How much batch variation do these have? Just tried batch 6 and liked it quite a lot actually... then saw your review here and now I'm thinking huh...🤔 any thoughts and any recommendation for best batch so far?
Another one I'm catching up with. For the first quarter of the bottle again I would say you where spot on, no amount of water tames this dram. But now I'm halfway down its really opened up. Still youthful but some incredible flavours to get out of this one. Would probably give this an 88. Cheers Geoff 👍
U r becom8ng a fav reviewer for me as out palates seem in sync and Really appreciate ur measured honesty and explicit discussion about hype! How about a video on ur background and what ur doing in Taiwan? I lstudied Chinese in Taipei in 1994 during my former life on the academic path.
Thanks, I'm glad you like the channel! I try to be as straightforward as possible here. I'm not sure people would be too interested in a video all about me, so I'll probably keep the discussions centered around whisky. I came here for work over 10 years ago. And even just in that time Taiwan has changed pretty substantially. I can't imagine what it must have been like back in '94!
batch 6 was better than 5 (my first one)... (86.66 maybe for me?) got batch #7 today (90% bourbon/10% sherry)... water and time in the glass /airtime in the bottle helps obviously... will be interesting to compare to batch #6 (75 bourbon/25 sherry) ...will report back around xmas time after a few drams around the chimney
WoW. Batch 6 was my 1st one and i absolutely love it. Im probably slowly became a fan of sherried whisky after this Kilkerran. As a bourbon barrel fan im happy to grabbed Batch 7. 😁🥃🙋🏻♂️
Hi Geoff. Just seen this available where I am in Italy and not sure whether to pull the trigger. I trust your reviews and this one seems to be a split. Along with yours I've seen bad reviews although the whisky friend gave this 92 and malt review 8/10 which is a super high score. Definitely torn on this one! Cheers
Hey Ramiz. I think if you're generally a fan of cask strength punchy peat, this should work for you. I prefer a more refined whisky, but this stuff is decent if you like them young and loud!
I just listened to The Whisky Vault's review of 60.9 is Batch Two Kilkerran Heavily Peated, which was not a very good batch IMO, when compared with the others. I've tasted them all. I found Batch Two it to be quite minerally and almost mescal-like. I didn't detect very many of the tasting notes that both of the Whisky Vault blokes mentioned. But their tasting notes in their YT review of Batch Two DO apply to later batches. I'm thinking they read up online for tasting notes and mixed up their batches. I'm not surprised. They censored my comments. The little guy in charge is kind of a wilting violet. His reviews these days are all about him, personally. A bit of a narcissist. It seems, at least in that review of the Batch Two, that both of them didn't really attempt to use their own noses and mouths to analyze the whisky.
Nice review. I really love this one. But I do also like unaged Mezcal and Tequila. I have batch 2 and maybe the extra Sherry barrels cut down on the youthful notes.
You've been working out. lol. New videos show a bigger Geoff. This one slaps you in the face.

Loads of batch variation. I've got a review of a more recent batch coming. Much better.
@@Gwhisky which batch is the newer one?

I've yet to find any newer releases from the WIP line. I hear they're fantastic. Sadly, this was my only experience with these expressions. 🥃

Great review. I have Batch 4 and haven’t really gotten along with it so far, about 1/4 down the bottle. Hey - someone’s gotta say it, right 😏
