Great video for us seniors. Turning 70 this month. At the end of your video, you mentioned rolling the hands, tow up, or toe down, not so much. I frequent a public driving range couple of times a week. I see many beginner golfers. I hit the ball decent for my age. I see people struggling trying to even hit the ball. Most are swinging pretty bad. Shoulders are level, over the top swings, fat, and thin shots. I’ve found if I can get then to get their weight on their lead foot, swing the trail arm under their lead arm, and keep their arms connected, it’s like night and day. I have so many coming up to me for help. I figure this is my way of giving back to a game that even us 70 year olds can still enjoy… Your videos are great, and my thinking has always been, what we share increases, and what we withhold diminishes. Thanks for what you do Giles.. Your time and effort that you share, is helping many in my area, because I pass it on to others.
Thank you Ron! It’s great to see you helping people get into the game and sharing you me experiences! Thank you passing my videos on and I hope they help!
I have watched hundreds of UA-cam videos related to golf training. This video is the best I have seen. Giles, at only 26 yo is way mature beyond his years. The video is very well designed and Giles does an excellent job of communicating. Well done!

Great video. New subscriber. Just retired the Dec 31. As a lifelong occasional golfer, I am now playing once a week. I had and a hip replaced in 2017, and a shoulder and knee replaced in 2021. To say that my swing has changed is an understatement. I updated my sticks to senior graphite shafts including a 7 and 9 wood for my long irons. Your video has confirmed what I have had to do. More rotation. Thanks for the lesson. I appreciate it so much.
A great great explanation of the complete sequence of body positions and biomechanics. It explains the great positions that all the very top players get into. I used to throw the discus as a young guy! The weight transfer position is so so similar, unbelievable. I also found the "toe up" and underhand comments through the hitting zone illuminating. This video answers a lot of questions. Well done you, a very good communicator sir.
Brilliant instruction Giles! Wisdom in instruction far beyond your years…Perhaps the best and most comprehensive golf video I’ve ever studied! Thank You!!!
Great video for any golfer, not just seniors (which I am). This is a complete lesson from A to Z, not just a couple of tips or segments. So much info it leaves one a bit breathless. But well done, you have packed into 35 minutes everything one would need to know to start playing golf or to improve one's play. Great job.
As a senior golfer I see these steps, as you describe them, being paramount to developing a productive golf swing. A swing that took me years to develop tru years of frustrating trial and error. Your instruction was outstanding. Consider me a subscriber!
The first part of the video on the grip changed my game. After a few days of practice at the range and on the course I'm hitting the ball more solid and farther, the sound is different too. Dropped several strokes per round now and getting close to breaking 80! Best golf video I've ever watched. Thank you!
THANK YOU FOR AN EXCELLENT ,VERY THOROUGH & HELPFUL VIDEO. I was very impressed & intend to watch it several times & make brief notes. I have subscribed & look forward to receiving other videos. Your advice was clear & easy to follow & I have made a copy of it. You gave several clear, easy to do drills which should help many golfers. It is valuable to have all the information on one video. Renewed thanks from an 80 year old , 26 handicap golfer , who is adjusting to driving 160 yards rather than 220 yards ten years ago.
Wow….brilliant, one of the most comprehensive and explicit videos. This is the gold, no wait platinum standard of combined Technique and drills instructions. Can’t wait to use. Thank you so much.
The description of the grip was the clearest I have come across. I followed the instruction when I played recently and it made my ball striking so much more consistent. I also hadn't realised before that if you have the correct grip it helps with the shoulder turn. Weight favouring left, keep your left eye on the ball and a good grip. Excellent stuff. Thank you.
Hello Giles . Terrific video refresher for me even at 61 yrs with arthritis ( clubs regripped to suit ) off 11 hc just felt not quite there holding it although my ball flight from 8.5 degree driver still flies 267 mtr upon landing ( driving range graphic technologies)with extra roll depnds on fairway conditions , , playing partners one day just said it! Omg pops , you've finally lost the strength and elasticity in your rotation 🤦♂️ i was devastated to have heard that , on the forth hole great sledge lol. after now watching this I feel i can get back to the 300's plus again , back to cutting corners over trees 5 mtrs higher for clearance again , going to range to try right foot back by small incremental change, i can get my distance of metreage of the club im use too. And not be confused in club choice ,,,,, full 5 stars ✨️ in your video sir , and thanks for prep talk . With kindest regards Andy 👍
Hi Andy, glad the video helped and you're feeling inspired! Small adjustments can definitely make a big difference. Best of luck at the range, and thanks for the 5-star review!
Aside from mini-golf and the occasional TopGolf event, I never played full golf. Your explaination just "clicks" with the way I like to learn. I studied this ahead of a 3hr Top Golf party, and not only did I move from "hot garbage" to "not good"; I could consistently get clean hits on the ball, it didnt feel awkward, and I walked away without the expected knee and back pain. I had a great time thanks to this video. I actually feel like I could learn the actual sport. Definitely going to continue practicing with your channel.
Thank you Giles. I'm in my seventies and just recovering from a broken ankle. Weight distribution and to some extent the associated "balance" are a problem however your "bite sized chunks approach" is helping me get a better understanding - in my earlier years I played off 2 so I do understand your targeted approach I really cannot fault your enthusiasm and technical ability! Well done and I hope I can report in a few months time that I am well on the way to a consistent approach to hitting the ball!
Sorry to hear about your ankle but it’s great to here that my videos is providing some simple steps & a clear pathway of progression for you. Keep me updated with how you get on
Thank you Giles. Very helpful golfing instructions. I learnt more from just watching this one video than I have from watching lots of different videos made by others!
I discovered your videos accidently. I'm 78 years old and I didn't grow up with sports. I consider myself pretty active. I started playing golf in my 40's. I've spent tens of thousands of dollars on lessons and I've watched tons of videos. I watched this video a couple of days ago. It's very hot here in Palm Springs so I couldn't get to the range. But my wife and I played golf early this morning. I know I've got to practice more but the game I played this morning was the best I've played in many months. I'm not sure where you are located but if you were in the states and offered lessons in person, I'd make every effort to come and see you. Thanks for your very helpful videos. You have a new fan now. Very grateful for having found you. Thanks
Oh well! It's all good. I'm following your videos and I know for sure that I'll continue to improve. We're going to give it another try early tomorrow morning. What I'm excited about is the fact I'm getting pretty confident which is very important. I was to the point where I was scared to swing the golf club. I didn't sleep well the night before playing golf. I know it sounds crazy but it is the fact. My wife is a much better player than I am and I've been making her life miserable because of my golf game. Today I had a different mindset and I feel very optimistic about my golf game. Sorry if I'm getting too wordy but you can tell I'm excited. I'm a very successful business man and golf has brought me down to my knees but no more. Much appreciated you getting back to me. Have a great evening.
Fantastic detailed video Giles, thanks so much. I will video myself from side on but I couldn't wait, so while watching this I stopped the video, put a tee in the grip end, and a piece of string down to a teaspoon (plumb line in other words), and found that the butt end of my club was above the loop of my shoe laces, so not enough depth at the top of my backswing. This is the 1st thing will be working on!
Excellent video instruction. Lots and lots to take in, will need several viewings to do it justice, and will need to take it stage by stage - but unlike many others I've watched it all makes perfect sense. I'm 70, play off 18 and want to improve - this will help me a lot, I'm sure. It's winter here but I'll work on the various elements and really look forward to the springtime. Thanks....
Hi Giles, I have been studying Ben Hogans swing lately and I find your instruction matching up to his swing sequence. I understand the grip, stance and rotation around the spine completely. What I could not quite get going for myself was the down swing sequence. I tend te drop backwards or forwards at age 77. I will now try your advice and shift my weight a little towards my left leg before starting the downswing, while staying relaxed as possible. regards, A Caron
Personally for someone of your age I would stay away from hogan. Controversial opinion but his swing is very demanding on the body. This video and more of my videos teach a far easier swing on the body
Thank You! Thank You! Really Good Stuff. When I started toward my left foot before finishing the back swing, everything fell into place. Swinging my body slower, club is moving faster.
I’ve just come across this . That grip tip with the left hand is brilliant. I’ve always had it underneath like my right hand. Tried it on the coarse today unbelievable.thanks will definitely follow you now
The position of the lead hand grip solved my issues. I had my baseball grip way south on the club. Followed your direction and automatic perfect shaft lean and like you said more control of the club head. Thank you
I walked out and tried just a few positions in my backyard hitting-range and rather than try and hit balls I was looking for some of the drill points and seeing how I lined up with yours. What I found is that for some reason much of what I used to take for granted in my swing has changed because of injuries, age and lack of mobility...BUT...I'm going to dedicate some time and effort to learn these checkpoints and see if this helps to get the ball back in the center of my 7 iron. I have been frustrated lately with my swing but a little patience and some work I think I can improve things. Nonetheless this is a very good video for seniors. There is nothing in here that I would violently disagree with. All of your points are just good golf and with some actual practice should go far to help senior golfers...thanks !!
This is an awesome video . The idea is to stay on that plane which is the arc. This is easy to understand . I love the drills and thanks for focusing on seniors. I will use these drills to develope my swing
great video. Best I have seen on the grip. Very useful video from beginning to end. I am 60. Been golfing for years. I am lost in my game. This is going to help me.
Good morning! Wow , it was an incredible complete video. The description step by step from start, set up, grip and everything else it was nicely done. Thanks Giles. Looking to tell my friends your channel. I'm very glad I discover your site.
I took a lesson from a golf pro whom repositioned my grip but did not provide a way to make it memorable or repeatable. I can't wait to try this new comfortable, natural and repeatable grip advice.
Great video your way of explaining things is brilliant weight transfer has always been my problem I will be working on your suggestions today keep up the great work
Giles - such a great but “short” breakdown of how anyone of any level could use to hit the ball done the fairway! Great to see many of the subjects taken for granted highlighted - from grip through ball position (over our eye) to explaining that the concept of “staying centred” over the ball does allow for some movement! Epic session - well worth saving and watching before hitting the range - lots of times! One question for you Giles, how could this technique work if we opened our stance (front foot back a bit) rather than back foot?😊
Sensei, thanks! Now we have moved into territory we both share! My “current” coach in Australia wants me to hit fades… fine but as my 35 odd years of hitting a draw (via grip/stance/ball position ) are working well after every other session I was just wondering about “the why”? Yes rotation can “cure” everything but ,,, my preference is to hit a draw and have some space when I drop into my downswing not have to stand up! Love your stuff it keeps me focused on impact/contact and how I can make it with 40% effort and 80% speed!!! Maybe I have to come to the UK or you will have to come to Italy next year!! Or Aus - but …
Really fantastic video! A lot of information presented in a well organized and efficient way. You know your stuff and are able to speak with great flow - concise and to the point. The drills are all super helpful. Thank you!
Excellent concise video! Being 76 years old, I have watched at least a thousand golf swing videos. This is going to be one of those I frequently review and practice. It also makes a great video to use as a reference when reviewing a video of myself. Regarding the release, since you can do both, do you see any differences in accuracy vs distance? I seem to have less dispersion and less distance with the body release than when I try the roll release.
Hallo Giles. I did find you analysis of the swing fantastic. Probably the best i’ve ever seen! It did help me a lot. Just one remark/question however. You did finish the video with the analysis of impact and release. Is it possible to add some final remarks/tips/drills/checkpoints/analysis of the desired or optimal finish position of the swing as well? That would complete it and make it even better. Thanks a lot!
Thank you Giles for very detailed descriptions of how to make important shot in Golf I am 81 , love to learn golf game, I enjoy putting and chipping, but I find difficult to hit drive shot, how to make correct contact with the ball? I find it but frustrating to make proper contact with the ball What should I do to improve it?
Thanks Sir Andrew, great content as ever. As a senior golfer I and my playing partners generally suffer from arthritic knee and hip joints, for me meaning I struggle to complete the pivot because of my left knee and I push a lot of shots, particularly driver. The advice I’ve been given is to restrict my swing to 50-75%, do you have any other tips that mean I don’t lose so much distance? Cheers.
If you have knee problems then setup with less knee bend and in the swing be a lot more active with your heels coming off the ground to reduce and tension of the knee
So grateful that you are giving us seniors a shot! As a beginner and nearing 70, I find most advice on other channels far too advanced for my capabilities. Considering that pensioners have more time and often more disposable income it surprises me how few channels cater for us in their videos . Many thanks 🌟
Wow - excellent content, and your pragmatic examples and check points are excellent. It validates a lot of what I am reading and trying to do. Will check out your web site. Thanks for making this for us "well seasoned" golfers!
Thank you. No such thing as a pause as something is always moving. It might feel like a pause but that’s to let the hands drop. Move your body correctly and have enough depth then you won’t need to do that
Great video. May I ask? Do you "recenter at the top of your backswing"? it seems that you do when you have a relaxed effortless swing, creating a slingshot effect
Found it, have done the grip, pressure I usually squeeze hard let go then re grip. It keeps me relaxed. I like the rotation feel. I notice if my head moves too much,vs staying still I don't make good contact. Love the hack. I have to see where my club points in the back. Never noticed. What exercises at the gym can help with gaining some swing speed and rotation?
The main challenge to the Seniors is our ability to fully rotate our shoulder and waist, and limited backswing. What we are after is a modest distance and not so accurate aim. Age has already taken its toll. Can we just have half rotation and 3/4 backswing? If thats corrected, that would be perfect for us. Thank you Giles.
With the senior golfers I’ve taught most of them have been able to generate a lot of speed through their hands and arms and wrists, but not through rotation. So yes I’ve built them more 3/4 swings that release the generate speed
Giles, thank you so much for this instruction. My problem is that I m always doing a slice shot with my driver that push me off the right fair way. Ps , How do I correct that. I want to play a straight shots.
Other considerations are the artiritis in the wrists and hands and any adjustments that could be made. I can't set up as you describe in you're first step for grip.
Perhaps I missed it one of your videos but in set up, ball position, is the ball position determined before or after you tilt. In other words, straight on or after you assume your address position.
Hi everyone, which part of this video was the most valuable for you?
The depth part was most valuable for me

I’m learning a lot from this video. I must practice on my body rotation. Thank you!
Hope this helps with your rotation!
Great video! Thanks for the great explanations on each part of the swing.
Glad it was helpful!
Indeed an excellent video and an inspiration to all generally shy golfers. Well done!!! and looking for many more very use full tips. Cheers!!!
Glad you enjoyed it & hope I can help more people too!
Fantastic Explanation helps to answer a lot of questions
Awesome! That’s exactly what I was trying to do!
Thank you. You would restrict your backswing turn, causing less depth & chances are you’d swing over the top creating an in to out path
Or Aus - but …
Excellent and comprehensive.
Glad it was helpful!
Really fantastic video! A lot of information presented in a well organized and efficient way. You know your stuff and are able to speak with great flow - concise and to the point. The drills are all super helpful. Thank you!
Thank you Richard! Appreciate the feedback & kind words!
Pure gold, mate. Thank you very much.
Thank you!
Great video - complete breakdown of the whole process and so much to work on. Great drill suggestions too,.
Thank you! Glad it was helpful!
Some great drills here Giles, many thanks.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it
Glad I stumbled onto this video. Very well done and explained from start to finish! Thanks!
Thank you Donald!
This is incredible! Thanks you Mr Giles
Thank you Bryan! Glad you enjoyed it
Great analysis and breakdown of the swing. Thank you!!!!
Thank you! Glad it helped
The best over all lesson I have ever seen!!!!
Thank you so much!
World class video here
Thank you Lewis!
This is a fantastic video! Thank you this is awesome!!
Thank you Scott!
Not necessarily but you might argue a roll release could generate more speed
hi coach I'm almost a senior golfer (I'm 40 years old 😅) and your advice helped me a lot, thanks
Great to hear! I’ll keep the videos coming
Takeaways
- right step slightly back
- push right leg down
- downswing club face position
Great
Perfect!
I did add checks but they were done throughout the video. I can’t unfortunately edit this video but I can on new videos to come
Thank you Giles for very detailed descriptions of how to make important shot in Golf
I am 81 , love to learn golf game, I enjoy putting and chipping, but I find difficult to hit drive shot, how to make correct contact with the ball?
I find it but frustrating to make proper contact with the ball
What should I do to improve it?
Watch my driver complete guide video and that will definitely help. Also follow the steps in this video
Giles, thanks, best explanation I have seen!
Thank you Jim!
So grateful that you are giving us seniors a shot! As a beginner and nearing 70, I find most advice on other channels far too advanced for my capabilities. Considering that pensioners have more time and often more disposable income it surprises me how few channels cater for us in their videos . Many thanks 🌟
Glad you’re enjoying the information targeted to senior golfers
Thanks for the video really detailed. I like the drills built in.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow - excellent content, and your pragmatic examples and check points are excellent. It validates a lot of what I am reading and trying to do. Will check out your web site. Thanks for making this for us "well seasoned" golfers!
Thank you! Glad it was helpful!
Gillie G has f'ning changed my life!.. You complete me 😍
Glad I could help!
Very Professional Giles, thank you. Great Drills. What is your opinion on pause at the top for senior golfers?
Thank you. No such thing as a pause as something is always moving. It might feel like a pause but that’s to let the hands drop. Move your body correctly and have enough depth then you won’t need to do that
Thank you for your fast response. Are you going to put all of your drills on your play list at
some point? Best drills on youtube. Thank you.
@@09Youba I haven’t planned to as every video has great drills
This guy is GOOD!
Thank you!
Incredible detail on this
Thank you!
Super, great video, right to the point.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video. May I ask? Do you "recenter at the top of your backswing"? it seems that you do when you have a relaxed effortless swing, creating a slingshot effect
You re-centre just before you finish the backswing
Excellent piece of work.
Thank you!
Fantastic summary. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
I’m not a gym expert so wouldn’t want to say but all I would say is it’s different for everyone in the gym depending on your body
I saved 100s of UA-cam videos , I’m going to delete them all and keep this one. Thank you ,Giles.
Thank you Ian! Hope this helps!
I love this. Thanks
You’re welcome!
THX!其实上桿由下半身带上桿是比由双肩带上桿容易得多。另您說下挥桿由下半身左脚先带动也不易,我听过下桿由左手臂侧带動也可使下半身移動来打球,您覺得呢?
Thanks!
Great Advice tips
Thank you!
The two types of hand position during release based on club head toe position at delivery position
Great! Such a key part so glad you enjoyed that!
Superb complete guide Giles, you've done very well, I think you've earned yourself a pint. 😉😅
Thanks 😁
Terrific instructions ❤
Thank you!
Really great instruction and why we do things.. Ima gonna have to sign up for lessons😂
Thank you! Would love to help you
Giles, thank you so much for this instruction. My problem is that I m always doing a slice shot with my driver that push me off the right fair way. Ps , How do I correct that. I want to play a straight shots.
Check out my slice videos or grab an online lesson with myself on Skillest
@ricksheilsPGA what do you think 👀
Yes Rick collaborate with this man. The golfing world needs this
@@BryanGonzales-rj4sf would love that! @ricksheilsPGA
Yes please do
Excellent video
Thank you very much!
Weight shift is the critical part for me. Also consistency in striking the low point.
100% agree
Other considerations are the artiritis in the wrists and hands and any adjustments that could be made. I can't set up as you describe in you're first step for grip.
Thicker grips are key and focusing on arm position instead of
Well done
Thank you!
Great video. When I set up with the ball in the center of the club face, I hit toe side. When I set up heel side I hit the middle. Is this normal?
No it’s not. Chances are you’re too close to the ball or early extending which moves the club away from your body
It was all good. But explaining where club head should be a different points in swing was very good
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it & the detail on the clubhead!
Great video.
Thank you!
Perhaps I missed it one of your videos but in set up, ball position, is the ball position determined before or after you tilt. In other words, straight on or after you assume your address position.
After you tilt 👍🏻
GREAT VDEO!
Thank you!
excellent video
Thank you very much!
Very very good
Thank you Gerry!
