Rotate Into Your Left Arm And CATAPULT It Off! (Converting Adduction)

- Let's learn to catapult! In this video I walk you through the left arm action in the golf swing, specifically converting adduction.
🔑🌪️ Milo's 5 KEYS to a Rotational Golf Swing: milolinesgolf....
Adduction of the arm is defined as the movement of the arm toward the midline of your body. In the golf swing transition, I like to see the lead arm move in towards the chest slightly more. This change in direction causes the center of mass or club head to then stay back. From here we can rotate back into the ball without coming over the top. Most great players, for example in the Dustin Johnson golf swing have this subtle move in their swing, and I even look at one of the competitors in the recent USGA Adaptive Open as he was an inspiration for this video. I hope you enjoy!

I found this a fantastic tip! I struggle with a shank and apart from significantly enhancing club head compression through the shot, this tip also helped me in connecting with the middle of the club face ( as distinct from the shank of the club)!
Good to hear Richard, thanks for following along and if I can be of further help, please do reach out at milolinesgolf.com.
This has become one of my favorite golf channels. I like the way you talk about different actions, feels, and techniques to swing the club effectively and acknowledge there are a variety of ways to do it while maintaining certain things in common. I watched the video about swinging from an inside backswing to a slotted downswing, which feels good to me. Thanks
Thanks so much for following along John!
Just worked on this today on the range. It gave me absolute clarity about rotation and a body driven swing. I am left handed playing golf right handed and it felt so natural to “tow” the club and generate effortless speed. Video showed me getting into a great impact position though it didn’t feel like impact or hitting at all just a great free flowing motion. Thank you so much.
Fantastic!
This is by a mile the most helpful golf channel I've ever come across. These explanations just make sense to me. New sub right here
Welcome aboard Andrew, thanks for the follow!
To me one of the best channel to learn things about golf.
Kudos to you and yr team Milo.
Hugs from Italy.
Thanks so much Andrea!
Hi Milo enjoyed this tremendously
At age 76 I now understand the physics behind ground force reaction is that a golfer need only think of planting their feet on the ground as it is the ground force reaction that turns their body and lifts their trail heel off the ground and not the action of the golfer lifting their trail foot off the ground at the end of their swing.
Remember we all only have one chance to get it right unless we are relatives Mr Mulligan.
So I do a little wiggle waggle with my belly button to wake up my oblique and stomach muscles. Pause. And then to get correctly into my golf posture i place my lead elbow initially pressing at the point down across my chest. I then simply start my back swing with my belly button turning approximately 4 inches along with my lead elbow laterally following as my hands, arms, shoulders, hips, and knees will respond winding my body up to the point it has no other choice but to shift and turn my body left. It is through the physics of parametric acceleration that I trust my club head will be then going directly through my ball post impact of which the momentum of my club head with ground reaction force will stand my body up at the end of my swing. Cheers 👍😃⛳️🥂 PS on a previous video i wrote trail elbow i meant to write lead elbow
I tried this piece at the Range on Sunday and omg it absolutely works the best i hit it all year and now its time to take it to the course thanks a million Milo 💯💯💯💯
Love it
Great video, I’ll be buying one in about 5 years when the solutions have been provided based on all the wonderful people like you that give us the skinny! Thanks
Great video, ive been banging on about for years,my best iron strikes i rotate into my left arm and my longest drives i fling the Frisbee, unfortunately this only happens on good days! which i put down to poor sequencing and lack of talent.
Keep it up
Nice surprise getting a good Milo video first thing Monday morning. Thanks!
Morning! Thanks for watching Allan
Never seen this explained before Milo, good one mate.
Thanks for watching!
Been working on this myself, will do this, I also think of it as waiting to feel the left delt stretch before letting the arms go.
this is pure gold here. you just earned my sub. thanks for the video!
Thanks for the sub Mike!
That rolling shade contraption is a genius invention, would love to see more of those on ranges.
No need in Scotland !!
🙌
Haha
Well, we need in Canada to keep the snow off the the teeing ground. 🥶🇨🇦
Being right-handed but playing golf left-handed, I sometimes wonder if instructors don't address hand dominance in the golf swing. How it affects what golfers do or should do.
That is definitely something I think about and sometimes adaptations need to be made for my students.
Absolutely loving your content .Excellent Thanks
Glad to hear it!
Great tip. It takes lots of practice
Anything in this game takes time to master, agreed.
Thanks Milo. I’m a lefty and happen to throw frisbee right handed, glad to hear you mention that. When throwing the club down and out into the range would you want a straight throw? Slightly left or right?
Great question! Also, would you want to be throwing the frisbee up to go higher, or level to the ground?
I find if I absolutely “know” where my body positions are supposed to be, I can get there with much more speed.
Always great input.
Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Milo Thanks for your job, my best ball speed are obtained with this type of swing with the left arm but It s difficult sometimes to have an inert right hand, even if my right arm is relaxed my right hand tighten the grip during hitting as a reflex and close the face , do you have an advice to keep right hand and arm as passive as possible following the left arm movement. Thanks a lot
Phil
Hmm, can depend on a few factors and perhaps that you are needing to power or tense up for other reasons. I'd have to see your swing to offer the best possible feedback. Have you looked into joining my online academy at or working with me at milolinesgolf.com?
Great video Milo
Thank you
Great drill and great picture of that golfer. I must be doing set wrong with my left arm at address, I feel almost a hyper extension in my left elbow post impact, maybe I am too locked out.. in your follow thru, your arm doesn’t bend, but the inside of your elbow looks to be point up.
Sounds like a lot of tension at setup and perhaps your left hand grip is too weak.
@@MiloLinesGolf yes sir relaxed left arm did the trick. I didn’t change my grip, as I am happy with flight/direction.
Hope you can do a video on integrating the right hand into this drill

Milo - do you have a 3D graph showing whether your left forearm is actually supinating from P6-P7.5?
Great, concise, informative video. Looking forward to more of the same.
Glad you enjoyed it Bill, thanks for watching!
Milo - great video. How are you able to handle the Arizona heat in the summer? I was down there last August and just about died.
Haha it is hot! I do go to Utah for about a month to escape, but the shade screen does also help for the summer months.
Great advice!!!❤
Thanks for watching!
Like said by somebody else .... great, concise, informative video. Thanks.
🙏
The course I practice at has frisbee golf course too. Helluva a good way to drill.
I've thought about adding some lead tape to a frisbee for training.
What swing weight you going for? haha
@@MiloLinesGolf 😉
Thanks Milo
You bet, Roger!
awesome. i feel this when i hit one good.
what body part starts the backswing or takeaway, Thanks!
Pressure shift and turn of chest
i'm lefthanded golfing right and have swung like that before with a lot of good but can't always keep it going. i have to make sure i rotate the hands to square the club or it will be open.
Sounds like your grip is pretty weak? I don't feel like I have to square it all.
There's a one armed member at my club ,he hits it pure and long ,I try and hold my shoulders and hips back until clubs past my right leg in downswing and then throw the club ,
Is the club releasing shallow and around the body or knuckle dragging over the top of ball???
Hmm, maybe this can provide some clarity. As always, it depends on matchups as well: ua-cam.com/video/2UG7_n2tHmE/v-deo.html
Basically it seems like your body drags your arms in the back swing and downswing?
@@stevenrichardson7766 I wouldn’t say it drags the but it does load them
When you're swinging with just your left arm, what's important to focus on for shallowing the club? Almost every video I see on shallowing focuses on the position of the right arm.
ua-cam.com/video/mJDyS4HkRHI/v-deo.html check this one out
I have a question I hope you can help me out with. I’ve tried multiple swings and I’ve had decent success but with every one of them I will hit behind the ball 70 percent of the time or push the ball right. And me trying to correct that has made me come over the top more now. I’ve also taken a lot of ground up in my swings. I can pure most short degree pw, 9 Irons until I get to my 8 iron up I’m hitting everything fat. I don’t keep my weight back but the radius of my left shoulder is causing me to hit behind the ball. How do I get my shoulders square at impact or move my left shoulder up in a way that I can hit the ball solid and not thin it by lifting because I’m scared of hitting the ground so hard? Is there a video that can help me with that feeling? Thank you.
Jordan, for me to give you the best feedback I'd really need to see your swing. Have you looked into our online academy? milolinesgolf.com
Great. What swing speed would you think left arm "should" be able to produce vs right arm (one arm swings)? For RH golfer. Edit: From a RH stance that is, left arm only vs right arm only.
Ideally one handed swings with either arm will be around 75% of typical 2 handed swings, but I wouldn’t practice much at that effort level
@@MiloLinesGolf Ok, thanks. As RH, my left handed "backhand"-swing isn't anywhere near my right arm swing. My right arm alone is almost 90% of my two-arm swing. So probably very dominant in my right arm.
I watched a channel called "Athletic motion golf". They have a lot of GEARS data on good players and they say measurements of the best players of the world show the left arm only travels a couple degrees across the chest from address to impact. Very minimal. Does this slingshot off the chest run counter to that or is the measurement being taken on GEARS different? I can find the video to link if you had a question about what Im asking..
No it’s in line we have 2 arms on so the degree of freedom to sling off is somewhat restricted also we want to get energy into the club head which requires the hands to slow down at some point
@@MiloLinesGolf Thanks! So many times I struggle with taking a simple piece of advice way too literally and that creates a misunderstanding of the message. I also over analyze everything:).
No turn cast drill works like a charm here.
Cool
I have a couple of friends who are left handed who play golf right handed really well. Could this be why?
BTW: I think Mr. Hogan was left handed!
I've seen a lot of people do that one drill at top golf where you throw the club. They all must have seen some of your videos on that drill. 😂
Ha
i watched this two days ago and there was sound. ive tried on my phone and pc and now no sound
It’s playing through the channel only make sure you have both ear buds in.
If I look at Rory slow, it looks like his left arm is moving toward the target, even from the top it starts. He must be activating his lats to pull the left arm down.
In 3d Rory gains lead arm addiction for quite a few frames in the downswing before it slings down and out
Hi Milo, I tried the "one hand throw" drill (2:54) and unfortunately killed our neighbors cat. Do you have a similar drill that is less dangerous? Thanks for your work
Hahahaha!
Trying like hell to stop arms taking off too soon.
You reminded me of a video where Paige Pierce explains how to throw a disc in disc golf. The level of detail and the feel is similar to some of the points that you touch on. ua-cam.com/video/TyV8411dObw/v-deo.html
Bingo
Paige says to shift, not rotate.
I always communicate to shift and land prior to unwinding.
Similar to Chargol golf concept...
Hmm never heard of sorry
Turn to stereo on your mic; its been like that for a while. lol
We got it figured out now these videos were all filmed a while ago. The new stuff coming up will have this fixed
Hard to see you being in the shade.
Hard to film in the sun when it was 100+ degrees 😂 🥵
@@MiloLinesGolf OK. Just wanted to make you aware. Great video lesson. Thank you.
I have no audio
Hmm, could be headphones? We’ve noticed audio sometimes only goes in one side on old videos, we have this fixed now.
@@MiloLinesGolf yes, it must be the headphones. I took them off the video produced audio. Sorry I should have deleted my comment.
No, we appreciate all forms of feedback! Thank you
