Larry you don't have , great shots of Orange Bang. You had a few but seemed like your heart wasn't in it. Get into it a do that Z justice ! And put some "RIPE" pictures of Orange Bang up for sale.......
you probably dont care but if you're stoned like me during the covid times then you can watch pretty much all the new movies on InstaFlixxer. Have been binge watching with my gf these days :)
In the mid 80's in Puerto Rico🇵🇷 we started to save them, and looked at it now, you guys are enjoying them. It was worth the sacrifice and vision of the future with the 70's and 80's Japanese cars. This where the dreams of the poor man who work to achieve and be proud of the hard work whom people admire his craftsmanship. JOB WELL DONE AND ENJOY!
I got a shit 4 door 510 back in the 90s when I was in auto trade school. Lots of steering play. Finally took a good look and the FRAME was cracked right under where the steering gear bolted up. Everything you'd expect from a $500 car. 2 inch thin doors make for an exciting experience on the freeway, not something I would recommend without a cage. I still loved it, tho. Only tool I had was a flathead in the glove box; if I didn't like the way it was running I'd just get out and tune the carb. So simple...
Thank you ,Larry, you keep bring Rob out and I'm starting to understand his obsession, with things like factor clutch fans on a Z. Make in the 1980's and 90's .I swapped very Datsun steering wheel for a smaller thicker one. Now I have 240 steering wheel on my 240 and my back dated 280. I insisted on having the original wheel. For no other reason than ,every body changed them, but the factory 240Z steering wheel, is a true , work of ART ! It's the perfect size and the perfect diameter. But you have to live alot, drive alot, and then you get to understand the beauty, the ART of the Original Z Concept. Thanks Larry, Thanks Rob This was fun !
Rob would be so much fun to chill with and talk cars with and go on a drive with! He would be the guy having fun leavin tire prints down the road wherever he felt like and just having an ear to ear smile on his face the entire time living life like your supposed too!!!!!keep on keeping on!!! Cant wait to start my old z build soon
My best friend in high school had a 510. This was back in 1974 and he had mag wheels and a good after market stereo. Had some crazy times in it. We took it to the first Cal Jam concert and got lost leaving. He accidentally ran a couple bikers off the freeway and we had a high speed chase trying to get away from them until the traffic came to a standstill. They parked one bike in front of us and one behind us and then one of them started pounding on the drivers window until he rolled it down enough for the guy to get a few good punches in, then they took off. Memories of high school.....lol
Back in high school, about '88 I guess, a 510 came up for sale for $800. It was track ready with a massive wide body kit and fully built engine and suspension. But it had the hood fly up and smash the windshield at 120mph on the Pasadena freeway. I had the money to buy it but none to fix it up. Boy I wish I'd just bought it now.
I see Rob Fuller, Zcargarage, and Larry Chen and I immediately have to watch the full video to the end. Rob's passion for Datsun's in truly infectious, keep the content flowing!
My grandpa had a PMC 510 Skyline, he dragged it into the woods and parked it behind a big bolder 40 years ago, we dragged it out this year and sold it to a PMC/Datsun enthusiast.
Duuuuuude! I laughed at the curse of the 510 hood. Remember going on a trial run with my built NAPZ motor back in the 90's... maiden run on the airport roads in Cameron Park. WHAM the hood slammed up into the windshield... Miss that 73. Have a 72 with an almost wrapped up SR swap. Remember your car from way back in the day.
LOVE this episode! I've been obsessed with 510s since the 80s, and have an SR in my current open class auto-X 510. It started racing with a fat lazy GT3071R that went ape shit crazy after 4,500rpm. Even with Xanax and ear plugs it was terrifying to drive. It has a GT-X2867R now, so +boost at 2,250 rpm, flat predictable peddle response all the way to 380whp at 20psi. Put's it down on 205 15s cleanly tucked under stock rear fenders, and 195s up front. With JBCW's rack & pinion kit, it's a Mini Godzila that's terrifyingly fun to drive.
This is one of the first cars of his that I focused on when I was there having my Z worked on. I didn't realize it at first that it was his car, until he told me about it. I just love looking at all the cool cars he has there whenever I go there; I try not to be too much of a pest because I know they have a lot of work to do but it's like being a kid in a candy shop. Long live the Z.
For me it will always be the 620, from the days of cruising Lancaster boulevard with my cousin in his king cab in the 80's to taking my oldest daughter for the first ride in dad's minitruck. It is Datsun to me, and always the best.
This is the definition of built not bought, as you grow in age the car grows in power and looks so you create bond with the car, as you can see putting it in someone else's hands it will be too much. The owner could of buy a car equipped with same power but won't enjoy the bond... really love this car and the relationship he has with it 😊😊
"You're pretty much not making traction, ever!" R. Fuller May 2021. I fully concur. Rob built my z32 and it's the exact same way... it pretty much never makes traction ever till its heat soaked and calmed down. Larry you always interview my favorites, whether it's at KOH or in SJ with Z Master Rob Fuller.
I saw you guys take your first drive in your freasg SR20 Z. Now I'm hooked on this stuff. I've had 3 Zs and never finished one. 1 stock motor, 1 set up for solo 2, and the last a Chevy SB hybrid. All were fun. I'm loving this 510. As a kid there were 3 in my area painted like factory racers. Watching those guys at autocross and rainy day stunts was so much fun. I never realized how special those days were. Also had a 521 pick up. That thing was great. Seeing the cars in tge background has me wanting to come back and see more.
Hey Larry, it’s (The Artist FKA Event Horizon Artworks), this is like a dream car of my Father and I. A build we always wanted to do together but age and spine stuff took us both out. That being said, we love watching your channel and seeing these rides.
Really cool video I have a 71 two door I bought out of the newspaper in 2004. Was actually looking for a 1200 fastback because my mom had one and saw pictures of it. Had no seats, no grille no lights.. this came up for $150… put it together, I was 18 years old. I drove the shit out of it, overheated it many times, rebuilt the head, has a Weber carb, had it rebuilt, points, always pinged no matter what I did to it. I said I’ll drive this L16 until it blows… that happened about 7 years ago. Car has been sitting needs suspension a whole build. I have an L20B A87 big valve head all new, just need to be assembled . Life goes on now it’s 10 years later and thinking f the L20 and go with this setup.. I have skit of projects and I need to focus on one. I got so many compliments on the car, and get asked if it’s for sale constantly. I said I’d never sell it. I just have so many projects and not enough tine or money for all. So I’m looking at doing an SR20 swap keep it simple, big project through. Sick vid, havnt touched it for 5 years, getting stoked again
When I was 5 years old my dad had a White 510 2 Door with the original 4 cyl motor but he had my mechanic uncle break the botor all the way down. A machine shop ground and balanced the crank, shaved and shaped the rods, domed pistons, port and polished the heads, it had roller rockers befor that was really a thing that my uncle had gotten and adapted from his Chevy Racing Division connection in NASCAR. It had custom cromo tubular headers and exhaust with a Thrusher cherry bomb muffler exiting just in front of the driver rear tire through a 2x8 chrome tip, dial 2 port Webber carburetors with cleanable foam/wire mesh air cleaners with custom ducting to the grill for the coldest clean air possible. The seats were Momo buckets with black leather on the sides and the center seat and back were black and white hounds tooth pattern. It had buckets front and rear with custom frames to drop the rear enough to clear the window and the head restraints removed. Momo racing stearimg wheel. Autometer guages for speed, RPM, oil pressure, water temp., It had a 4 speed manual with a custom Mahogany center console with a custom 8 track player, equalizer mount. 2 drink holders, ashtray, hideaway storage with elbo pad that matched the hounds tooth seats, 5 point harnesses front and a custom booster and 5 point harness for me. Door panels, roof liner, carpet, dash pad and rear deck were black. It had a custom sun roof that popped up in the rear as well as retract to the back.
In a world of chopped up and ruined classics, so great to see someone that's refused that trend, and made the parts fit the body, rather than the other way around. Sick Datsun, love it!! ❤
This reminds me of my Corolla TE72 with a 4TGTE back in 1986. Clean, nice and fast, ac and all creature comforts. 4 way disc brakes with LSD. HKS suspension and Tokici Illumina 5 way shocks. 14" Panasport. Pirelli P7F Weight, 2200 lbs.
I was thinking about 510’s because not only its mothers day but it is 5/10/21. But yeah I was thinking about 510’s and all of a sudden this video popped up.
Awesome! My very first car was a 1971 4-speed manual Datsun 510 4-door sedan, light yellow with a black vinyl top and black interior. I bought the car near SeaTac airport in 1975 from a woman (she purchased the car brand new in downtown Seattle) who just got married and worked for the airlines. So needless to say, the car had less than 9,000 miles on it. I had to work and save the money to buy the car and have enough for insurance. My Dad and I had been looking for cars that were less than $1,500, but this car was selling for $1,800. I talked my Dad into going to look at it anyway, even though it was over my budget. The women sold the car to us for $1,400, but I didn't have enough for insurance, so I talked my Dad into lending me the extra $200 I needed with the promise that I had to pay it back within 6 months (He really liked the car also and knew it was like new, so he let me buy it). I had the car for just shy of 8 years. I modified the exhaust with a high RPM long header and 2 and half inch pipe with what was called at the time a turbo muffler (Exhaust Specialties did the work in Ballard or Seattle area). I had it dyno tuned at the only place around that did it (never heard of that before, a friend told me about the shop just off of 145th and Highway 99 in 1976). With the header and the exhaust, it pulled a 104 HP out of that 1600 engine, yeee haaa! It did 17 second flat quarter mile runs at between 72 & 75 MPH at SIR in Kent, could not get to go any faster even with speed shifting. The car could cook and the front end started floating over 120 MPH, no spoilers (speedometer only went to 120). When I owned the car, I didn't even know it had an independent rear end. I learned a lot since then because of others teaching me all about those Datsun 510's from fine people like yourself and others in the last 40+ years. Thanks, and I hope you and your dear families have a wonderful year!!
GREAT CAR GREAT STUFF !!!!! I always wanted one of these. I have owned a 260 and 280 Z's I feel regret every time I think of them. 280 with neat mural on the hood killed by drunk driver. The 260 sold out of need but bought to fill the void of the 280. Still LONG LIVE DATSON!
This is what dreams are made of. I want to build one so bad but there ghost were I live. One day I'll have one just got to keep seeing this to keep the dreams going. Still one of my favorite videos you have ever done bro.
First car was a 72 510 wagon. Mint condition. Loved that car. Also owned 3 510's back in the day. Looking to replace that collection soon. Who in Los Angeles does this type of cool engine swap? Thank you for the cool vids..
So cool to see the changes in North San Jose. I grew up in San Jose, and have been away a long ass time. I moved away in 96 and have been back only a few times the last in 2005, 2009, and 2012 but I did not stay long. Larry, I just dig your content.
I see a Dime, I hit thumbs up. Panasports and SR20DET are an extra special treat. I had 2, both were B&B L20B engines with dual Mikuni 44 side draft carbs, 5 Speed, LSD and slotted rear member.
This car is simply super fucking fantastic!!! Love it. Dream car list for me 200% My first car was a 77 Datsun 200 SX. So this hits special place in my heart
As a 2 door 510 owner myself let me say nice job! Mine is in process of a unique swap of an engine from the company that the l series engine has its roots. If you trace its history you will find it’s not a Datsun engine and came from another car company. Yup completely code lol.
Love Love Love the car! A buddy had a 510 in the mid 90s while at Uni, that's the first time I fell in love with these. And I can honestly say I would trade my 370 for a mint 510. It certainly would be a tough choice between a 510 and 240.
I used to have a 1972 Datsun 510. It was so fun to drive. I bought it for $100. The guy thought the transmission was blown. It was a simple clutch adjustment.
Good to see Larry dropping into the Bay Area. You need to go to Alameda @Valtauto show next weekend! I’ve driven by this shop almost every day for years on my commute and always wanted to stop in. Great 510, would love to own one someday.
Great video. Man moments in this clip take me back to my early driving days too. Talking about the XPlod stereo with the detachable face cd player makes me smile☺️. Love the SR. Owned a blacktop version in a 180sx some 22 years ago. Great vehicle that datto with solid power and narrow tyres, fun ride🤭
Love this coming from the UK it reminds me of a Lotus Cortina slightly shrunk down, and what a sleeper at it is guts must think look at that old Kermit rebuild and then it shoots off and leaves you in the horizon🤣 Love this guys garage look forward to seeing all these cars please they're so cool.👊 you guys need to drift this round a track it would be so cool
I had a new 510 in 1969. It was a cool little car would mind having one again. This green 510 is great but he needs to do something with body cancer behind the drivers door and one other place over one of the fender wells.
If you want to support Autofocus directly head over to larrychenprints.com/. Each print comes with Larry Chen Peeker stickers and more!
Let’s talk about that lil’ oxidized red car in the background.
Do you and/or can you make a print of the Bronco wheelie?
Larry you don't have , great shots of Orange Bang. You had a few but seemed like your heart wasn't in it.

Love this guy. He's such a character. You can see the passion he has and his 510 is the perfect example.
Thank you Larry for featuring another 510. We need more Datsuns in this channel. Thank you once again! :)
One highlight of my life is working for Rob and driving/repairing all the amazing cars that go through ZCG. Rob is a living legend!

"One sports company could get lucky and make one iconic sports car, Nissan made a habit of it."
For some reason this really sticks out to me
Nissan is a huge mess of a company these days, but they did build some great cars.

This was fun !
'when your Momo steering wheel is starting to separate' love it! This is just not a total restoration, has bunch of history kept in it. Great!!!

So cool to see the changes in North San Jose. I grew up in San Jose, and have been away a long ass time. I moved away in 96 and have been back only a few times the last in 2005, 2009, and 2012 but I did not stay long. Larry, I just dig your content.
The lesser known Datsuns are so slept on dude!🔥 please do some more videos on 140Y/B210 and SSS chassis cars
I see a Dime, I hit thumbs up. Panasports and SR20DET are an extra special treat. I had 2, both were B&B L20B engines with dual Mikuni 44 side draft carbs, 5 Speed, LSD and slotted rear member.
I applaud his effort to make it look stock from the outside !
Trinidad & Tobago.
West Indies.
“Nah it’s okay. I told you we’re not going to stop”… most gangster part of the video! Haha
I know that car. I went 12’s in the passenger seat with the Turbo Tom set up on the truck motor. So awesome that you still have it.
This car is simply super fucking fantastic!!! Love it. Dream car list for me 200%
My first car was a 77 Datsun 200 SX. So this hits special place in my heart
Bro!!! I love the Fair Lady but this Datsun build...is insanely cool too!
As a 2 door 510 owner myself let me say nice job! Mine is in process of a unique swap of an engine from the company that the l series engine has its roots. If you trace its history you will find it’s not a Datsun engine and came from another car company. Yup completely code lol.
Mercedes...At least the design.
Amazing car.
If Rob Fuller was an action figure, he comes with the Datsun 510.
I love 510's. I wish I had a wagon version 👌🏼
Absolutely beautiful set up. Love the sr-20 det.... its amazing.
The hood on my 510 literally did that two weeks ago, if only this video had came out before...
Nissan needs another icon for the current generation. Need to bring the IDx to life.
These cars are bonkers even with a 200 hp engine. Made by a mad man is what it is! His dedication to it and keeping it era correct is huge though
Gee...185 section tires. Can’t imagine why he can’t get traction. 🤣. Kidding aside, absolutely love this car. What an awesome build.
That Turbo Sounds So Quick !!! Love That Beautiful Motor Bay !!!
Man, I love 510's, and this car is gorgeous.
I was gona sell my 92 sentra 2dr but after this Im just gona do the swap😍
Z car garage rocks!. Inspiration to work more on my 620
I want to own one so bad! This is going to have me go down a 2 in the morning binge watch of 510 videos
Loved this motor since 2000 when I rode in my buddies gtir😄
I love this Chanel, one of the best motoring channels on UA-cam !
Good to see Larry dropping into the Bay Area. You need to go to Alameda @Valtauto show next weekend! I’ve driven by this shop almost every day for years on my commute and always wanted to stop in. Great 510, would love to own one someday.
Please make a Rob Fuller playlist on your channel! Not sure I’ve seen all your videos with him.
Larry Chen, introducing me to every car I never knew I wanted.
Evergreen, fitting name for this vehicle just like the container in the video.
I've always wanted a 510 and about ten years ago you could get clean ones for cheap now I have saw them for $20-$30k
That's pretty much everything now.
Such a nice piece of Nissan history, awesome car.
I have a 1972 wagon I’m restoring and this gives me so much inspiration! Please make brake kits for them I’m definitely interested.
'Actually its a green top, Larry' 😂😂😂😂
Great video. Man moments in this clip take me back to my early driving days too. Talking about the XPlod stereo with the detachable face cd player makes me smile☺️. Love the SR. Owned a blacktop version in a 180sx some 22 years ago. Great vehicle that datto with solid power and narrow tyres, fun ride🤭
Very very cool sleeper ‘dime’. Dude does great DATSUN(Nissan) stuff. Thx for the coverage Larry. It’s much appreciated.
Young man you're not old if you don't remember playing 8-track tapes in a car stereo. LOL
Hahaha!! Did he just lay a patch in front of the cops?!?! LoL!! Love it!!! 😂
When it comes to Nissan Datsun my favorite car is that one and that’s my favorite color👍🏻😎
To my mind....the 510 was the perfect urban vehicle. The toughest little car I have ever owned.
Nobody :
Larry at 21:12 : 🖐🏻 four hundred horsepower
i wonder how many psi boost it makes.. standard sr 20 only about 200plus hp
MotionautoTV has a 510 in the same colour with the same engine
Do they still have it?
@@equieh Yes they do. Just waiting for it's time.
It's in the back of his home garage being used as a shelf... 400ish horse built Sr...
I literally only clicked on the video thinking it was Trevor's build. Lol
The classic MIJ (made in Japan) cars the best. Shout out from Petaluma, 1.5 hours north of San Jose, classic car capital of NorCal.
I had a new 510 in 1969. It was a cool little car would mind having one again. This green 510 is great but he needs to do something with body cancer behind the drivers door and one other place over one of the fender wells.
Or he cabnjust drive the hell out of it to please nobody but himself. Rust happens in Datsuns!!!
Larry reaction to the car is like going raw on your 1st date.. Lmao.
lmfao!!!!!!
the car is ok, but can i get a build breakdown on that man's moustache and beard game
Larry: It's too much
Rob: HIT IT! HIIT IIIIIIIT!
#scumbaggingOtherPeopleInHisOwnCar
I love my 510, getting ready for a paint job.
Larry : 400 horse power!! *puts5 fingers up* lol
Love these videos
