Three years later Steve and I still go back to your swing mechanics…..Thank you and Mike Austin and always back to your videos to get my swing and fundamentals back…As many golfers knows it’s very easy to get off track…
Randomly found this video. It has seriously helped me more than any other video. I am 47, started golf 3 years ago, following this video changed everything for me.
I have watched hundreds of videos on the golf swing and these tricks not only simplify, but provide the most consistent swing I have ever experienced in one video. Excellent teaching Steve!
Excellent video Steve!! I tried this out at the range yesterday and I cannot believe how much further and straighter my drives were. The feeling of contact was so much more solid and actually felt effortless!! Thanks for the tip!!
This was the most impactful explanation of what to do with the left arm I've ever seen. I took this to the range the day I watched it, after doing a little mirror work to reinforce it. Ball was dead center of the face, flight was dead center. Amazing! Great explanation! Distance, control, all automatic.
I have watched a lot of these Steve Pratt videos and I was doing better, but I was still pushing drives to the right. I started doing the pec grab that he was describing here and it straightened out my drives. I could not believe it. I just tried it for the first time today when I was warming up to play. I then started using the method on the course and what a difference. I hit multiple drives over 260 yards and one of them was a roll out to 300 yards. The best thing about it, was that I was able to do it consistently and I did not feel like I was trying any harder than I was before. The golf season in Ohio is almost over, but this is now my new normal. I am going to be practicing this all winter in my garage. Great lesson, and that was a fun day of golf. Wish it worked for putting.
Major props, Steve, and I can't say enough about this particular vid, folks. (My comment is made from the perspective of a right handed golfer). The inner bicep 'glued' to the left pec '7' position throughout the swing is (in my humble opinion) THEE most important aspect of the golf swing in that then (and ONLY then) will aspiring golfers begin to understand how the body is the hub of the motion we call, "the golf swing." Except for the last split second release of the wrists, they can now see AND understand how the body hits the ball, thanks to this very well thought-out video. The only thing I've added to my swing (which I don't recommend to anyone new to the game until they've diligently practiced your lesson here) is that my recoiling starts when I push off with the instep of my right foot which forces my mass onto my left side WHILST my body (and the 'lucky 7' connection) rotate through the impact area. For me, this is a simultaneous move, adding a bit more speed to my rotating mass which then transfers into the ball, hence compressing the golf ball much more than by starting the transition to the left side with the hips, or shifting our weight to the left side via 'the bump,' as it is sometimes called. Pushing off with the right foot onto the left side is in fact executing a golf swing 'from the ground - up.' Other 'absolutes' for those who are not yet aware: 1. Your tilted spine angle at address MUST BE MAINTAINED THROUGHOUT THE SWING. 2. You should see yourself looking down at where the golf ball was at address AFTER you've first struck the ball, and your head should be rolling sideways (right cheek parallel to the ground) as you watch your golf ball take off, much like you are forced to do when skipping stones across water. Why? Well for one, this will keep you from 'standing up on the shot'...a habit that results in a wayward left flight and/or a hook. 3. Film yourself often to see a sobering review of what you're doing...not what you THINK you're doing. Watching your swing frame by frame is of tremendous benefit. I've enjoyed Mike Austin's method for years, even to the point of keeping my club face square throughout the swing. Again, great video lesson here, Steve. This lesson alone will fix an array of bad habits for countless golfers. Keep up the great work, bud. - a fellow 'Steve.'
I’ve got to tell you, sir: I’ve never heard someone so completely and clearly explain the fundamentals of a great driver swing. I’ve watched a million videos and gotten a lot of in person advice, only ever hitting 280-300 accidentally really. Watching this one video has cleared up so much that I wasn’t quite getting right. Thank you so much.

Besides the late Dan Shauger and Mike Dunaway, Steve is also a major proponent of the true and powerful techniques that are the epitome of the legendary Mike Austin's golf swing method. Took some of Steve's tips to the driving range the other day and they "worked like a charm for me".
One of the most simple but best golf swing training video! Tomorrow on way home i stop by the driving range. Just got a M1 driver...! Thank very much. I subscribed
Ive seen this video b4 and skipped by it . Tonite im sooo glad i took time to watch it . Perfect info Steve . i used to do this , fell away from golf , got back and was so frustrated that i couldnt hit the way i used to .This my missing link .Thankyou sir thankyou.
I’ve been searching and struggling with the driver for quite some time now. I’ve taken lessons and tried many different swing thoughts but, nothing would stick. Then, I tried this swing, I couldn’t believe my own eyes by how far and straighter my shots were. Thank you so much. My game is now complete.
Really exciting to watch. Even a moron like me got your message. Your lesson was captivating. Gave me the confidence and eagerness to practice this in the nets like… right away!
This is such an important video. This action of the left arm is conceptually the opposite of what most of us have been taught to do. I have even studied the Golf Machine for several years and have tried to actively get the left arm to ""blast off the chest" ( release of Power Accumulator #4) - and it has just resulted in a feeling of a lot of effort with very little result. Played 9 holes tonight trying to feel this and when I did it well the results were great - lots of distance and it felt so easy just having the left arm be passive, and the power coming from the pivot and the wrists/hands.
Steve- used your arm pin technique in today's round and hit it better and more consistently than I have in 2 years. Repeatable and easy. It was fun chasing fairways and pins all day. Thanks and all the best!
This Steve's Pec Grab saved my day! It gets me back to hitting long again! I am 60 now and have lost the lower body leading the down swing and pulling the arms through. Especially the recent years due to varies miner injuries I've changed my swing so much just to get by so that I can get on the course. The result is I've lost my swing and hard to back to hitting solid and long. Tried all kinds of suggestions from online and friends with no prevail. Even tried once Steve's leading arm pec'ed first but did not stick to it long enough. This time I see obvious result - drives passing my playing partners 40-50 yards! Solid and much longer on my irons, too! Another reason I see this methods works particularly well is that I pay golf, and anything with two hands hockey (used to play in college), baseball, etc...left-handed, while anything with one hand right-handed. Actually my right arm is stronger than the left. I've been thinking to develop a swing leveraging my stronger leading/right arm, looks that I've found it! Im going to stick to it and make my swing more efficient. I believed it'll be more consistent, and even longer! Thank you so much, Steve Pratt, for this technique. Im writing this comment is for anyone out there maybe in a similar situation to be able to benefit from Steve's swing tip and to enjoy this game more! All says golf is a frustrating game, but you'd feel so exited and rewarding when hitting them solid and long! And Im sure falling of score will soon follow! Harry
Steve, You have unlocked something that has prevented me from taking my game to the next level; the inability to drive the ball with power. Although I am 70 years old (9 handicap) and can hit a 7 iron 150 yards I have averaged about 200 yards off the tee. It is not a matter of strength but technique and I have tried almost anything and everything. Your very basic move of pinning the lead arm to the pec model (something that I have never heard from any other pro!), along with the lead hip bump got me excited about getting back to the golf course, pronto. Result from today (9 holes only): tee shots 20-30 yards longer, still a slight fade with 2 bogies, 5 pars, and 2 birdies. Even par. You have a fan and student for life, and I will certainly be recommending you to my friends and family members.
I’m late to the party here but this was amazing Steve (Steve also here). I always loved the shirt tuck into armpit drill feel and I think your explanation here is exactly why I like it. I never found anyone who did it with driver until now…well done
Update, worked on the techniques in your video at the range. This swing added 10-20 yards to my clubs and is much easier to hit consistently. The next 2 times I played golf with my buddies, I shot in the mid 80’s with 0 penalty strokes. Prior to that I wasn’t even pulling out my driver at times because of the fear of going OB. Thanks for making golf much more fun again!
Ok I think I’m a bit thick, but I had to watch this three times to get it, for many years I’ve been using the left arm to make my hit and obviously no good results. Now I know why my short irons were good shots because I locked that left arm in. I realized I need to do that with all my clubs. 💡 can’t wait to put this to the test. Thank you.
Hi Steve, you are the best instructor in the world. I have played golf for 5 years with 5 handicapper. I watched tons of youtube and took lesson from a lot of instructor but i am so sure you are the best. number 1 instructor in the world. I have a confusing part. When you throw or release, do you add ulnar deviation? sometimes it makes my wrist extension in the follow thru. if i dont add ulnar deviation, my wrist naturally rotate. I am not sure which one is correct.
@@Inmotion70 It was even more helpful when I was at the range today. I'm recovering from a pretty major injury (broken leg) and I was hitting my drives and irons as far as I was before the injury but with less effort.
This really works. Focus on keeping arms completely relaxed. I’ve added at least 15 more yards to my drives according to the track tracer at the range. Going to keep working on it over the winter.
Steve, thank you so much for this video. I have been struggling off the tee this past season. This drill, particularly pinning my left arm as instructed has me hitting it straight and consistently much longer. Its such a simple fix and truly caused a head slapping moment.
I'm still amazed at the left foot movement in your swing. You get the benefit of two different front foot positions; one just slightly open for the backswing and then you pick up and reposition the foot (and downswing pivot axis) closer to your CG to get you stacked up sooner without any slide and open the foot out to free the hips for the hit. You once told me you had an injury that caused this, but I think you've invented a better way!
I'm 70 Years old and have been struggling with my drive for the past several years. I played yesterday with the Pec grab and Figure 7. I outdrove my buddies for the first time. Straight and long. I love it. They kept saying "you are really turning through the ball today". I wasn't thinking of that I guess it just happened. I'm going to study up on the other video of hip moving an inch to target to better square the shoulders next time. Thanks Steve.
This video has helped me make great contact and has stopped my cutting across the ball with my face open as well as put me at the right distance from the ball at set up. just watched it again and still have a couple of missing parts I can work on. thanks
I did the swing but was to early and the results were awesome . So can't wait to try it with the better swing next time , as it had great power development and I was still not doing it right , lol. Great explanations and love your teaching skills. It's just your working with guys that don't have the full picture all the time. Love it.
Finally a video that shows me how I can take advantage of being lefthanded with a right hand golf swing, too bad I'm 72 not 22, but I'll take it, that drill is so easy for me. IT WORKS!!!!! 😁👍👍👍👍
From your very accurate and useful clips, its clear that one of the most important things in golf swing is the finish. A correct finish means a correct trajectory of the golf club through the impact. Do you suggest to practice a lot the turn over and fold of the left arm? Thanks
Look forward to trying this, it could be what I need. I can not seem to get good impact with my irons, I have the same swoosh tool. Will do the drill and go to range and then play and let you know. Thanks for sharing..
Very nice explanation on how to use the left arm's centrifugal force for a longer driven golf ball. Thanks a lot! I will try to apply this in my golf swings..Regards
It is very helpful to swing my arms and throw my club head , ( not sway or pull arms , making lots of weak shot and no fun for the result.) Thank you. 很有幫助的教學。 Good~
Incredible information. These are the things that coaches fail to share. The arms reconnecting to the chest is essentially acting as a pivot point at the connection point. As your body pivots, so much your arms. Thank you so much.
I have been playing golf for 67 years and for the first time understand the pull vs the push or throw of the left arm. I played and practiced with both concepts. Thanks for clearing it up. Would you apply the same concept for chipping and pitching?
Steve this is starting to make more sense to me regarding generating speed far better than a pulling action. Side note: I now know where I have heard your voice before -- Burl Ives.
Steve, great videos, many thanks. Have been applying the ideas as best as possible. 64, now retired, athletic ( qb, pitcher, hockey, frisbee, etc ) ; but seemed to have topped out at driver ball speed of 155. Not disappointed with 270+ ; but won't be seeing 300 without a big tailwind !! cheers
This was one of the moves that took my striking to a new level. A pitfall to be aware of when trying to execute this move is hanging back too much with the upper body and spinning the 7 out. Remember to feel a nice lateral shift back to your lead side before you start down and then arrive with the 7 through the ball.
So well explain, it’s make so much sense forcing us so much to use our body in the turn and how the arms should behave to not initiate the downswing. 👍
Steve, thanks! This is really good. It's understandable. Can't wait to go work on it. As a 67 year old, my driver clubhead speed is about 91 and smash factor about 1.5. Get a total drive length of about 235 when everything is right. Would like to turn that into 265 yds. Can't wait to go work on this! Will give you an update in a few weeks.
Right on! At 91 mph you should be able to peak out at 255-260. So something is missing. Time to explore your attack angle, spin rate, and launch angle.
I'm reading through all of the comments to find the answer to this simple question. It would have taken a few seconds to have said in the video "all of this works for your irons too." Honestly, I don't see why it wouldn't. A few people have commented that it does work with irons. One comment on particular mentioned this explains why his short irons are always so good, "that lead arm stays locked in the #7 configuration."
It seems to work great for you hitting a 323 yard drive. Thanks Steve. The tip you give about where and how to place your left arm sounds great. I do find myself having to many moving parts in my swing this should help me stay connected I’ve been told you have to keep your right elbow closer to your body as well. Does that make sense. And I have a difficult time hitting my drive 250 years and consistent. I’m 70 years old so it is frustrating that I have lost it.
Remarkably efficient with effortless squaring of the clubface at impact. Excellent carry over to chipping and a key to staying connected with the putting stroke. I feel like I'm going to get a bill for this incredible lesson.
Steve really enjoying your videos. The key insight I’ve gained from your demonstrations is that your hips and lower body are VERY active while you maintain your body angles. So much so that your left foot re-positions on most of your swings. Is this intended or just a consequence of the forces you are generating?
Three years later Steve and I still go back to your swing mechanics…..Thank you and Mike Austin and always back to your videos to get my swing and fundamentals back…As many golfers knows it’s very easy to get off track…

Fantastic. I've be playing for 52 years and this is the first time I understood the correct swing. Fantastic!
Great to hear!
Wow Steve! I’m 70 years old and have always pulled with my left arm. Can’t wait to try this on the driving range!
I am 58 years old. Why did it take me 30 years of golf to first hear about the "Maintain The Figure 7" concept. My gosh! Thank you!
So many are teaching the opposite!

Cheers Jimmy! When can I expect the check to come in the mail? ;)
An excellent explanation in how to create club head speed by throwing the club head.

Wow wow wow Steve! Even Par! You had a shot at shooting your age! Big congrats and thanks for watching. Cheers!
I took these concepts to the course and improved immediately. Same for irons?
Still watching this vid right before I play or during a range session. Great stuff man!
Probably one of the best explanations of the correct connection required between the left arm and torso to produce power & consistency. Bravo Steve.
After watching this video, my handicap has come down to 10 from 20. Thanks a million!
Absolutely life changing. Blistering the ball now.

Yes there must be ulnar deviation to both uncock the wrists from the top and make the club reach the turf.
Thank you Mr. Pratt. This video/explanation of the left arm action is truly profound. I've been struggling with this. Not anymore. Thank you sir!
This was one of the best explanations on the left arm that I've seen. I really appreciate the video.
Glad it was helpful!
@@Inmotion70 It was even more helpful when I was at the range today. I'm recovering from a pretty major injury (broken leg) and I was hitting my drives and irons as far as I was before the injury but with less effort.

A great demo to accelerate thru the ball.
This video has helped me make great contact and has stopped my cutting across the ball with my face open as well as put me at the right distance from the ball at set up. just watched it again and still have a couple of missing parts I can work on. thanks
Awesome Steve. It is always amazing when the swing gets broken down into what is actually happening. Thanks again. Eric
Super lesson. Very practical explanation of how to get more power with less ‘hitting’ motion.
I did the swing but was to early and the results were awesome . So can't wait to try it with the better swing next time , as it had great power development and I was still not doing it right , lol.

Your right and left arm videos are great! Thank you.
Super video. Exactly whatI have not been doing! thanks Steve.
Look forward to trying this, it could be what I need. I can not seem to get good impact with my irons, I have the same swoosh tool. Will do the drill and go to range and then play and let you know. Thanks for sharing..
Keep us updated!
Hi Steve. I'm a very beginner. This helped a lot to solve few issues I had. Good work. Keep it up. Cheers.
Cheers Ravin!
This has helped me i was not keeping the . Figure 7.
I was pulling arms. Not driving them with my body rotation
Very comprehensive video ever seen, can't wait to try it in range! Thanks 👍
Super video. Well explained and makes perfect sense. Will definitely try to work on this. Many thanks
Cheers Richard!
很有幫助的教學。 Good~
Cheers Temp!
Best lesson in decades...and i am a solid 6 index
Absolutely fantastic demonstration and explanation. Thank you.
Cheers!
Info starts at 1:30.
As usual, Steve can demonstrate Mike Austin’s swing in a way a person can understand. Thank you!
Fantastic explanation, will try it out .tks
Thx, great vid. The feel of throwing the club out is very different.
The best explanation ever! Thanks a lot!!!
Cheers Fernando!
One of the best tips I have ever seen.. . Thank you, thank you, thank you
What a great demonstration of the swing. I’m off to the range tonight. Thanks Steve!
Kind words Francis! Cheers!
Harris English was performing that exact pre- shot drill during the Travelers Championship which he won after winning the 9th playoff hole.
Steve, great videos, many thanks.
Have been applying the ideas as best as possible. 64, now retired, athletic ( qb, pitcher, hockey, frisbee, etc ) ; but seemed to have topped out at driver ball speed of 155. Not disappointed with 270+ ; but won't be seeing 300 without a big tailwind !! cheers
This is amazing. Possibly the most clear advise I have heard. Thank you
This was one of the moves that took my striking to a new level.
Totally Awesome training... never seen anything like this before...but it works ...wow!!!
Steve you are amazing. I wish you were our pro on my course
Well thanks Stuart! I will fill out an application today.
Hi Steve, that's the first time I've seen the Seven theory explained in the downswing, lightbulb moment for me.
Thanks
I'm definitely going to try this.
Excellent video can I also do this with my irons as well?
I'm reading through all of the comments to find the answer to this simple question.
It would have taken a few seconds to have said in the video "all of this works for your irons too."
Honestly, I don't see why it wouldn't.
A few people have commented that it does work with irons. One comment on particular mentioned this explains why his short irons are always so good, "that lead arm stays locked in the #7 configuration."
Excellent video, easy to visualize
I tried this out today. Great distance and impact. Fantastic work Steve.
Cheers!
250 is pretty darn good for 70. Make sure you don't pack the right elbow at the top of the swing!
Great explanation 🏌️♀️
I like this and it works well. I didn’t see any increase in distance but more accuracy.
Great video Steve!!
Remarkably efficient with effortless squaring of the clubface at impact. Excellent carry over to chipping and a key to staying connected with the putting stroke. I feel like I'm going to get a bill for this incredible lesson.
Great news! And your bill is in the mail. ;)
Excellent! Couldn't be more clear. One step at a time. Thanks much!
Steve really enjoying your videos. The key insight I’ve gained from your demonstrations is that your hips and lower body are VERY active while you maintain your body angles. So much so that your left foot re-positions on most of your swings. Is this intended or just a consequence of the forces you are generating?
Unintended peccadillo. Cheers!
Good explanation . Work well for me . He points out the detail . Thank you Steve.
