Presonus sounds like there is a high pass filter in the mix of the song. The lows remarkably dicreases when it starts. However Mackie is like there is an unnatural bass / low mid boost in it. Both of them fail in comparasion with regular (not so cheap) headphones. I believe the manual bass adjustment of Presonus Eris can do the job. My vote is for Presonus.
Agree. It seems that Eris produces the frequencies more faithfully. And in case you need a bit of thump, the adjustment knob can work wonders (I use a pair for spotify listening and even have to cut down a bit of bass). Else, an external sub can be added.
Mackie sounds fuller probably because of the low mid bump, but the the Presonus are kinda “thin” because they have a high mid bump and a little amount of bass. In all honesty, I kinda prefer the Mackies because of the fullness. Both aren’t bad, i would take the Presonus for the clarity, but the Mackies have a nice thump to them.
Presonus definitely have cleaner vocals and the bottom end sounds a little more organised so far...the middle on the Mackies sound a little too distant..
3x is quite an improvement on the 3. The presonus is a good speaker - but it is quite bright so you wont be able to work on it for a long time without getting fatigue
@@gorboge567 Both are decent pair of monitors, I guess, so you're probably right. I heard about some problems with CRX series though as they apparently generate some acoustic noise on standby, which can be really annoying...
I feel like these both sound REALLY similar, its hard to figure out which is better imo, maybe the mackie? they feel a bit more upfront and close if that makes any sense
@@ArthurSouza-yd3dj you cant find the same speakers on this planet. look at the frequency characteristics.sometimes the difference is very large the key is to find monitors that sound good enough and learn how to produce music on them
So basically the 'X' revision on Mackie added more separation that is still more pleasant to listen than PreSonus E3.5? But then how do they stack up against Edifier R1700BT in your opinion for a more casual approach (non-music production-wise)? The rise of the price difference is actually much bigger than I thought it will be, that's why I'm asking to what usually recommend. Also, u rock with adding the graphs over the years, it does help in trying to figure everything that capturing process and YT compression does to experience.
I have never owned a studio monitor, so I believe I have no bias. On the other hand, I was recommended the Presonus by my nephew who has more experience in owning and using studio monitors. But listing to the comparison, I must say I do prefer the Mackie. I tend to opine the Mackie sound seems closer to the Source Track than the Presonus, and the Presonus tends towards a thinner side. But who am I to say which is better? It's just an opinion in the end and one man's food is another's poison. 😁
Hi, thank you for the video. The PreSonus pleases my ears more than what the Mackie does, but I guess that the bass is richer in Mackie and in Amazon India, The PreSonus 3.5 costs 12,000 Indian Rupees ($165), while the Mackie CR3-X costs 9000 Indian Rupees ($125). Will it still be worth it to buy PreSonus?
Hi Agniva. What I have noticed is that Presonus speakers present a more neutral overall sound while the Mackie ones have extra bass added to them due to the reduced mid frequencies. For reference purposes I would go for the Presonus ones but for overall listening obviously the Mackie sounds better. I have the eris 4.5 and believe me i cannot listen to music in any other speaker.
@@gpstylesldh Thanks Gagan, as per my budget, I would want to go for the Mackies I guess. Just to let you know, I would produce/compose music via these monitors.

I got some of these and the tweeter just has way too much self-generated noise. Produces it at the lowest volume and even without an input so it's not EM interference or feedback. Even tried them on an isolated power source again with no source. All the reviews say it, even the 5-star but it's too much in person. Especially if you leave them on to use beyond music/gaming (i.e. for the OS notifications). The speakers sound awesome otherwise. Called Mackie hoping they'd fix/replace and they were so dismissive it wasn't even funny. They said "I must be using them wrong or too loud" even though I told them volume was at lowest and no source and they still produce the hiss. I pointed out reviews and they said those customers were also wrong and or reviewing another product. Never had a company be so dismissive of such a widespread problem. Sent them back to B&H for a refund. Got some other speakers and no such issue. Funny thing was the review I based my purchase on was one where a guy said he had been looking for speakers that didn't hiss and finally found them in the Eris. The Mackie sound marginally better in real world usage, but it's marginal at best and I'd rather that than a constant hiss that will eventually drive me nuts.
