This instruction is literal golf gold. And this presentation hit it out of the park. It is the actual holy grail. It's everything that matters. And i sincerely think there must be some kind of pga conspiracy to keep us from knowing about it, because all other instruction is practically worthless unless you drop those hands straight down in the downswing. Ok, maybe not completely worthless, but what i mean is that 99 percent of the instruction that the golf community obsesses over is such an unbelivable waste of time at best, and at worst completely detrimental to developing this absolutely fundamental and simple skill. I learned this move much later in my amateur career than i would've liked (the source of my emphasis) but i can attest that you can do all kinds of other things "wrong", yknow all those things that the golf community obsesses over above all else, BUT as long as your main thought is to drop those hands all those other things just fall right in line for effortless contact all day long. Am i exaggerating even a little bit?? No.

I'm 77 years old and in my younger days played to a 2 handicap. Twenty years ago I was hit by a vehicle that ran a stop sign and T-boned me on my motorcycle, shattering my leg and rupturing discs in my neck and lower back. ER doc did an amazing job of putting my leg back together, but the back problems caused unbearable pain whenever I swung the golf club. To this day I haven't hit a golf ball in 20 years. I just started swinging the club again with a little discomfort but not the excruciating pain I experienced after the accident. Early on I patterned my swing after Fred Couples and have been trying to groove that swing in my living room, since we've been experiencing severe inclement weather. I saw this video and began to work through the exercises (without hitting a ball, obviously) and feel that my swing is improving because of it. Hopefully I will be able to take this out to the range in a couple of weeks and start grooving my swing. If my back holds up my goal is to shoot my age on a full-length 18-hole course. I'll let you know.

This concept is as good as it gets. For a long time I have tried many different swing ideas with varying results but none felt easy or comfortable. I either gained distance but lost accuracy or visa versa but something always felt manufactured and good contact was random. This concept gives the feeling of swinging easy gaining accuracy and distance just by letting it happen. In addition my balance in the follow through is unbelievable. Thanks Giles keep up the good work

This is legit. Perhaps the best simplification and explanation of the golf swing here. 🎉
What I personally feel is that I’m throwing the club behind me as far as possible. Obviously that makes zero sense but it works for me. It gets my club on plane since I’m rotating the body too. But it just lets you rip it as hard as you want because the plane is stabilized.
I think by trying to use my right hand more and throw behind me it keeps my wrist angles even more. Again. Counterintuitive but it works.

Other than that. Go to the range and practice this drill. Get a good feel for it. For me I took it one step further to feel like I was trying to throw the club away from the target (like right leg side, not behind). It starts the momentum down and hands in front of chest, and your turn gets the club back to square

I recall a clinic once where Tom Watson said....here's the secret to the golf swing.
He then lifted his arms straight up, like a bird's wings, and just let his arms drop, with gravity, right back to his sides.
Your video ..Excellent for a number of reasons, especially
    ... Arms drop
    ... DONT tuck elbow in
... Arms NOT responsible for arms going out. That's ROTATION.
... Deconstructing the movements a bit into their component parts.
    VERY Well done.

@gilesgillgolf I am a senior who picked up the game of golf within the past year. I have worked with two pga pros and manage to practice at least three times a week. This video is the single most helpful instruction I’ve received to date.
I’ve struggled with swinging over the top. With your help I’ve found a way to drop my hands and straighten my right arm. I’ve found more length with an easier swing.
Great stuff. Thank you. Keep them coming.

This is such a good video. This is exactly what I am currently working on and have been confused with some of the moves by other people when in reality, it is these 2 moves. Then it is the case of matching these up with your shift in weight. Makes a consistent swing and what seems at times like effortless power. ⛳️

THANK YOU! Never heard the swing explained in this manner before where the hands and arms only move vertically. Have spent the last 35 years swinging them towards the ball and target or trying to move them into certain positions during the swing. This SIMPLE concept is a game changer. It's actually made my swing almost effortless. Can't thank you enough. Your explanations and delivery are perfect and simple to understand.

Great stuff! This is exactly what I've been working on recently as my hands have a tendency to get too far out and away from my body on the backswing and downswing. My new swing thought has been, "laces, pocket, turn" to get the hands where they need to be.
