I am the proud owner of both the Chal 1 And a C1 Ariete :D BEAST of a machine!!
@@chaseandrew7896 Edit to my original comment, I'm about halfway through the chall2 !! XD.. chal is a tough tank to grind but oh well.. and yeah this game is so much fun!!
They gave it a great boost to armor and damage dealt in update 0.11 (also finally corrected the 'overmatch' issue which would heavily penalize AP users). I really enjoyed it.

@@Tattletale-Delta you owe me a coffee, which, btw, laughing hot coffee out the nose is not an enjoyable experience
Wow! When you do a tank review on a beloved machine you don't hold back! Absolutely brilliant synopsis on the history and current status, let alone the capabilities and the secrecy about the armour, of this tank. Cheers from Canada!
Jingles i aplreciate your love to the challenger. But from the technical point of view the Leopard 2 did anything better.
+TheNecromancer6666 Yeah, but you're 'Murica, you have much more land's worth of people, materials, and other such resources to work with, we have our little island which, up until WW2 had decided to focus on infantry.
+TheNecromancer6666 Maybe the Chally 1 compared to the Leopard 2, but Chally 2 compared to Leopard 2? More of an even match.
+Cameron McAllister wait I thought the Leopard 2 is a German tank
TheTrueDankMemes Fixed it, thought it was 'Murican, but still.
+Matt Green Depends on the Leopard Version. The A5 and A6 Leopard 2s are faster, have more firepower and are better protected then the challenger.
More of this kind of video! this was worthy of the history/Discovery channel *if they actually showed some actual documentary's that is*
Big fan jingles! keep up the great work!
Shout out to my NATO brothers for making this beast.
From a former M1A1 tank crewman.
Both are good tanks
I absolutely love the information you provided here! I've listened for fun, and educational value. Very impressive Mr. Jingles!
I'm starting to think the chally 1 is underrated and the M1 Abrams is overrated 😱
Wacky Tic Tac just check the kill lists it's clear what tank is best
Ian King. Can you show me the kill lists :D
As a languages student, allow me to tell you that your videos are not only funny, but they also improve my english level. Having said that I must add that the other day I had an awkward moment during an oral exam, when I said 'it makes me happy' and then involuntarily added 'in my pants'. Thank you, Jingles!
did you say 3rd world war?? there was no world war 3
+USRANGER You noticed that, did you?
+USRANGER That's what the lizardmen want you to think.
+USRANGER We'll have to let you off easy this time, maybe stick to less educational videos without hypothetical talk eh?
+USRANGER "In the event of world war 3 in Europe." Take a while to think that phrase over.
+The Mighty Jingles thats just call counting the unknown into it :) .... Dino vs ********* was kinda WW ... jingles most be remenberning that from his ages =P !
Another great video Jingles. It made me happy and sad.Happy to see a great tank getting the respect it deserves even if only in a game , and also bringing back happy memories of working on the vehicle.Sad because I will never have the joy of flying about in one of these magnificent beasts or it's even more potent descendant again.Keep up the good work fella.Quis Separabit.

Brilliant video Jingles. The best so far. I'm about to watch it again.
Challenger is super ugly.
+Akuu DE That's just your opinion.
Your obviously wrong opinion...
Don't hurt its feelings......you wouldn't like it when it's angry
Obvious troll is Obvious
whe respect your opinion... and now shut upp and go to the salt mine.
Well Jingles, I can honestly say this. Your videos conviced me to try this game and WoT on my new laptop...And I am happy I did.
Jingles, your interrupting Rita's live stream was not funny at all.
An almost constant interruption is even less funny BTW
I saw the whole thing last night
+Silas Kuemmerle You seem but hurt
+TRUGAMER45 He's been working in the salt mines soo he is Salty =)
+Silas Kuemmerle Aren't you a special snowflake
This has been a hugely informative and entertaining video, excellent work sir! I would LOVE to see more videos like this covering other tanks. Even though I'm a dyed in the wool American, you may have converted me to a love of British tanks. I understand that videos like this must take a monster effort to produce, but if you can do it, please make MOAR!
One of the best videos you have done in ages. More please.
Good Job on this video Jingles. Great work on all the tech talk about this tank. Enjoyed all the detail.
Dear MR. Jingles the information you give out i wish i had you as my history teacher in my school day because I would actually learn some thing. Thanks for the awesome effort and the Information you give out. Peace from Croatia!
Loved hearing the history of the tank. Anytime you want to talk about modern tanks all you hear about is Abrams. Very refreshing
Being eaten by the turret monster, do love that British humor.
Brilliant video as usual Jingles! Thoroughly enjoyed the info bites on the procreation of Challenger keep up the good work brother. Cheers.
I love how you're videos are entertaining and educational. You sure can tell a story well.
You learn something every day. Hiding the real armor on this thing is pure genius!
Your knowledge on tanks is very good, this is the tank iv'e nearly got on Armored Warfare slowly getting there.Your videos are really good and your commentary about the tanks is damn good too.Respect to you my fellow you tuber.
this was a great history lesson. thanks jingles. if only high school was this interesting.
If done correctly, no injury follows.
this was the video that got me playing AW. this tank is a beast. I am nearly out of it now and looking forward to tier 8 and 9. Thanks Jingles
Nice tank, I have to agree about the Chieftain, a friend worked at Chillwell depot, Beeston, Nottingham. which had a full time job repairing them and returning them to unit.
another great video jingles, i never get tired of listening
I really enjoyed the added depth of historical information in this episode. I miss the old episodes similar to this. Hope that means we'll be getting more like it again. :)
Top Notch quality commenting by the Mighty Jingles!
Loved the part where u claimed a double kill ramming and gunning to your right side.
My Dad used to drive the Challenger 1, I have been inside the Challenger 2 and they are such a beautiful looking machine.
Excellent video, Mr. Jingles. I just bought mine yesterday as well and it's a lovely machine!
So you picked the right time to get it!
really interesting video jingles! loved hearing about the history of the Challenger
Thanks Mr Jingles. Another superb video. You deserve all of your success.
Jingles- "Makes me very happy in my pants"- 2015
I have my friend nick over and we laughed so hard when this line was said. Thank you Jingles.
Every hour checking for a new video from Jingles
I Thought Jingles was in love, I was right but his love interest is a tank and not his lovely room mate! Jingles is having a 'fling'!
Jingles, you seriously need to just do History episodes focusing on wars and battles in modern armored conflict. You discussing the Gulf war was the most interesting thing I've seen in a long time.
OH BOY! a 40 min vid from jingles *phones take-away shop* :) Im now sat eating my tea as always watching Jingles :D
I realy hope that this is getting a more regular thing. I loved the history lessons on the WoT tanks. And getting that for the modern stuff would be incredible!
Great video jingles! You have done what I suggested in the last Armoured Warfare video.
LOL Jingles is gushing, dude is so in love with Challenger
Took one hell of a grind..?! What in heavens name are you sniffen you overgrown salt-Gnome. The chieftan is glory when fully upgraded. The challenger 1 is wonderous and the Chally two at tier 9 is beyond heavenly.
this was a really good video jingles, really put in the effort and it showed. well done sir
Hope you get your Challenger 2 as soon as possible Jingles, looking forward to hear the background story of that tank in real life!
Jingles - you seriously need to host a TV show. You're never boring to listen to, even if I'm not particularly interested in the subject matter.
Awesome video man its crazy how the new way of thinking/designing a tanks survival from how it was in WW2
uh oh, jingles found out the secret to the armour of the challenger, that's it now he's gonna get taken away & never be heard of again.
I came back and I miss this game so much.
