Both products are classified as Media Reference Monitors. The PreSonus Eris E4.5 sound more natural and flatter which makes them more versatile. The Mackie CR5-X sound a bit boomy.
But the presonus is missing some lower end. Yes i know its tunable but still. I would go with a speaker which has already been sorta bass boosted eq wize. I like the bass. With a dac of course
I have a older generation of the Mackie CR4. Listening to this comparison on these speakers is interesting. The Mackie's in the video accentuate much of what I dislike about these speakers (sub par port tuning) but the PreSounus sound much tighter and cleaner meaning they are probably a big improvement on these. Mackie uses aggressive porting and in the wrong space, wrong content or wrong volume, the port tuning frequency becomes obnoxiously resonant. Also 1khz - 5khz is represented better on the eris which is another weak point for my mackie CR4s. Of course, none of this is practical information but it is interesting (to me at least)
I agree with everyone else the PreSonus had a flat inhibited pitch. But the Mackie' low end was picked up on instantly . More fuller sound. But I am listening through the Mackie CR8-XBT monitors!
W/ the mackie's They're still going strong. I use them everyday matter of fact. I even got the CR8S-XBT 8" subwoofer as well. Works pretty well for the cost.
Depends on what kinds of audio will you use it for. If you like bass heavy music and love the CR5s' boomy bass, then get those. But if you want a more balanced sound for maybe classical music and more controlled bass, then E4.5 it is
Everyone is saying that the presonus has constant humming, hissing and noise... is this true in your experience?

Actually, everyone is saying Mackie has that sound, especially the new versions. In fact there are many reviews out there which records live and shows us that hissing sound, check them out. That's the only reason why I consider E4.5 instead, originally I was planning to buy a Mackie CR4-X.

Apparently many active studio monitors have this white-noise aka hiss sound, I just red some stuff about Mackie and Presonus, even some KRK's and Adam Audio ones which are much high-end products and all have this issue according to the users. Also many people are suggesting this kind of solution here ua-cam.com/video/m4b9BvShaPE/v-deo.html , which is basically some simple electrical issue...And does not effect everyone because it depends on where you live and what kind of electric plug u use basically. For example in the middle east we don't have that kind of stuff.
I have a pair of Mackies with a sub and I also sufferend from hiss, but I solved it with replacing the factory RCA cables with balanced TRS jack calbes. Now there is no hiss and they sound amazing. Recommended.
My Presonus Eris 5BT hiss noticeably at a distance of 1 meter even then they are unplugged from any input source. I can afford this because I turn them on only when I use them, but I'd worry about this if they are on all the day long.
Is it possible a review or comparision with Sonos five or an stereo pair of Sonos One’s instead ? This channel is wonderful and dangerous for my wallet 😀😎
Which one do you think would be more suited for music listening, not necessary production work? The Mackie CR5-XBT or the Presonus Eris 4.5BT (I know the comparison is on the non bluetooth models but I expect them to sound similar, right?)? Which one would be more pleasing to the ear especially on the long run?
CR5X sounds a bit better, but has a big issue with white noise. So my answer is: if for nearfield than go for E4.5, if for midfield than CR5X should be better choice.
Hi! Where is that CR5X vs Eris e5 XT video that you mentioned? Need your help to decide which set to go for, they are both in stock at the moment, doesn't happen often considering Covid disrupted supply chain so badly...
@ Digital Stereophony - hello, thanks for your helpfull reviews. Didn't you have any .. white noise (faint but audible ) with the Presonus ? I just bought a pair of E4.5 and as soons as I turn the power On : "fffssssshh" :/ I have read some neg reviews pointing that out ... quite annoying for "near monitors" ...

Hi, my comment just under this one might help you at this point.
I bought my Eris after ear this comparison, that's what a I needed to make choice. I'm really like the neutral sound, I think for listening rock/blues this kind of music is perfect, the bass is very present for the size. Before I have 2 pars of edifier (1855 and 2750) they are good, but have a little more "boomish" for my taste. To me , the bass of Eris sound more "controlled" tight . Anyway, thanks for this comparison, really helpful. 🤜🤛
@Digital Stereophony Yo i bought the Edifier r1700bt but it seems there is smt wrong, bcus only the tweeter from my left speaker is working.. so i guess its kinda defect? or is it working as intended? thanks i already checked cables btw and reinstalled audio driver, also switched RCA cables and nothing changed :/
don't buy mackie , bass heavy, muddy. Your ears get tired very quick. I have to turn volume down all the time. Big regret here. using FIIO DAC 32 bit /192 (knowingli crisp and sharp, yet with this speaker sound is muddy) mid is missing and low is muddy high is weak

My choise is Mackie because of deeper bass, good for multimedia use. PreSonus has more flat and balanced sound.
1 vote PreSonus Eris E4.5 Low - Mid - Hi sound is balanced and detailed, Mackie CR5-X (Low +).
Both products are classified as Media Reference Monitors. The PreSonus Eris E4.5 sound more natural and flatter which makes them more versatile. The Mackie CR5-X sound a bit boomy.
The PreSonus are much more clear and natural... The MacKie seems to be heard trough a medium box with a narrow sound !
But the presonus is missing some lower end. Yes i know its tunable but still. I would go with a speaker which has already been sorta bass boosted eq wize. I like the bass. With a dac of course

Bro how was your experience with mackie?
Speakers are still working?
W/ the mackie's They're still going strong. I use them everyday matter of fact. I even got the CR8S-XBT 8" subwoofer as well. Works pretty well for the cost.
How reliable are the Mackie CR-X series? I have been reading a number of bad reviews on their longevity.
It would be great to see Mackie 624 tests
Which one should I go for ?

Only for music production: Presonus
Movie, music, gaming on top of music production: Mackie

Can you compare the new Avantone Cla-10 Active speaker with Yamaha hs5? please!
Thanks for the good work. It would be interesting to hear how the Samson MediaOne M30 and M50 compare to the corresponding Eris and Mackies-X.
Would Eris 4.5 be a good karaoke speaker? or there are other recommendation?
Hope to hear soon the track "Champagne Ocean" as bass test track.. 😊 and btw Edifier R1280Dbs is now out. Any plans to compare it with the older ones?
As soon as I get R1280DBs in my hands I will do some comparisons
@@DSAUDIOreview That would be great! Thanks and stay safe. ☺

@@DSAUDIOreview but I see a lot of people complaining about the hiss in Presonus also. Did you experience that?
@@DSAUDIOreview Thank you!
@@DSAUDIOreview I got rid of white noise with balanced TRS cables. Factory RCAs are just crap.
for this comparison the bass and treble control is at 0db of the presonus? excellent job
All controls set to neutral

Presonus e4.5 or microlab solo 6c?
Solo for music listening, E4.5 for production
@Digital Stereophony Which one do you recomend?
If it was my money than I would buy E4.5 or save up for E5
@@DSAUDIOreview But what about the E4.5 vs The CR4-X?
Mackie CR5-x

If only one tweeter is working than they are defect. Return them
presonus low more 80db is save your ear
Go with Kali Audio In6 or Iloud Mtm..
Mackie cr5 better deep bass
