Thank you so much for talking about Jim Hall. He, and his Chaparral, is responsible for drawing me, as a 12 year old, into a life long love of auto racing. It's unfortunate he isn't mentioned much considering his engineering impact on the sport.
The format of these videos never gets old for me. I really love the historical context provided at the beginning of the videos, it really places the content historically for the viewer. The fact that it is all delivered through a modded version of a game itself that is becoming vintage adds some interest too as I'm sure many viewers will think to try to recreate the race for themselves at home. Something else about GPL (and the amazing mods) feel 'old' thus adding a bit of additional nostalgia. Then the POV race which is somehow a super relaxing view with your commentary. UA-cam historic simracing gold.
What a great race to watch and well done Richie. Seeing GPL here again is almost enough to make me want to set it up again but at 85 I think those days really are behind me. I watched your installation video just this afternoon and it's excellent but by the end it just reminded me how many pitfalls there are to getting a working installation. I guess I'll just live it vicariously through Mr Axelson.
Age is just a number, don't let it discourage you. In Poland, country I am from, famous world class racing driver, Sobiesław Zasada, started in Safari Rally Kenya 2021 being 91 years old!
I was at this race as I have told you before. I still remember it! One of the best days of my childhood! I also had the Cox Chapparal 2E slot car and the wing worked! 1/24 scale.
Nice to witness Masten Gregory as being part of the grid. As an European I just recently got real familiar with his name and palmares as a racing driver. Added him just last saturday to setup a round-the-world classic/vintage AC Championship consisting of huge grid historic tracks, with Masten himself behind his favourite wheel. Against both these Can-Am beauties and drivers as well as a huge variety of TC Legends, SCAA's, etc. and tried to let CrewChief learn each and single driver's name. Just so stimulating. But still stimulating on a higher level, just hearing Jake's historic guiding voice. Bless you.
I love these richie axelson videos and seasons. Recently rewatched your old 1955 and 1965 gpl season. They are so fun to watch. But to be honest all your content is great.
Great video! Brings back memories of my Skip Barber racing school in 1993 at Bridgehampton. What a fun track it was, especially diving down into turn 1 and 2 and seeing how much throttle you were brave enough to hold. The track was sold and turned into a golf course development in the mid to late 90’s and the remaining strip of it is now only accessible via private invite. The bridge is still in place. Good driving Richie!
UA-camr TFMan54 has a couple of videos at Bridgehampton hidden among other racing videos and railway things. Having watched his stuff a lot, I've grown quite the appreciation for the Bridge, so it makes me happy to see it feature in your 1966 series.
Looking forward to the return of Richie's Formula 1 season soon! Hopefully not too far way... In a parallel universe somewhere, his currently infant son is doing quite well in Indy Cars! 😊
I have a lot of friends that raced here with AAMRR. After asking them which out of the various tracks they raced at in those days was their favorite they all said "The Bridge."
As always, absolutely stunning to watch! One of my favourite era's, Can/Am was always wild to watch, and this catches that feeling perfectly 🏁👏👏👏 really looking forward to the next one 👍🏁🍾
The front straight and first couple of corners still exist. The rest was converted into a golf course. They actually serve as the entry road into the golf course.
First impressions of this track... Feels like an American Spielberg, Austria. I didn't feel that until I imagined modern F1 on this track. Just flat out into high speed corners, up and down elevations.
Miss that track. Golf course now, But part of the track remains - could it return ? Was basically closed due to noise. In addition locals didn't like it. Great views as shown here.
I have a NASCAR race coming up at Bridgehampton, so thankyou for 21 laps of tuturial. I never realised it was on Long Island, though. Is Bridgehampton one of "the" Hamptons, then?
1998 until now. How long are GPL's legs? I raced so many times on GPL, good race and then just one tic of missed concentration and 20 or 30 laps for nothing. I still think GPL is the purest sim out there.
Any chance of this series being completed? I didn't realize it's been over a year until I searched for any new videos on the '66 season that I might've missed and saw this was in fact the last one.
Hi GPL! We need updated version of tutorial on how to install Grand Prix Legends in 2024 because it seems to be problematic on Widows 11 and newest graphics cards. Game is unfortunatelly not working for me and many other users. Very fun video as always btw :)
Gurney won this race in real life....I personally think his Lola was the best liveried, and had a long wait for a spark model if the exact car. Of course in reality the Chevy engined Lola T70s seemed to see more success than the Ford powered ones. But Gurney knew how to paint a car to look cool 😎
Chapparals were lauded as innovative, but most models never won a race or even finished. Jim Hall didn't see real success until much later at Indy. Strange how the GPL track looks nothing like the Assetto Corsa mod.

The continuing adventures of Richie Axelson continue!! Great driving there.
We need this series back 😢
amen!

The graphics of this game that came out in 1998 is amazing...they were ahead of their time.

Awesome series! happy to watch more of Mr. Axelson

Its been a while. Great to see Richie back
great to see this 66 series back!
great to see old Richie back on track again.
This was an amazing race to watch. It was a great battle on all fronts; man vs. man, man vs. machine, and man vs. himself. This one had everything!

freaking golf.
HE IS FINALLY BACK!!

Thoroughly enjoyable race again so close, next time hopefully.
What a cool old series! The Big Bangers.🏁
Great series Jake! Love the race everything and everyone content

Nice to see Richie back again. My GPL has stopped working, I will have to sort it.
the old king still kicking some asses
Woohoo!! Good to see ol Richie back at it!!! Great vid dude!!
The front straight and first couple of corners still exist. The rest was converted into a golf course. They actually serve as the entry road into the golf course.
Been missing Richie.
Great racing Jake really enjoyed this one.
Thank you Jake. Your videos are actually educational. I now know how "Lowenbrau" is actually pronounced! 🙃
I appreciate GPL saying "On" Long Island.
First impressions of this track...

The crowd is looking a bit thin. (If you know what I mean)
For a 26 years old game the graphics is impressive the flat plank crowd 😂
thanks
In the uk we pronounce Lowenbrau as low-n-brow with brow sounding like eye brow. It's a make of lager but i'm sure you knew that.
yeeah, been waiting for this!! :)
Nice

Is it the final video of 66 season? 😢
Sure hope not, it shouldn't be.
30.05 "I haven't seen any yellow flags...." 😢
Can-Am!? PLEASE tell me there is a Speedway Park map (Edmonton AB) and you'll be running the Klondike 200....
First to the feast 😊 .
