    1- become an English teacher.
2- marry to Thai or have Thai girl /boyfriend and open a restaurant or a coffee shop.
3- work for a foreign company.
4- become a youtuber or a digital nomad.

I do have a question as you have been there a while. Why does it seem like every retiree who goes there for a while has a subpar girlfriend or significant other?
I like i get very attractive or they are decently established but having neither and/ or former freelancers makes no sense to me, especially if the person is retired.

If he’s American he can create a treaty of amity company and own 100%, no need for the 51/49 split. Yes far more expensive to setup but less expensive that potentially having everything taken away from you

Great idea and excellent kick off. The lady selling the Pizza and other foods seems well switched on, hard working and reliable. That said, many do until the preverbal
hits the Dan then you see the real them. It’s always gonna be a risk investing money with a Thai partner/ wife hence the comment re only invest what you are willing to lose.
Buzzing Trev has featured Deans Dive bar and done a live feed there. From what I’ve seen he seems a top guy and the ladies in there were great fun on the video. He’s soon to open another opposite I believe, The Vault (?) and wish him all the best.
Look forward to the rest of the series Daz, really informative and respect for highlighting those businesses who seem really worthy of such.

Enjoyed the vid thanks. Always interesting to know what expats do or have done to be able to live in Thailand. I would like to think if I ever had the chance to move there and start a business I would think outside the box rather than the normal routes, opening a bar or restaurant in the tourist areas. Be interesting to hear from any expats who have started any type of business in the lesser known areas of Thailand like up north somewhere. I suppose to avoid all the Thai rules and regs you would have a digital business where you could work anywhere.

absolute 101% trust your Thai wife or GF, OK, but keep in mind that you may 'trust' her values and intentions, and she may have zero intentions of stealing or cheating. However if you are trusting her business acumen, her financial knowledge, and her ability to make correct business decisions, well that might a different issue. She 'may' make proper business decisions, but don't assume that mutual trust equals good business management skills.
Other very important point is the language. If you are fluent you can communicate with employees, managers, and possibly customers. Tinglish will not cut it. If not, you would be starting with a huge handicap.

Second Thailand has a unique situation for Americans - Amity Corporation through a Thai-US Treaty from 1966 where the American can own 100% of their business... Note there are some restrictions Best of Luck - I love Thailand

A lesson on how to lose your money in one easy lesson.
I would want 99% ownership of business guaranteed to myself before I invested one Baht in any form of business in Thailand.
Plus, free legal advice from reputable lawyers / Solicitors in both Thailand and my native country on possible pitfalls as the business progresses.

a good vid and a good topic for a series, indeed. My wife and I are fortunate that we are truly able to retire and not need to have any income to make ends meet. I love to cook and I love to do cartoons but my sense is that a restaurant would take WAY too much of my time and drawing cartoons--what? Pays shit! So...I cook and I draw but don't need to make bank from it. And while I would enjoy having a small restaurant, I know how consuming the time would take out of my day--and probably MORE than I would think.

I think the only business to open in Thailand is a laundry. Total outlay is a washing machine and some clothes racks that have access to sunlight. Should it fail , depends on how much you want to lose . Food stalls operate on the same principles , except you need someone who can cook . Man would be stupid to open a bar , with too many variables to send you to bankruptcy . Ultimately, you must have an university educated skills that's desperately needed in Thailand or a real shit load of cash to buy an established / reliable company. To the average flog , who frequents Pattaya , keep on dreaming !

Hey Daz, a hush hush question. Do the Thai tax men chase expats ( not only retirees but also guys less than 50 years old) with knives and scissors?

If he's under 40 and living crazy then there's a good chance it's crypto/nft money. Especially if he has an elite visa. They can't talk about it openly though.

That's scary for the American boyfriend investor when the lady says she owns rather than we own. Like buying a house, be very afraid of this 51%/49% split arrangement. You are always on the losing end of the stick and possibly on borrowed time

I'm pretty sure 99% of the people that ask about how to make money in Thailand will never actually move to Thailand. If I ever decide to move to an Asian country the last thing on my mind would be wanting to run any kind of business.

Investing in food business is a recipe for disaster for most of your subscribers, there's to much compatition in Pattaya to make real money and you would need that loyal hardworking girlfriend/wife prepared to work 14 hours a day for you, please let's get real, best to invest in the stock market in platforms that pay large dividends or buy rental property
