That's pretty darn cool that you got more value in gold then you spent on the material in your last video. I imagine you probably only made a couple dollars an hour for your time after processing costs, but it still gets the mind stirring. A tip if you need some concentrate peroxide on the fly: Just throw one of those 3% bottles in the freezer. The water freezes and falls out of solution leaving peroxide at around ~30% concentration that can be poured right out into a different container.
+Cody'sLab I think I learned of it at random stumbling on a video from a nutritionist or some such thing years ago. I was a bit stunned it wasn't a more commonly known method, it works quite well and takes 0 effort. A friend of mine also concentrates his apple cider alcohol in that way, but that's a different story.
This is the only video of your that i know a lot about. I am a professional refiner here in Denmark. I also do quite a bit of amateur refining/smelting. I really enjoy seeing your process in your video's with good explanations.
Tudor Oltean Not so sure. I forgot all the specifics of this reaction (being I didn't watch the video again) but Silver loves peroxides and sulfides to the best of my knowledge. I was under the impression he was trying to resolve all metals from the gold alloy and was very impressed.
Cody, that blue gemstone in the right pile looks like topaz. My mother makes jewlery, so I am no expert, but, i am pretty sure its blue topaz. It's awfully blue for aquamarine, those are *_usually_* more teal colored, and its not blue enough to be sapphire, sapphires are usually a deep dark blue. Blue topaz is commonly a light sky blue though, with less green than an aquamarine has. It may be the color balance of the camera tho. Telling topaz and aquamarine apart by color alone is nearly impossible tho, but 'ideal' aquamarines are usually richer in color and more teal then that.
This is currently one of my favorite UA-cam series; second only to your mine series. Gold refining is something I've been thinking about getting into since I have access to tons of scrap electronics with gold pins. Unfortunately, I live in an apartment and would have to figure out a solution to ventilation, lol. Keep it up! =D
+TheBlackBeltPanda What the others are saying, or look into checking if you can get access to the rooftop area? Probably not in most cases... but who knows you might have a nice landlord! If he does say no you could always go with proper ventilation in a room + a fume hood to extra fumes if its within your options. Alternatively maybe a project for the summer holidays? Perhaps you could go "visit your parents" and do the stuff there if they have more suitable free space for it for example.
This may be to personal but if you have no qualms with sharing, how do you get the money to fund all of these experiments? Have a nice day cody cheers.
+Cody'sLab you chan is growing fast cody, u are just working towards that, and gold extraction and mining seem to get a lot of atention from viewers, not so cool as making 2h2o though ;\
I think it would be really cool if at the end you took all the refined gold and combined it to get like a small gold brick. Love you're videos, keep on the good work! :)
nice, love the economic breakdown and blender destruction which you should put in your title for the draw & add revenue. I watched all your commercials all the way through and I leave them on mute while I do something else to build it for ya. All UA-cam watchers should do that on good quality vids. Of course the gold & silver extraction is super cool in the first place.
The clip at 9:00 to 9:40 is really intersting. because it just goes to show how incredibly dense gold really is, where that large pile weighs less than the other 2
Cody, you didn't loose money, you just forgot to count in the stones! You did the same mistake on the previous batch! 😃 Other than that, love your channel ! Just discovered it the other day and almost became addicted! Haven't seen anything similar to this before! Great work, keep it up m8! 😀
Hey Cody! I'm a Metrologist and deal in calibration every day, I calibrate scales like the one you just got quite often. Just a tip, ensure you always place what you're weighing in the center of the pan, I noticed you placed a couple off to the side in this video, also, be sure to close that sliding door on the side of your scale before accepting the weight you see on the screen! Love your videos man! just want you to get the best, most accurate reading from your new scale!
+Joe Norton I worked in pharmaceutics earlier in life, and I remember that as well. The scales were actually sensitive enough to weigh the air...well that and/or got disturbed by the air moving around it I suppose.
+Joakim Thörngren yes exactly, as you weigh smaller and lighter things they are more susceptible to outside forces like drafts and vibrations. and scales are inherently most accurate in the center of the weighing surface. when you get down on the ounces range you have to take alot into consideration if you want an accurate measurement.
At the end of the series you should combine all the beads and purify it once more. Maybe then you could add up the total cost of all the gold and how much you made after purifying it.
U could melt everything into one piece of raw metal. Use this as an anode for electrolysis. Gold will fall off as dust and at least all the copper will cover the kathode. thats pretty much how I process gold pins and electrical contacts I am constantly collecting from e-junk
I love that your girlfriend's name is Canyon! Not only do I think that's a pretty name to begin with, but that is ALSO the name of Billy's Girlfriend from Adventure Time! So now every time I hear you talk about her I can't help but think of Canyon from Adventure Time!
I know hydrochloric acid + strong peroxide will dissolve copper. Form enough cupric chloride and it will keep dissolving until you run out of hydrochloric. edited to add: You can then recover the copper by adding aluminum to the solution.
Ya can't just go by spot price. Ppl will pay a premium for hand poured bars. Also a popular UA-cam like you could get much more. Sreetips refines precious metals, and one thing he does is run a silver electrolysis cell. Sometimes he gets some very interesting crystals. Right now he has some on Ebay and its already at about 3.5 time spot silver prices. Heck copper is around $3/lbs and nobody old me sold a 6lbs bar for $100 awhile back.
Cody, the gemstone that you have that you think is a diamond is not. I am a Graduate Gemologist (GIA) so I know a thing or two about diamonds. First, Cubic Zirconia (CZ) is much harder than glass. Also it appears to have rounded facet junctions (where the facets meet) diamonds would not. Also the girdle, the ring around the center of the stone, appears to be fully polished in one facet. This cannot be done with a diamond. Diamonds can have a faceted girdle that is polished, but not one complete facet. CZ has a high thermal conductivity as well. Obviously I am interpreting a image from a video so it I could be incorrect. BTW, your aquamarine guess is probably not either, I think it might be topaz, but I haven't watched your other video yet. But I love your videos.
Cody, why don't you do some breakdowns of gold extraction from used electronics. I've always been interested in say the general value per stick of RAM/CPU or maybe even from a cell phone. I've got a good stockpile I've been itching to mess with.
Cody do you think you could put something solid colored, maybe paper or cloth, on that countertop? It is very hard to see the small objects placed on it, they disappear into the pattern of the counter material.
Cody, might your diamond be a diamond substitute such as cubic zirconia? I'd expect a diamond of that size to be worth more than the gold you recovered from your previous video.
2:28 "Its probably not necessary that I actually use a blender but it something I've always wanted to try" pretty much the definition of boys will be boys right up there with "Seemed like a good idea at the time" We just can't help it right? :D

I;ve evaporated it down before but I'll have to try that!

cool to see you here love your videos!
+Psycomega And not too shabby a pony either
Nice shout dude.
this series is relaxing and intellectually stimulating at the same time. i thoroughly enjoy watch it, cody. well done.
Never lend any kitchenware to Cody
...and never be in the same room.
that blender plastic easily could have become shrapnel. mostly because of the chain. leave the chain out at least.
Sure? You may get new stuff in return, plated in 24K gold.
This is the only video of your that i know a lot about. I am a professional refiner here in Denmark. I also do quite a bit of amateur refining/smelting. I really enjoy seeing your process in your video's with good explanations.
Dude you explain so well and you are so thorough detailed when making these videos. You're great :D
Go to yard sales and ask if they have any broken jewelry, sometimes people will just give it away for free.
Adding HOOH to this reaction is way over my level and absolutely shows that this guy is a genius. Impressed.
It was a cool idea, too bad it didn't work because of the silver.
Tudor Oltean Not so sure. I forgot all the specifics of this reaction (being I didn't watch the video again) but Silver loves peroxides and sulfides to the best of my knowledge. I was under the impression he was trying to resolve all metals from the gold alloy and was very impressed.

I love the color you get when dissolving the copper.
"$10 of acid"
I'm down!
I used to use that same model scale back in my pharmacy days. Excellent choice.
Always a good night when Cody uploads
I'm really enjoying this series. can't wait for more.
This is currently one of my favorite UA-cam series; second only to your mine series. Gold refining is something I've been thinking about getting into since I have access to tons of scrap electronics with gold pins. Unfortunately, I live in an apartment and would have to figure out a solution to ventilation, lol. Keep it up! =D
+TheBlackBeltPanda use a fan and a custom built hood with a tube taking all fumes out the window
+TheBlackBeltPanda You should look into purchasing or building a "fume hood", where you can direct the fumes out of an opened window or something.
+TheBlackBeltPanda What the others are saying, or look into checking if you can get access to the rooftop area? Probably not in most cases... but who knows you might have a nice landlord! +Maru OP Breath in, more like snort in
I thoroughly enjoy your Shenanigans into chemistry.
Cody, I've never waited so anxiously for a video to come out. Keep it up :D
This may be to personal but if you have no qualms with sharing, how do you get the money to fund all of these experiments? Have a nice day cody cheers.
+ryangallo08
from selling my fame...
+Cody'sLab ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Fame
UA-cam ad revenue (not much), his patreon, and whatever he want to give of his own towards the channel.
+Cody'sLab you chan is growing fast cody, u are just working towards that, and gold extraction and mining seem to get a lot of atention from viewers, not so cool as making 2h2o though ;\
+ryangallo08 That means don't use ad block if you want to support Cody.
Geez, this is fun to watch. Can't wait for the rest of the precious metals.
Cody, thank you so much for these longer videos... your channel is excellent, and I hope it keeps growing.
Always enjoy these videos. Never a dull moment
I love your videos, I envy you!!!!!!!! Definitely one of the best UA-cam channels in my own opinion
Great vid Cody ! Appreciate your insight to the chemical formula!
The audio used to be fine in this video lol what did UA-cam do XD
I'm glad you and your lady friend got a few good giggles in with using the blender. I'm thinking the chains did the most damage.
i didnt think the chemistry would be fun!
I think it would be really cool if at the end you took all the refined gold and combined it to get like a small gold brick. Love you're videos, keep on the good work! :)
3:33 What's that? A tiny crack? You don't wanna blend with a crack like that
DHMIS reference?
ofc
Dut dut dut dut dut... dut dut dut dut dut do it blendy!
"This might not be the best idea. In fact, it might be the worst idea, haha!" I really love your videos man!
why is it that when I'm going to bed, Cody draws me into his channel with science
What an amazing human. A prime example of mankind if you ask me.
You could easily sell this sort of content to educators I reckon. So interesting and intrinsically safe.
That jewelery looked excited in that blender!
Audio wasnt synced
Thank you for letting me know that now I know what happened to most of some of the gold I had

love this series keep them comin cody nice work
Great job man, you're a champion.
I had to laugh when he was trying to cheer himself up about losing money "so, I got that going for me"
At the end of the series you should combine all the beads and purify it once more. Maybe then you could add up the total cost of all the gold and how much you made after purifying it.

As a chemist, your techniques and safety precautions are killing me (i'm glad they're not killing you)
Is it just me or is most of this video out of sync with the audio😭
you should have used distilled water in the blender ,... love your video !!!!
[ sharp pulsing metallic sounds ]
i gonna steal my grandmas old gold stuff and do this :D
+Jeda Diea thats how you get smacked
+FantasmaNaranja You spelled "murdered" wrong.
+Mac1634 hah thats gold.
+Justin Sherriff, I hope you're happy.
See if you can get her teeth out, too. There might be some mercury or gold in there.
This is so cool. I don't know why, but it is.
Really hyped for the silver episode!
You're making a gold smoothie!
i love these gold Videos
I love that your girlfriend's name is Canyon! Not only do I think that's a pretty name to begin with, but that is ALSO the name of Billy's Girlfriend from Adventure Time!
So now every time I hear you talk about her I can't help but think of Canyon from Adventure Time!
When you've got all of the gold you plan to refine, you should melt it down and condense it into one large bead of gold.
Thumbs up for the formula you wrote..
Whoa, so the diamond was real! That's pretty cool =)
The video and audio do not match. Hard to watch.
I know hydrochloric acid + strong peroxide will dissolve copper. Form enough cupric chloride and it will keep dissolving until you run out of hydrochloric.
edited to add: You can then recover the copper by adding aluminum to the solution.
Cody should gold plate that silver play button.
you deserve so much more attention
This will help me alot when robbing an old lady - thanks alot!
you're forgetting the various rocks and silver in the $140 worth of jewelry. they won't be worth a lot, but they'll be worth something.
i love it! next one now! :)watching the advertisement just to help you out. :)
Very nice video! Well Done!

I've been waiting for another episode
I use that brand of scale at work, Id recommend you calibrate if you havent already.
I see you got that good scale there.
cody try buying computer memory cards by weight. and extract the gold from them.
is cheap and will give more better end results.
yea sounds fine in jersey
3:49
the jewlry "Im out peace "
And dude, that was a very close measurement on your large bead!
Cody, the gemstone that you have that you think is a diamond is not. I am a Graduate Gemologist (GIA) so I know a thing or two about diamonds. First, Cubic Zirconia (CZ) is much harder than glass. cody ya hellyin thats dangerous putting jewelry in the blender!
Keep 'em comin!!
600$!?!?!?!??!
geez!
and we use the same scales in our school.
dude, he had like ~$950 right there in those beads of gold.
I need to get my hands on some gold
Hydrochloric acid will dissolve copper and I can get it for $5/gallon (~10 moles) at home depot. It won't really touch silver though.
+TheIdeanator copper doesn't dissolve in hydrochloric, it only dissolves in nitric acid
Cody do you think you could put something solid colored, maybe paper or cloth, on that countertop? It is very hard to see the small objects placed on it, they disappear into the pattern of the counter material.
A metalworkers guillotine might have been a better idea than the blender. :O(
Or... borrow someone else's blender! :O)
Cody, might your diamond be a diamond substitute such as cubic zirconia? I'd expect a diamond of that size to be worth more than the gold you recovered from your previous video.
Blendtec will be proud
i cant wait for you to refine youtube gold trophy plate
This guy is the next breaking bad
he sounds so much more energetic
That aquamarine could be spinel
hahaha this is better than saterday morining cartoons
it would be really cool if at then end, you melted down the gold and made a coin type thing
will it blend?
don't breathe this!!
" I know what your going to say But Cody gold doesn't oxidize" yes I was totally going to say that...
Any plans to isolate the silver from today's experiment, maybe put it next to the bead from a couple episodes ago?
dude our hand writing look pretty damn similar!
Great stuff as per usual! How're the plants at the mine doing? Been a while, hopefully they haven't froze.
that is the question
When the beat drops 2:53
Take a shot every time he says gold in the first 20 seconds
2:28 "Its probably not necessary that I actually use a blender but it something I've always wanted to try" pretty much the definition of boys will be boys right up there with "Seemed like a good idea at the time"
We just can't help it right? :D
Love your videos win or losse
