You'd be surprised. I give private music lessons and am constantly blown away by what kids can achieve when they're having fun. I wish I'd started when I was five.
I'm 26 and now I'm playing this piece because I love Mozarts music. I started learning one year ago I think I still need a lots of practice. Thanks to Lang Lang for interpreting about this piece.
I want to say a big thank you for your comment/comments (how many it may be), your love and support , I created this channel to reach out to fans and you are amazing❤️❤️. where are you from?
16 years old is quite young. Don't let these conservative standards shape your relationship with progress. Luigi Carroccia started to play the piano at 15yo and managed to arrive in the third stage of the 2015 Chopin Competition. He's also competing this year as well and has a wonderful sound. Dive head first in whatever you want to learn and enjoy the whole process, it's the only thing that really matters at the end.
The very first piece I played in front of an audience was the second movement (Adagio) from Beethovens first piano sonata in f. Never played this sonata by Mozart in C in public but I learned it as well in music school. Hallelujah.
"First" recital piece? Okay, piano players who are feeling demoralized here, don't despair! Obviously Lang Lang is a prodigy and seems a little out of touch with most musicians. But for reference The Royal Conservatory of Music has this piece as a choice from their Level 8 curriculum. They start Prep A, Pre B, 1, 2, 3...Levels 5, 6, 7, 8 are considered "Intermediate." 9 and 10 are "Advanced."
Lang Lang is referring to the first recital piece for child prodigies and not for ordinary people. 🤣🤣 It took me 6 months to learn this piece and it's still not polished yet. 😂😂
I showed this video to my daughter who is playing this piece now. She thinks this is very inspiring for her to rethink what is she doing and how to make practice more fun. All the music or playing are something in common. But it takes long long time to get the simple idea. Love music love classic!
Omg, i am 24 and am learning this piece. When he played saying don't play it like this, that's exactly how I play😂😅🥲😭. I don't sound that bad but i cannot for the life of me play the trills properly. It's sounds good when i practice them but when i listen to my recording I feel like quitting
You play higher pitch first 3 2 3 2 3 2 1 3 1. Don't play the low pitch first like other pianist, always play the higher first. That's how you play Trills, always go first at the higher pitch. Look.. ua-cam.com/video/EN84zyEcqBY/v-deo.html:44
so, you're not really trying to interpret a piece, you just do what you do and that's it? when you hear from the great pianists, they are great for a reason.
I thought that we shouldn't raise the elbows when doing thumbs under, but obvisously Lang Lang does it a lot ... Raising elbows sure helps a lot ... What to think about this ?? Also, his thumbs under technic doesn't sound perfect to my ears, I mean that I can hear a break in the melody when he does them ... I know he is an amazing piano player, am I looking too much for an unecessary perfection ?
yes, you see he can play it so and so,freely, interpret it...or what kind of analisis do you think? There is no analisis in his interpretations...The only interpretation is how he could be more unconventional in order to show music unalfabetical persons his genius, born to understand everything of music...He is tragedy of contemporary scene together with few more of them, with simillar names...I think Composers does not sleep well in their eternity listening him...Or they regret they have ever composed anything of music lol...
What about the second movement? In particular I am most intrigued to know where to use the pedals and especially the sustaining pedal as in the Henle Text I have there are no markings?
You don’t have to use any pedal for Mozart. Just keep a good legato with your fingers. That being said, if you want to use pedal the old aphorism is you should pedal with your ears. That is, listen for where the pedal adds a nice resonance and listen to where holding the pedal makes it sound too blurry.
@@popocrispies You make a good point; whilst Beethoven never met Mozart, it is just possible he heard him play during the very brief but aborted visit to Vienna in 1787. We know how much Beethoven admired Mozart, but he reported later somewhat critically that Mozart’s playing was very ‘choppy’ ie lacking legato; this would suggest that there was virtually no pedalling (probably primitive knee pedals in 1787 Vienna), and that the more legato passages would be played as you suggest using finger-pedalling.
How’s it coming along? I’m 69! I started studying at 7 and quit at 8. (Though I’m an accomplished singer, so I have been reading music for decades.) Finally got back to piano at 64. Four+ years later, I can play some pretty good Satie and a few other pieces. Enjoying it a lot! I’m going to try this one…
This piece is Level 7 or 8 (I forget which) in the Royal College of Music syllabus. No way is this an easy piece in its entirety, and no way is it a typical "first recital piece" for anyone. That's just a crock. Who do you know that plays Level 7 or 8 pieces for their first recital? There are UA-cam videos of children playing this piece (I'm talking 10 years old or younger), but none of them really play it properly. Watch Daniel Barenboim play it and see how it's really supposed to be played. No child on earth can play it that way. This video is just Lang Lang flexing and being passively condescending. And of course he's sitting at a $175K (or more?) Steinway Grand with action that plays like butter. Don't feel bad, people, if you can't duplicate his playing here or if you didn't master this piece at age 5. No one else has either.

To pronounce the word incorrectly - and look foolish - with a spurious French pronunciation, carry on saying, ‘Sonata fass-eel’; ie you are saying ‘sonata’ in Italian and ‘facile’ in French.

@@AK47_414 I agree he is a cocky individual. He was probably a very precocious child, but this behaviour may have been encouraged as his father is a famous Chinese musician and Lang is, de rigeur, an only child. You are not the first to notice his lack of emotion. He intended to audition for Beijing's Central Conservatory of Music, but, having difficulties with his lessons, was expelled from his piano tutor's studio for "lack of talent". Another music teacher at his state school noticed Lang's sadness, and put the score of Mozart's Piano Sonata No. 10 in C major, K. 330 on the piano; she asked him to play the second movement, which reminded Lang of his love for the instrument. "Playing the K. 330 brought me hope again," he recalled. (from Wikipedia).
