Hey Cody. You mentioned that there might be a bit of copper in that bead. Iodine has an affinity for gold but copper is also in the same series of elements. So it would stand to reason that there is copper in your bead. A second refining with Aqua Regia and dropping with Sodium Metabisulfite will remove the copper. Since Iodine is a very selective leachant of gold, it could be used to remove gold off of other metals like stainless steel and any other non-reactive metal. Just something to think about. Great Job! It would be impure, tiny of silicon and other metals from the PCB would get in with the gold. The chemical process is more clean. Plus it's really hard to scrape it off, it's like trying to scrape off ink from a paper.
There are normally fine strands of gold from pads on the silicon, inside most high end chips, to the silver pins heading to the outside of the package. If you search for images of "decapped chip" you will see these very fine gold wires. The only danger is the arsenic n-type dopant used in the silicon. If it was not for that, I would suggest using a ball mill to generate a powder and panning for the gold! Of course some of the packages are plastic (need to incinerate first) and some are ceramic.

Hey don't forget to toss all the copper in the trash from the boards its only worth about 10x as much as the gold youll get off the boards by weight. Yep thats right those boards have pennies worth of gold per pound and about 10x as much money in copper. Any circuit board is made up of thin copper sheets. A copper sheet from a single computer mother board is worth 15 or 20 cents and the gold you.ll recover is worth maybe 5 cents if your very lucky. I live in ohio north east ohio wont say exactly where but one company that did this recovery nonsense for a while use to toss out strips of mother boards after the recovered the gold looked like a brown nasty mess. Me my one brother and brother in law put those strips through acid and resolved every thing the plastic coating etc floats and the copper goes in to solution and settles out as powdered copper . A heaping truck load of board scrap yielded multiple 5 gallon buckets of purified copper powder giving us a net profit of about 6500 bucks split 3 ways. We used bucked with holes drilled in them and filters bought from a local restaurant supply place used for filtering fryer oil to reclaim all the copper powder from the neutralized acid. What you basically have in those boards in the end is the small traces of gold become the waste product that you set to the side while reclaiming the copper. If you start with the goal of getting that copper from the boards and save your waste gold left overs over a year the gold becomes a nice bonus also there's more silver on various boards. All current electronics for the most part use high silver content solder as lead is bad for you or some such. Fact is this is why game consoles like x box 360 got the errors related to video and chip-set needing "reballed" or reworked. While silver is non toxic it is also more brittle than lead and has a higher chance of failure do to heating and cooling cycles. This is why xbos gpus and chip sets come loose causign the various errors. Also a reason why laptop video fails etc. Any how re run that scrap and see for your self how much copper you get compared to how much gold in scrap out value.
You can go to a lot of electronics disposal places and they will gladly let you take the parts off their hands because it saves them money, and you could do a larger scale process and potentially make a very tiny profit.
