Beautiful I love how Lang Lang plays the best melodies in history.
When you mix up Debussy and Billy Joel as the greatest pianist alive I guess I can mix up all notes in everything I've ever played
omg....
OMFG sameeeeeee
God bless you 4ever!
The best most inspirational musical genius alive!
Happy to be alive same time as you, Master.
I've always admired Lang Lang but could never relate to him until I saw him playing this piece. Most of his performances sound and look like something I could never do, but this was one of the first songs I learned when I was a young student. I still don't have it mastered (because I don't practice enough). Like him, I am also a big fan of C Major songs! Ha! P.S. Looks like I have been playing the "dry" version all these years.
omg i know right!!
Lang Lang how could you play that piece in 2:07 so beautifully??? It sounds so different and enjoyable when you played it. It seems I always got the dry sound though.
Spending with your piano music at the end of that day is almost spiritual healing for me.🥰Thanks you, Lang Lang❤❤❤
Outstanding!
Without any doubt: You are the Master of the Keys - it is extraordinary to have this load of emotional sense in hands and fingers. I am pretty sure you are a music magician 💫🌟✨ I could spend all of my time listening to your explanations and teaching - you are a wonderful precious personality. Have a nice Christmas Season 🎄😘🌺
Thanks
Kuhlau is sadly often pooh-poohed as a composer, because most people, even most classical musicians, know him only through his 19 piano sonatinas, but he also wrote 19 full-blown piano sonatas, and some of these are quite complex and challenging. A new four-volume edition of them was published in Japan a few years back, and I managed to pick these up in Tokyo. I'm especially fond of his three op. 26 sonatas--which have never been recorded or put on UA-cam, a fact which just blows me away, considering their quality. The first of these is also relatively simple, but very high-speed (Molto allegro and a relentless Prestissimo, a "perpetuum mobile"); it's the most "manic" sonata I've ever encountered. The second and third are technically very, very demanding, and their slow movements are gorgeous. But Kuhlau was under pressure from the various publishers in his region to write simple piano pieces, because they sold well; his op. 127 sonata was written early, but he never got it published in his lifetime because the publishers thought it too difficult. It's likely that he had actually written a lot more than we'll ever know about, because his house went up in flames, together with all of his scores and unpublished stuff. He died not long after, probably from the effects of smoke inhalation.
As a child, my first introduction to sonatinas and sonatas included Kuhlau, of course, and these were my favorites among the other "usual suspects." As an adult, I stopped playing the piano for twenty years (constant moving), and then picked it up again, so when I wanted to "get my fingers back," I went on a steady diet of Czerny and Kuhlau for a while.
Wow
Thomas Smith, I totally agree with you. Maybe it's a sort of neglectance, maybe more the fact, that these sonartas are unknown to most people. They contains however great musicality, clever and unpredictable moments, that frequently are ahead of Kuhlau's time. The op. 30 sonata i B flat major and the op. 8a, the op 34 and the op. 127 are great too, but perhaps the op. 46 sonatas and among them the op. 46, no. 2 i d minor - fantasy sonata - it's catching melodic themes has almost "ear-hanger" quality - could and should pave the way for Kuhlau's piano sonatas. I was thrilled when I first heard op. 46 no. 2 i the mid 70's played by John Damgaard Madsen. And there's the piano quartets, the piano concerto with it's irresistible opening rondo-theme in the finale. Not to forget all his ouvertures and flute music. Lang lang is actually doing a very "good job" here and he gets amazing things out the op. 20 sonatine. That alone should make it obviously why Kuhlau is NOT a neglectable composer.
@@nielscarlsen2743 Niels, I'm also quite fond of the op. 46, no. 1 Sonata, especially the "Alla polacca" rondo movement; I find the op. 46, no. 2 Sonata is very much an imitation of Beethoven's op. 13. Just two weeks ago, I took delivery of the three "Piano Variations" volumes from a Danish dealer, and I've only done a quick run-through of the first volume. The last of the six sets of "Easy Variations" (op. 42) is actually rather challenging but highly enjoyable, the op. 12 variations are gorgeous but brutally difficult ... so much here that remains undiscovered. I notice that on WorldCat, even very few music libraries have these volumes. Why? It's beyond me.
There are so many dynamic changes in the Kuhlau piece. I had the same experience with mixing up Mozart and Kuhlau pieces, playing them about the same time! Lol. Love lang lang
Maestro. Easy for you, not so easy for us. You are a natural musician, one of a kind, your talks are inspirational love them. So happy when I find you on U Tube or Facebook xxx
Classical music is one of the best types of music! Lang is my most favorite musician ever! (Also I know no one else besides Lang Lang soooo....)
I'm playing this sonatina right now, the Andante is beautiful too
Good job lang lang!!!
How I wish you would post the whole piece. I’ve heard this many times, but you brought it to life.Thank you, for this and the Beethoven P Concerto 4. Wonderful.

Lang Lang going off on a tangent was quite fun!
Lang Lang would you please make an online masterclass? Would love that.
True
Pls
An_kush he has already done it
Thank Lang Lang!
I've just got back into playing and this is the piece I've been practising lately. There's something so inspiring about such a wonderful pianist celebrating these accessible pieces.
Sending Love 😉❤ from Thailand . You are beyond Amazing !
Lang Lang I love your music and your videos so much 😍😍❤️👍
Thank you, so cute and smart, then inspirational.
Love it 😊
I’ve been looking for this piece for awhile. I’m glad I found it. I played it in childhood. 🥰 it sounds like Mozart, but easier to play with both hands.
Beautiful sound!
Ahahaha I remember I played this piece when I was a kid and there were so many pieces that I could hear inside...it was so funny😂
what a joyable video thanks
playing starts 1:56
감사합니다
the childhood feels omg. this song is a standard intermediate piano bible song. thank you for giving it the royal treatment
I'm love this videos
I am a fan of Lang Lang
For Elise is A minor, but the subtitles said it was E minor, which was wrong.
I think he also says a minor
I just wanna tell that for new pianists, kids etc is not that easy to be so relax, even if you like the song. For example, me, I love this song but I have tried very much to play it in a relaxing and joyful way (im not sure if even now I can play it in good).
So funny! Same here. I learned Mozart’s Sonata Facile first too then asked to do Kuhlau, and I’d mix it up 😆 Can’t go wrong with C Major - no accidentals mean less accidents!!!
I disliked C major for a while, but now it's one of my favorites again. Besides the closely related keys, it pairs really well with my favorite relative minor and major key duo: C minor and Eb major. Also like it in combination with E major like in Beethoven's Waldstein sonata, and with Ab major.
Sei il migliore
Bravo 👏👏👏👏
I wanna Lang Lang be my teacher 😍😍
😂😂😂😂
Lol.Yea
Wow
Same hereee! When I first tried learning Piano Sonatina in C major, Op. 20 No. 1: 1 Allegro I thought it sounded too much like Mozart. Eventually soon after I learned Mozart.
2:24: how I used to play it as a little kid
And that’s how I play now hahah
Für Elise is not in e minor and I think he is also saying a minor !
Jockeymahorn yea. He said a minor. The subtitle is wrong.
@@ilovetiananmen that´s why I said I think he is also saying a minor.
ua-cam.com/video/4ZfgL_lMApc/v-deo.html
he also says correctly it is related to c major. Obviously e minor is not.
喜歡郎朗…😍😍😍
How amazing! It’s absolutely beautiful🤩 I’m learning this piece recently, it’s really challenging in the 16th notes part 😶
When I here any music, it’s kind of exciting to me.
good introduction
Summary: u have to play it elegantly and light
It is fun.watch it.
Lool... Love the confusion part
Its like comparing the beginning of Clementi’s Op. 36 no 6 with Mozart’s Rondo alla turca... XD
Hello. I needed a little help.
It's been 3 years that I've been playing the piano. Since, I believe, 4 weeks ago my teacher has told me to practicing this piece. I've practiced it a lot. I tried different techniques and slower tempo but I still can't play those semiquaver notes fluently.
I would really appreciate it if you could give me a tip on what I should do.
I would like to meet this master atleast on video call .lots to learn from him
when did you first started playing piano untill you get to who you are today ?
He really can say anything musically . Buniatishvili can anyone play te Schumann the way she and Mehta did such freedom too fast but amazing musical wise . I would luv to hear what Lupu , Argerich & Barenboim ,Brendel think of such unbridled but very Schumanesque freedom !

I'd recommend Jacqueline du Pre's version. (Yes, you read that right, and it's not transcribed for the cello.) It's from a documentary and she's being watched by her husband, Daniel Barenboim, and others. He seems to approve. She really brings out the joy in the piece.
1:59 he messed up. All the confidence I need
@@lukechance5593 nah still though
As a Chinese, I can feel the Dongbei humor in his soul. hhhh
Jejeje! Esta pieza es muy bonita pero bien tocada, como lo hace Lang Lang....
0:33 BEST JOKER EVER!!
Kuhlau's piano music is great, like a mixture of Bach and Mozart.
Check out Jano Jendo's CD on Naxos, these
relatively unfamous pieces worth a listen.
That would put Kuhlau pretty much at the apex, and perhaps top 3 in any list of musical composers.
Kuhlau would probably not make it into my top 1000.
Not sure why Lang Lang is wasting his time on this facile trivia.
@@elaineblackhurst1509 Khulau was known as "the Beethoven of the flute" for his incredible mastery in composing for the instrument, despite not knowing how to play it himself. IMO he absolutely does deserve to be honored alongside the other giants of the classical era such as Hayden, Clementi and Mozart. He was a master of both chamber music and keyboard composition, and his music has an emotional richness that almost sounds remniscent of more romantic composers such as Beethoven himself.
@@BenjaminAnderson21
If you enjoy Kuhlau, that’s great and nobody’s business but your own; as for your analysis above, you’ve placed a pigeon amongst the eagles.
(Neither is Clementi an eagle, but at least he’s not a pigeon as well).
Got to say also, it’s quite difficult to take seriously the comments of someone who cannot spell *Haydn* correctly.
❤
Me encantaría, escuchar en español, todas las explicaciones, de Lang Lang. Ojalá se pueda. Gracias!!! Argentina.
Never thought I'd ever hear billy joel and debussy in the same sentence.
Hi! I would like to know which henle level is this piece. Thank you!
I made the same mistake today when my mind wandered and when I looked up at the music score I realized the notes were different ... duh! Yep ... playing the standard Mozart. Now back to Kuhlau ... which is gorgeous if played with the dynamics of Beethoven.
Its really amazing to know that Lang Lang was Inspired to play piano by a cartoon cat Tom
"fur Elise" is in a minor, not e minor.
2:41
谢谢朗朗
Thank you Lang Lang
👍👏👏
what is the song at 01:00
Sounds like Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum from Debussy's Children's Corner suite
the transcript is a bit wrong - Fur Elise is in A minor - not E minor...
classical music is boring only when its played boringly
Pantoleon Antonio I agree
ua-cam.com/video/4ZfgL_lMApc/v-deo.html
Me: Classical music is NOT boring!
People nowadays: I like rock music better.
Me: ....why?
Is fir elise in e minor?
No.
굿굿 !!
The 30 people who put thumbs down on this video SHALL BE CAUGHT!
fur elise is not e minor, it is a minor. And a minor is the relative minor of C major which is a related key, but e minor isn't.
Yeah, Lang Lang knows. The subtitles are just wrong.
前段莫札特,后段挺贝多芬的
i played this song before
it s not a song, can t here anybody singing
Haha! Fur Elise is E Minor?
Für elise is actually in a minor lol he said ist right but the subs are wrong
👍👍👍👍👍🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹
Hehe hehe
Fur Alice is A minor
He said a minor, but the subtitle for some reason says e minor, he said "related to c major" which would be a minor which I'm pretty sure lang Lang knows
I made a mass
I PLAY FUR ELISE I DANT HAVE PIANO SONATINA IN C MAJOR OP20 NO11 ALLEGRO I THAT SONG BOOK
Eh...he's OK. His hand and elbow positions make me nervous. Not sure why everyone thinks this guy is such a genius. He's just playing other people's music. Big whoop.
Not sure if anyone would have the thought that he/she can play as good if we could lay our fingers on Steinway keyboard....(ok, jz kidding..)
Most definitely he cannot play it as bad as I can!
That kid is me
Yea, it’s me too. *cries in a corner*
I love this great artist, but I believe it is time for him to take infantory of his mothers words: "someday all of this wont be worth anything" since the full recovery of his left arm is medically highly unlikely.
carl armstrong where did you hear this from? I thought he had recovered pretty well
Tendonitis is what Lang Lang was diagnosed with, and after a year of absence from the Concert stage, he is now giving Concerts once again, but at a slower less frequent pace. A certified physician recently explained to me what happened, and that a full complete recovery is not possible. It is heart breaking that we may never hear Lang Lang play the Chopin Polonaise as brilliantly again, as he used to.
your message seems so dramatic for nothing, he has fully recovered, go look at his touring schedule, and see the repertoire he is playing. also tendonitis is not permanent.
You just literally use pedal so it sounds cool
Did he say fur Elise's key is E Minor? Isnt it A Minor for godsake?????
Really funny
😆😆😁😁
ㄐ˙ㄑㄕㄘ
I always confused 😕🤔 two of these songs. He is realky right. 😂😆
