When I was living in Berkeley in the 1970's, there was a radical political group who posted the same flyer around town just before every election -- "Do NOT vote in the upcoming election because whichever way you vote you'll just be endorsing a phony system." Even radical thinkers like that would be shocked about how true their mantra became in future decades.

facebook executives acknowledged themselves there was no security data breach to cambridge analytica. this story has been available for a year and a half everybody knew it but now media is taking it and twisting it for their retaliation agenda against social media tech giants that took away their precious advertising revenues for 10 years straight while they didn't even take the internet seriously and were warned for 20 years that this would happen. some of the information is real, the narrative is fake.
It looks like they fell for thier own tactics, what a hoot.

Before, I hadn't really understood the idea of a company chasing after money without moral grounds. Sure, I have heard stories of curruption, but they are only stories that entertain imagination and the eyes, but today I finally understand the idea.

Even if you delete Facebook, you're still connected because of how many friends and family have relationships with you. I don't understand how we can move forward with solutions that respect privacy.
That's the problem, you always depend on a central authority that provides a service(like Facebook for connecting with other people) and of course those authorities hold records about you and they can "transfer them" to third parties if they get enough money from that third party. most services that deal with personal data are very centralized and it is up to the discretion of that authority to provide or not your private data to third parties

This reminds me of James Bond movie - Tomorrow never dies - where antagonist is a media baron Elliot Carve basically manufactures news (instead of reporting them) influencing major world power dynamics. In the always connected internet era, it's no wonder that a company like Cambridge Analytica is the bad guy. Information is power and in this case whoever manipulates the information wields that power.
