- California Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein, the longest-serving woman to ever serve in the Senate, has died at the age of 90. Feinstein had previously announced plans to retire at the end of this term, sparking an ongoing race to replace her open seat that's been led by California Congressmembers Barbara Lee, Katie Porter and Adam Schiff. California Governor Gavin Newsom has tapped Laphonza Butler, the president of the Democratic pro-abortion organization EMILY's List and a former leader of the California SEIU, as Feinstein's temporary replacement. Butler will become the only Black woman in the Senate and California's first openly LGBTQ+ senator. A lot of people want to see a generational change. Replacing a 90-year-old with a 77-year-old would have been a bit… underwhelming. Going for 44, on the other hand… And it’s not like Newsom hasn’t done this before. Padilla was 47 when appointed to replace Harris.

It’s HUGE that she’s a class traitor and sold out to Uber. Plus, she’s a friend of the vice president and this may be an attempt to appease her so she doesn’t stand in Newsom’s way in 28 and comes back home to replace him as Governor. While I agree with lee’s policies 99% of the time, I feel this is a good way to split the left and make them waste money on someone who is in for a maximum of one term, even if she won by a miracle. Absolutely agree. Katy Porter is a tremendous asset to government and the American people. She's young, smart and a brilliant example of the type of leaders we desperately need. Too many old people in Congress, including 2024 presidential candidates. They wouldn't dare question CEO's with solid proof, leaving them speechless and without answers; Katy effectively shows us CEO's don't deserve multi-million dollar salaries and worse, don't respect or understand working people. It's a disgrace. Term limits are long overdue.

Choosing a candidate based on the color of their skin is unfair to all the other candidates who may be more qualified for the position, and as well favoring people based on their race creates racial hatred among others. Newsom recently said he'd pick a caretaker, letting the already announced candidates fight it out in the 2024 primaries.

Laphonza Butler is a very interesting choice as she has a phenomenal past. Does she have the skills to recognize the very compelling (but insanely harmful) rhetoric (often backed by deceptive stats) spewed by heavily financed lobbyists? We don't need politicians who pass ridiculous, harmful laws such as AETA. We need super sharp people. Let's hope Laphonza can fight for us.

Harassment Gaetz said McCarthy should be removed as Speaker because he didn't vote with "Freedom" Caucus, a vote against the people. This makes her eligible considering the fact that she has owned property in California for over a year, and she officially changed her voter registration to California yesterday.

I like both Schiff and Porter. But Schiff has a big war chest and a longer history in the House, so IMO he has a better chance to win a Primary. It will also hugely tick Trump supporting Republicans off for him to win his bid to run for the Senate so that is great for people in gerrymandered states like mine!
