"Colored" is a term that is still used and in existence in the U.S. Have you ever heard of "National Association for the Advancement of Colored People"? Furthermore, the expression "Person of Color" is interchangeable with "Colored Person." That's the way it has been in the U.S. from past to present. In final, no one is stepping "out of a time warp" by using the term "colored." It would appear to me that someone would be more up in arms with the appellations "Black" and "African American." Those degrading and blanket terms are like nails on a chalkboard every time I hear them.

Based on the comments, many people disagree with her becoming the replacement Senator for Feinstein when she isn’t even a CA resident but a MD resident instead. I think most people are sketched out that she's not a California resident. Sure she lived there for about a decade, but that's not really saying much.
There's also concern that she's just a token DEI pick. I believe before Newsom made his choice, he announced that whoever he chose would be a "black woman", meaning he cared more about his selection's genetics than their actual capability to serve.
