I had a blue one around 1990, found sitting behind a city laundromat but low mileage. I was on a first name basis with the Sat. parts guy at the old Nissan dealership, who would haul out the "411 book" from under the counter. I had previously owned a Volvo with SUs so could tune the carbs. I used it as my daily driver for several years. I had already owned 510s and a Datsun pickup.
I owned 2 of these, the first one was not an SSS, owned it in San Diego, the 2nd WAS and SSS, bought it in Tucson, drove it to Denver when we moved there (with 4 cats too), and sold it there in 1983, could never get the carbs dialed in properly at that elevation.
Most of the 5 speed conversions done on 510's and such were sourced from my truck. A 83 720 pickup (the 720 is a truck, not a car) in 4x4 single cab trim. They have a very stubby 5 speed that fits right in a 510 or such. One reason my truck is so rare these days. Lol
Very cool to see one of these cars still moving. I have a 720 diesel pickup 5 speed trans in my 68 1600 roadster. So much better than the original 4 speed.
I loved my 510s but in a few ways the old 411sss was a better car. The 411sss bodies were all the rough terrain design, the 510 was not. So many Datsun/ Nissan parts will interchange from model to model, year to year.
@@Retromod Yeah that's what I was thinking too... It does look pretty tight in there. Thanks for a great review of a very interesting ride. New Subscriber here.

Matey, that was a very nice review. Great to see all that footage of it rolling too. Good stuff
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching.

I had a red one in the 80s. Such a cool little car!

Thanks for the info.
What a cool car! And nice video. LMAO: “The brakes feel…very vintage.”
I chuckled at that as well
Absolute beauty!
Such a cool ride and awesome video!! 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks for watching.
Great car and very nice review and drive!
Thank you! 👍
A survivor. In Australia we had the 1.3L . The just rusted away and blew head gaskets (Austin A40 engine)
The engine sound is sublime
It has a custom header on it. so that is why it sounds so beefy. I may put one on my SSS too, but it will take some fabrication.

I like these oddball test drives. The 510 was a step up. Try one of those and some Datsun roadsters too (1.6 & 2L).
Hopefully soon I'll do a 1600 and 2000 Solex Roadster video.

Nice! 😎👍
Gorgeous car. Do you think there is enough room to put a more modern power train in it, like the 2006 Nissan Sentra 1.8L perhaps...?
Possibly. It's a pretty tight engine bay. Even running the Datsun 1600 took some work, with the angled manifold and special exhaust setup.

I have seen a KA24DE swap in one from Southern California. Looked huge but it.
Triple S ;)
Very nice mate. Check out my 410 bluebird in my channel. These are great little cars.
