Swimming 🥽👙 is definitely the best in the summer 🏝️🌞. And reading ❤ at the beach ⛱️🏖️😊
Great TBR
So many fun possibilities for June! 😎 Happy Reading! ☀️
thanks! Hope you have an amazing reading month!
Oh nooooo! Not Off Season 🫣😂 this is an epic June Tbr!!! 🦈🦈🦈🦈
hahaa, you are making me nervous about Off Season!
Laymon isn't my favorite, but you never know until you try. I love Jane Eyre. It is a beautiful edition. Yay, summer book time!
🐳🐠🐡🌊
Looks great, Kristine. Happy reading! 🦞
thank you! 🌞
I like the idea of “a pile of possibilities” 😂 I’m not very good at sticking to a planned tbr either, my mood always changes by the time I’m getting to reading them. 🐠
yep! This way, I can keep the pressure off. Putting something on an official TBR makes it kind of feel like homework
Some good possibilities! I’m nervous and excited for Jane Eyre. Lost Souks is really great!! Into The Drowning Deep is a lot of fun. Off Season is pretty good too. 🌊🦑 Have a fun month!!
I'm happy to hear you liked Lost souls, because I was nervous having anything follow after Exquisite corpse.
I love your copy of Jane!! Great looking TBR
Isn't it so pretty? Have you started Jane yet?
@@Kritz_Reads not yet. I forgot to put it in my TBR video but I have plans to read it this month
I loved The Drive In book one!!!! Cant believe you got the old school copies on pango - so cool! I have a new edition bind up. Still have to read the next book. Off Season is crazy but definitely not for everyone though. Somd great summer possibilities here 🎉🎉🦈🌊
oops, did I say Pango? I think I got those on ebay, but not for some crazy price. When I went looking, I didn't even realize there was a part 2
I feel the same way about Darcy Coates and borrowed From Below from the library because of the ocean setting. I hope we both love it! i'm so nervous to read Ketchum after my Laymon fails.🤣
From the one Ketchum I read, it was graphic…but not like laymon at all. SA was off the page. I don’t feel so lonely about Coates anymore !
Im sooo happy ❤ i found you channel. 😊 You seriously 😊 are so fun to watch. Especially before bed. Not because your boring. Its just a chill thung to watch before bed
aw, thank you! That makes me feel good. Welcome to the channel!
@@Kritz_Reads Thanks so much 😊
Ooo so many great summer horror books! I really enjoyed From Below for its atmosphere but wished it went a little further. Into the Drowning Deep had a lot going on but I found it really fun! Who doesn’t love evil mermaids? Have a great June!
Also is that Gus Gus in the corner there???? 😮😮😮😮
yes! I had to get Gus gus after seeing Kelsi find him at five below! I def. need some evil mermaids in my life
@@Kritz_Reads not me going Gus Gus hunting today!! 😂
I have no idea why I thought Silent Key was a short story collection. That’s why I haven’t picked it up yet 😂 This is definitely the summer for From Below. I’ve had it staring at me for a while now. Off Season is on my list too 👀 I liked the Dan Simmons I’ve read in the past, so hopefully Summer of Night is a good one!
yes! time to get to all the water books I've been putting off for a year 😂
Summer of Night is also on my tbr it sounds great, love coming of age stories. Have you read The Deep by Nick Cutter? Also if you want a quick water summer read Goosebumps Deep Trouble is a fun one.
I have read the deep, but not that Goosebumps (yet!). I'll have to check that out. Thanks for the recs! Hope we both love Summer of Night!
Lost Souls has been in my TBR cart for so long. I don't think I'll have time to get to it in June, but I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts about it. I love that edition of Jane Eyre. I read Children of Chicago for Kat's Folklore February event this year. I still need to read Laurel Hightower's Silent Key. I'm planning to read her books Day of the Door and Below in June. I really enjoyed Into the Drowning Deep. If you enjoy it, then I also recommend the prequel Rolling in the Deep. Your pile of possibilities looks promising!
What did you think of children of chicago? I b ought it last year after hearing Brad Proctor talk about it. I didn't know there was a prequel to the drowning deep, thanks!
@@Kritz_ReadsI enjoyed the fairy tale elements and the examination of historical Chicago, but the police procedural aspect didn't always work for me. I also felt a bit confused by the ending, but that was probably just me.
I had no idea about the FKA for Poppy Z Brite! Good to know
I don't think I've read any "water" horror yet? I just bought Into the Drowning Deep so I'm hoping to read that one soon too
I didn't know about Billy Martin for awhile either, but that makes sense because the books were all published quite awhile ago and I don't think he is actively writing books anymore. I've had Into the drowning deep recommended to me quite a few times, so hopefully we both enjoy that one!
OK, the new music might grow on me. "A Richard Layman unedited release." Yeah, I can't blame 'em. If I were Richard Laymon's editor, I wouldn't read it either. You and I agree on Exquisite Corpse. 5 stars. I'm looking forward to your review of Lost Souls. the Drive-In and Off Season, good summer horror choices (though Off Season is tough), also Catriona Ward Looking Glass Sound great summer/water horror read.
I'm still a little sad about the music, but I'm sure I'll get over it. I already read Looking glass sound. I loved the first half of that book....but the second half, not so much. Catriona Ward has been a 5 star author for me in the past though. I'm trying to temper my expectations of Lost Souls, but I really want to love it.
🐢
Thanks for watching!
Great tbr! I really hope you have a better time with the Laymon book then I did. Lost Souls is great, I am dying to read Exquisite Corpse. I loved reading Jane Eyre at university, and it is darker then you think. That edition is gorgeous! I loved The Drive-In, seriously twisted and messed up fun. Off Season is freakin terrifying, I think you will love it... I think. 🤔Summer Of Night is a great coming of age story. 🦈
oh wow, you've read so many on my TBR! Exquisite corpse was a 5 star read for me, so hopefully you also like it and have a chance to read it soon!
@@Kritz_Reads As you mentioned, we definitely have similar taste in books.
Sounds like a fuuun month
I listened to Jane Eyre on audiobook. It made it easier but it was still painful 😅. I’m interested to see how you like the Laurel Hightower book.
hahaa, ouch! I read it....but I confuse it with other books written way back when with toxic men. I'm excited to read more Laurel Hightower!
Hey Kritz 😊❤. How have you been? 😊🎉
🐙🐡🦀
thanks for watching!
🤿 darcy’s book was creepy!!
yes! glad to hear it!
I hate to break it to you but The Woods are Dark is no different than any of Laymons other books… Atleast it’s short though! Anyways, my favorite water horror book is Beast by Peter Benchley (author of Jaws)
I'm starting to think I just liked the first Laymon because I didn't know what to expect, but now the novelty has worn off. Wanna know something crazy? I've never even seen Jaws all the way through.
@@Kritz_Reads wow! Have you read the book? I actually prefer the book! Tells more of a story. Doesn’t focus on the shark as much.
That’s definitely a pretty copy of Jane Eyre
I can't resist a beautiful book!
I think From Below is Coates' creepiest book of those I've read. It's very claustrophobic, and some of the visuals are gruesome. Into the Drowning Deep is good, the accompanying novella Rolling in the Deep is excellent. I'd also recommend Lure by Tim McGregor for mermaid horror 🧜♀️🪼.
oooh, I haven't heard about Lure by Tim McGregor. I did read and enjoy wasps in the icecream by him. Thanks for the rec!
