Tried this with a few changes with things I had in the pantry or fridge. Instead of almond butter I used peanut butter, and instead of hemp seed I used LSA with Chia mix and added in a scoop of Greek yoghurt & protein powder. Soooo delicious

Do you need to put the hemp seeds in it?
No, you can just add them on top of the smoothie. It doesn't hurt to blend them in though!

Sorry for the late reply, but no, you don't need almond butter but it adds good fats and protein so I like including it. enjoy!
