- Governor Gavin Newsom announced the selection of Laphonza Butler - the President of the nation’s largest organization dedicated to electing women, EMILY’s List - to complete the United States Senate term of the late Senator Dianne Feinstein, which runs through 2024.

Just because Butler owns a house in CA is not a qualification for residency. Butler must have lived in CA for 366 days. Butler is not qualified.
You saw some good reporting done on this appointment. Reporters uncovered that Laphonza does not live in California. Reporters also uncovered that LaPhonza isn't registered to vote in California, either, which supports the view she is a Maryland resident .You would have thought Newsom, or somebody on his staff, would have made inquiries regarding wheather or not LaPhonza was registered to vote in California, but they did not (staffers were too swept up in the excitement of this historic pick, apparently.). Newsom picked a resident of Maryland who is completely unqualified to serve as US Senator - who doesn't even vote in California - to be be our US Senator. The harsh criticism you are seeing to this appointment - coming from regular bloggers, who are pointing out how ridiculous this appointment was - tells you how out of touch Gavin Newsom is with regular voters.
The opening speech was clipped and key parts were taken out. She's not even a resident of California. She lives is Maryland and works in D.C.
Lets not kid ourselves, Gavin was told who to appoint.

Rep. Barbara Lee is way more qualified, Toni Atkins 5 times more qualified. All Democratic US House members from California are far more qualified than this lady. This was an ludicrous pick. The African American community in California loses with this pick. If this appointee runs she will lose, she and Lee will split the African American vote. We voters lose because we have a rookie US Senator who doesn't even understand what the job she just got appointed to entails. Appointing her to this job is like hiring an architect to design a 300 million dollar building - who never designed a building before. An insult to those who have legislated for years. This appointee should savor the short time she has in the Senate, voters will be ousting her in a few months if she stupidly decides to run for a job she's not qualified for.

The lady may be very well qualified but by Newsome announcing his intention to appoint a black woman he undermined his own apppointee, and her being hailed as "the first Black lesbian" it just further undermines her abilities no matter what her credentials are because they make it appear that her race and sexuality is the most important criteria.
Identity over merit, African American, gay and maybe woman? Please define!

I WOULD PREFER IF THESE WOKE POLITICIANS JUST LIED TO US. I don't care that she's never held an elected position or that she may not have the most applicable experience, experience has not proven the most useful political attribute, but PLEASE just start announcing that you're going to fill these public servant positions (even a temp position like this) & choose party candidates who are absolutely the best people for the job. Just F'n lie to us. I realize the absolute best person for these various positions could come in any color & might even be gay (we don't give AF) but by announcing & choosing people based on color (& BTW we do know you get double 'woke points' when they're also gay) you are flat out telling us (YOUR EMP's) that you don't give a sh_t who would best serve your constituents, us tax payers. It's criminal enough that 'woke points' have now taken precedence over what best serves our country but the arrogance that they don't even feel the need to lie to those of us that see through this insanity is beyond horrific.
