Huh. You've mentioned it before but I didn't quite get what you were talking about. That "flashing over" or whatever you called it is a quite interesting effect. I'm guessing it's caused by the energy released in the phase change?
Cody! I'm a 16 year old currently taking Chemistry 20-1 (Canada) and I have to say, this really interests me! Watching your videos are surprisingly informative and entertaining! Keep it up, you're doing great! (:
The content on this channel is truly some of THE best on UA-cam. Im so happy for you, the growth of your channel is staggering to watch, and you deserve it. You're awesome man.
Congratulations! I just read the article about you in 'Utah Stories' while visiting SL, UT. Keep up the cool things you do and keep sharing with everyone online!
it actually would be fun to see if he could get iron out of things that contain dietary iron, like for example apples (they turn brown cause of iron oxidizing, so I'd imagine he could get the iron out of it.
@Snow Storm This is incorrect. Apples brown from catechol being oxideized by an enzyme catechol oxidase to form o-quinone, which then polymerizes to make melanin (the pigment found in skin)
I recently returned from a metallurgy trip to Chilean gold and copper mines, Cody's videos are on par with industry veterans in terms of content and ease of understanding, great job!
You Made It Clear For All That Think Of Extracting Gold From Electronics Just How Much Of It There Is, Actually Very Little, Scarce Ammounts Meant To Increase Electric Conductivity!
For a change of state to occur there is an amount of energy either absorbed or released at the moment of state change, (why evaporation of water cools you down effectively ). When a liquid changes state to a solid, it releases a set amount of energy, called the specific heat of fusion, or when a changes state to a gas; the specific heat of evaporation. The flash was caused by the heat generated but the change of state, from a liquid to a solid. This is different to the specific heat capacity, which is general thermal energy stored in a non-state changing process. =)
Hopplar a " hot metal " reaction occurred. Radiation is/was present . a radioactive material deteriorated. no big bang. lucky ducky. this type of thing is way better left to a TRUE professional. Too many variables. bad shit can happen. to not only yourself but entire neighborhood.
I've been watching your channel since since before 100k and it blows my mind that you're halfway to a million subs, which you should hit this year! And it's well deserved at that
This might be a weird and futile thing to do, but how about extracting iron/making steel from the black sand you get from gold panning? From what I know it's Fe3O4 and makes thermite comparable to copper oxide thermite, which may also be an interesting video to make if you survive it.
thats what he calls "flashing over" Cody-" the bead was super cooled to below its freezing point and then jumped back up (changing from red hot to orange hot) when is started to solidify."
I'm gonna go on a limb here and say it's the electrons going crazy and emitting light as the molecules rearrange themselves when going to solid or maybe it is incandescent gas that gets pushed outwards as the core of the bead solidifies. Please someone?
Even though I have no idea what's going on, I watch every single video. It reminds me of years ago, when I was a kid, and I dreamed of growing up and become a crazy scientist.
How much would the electricity from the furnace and the acids cost? I think it's safe to say close to, if not higher than the price of the gold, but I'm genuinely curious about how razor-line any profit would be.
+Cody'sLab Hello Cody. I was wondering if you knew of a way to strip nickel off of a brass key. I was wondering because I work at a hardware store and all of the keys we make that don't work just get thrown away. If possible could you make a video about that or maybe have a link to an article on it. I inquire because for me it would be an easy way to get brass for my furnace and I'm having a hard time finding any papers about it.
+Roger Todd there's a project called Mars one with about 100 applicants I think of people who may one day be sent to Mars with the hope of setting up a colony Google it and you can read about it and see some of the applicants videos
I personally hate when people destroy possibly useful stuff in the hopes of getting a tiny amount of some precious metal, but god damn I love watching you do this stuff.
Hi Cody, I just watched a video on making bismuth crystals. I was just wondering if you could make a video to see if you could make as big a bismuth crystal as you can.
same reason that it is rather warm during a snow storm. the bead was super cooled (much colder than the melting point) and then it released heat as it solidified, this raised the temperature back up to the melting point for a short time.
Amritpal Singh yes, I have a very slight idea of the things he says but still find every word entertaining. if my chemistry teacher knew how to teach like this I would have learned a lot more in school.
Well to be honest I have slightly ideas whats going on based from what I've seen from my chem lessons (for ex like these acids dissolving metals or electrolysis or how he is able to do these things without gold making strange bonds because it is a noble metal etc) but never seen these things in real life only on papers so its very interesting and informative.
In case you don't know, he enjoys doing this stuff, also if you were doing this for profit you would be able to get more if you really wanted to. And like the other guy said he got heaps from ads in this video
Hi Cody, If you run mercury threw the material that you pan out you will find more gold. That gold is so fine when you shake the pan that gold will fly around like it was in a snow globe.
your family's property in those hills/mountains, it looks like a giant sand box of cool stuff! you got lots of cool toy's and tractors and then you go all the tools to build whatever you want and you got the mine to supply the materials and animals for food
Good gawd man, 'giz some warning before you throw a 'dozer at the end. Fantastic to finally see the gold refinement and great to see the bulldozer actually working, assuming the tracks are fixed now then.
On a side note. If you melt some hard wax into the joints of those treads it will lubricate them without attracting dust. Add some teflon powder to the wax for even better results.
8:45 Wow, I've never seen metal "blink" like that! Very cool!
Cody is un-stoppable when it comes to optimism.
Even when he's lost money on his adventures he's still all peppy, it's great
I mean, he also makes UA-cam money even on the tasks that aren't worth it for the metal, but you're right, it's so refreshing to see
Hey Cody, can you try extracting iron from blood?
That sounds cool, but the amount might be way too insignificant to detect
sick
I was about to comment this lol.
Or retrieve heavy metals from fish livers
+Carter Dioxide not with enough blood. He could harvest some from nearby retirement homes
One of the few channels that upload unique and highly interesting videos.
what are others? can you suggest
i have learnt more from your channel in 6 months than school taught me about science in 6 years. thank you for my renewed love.
says the guy who has a butt for a avatar
Luke'sAivation Also says the guy who doesn't know how aviation is spelled.
What's wrong with liking butts AND science...??
You know so many things and still you're humble, i'm glad to know that some people like you exist on this planet
Don't understand half of this episode but in still strangely addicted
same
same here.
crucibles and metal refining sounds really cool
That's the codylabs way lol
same
Huh. You've mentioned it before but I didn't quite get what you were talking about. That "flashing over" or whatever you called it is a quite interesting effect. I'm guessing it's caused by the energy released in the phase change?
Yes, the bead was super cooled to below its freezing point and then jumped back up (changing from red hot to orange hot) when is started to solidify.
That was really interesting to see in action, nice job getting it on camera!
***** It's one of those effects that I can't imagine likely to think up without having seen it happen.
xbNeiL787 _ ... What?
Think he was on about the bulldozer at the end
Is it just me or the Cody's lab logo on each new episode gets more difficult to read than the previous one?
+Its Sean lol
***** Haha, no, seriously mate it just hit me. Do you have the link by any chance?
Ok then, I guess it's not just me :p
+Its Sean I remember that comment too :P Don't remember what episode of what series though :/
+Jim Angel True XD
Cody! I'm a 16 year old currently taking Chemistry 20-1 (Canada) and I have to say, this really interests me! Watching your videos are surprisingly informative and entertaining! Keep it up, you're doing great! (:
Dude, Lets do this to some cell phones. Utah bros unite. I have plenty of phones. Newer iPhones included.
JerryRigEverything Why is your name Zach, But the channel name is Jerry? Also I love your channel
omar ali I'm assuming you aren't familiar with the phrase "Jerry Rig" then?
Rossa O Riain No, I'm not.
Would be funny if his name was also Jerry though
When something is jerry rugged it’s improvised and makeshift

I just saw it! awesome!
+Cody'sLab yeah it is! I knew it was you when it said 'Tooele's UA-cam Star'. I'm super excited for you, you deserve it!
+PRO-digi yeah, Salt Lake, Utah. I thought that was obvious...
+PRO-digi there are so many shirts for this
USCOMBATDIVER I'm not from America so it wasn't for me.
Gold refining and mining are the best videos, Thanks for making good videos.
I wanna see how much iron you can get from a very iron rich cereal
it actually would be fun to see if he could get iron out of things that contain dietary iron, like for example apples (they turn brown cause of iron oxidizing, so I'd imagine he could get the iron out of it.
Snow Storm that would be so cool to see
I wanna see how many people can be killed with 1L of bleach
@Snow Storm This is incorrect. Apples brown from catechol being oxideized by an enzyme catechol oxidase to form o-quinone, which then polymerizes to make melanin (the pigment found in skin)
Collin Bardini well, just looked it up, and you're right, but the apples still contain iron, so my point stands
I recently returned from a metallurgy trip to Chilean gold and copper mines, Cody's videos are on par with industry veterans in terms of content and ease of understanding, great job!
you know you watched too much of this series when you can exactly guess the weight of a tiny piece of gold in cody's hand just by looking at it
You Made It
Clear For All
That Think Of Extracting
Gold From Electronics
Just How Much Of It
There Is,
Actually Very Little,
Scarce Ammounts Meant
To Increase Electric Conductivity!
My dad works at the refinery at kennecot. The copper will come out better if you use hot acid. Even hot cleaning vinegar will do it well.
good to know, thanks!
I'm so happy every time I see a new video from you....your methods, delivery, everything. It's simply stellar.
That blue could be Cobalt from ammeters or capacitors, and you need to be careful of the dangerous fumes from smelting it!
Oh shit. You're right
I think the first video of this is when I found your channel. After binge watching a lot of your stuff you became 1 of my favorites.
Cody, what's the worst accident when dealing with chemicals/crucibles you have ever encountered?
This is a good question
Yes answers this question
His only accident he has had in his time on youtube is one time, he was demonstrating his dishwashing technique and he broke a glass and cut himself.
he once aggrivated a bee hive and got stung everywheree
burnt a goat to the ground
Glad to see electrorefining/elecrtowinning up close and personal. Great series of techniques used here, is the hallmark of true brilliance.
8:49 can someone explain what happened here? I've never seen a molten metal "pulse" light and heat like that.
well he said it solidified, but I'd love to know more about why that happens and what goes on to make it flash
Hopplar boooooommm
The Gold flashing over like that when it solidifies is pretty cool.
about 3 dollars of gold, not bad!
Plus around $50 of UA-cam $$$ as I write this comment. Not bad
comments don't add revenue
+Wyatt Zapotok Um can you read boy? I said "as I write" so within that time.
again... wrong. It's per view. Not time.
dude, calm down.
I've been watching your channel since since before 100k and it blows my mind that you're halfway to a million subs, which you should hit this year! And it's well deserved at that
next time you should put your magnet in a bag so it's easier to clean the iron off.
Instead he should over do it like in all his videos, and build a big ol' electro magnet!
or use electromagnet and switch off the power
as a computer "geek" if you will, that bag of parts, really hit me in the feels
Haha did I hear a goat??
I heard it too!
By far the best videos you make are the precious metal refining videos!
Extracting iron from cereals
Blend it with water and move a magnet over it.... it really works
Leonard Greenpaw really?
Fahd El khamlichi
yes, the iron bits are surprisingly big
Leonard Greenpaw I saw a video about it
thanks for the information
+Blissful Shawn You either expect very large pieces or you have a very sma-
I like how you can educate people on this cause most people don't have resources to do this themselves.
This might be a weird and futile thing to do, but how about extracting iron/making steel from the black sand you get from gold panning? From what I know it's Fe3O4 and makes thermite comparable to copper oxide thermite, which may also be an interesting video to make if you survive it.
Sounds like a dangerous idea. I like it. :D
"...if you survive it."
Riley & Mitsu He had the determination, dedication and devotion to do copper thermite. What could possibly go wrong?
famous overused last words lmao
yea lol
Lol "if you survive it"? It isn't an explosive thermite, is it?
who disliked this video Cody spends his money and time not mentioning he has school to(I think) so appreciate at least he uploads
5:34 - "Moisturize me!"
What a reference.
only people who have been to new new new new new new new new new new new new new new new york will understand that
XD
You sir are an awesome human being.
😂
Nice to see the International is back in operation, and doing what is was meant to do 50 years after it left the factory.
love your videos please do some more mine videos they are the best.
Tbh all of his videos are the best
+Its Sean
ok
I just love the 'Home Video' style of your vids.. No big productions, just some fun information... And easy on the brain :-)
Dozer putting in work!! What a beast!! Does that thing have brakes? If so, what kind?
It has a 6 ton break on the front. :)
+Cody'sLab your intros are getting harder and harder to read
+Cody'sLab wow
Holy cow... or holy 3 cows, rather lool
can I ask what you do for a living, It would shed so much light on why your so smart about all this mining stuff. Are you a geologist?
It is always fascinating to see something solid like metall flow white yellowish glowing.
Why the goid piece glowed for a second when it solidified?
i second this question
Interested
thats what he calls "flashing over" Cody-" the bead was super cooled to below its freezing point and then jumped back up (changing from red hot to orange hot) when is started to solidify."
How's everybody not wondering about that, gold glows when solidifying?!?!
For anyone curious, the internet tells me that that was about $1.60 worth of gold. So razor thin margins is right.
How much would the electricity from the furnace and the acids cost? I think it's safe to say close to, if not higher than the price of the gold, but I'm genuinely curious about how razor-line any profit would be.
Cody your refining videos are the best!
I like mine videos more, but those are great too.
+Cody'sLab

nickel dissolves in HCl brass does not.
Yeah High Colestral Lemons dissolves anything lol
your spelling hurts me
+bobthemity. It was part of the joke....
RIP Bobthemity
I love the science involved with precious metals! Thanks Cody!
Are you going to keep making videos if your in mars??
I second that
***** yeah there is its called youtude red
Is that a joke or is he going to Mars
+Roger Todd there's a project called Mars one with about 100 applicants I think of people who may one day be sent to Mars with the hope of setting up a colony
Google it and you can read about it and see some of the applicants videos
my thoughts 501 you're*
i love this awesome clips at the end of a video. Its like a reward for watching the whole video.
Today i will be refining calcium and iron from my fans blood and bones
vehicle insanity cool but discusting
Matheo TEC "discusting"? Really?
mabye he should refine the mercury from his blood XD
I volunteer!
I wonder if anybody sent him some blood samples :)
I personally hate when people destroy possibly useful stuff in the hopes of getting a tiny amount of some precious metal, but god damn I love watching you do this stuff.
qhen will the new mine episode will be out
My parts just got shipped so...
+Cody'sLab Omg tou actually replied and i love all your videos
+Cody'sLab when will it be out?
+Jagvir Rathore You are watching on mobile right?
+witherguy 01 I am
Great work Cody. Always love getting to see your videos.
Hi Cody, I just watched a video on making bismuth crystals. I was just wondering if you could make a video to see if you could make as big a bismuth crystal as you can.
Video from Crazy Russian Hacker
+IntrepidPvP That's the one.
You/r channel is incredibly fascinating. Keep up the good work Cody!
Hey Cody, why does the gold appear to flash as it solidifies?
same reason that it is rather warm during a snow storm. the bead was super cooled (much colder than the melting point) and then it released heat as it solidified, this raised the temperature back up to the melting point for a short time.
+Cody'sLab that's really cool! Thanks for responding, love your videos
Is the price a lot to run the furnace?
+Cody'sLab and the dozer now sounds way better.
the gold solidifying was literally the coolest thing ive seen today
Omg, when it solidified i thought FOR SURE you had accidentally collected a dragonball by mistake instead.
I’m going to love seeing you in probably several years from now make a video titled “Making uniform ingots from my ton and a half of loose gold”
Anyone else here that has absolutely no idea what he's doing but still watched the whole video! ?
Amritpal Singh yes, I have a very slight idea of the things he says but still find every word entertaining. if my chemistry teacher knew how to teach like this I would have learned a lot more in school.
Me
Well to be honest I have slightly ideas whats going on based from what I've seen from my chem lessons (for ex like these acids dissolving metals or electrolysis or how he is able to do these things without gold making strange bonds because it is a noble metal

@@MrFrezeeTr it's as if we care.
One of the best channels on YT. Good work and keep it up Cody!
Where did you get your education?
Wikipedia mostly.
+Cody'sLab BAHAHA Cody you're the realist UA-camr haha
am sure from NileRed as well ;)
Cody got his education at Utah State University for a major in geology.
Your channel has quickly become a favorite of mine, keep up the awesome work!
Has your 100k silver button arrived?
#givecodydasilverbutton
+F. G. E. Sci. So he can melt it ;)
He's just gonna melt it down!! ...which I'd love to see.
+Taterz yes
he made gold one, he do not need silver one, it's silver scrap)
Well done Cody, thank you for all your hard work in giving us all this great information. Love your vids. Keep it up man!
8:32 The new Doritos flavor
THANK YOU!!!! for bringing back this series!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
$1.72 in gold... not really worth it.
it was worth the ad revenue though
In case you don't know, he enjoys doing this stuff, also if you were doing this for profit you would be able to get more if you really wanted to.
And like the other guy said he got heaps from ads in this video
well I would really like to see the youtube ad revenue from 35k views... my best guess it's about $7.5
It's an educational video, it's not for making profit out of refining.
300,000 views equals $3,000 so you can math that out aproximately.
I don't know why but these videos are so entertaining keep it up Cody!
This was so satisfying to watch. Thanks, Cody!
Hey Cody please don't rush videos out take your time people can wait for you to upload
Woohoo! Thanks Cody, I'm hooked on your videos!
That little gold bead solidification process was neat. You hardly get to see that.
Hahaha totally rocking that dozer too!!
Hi Cody, If you run mercury threw the material that you pan out you will find more gold. That gold is so fine when you shake the pan that gold will fly around like it was in a snow globe.
Electrorefining. I learnt the principle on textbook and I am glad to watch your video , make me think that my knowledge has some use......
I really don't know why I find your videos so interesting, but I do.
I love these precious metal videos, I hope you'll be making more soon. thank you for the content!
your family's property in those hills/mountains, it looks like a giant sand box of cool stuff! you got lots of cool toy's and tractors and then you go all the tools to build whatever you want and you got the mine to supply the materials and animals for food
omg i am impressed, i'm studying metallurgical engineering and i love your videos
I never knew most of these things are possible to do, you teach me more things than my average teacher
allways happy to see new videos. very interesting.
I have been waiting for this! Thanks Cody! ;)
Your Dozer, it's impressive. You and your dad got a nice deal with it, I'm looking forward to seeing it earn its keep.
8:45 The flash when the bead solidifies!
I've been looking for that shot.
You're the best man, thank you for all your videos.
Good gawd man, 'giz some warning before you throw a 'dozer at the end.
Fantastic to finally see the gold refinement and great to see the bulldozer actually working, assuming the tracks are fixed now then.
Probably the coolest guy on UA-cam.
8:44 supercooled liquid gold, most awesome thing I've seen in a while
Awesome video! Love the International at the end.
I love when I get a new episode of Cody Slab!
My god he has found a way to solidify the magic blue smoke.
On a side note. If you melt some hard wax into the joints of those treads it will lubricate them without attracting dust. Add some teflon powder to the wax for even better results.
Great vid cody .dozer looks and sounds like shes workin for ya thats sweet
That's almost $3.00 worth of gold and it only took 10 minutes! That's a good return!!
I respect what you do so much man you're so intelligent keep up the great vids!
I literally just finished the rest of the episodes! New episode yay.
05:11 GOATS. He smelted GOATS!!!
Cody the Great wizard!!!
Help get Cody to 1 million!!!! He deserves it!
Brilliant Work Cody And That Tractor is Just Piece Of Work !
Nice
I Need A Farm Myself Now ! :D
