I feel that deeply. Even if I can't be his chosen champion I'm still really disappointed that FromSoftware JUST made him a boss instead of a character we could make choices about or interact with AT ALL in a way that wasn't just violence.
that's not Miquella anymore, he abandoned his flesh and humanity to become a God, just like his mother before him (you can find her body in the Shaman village, along with strands of hair)
@imannam I mean, it's still Miquella, he's just divested himself of a lot of things. I think there's an interesting moral idea here in that it's possible that while becoming a god might be bad for him, it could be good for the world, and regardless, I think that's something that he expected, and is sacrificing himself so that things can be better for other people. Maybe in making himself a god, he unexpectedly loses what would make him do good things for others, and so becoming a god wouldn't let him achieve his goal (perhaps this is the motivation for having Radahn as champion, since he'd be a morally good person anyway, so Miquella expected Radahn to be able to help guide the new order positively). Even considering all these things, and how I think that Miquella's motivations are well-thought-out and well-written, I am disappointed as a _player_ that our character is given so little chance to interact with Miquella directly, and it's pretty much only as a boss fight. Before the release of the DLC, I was hoping that we would have a bit of time where he would be more like Ranni, and we could just talk to him, even if he was also a potential boss. Hell, I think I agree most with him not becoming a god, for his own sake, I just wish I was able to be more involved with the plot. I think the Tarnished not being Miquella's consort makes sense and is perfectly good from a lore perspective, but not being that unfortunately distanced us from Miquella's story a lot, and FromSoftware didn't do something like make Miquella's followers more involved, which could've helped immerse us in the story more without having to change the backstory of Miquella's choices or make it too similar to Ranni's quest.
@@mastermarkus5307fromsoft didn't gave us a choice to ponder about to agree with miquella. that's what saddened me. like, tarnished do have the choice to join or not that other blue witch... sigh*. I wondered if we could restore miquella with the pieces he left behind, as those are what made him be. some kind of quest... but it's a no, then nothing 😿 ... thought he would be a parallel about the dark moon ending free of control, but a golden sun instead, or something, yet mind charmed and manipulated, probably.
It's a game mechanic that the player cannot die and keep getting brought back, yes, but there's a lore reason as well. Marika is the one reviving us. We are, essentially, the Blade of Marika. The player is her champion. We cannot escape that. To break away from that would mean we weren't immortal anymore. Which would in turn make the game very difficult to play. Haha. So it follows that while we have some autonomy... nothing we can do is against Marika's will. Marika has written off all of her children and sanctions their destruction. Leda knew exactly what we were by the end. Marika's sword. Come to collect Miquella's head and prevent the rise of a new god.
You'd say she's written them all off, then you realize there's a Ranni route, who ends up kinda ascending to godhood in her end. So Marika seems to be okay with the rise of a new god among her children, as long as it's Ranni
@@user-um2us2zv4j I'm not 100% certain. The only two endings that receive a special cutscene are Frenzied Flame or Age of Stars. Why is that? They can't both be canon. I think because both are lead-ins to a potential sequel. The others are relatively peaceful and conflicts are resolved (for one reason or another). Frenzied Flame sets the player up as a new villain... while Age of Stars is more complicated. It sets up a world that will be grievously changed. In some ways for the worse. Ranni isn't a selfless person. In fact she's confirmed by Miyazaki to be quite evil. She's running away from the problems of the Lands Between instead of actually solving any of them. Who or what will fill the power vacuum left behind by the now absent gods? It'd be an interesting sequel we'll likely never get.
No we are not....we are just one of the many tarnished... If only we were revivable, we wouldn't be fighting invasions AND the actual NPCs later. I remember killing Anastasia in my gelmir yet I had to kill her again in consecrated snowfields...
@@Solus5048 Oh we're not special. At least not in the 'Chosen One' kind of way. We're just the last Tarnished standing. Marika initially has an entire army of Tarnished, and she extends Grace to us all. However they slowly get weeded out as they give up on the quest or actively betray our purpose. That's why Tarnished lose the ability to see Grace. Rogier admits to seeing Grace at first, but loses Grace because he gives up on the Elden Ring and takes up the cause of the Duskborn. Boggart saw it too, but loses it because he just chills and eats crab. Bernahl saw Grace and gets extremely far, but turns against the Erdtree because he felt the sacrifice of his maiden was wrong. He must have loved her a great deal. We only ever encounter Anastasia as a phantom and killing phantoms is not the same as killing a persons actual body. It's a co-op/pvp game mechanic, yes, but it's also acknowledged in-universe that the spirit can take fleeting from and go where the physical body cannot. The NPC Vyke's actual body is imprisoned, but he still invades the player. Millicent invades the player despite the real her dying of Scarlet Rot unable to move much. The DLC in particular plays with this concept of spiritform in the case of Igon. His actual body is broken. He cannot even stand. Yet his spirit summoned for the Bayle boss fight allows him to fight in the prime of his strength. His *true* self. Unhurt. Strong. Whole. That form is fleeting though. It doesn't last long... and after the battle is over, the phantom Igon dissipates. The true Igon lays dead elsewhere.

@@Elden_Beastie Mohg is not Innocent. He's still a cult leader that was willing to rain blood to the world. What Miquella did to him was an act of mercy.
Important note: Miquella's god form has four arms, just like the doll that Ranni inhabits. That doll is modeled on the snow witch that taught Ranni magic and was her secret mentor. I can't help but wonder if that was actually Miquella in disguise, and that he charmed her into plotting the assassination of Godwyn. It may well explain why Ranni had to abandon her body: So long as she inhabited flesh, Miquella had control over her.

Arguable. Most of what miquella does or how he knows or came to create certain things are never explained or explored. Most of what makes miquella is completely a mystery. Characters like radahn, ranni, godwyn, morgott are more fleshed out than him. Arguably malenia and rykard are too.

Radahn didnt conquer the stars to halt the progression of the eclipse, he stopped it to stop ranni from becoming a god; he probably knew who was responsible in godwyn's death, and if ranni continued who's to say that she wouldn't have managed on her own even without a tarnished, she was an empyrean after all. That would ruin his and miquella's plans in the process. Malenia was aware of all of this. But then why did radahn resist the rot? Why didnt he let himself get killed on purpose? And why even attempt to eclipse the sun, when it would've failed anyways? *Why* did miquella give melina torrent, why entrust a spirit calling bell to ranni, his competitor, to give to the tarnished who would become lord? Did Miquella *really* want to divest himself of everything, to become a god? Or was he ordered to, or compelled to, by someone or something? The flashback we got at the end of the fight showed us a meek miquella, wanted *needed* radahn as his king-consort as an exchange for keeping up a vow. To become a god. Maybe its just me coping but honestly i still think miquella is a victim in all of this. The math just does not add up to him being "evil", atmost he justify's his methods with his goals but i would call that moraly grey at worst. He's beautiful
I don't want to kill Miquella, I want to let him ascend to Godhood and be his chosen champion 😤
I feel that deeply. Even if I can't be his chosen champion I'm still really disappointed that FromSoftware JUST made him a boss instead of a character we could make choices about or interact with AT ALL in a way that wasn't just violence.
Just get grabbed twice then
that's not Miquella anymore, he abandoned his flesh and humanity to become a God, just like his mother before him
(you can find her body in the Shaman village, along with strands of hair)
@imannam
I mean, it's still Miquella, he's just divested himself of a lot of things.
@@mastermarkus5307fromsoft didn't gave us a choice to ponder about to agree with miquella. that's what saddened me. like, tarnished do have the choice to join or not that other blue witch... sigh*.
I wondered if we could restore miquella with the pieces he left behind, as those are what made him be. some kind of quest... but it's a no, then nothing 😿
... thought he would be a parallel about the dark moon ending free of control, but a golden sun instead, or something, yet mind charmed and manipulated, probably.
Pure and radiant, he wields love to shrive clean the hearts of men…
There is nothing more terrifying.
I'm tarnished, blade of Marika. And i like to get spanked by everyone.

I think miquella, is now like top 5 well written demigods in elden ring in my understanding.
Arguable. Most of what miquella does or how he knows or came to create certain things are never explained or explored. Most of what makes miquella is completely a mystery. Characters like radahn, ranni, godwyn, morgott are more fleshed out than him. Arguably malenia and rykard are too.

"pure and radiant,he wields love to shrive clean the hearts of men" indeed.Everyone was rooting for him to fix these broken realms only for him to end up as a tyrant just like his mother.Only unlike his mother, his power of persuasion and compelling affection from others is immeasurable.
A malevolent god presenting himself in pure radiance is still evil.
Very lucifer like
Miquella literally tried to make an "Age of peace". The way he went about it was bad, but doing it in a "good" way really isn't possible in such world. He's a grey character, to paint him as pure evil is just wrong
@@vex080 how do you think he will make an "Age of Peace"? The Lands Between are Darwinian by design. He will need to steal all the hearts (autonomy) of tge denizens to enforce peace, or he will need to wipe it all clean and start anew. Very evil indeed.
@@vex080 He literally manipulated a demigod to kidnap him and defile his body, meanwhile in his machinations the dead body of said demigod was used to revive the soul of his "consort" but sure that somehow isnt evil.
We dont know even know if Radahn consented to being his consort or Miquella used his powers to manipulate him aswell.
I feel like there's less of a venn diagram and more of a flat circle between the Miquella and Makima haters.
Miquella The Compella 💯😤
It isn't as if other godlike beings don't do the same trying to win our favor by promising us a seat next to the new god.
