Im new to wicked but Jessica vosk omg! What a voice! All of them are amazing, i hate them all that they can sing like that and I cant! I need to go see this!!!
One thing I really like about these compilations is that in the early years in Wicked, the Chord Progression under the Final Note, was slower/had a bigger Ritardando than what we've heard in newer performances of Wicked ( Ala 2009 Onward) Also, every one of these women rock. Love this video
Rachel Tucker was my first Elphie! And I loved herrr! However, I’m a huge fan of Shoshana Bean, Willemijn, and now Alice!!! Alice’s riff holy moly. I was not expecting that😱😱😱🙌🙌🙌
Willemijn Verkaik, Danna Paola, Myra Ruiz, Brandi Chavonne Massey, Saycon Sengbloh, Stephanie J. Block, Jessica Vosk and Shoshona Bean are the best elphies imo. But they all sound amazing! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Oh, if there is ever a For Good version of this video I will lose it. For Good is my favorite performance from Wicked, gets me right in my feels. 😭 Thanks again for sharing!
For sure my two favourite elphabas are Hannah Corneau and Jessica Vosk . In my opinion they just bring such a unique take on the role with amazing vocals , I never get tired of them!
OMG!!!! Amazing Video!!!! I heard the audio to Wicked Tour Reopening Night and It was so good to hear an elphaba belt it out again!!!. Tysm for the video
Ahhhh Julia Murney!! She has one of the most gorgeous voices ever (Queenie in Lippa’s Wild Party, forever my favorite) but you never see her on Broadway!
Yep, saw this in the West End Production in London with my Best Friend Sarah, and Kerry Ellis killed it (and they did a different ending ... when Elphaba was melted, she actually came back up through the stage floor and said, "They never do anything right ." I'm glad this is the only version I know. :)
Omg saw Wicked in Melbourne last week. Sheridan blew it out of the park. Amazing. I also saw Amanda Harrison perform it years ago and she was incredible. Such a fantastic musical.
Sheridan has been doing well, I’m still a Jemma Rix No.1 fan, especially after she came back for 2 emergency covers last week. It was like Jemma never left. This video was also created 2yrs ago so that’d be why we are missing Sheridan.
Omg I never saw the Jackie Burns version, I LOVE the acting choices she made beyond how she played with the words and harmonies. Ughhh. Thank you for creating these videos so we can all nerd out about this together. 😉🙃
Not enough credit going to the Korean production. Her vocals are amazing, and that last belt is as clear and open as the top Elphabas on Broadway. I’d love to hear her sing it in English. The only thing hindering her vocals is the actual Korean, since a lot of the words aren’t belt-friendly. Great for lyrical lines that need a lot of diction though. Y’all should listen to her sing Defying Gravity, that last battle cry is the most frightening thing I’ve ever heard. It’s like the moment a little girl turns into a woman.
Sorry, not sorry... Jessica Vosk is THE BEST. It's not even close. She is pitch perfect, her timing and nuances are on point, and the vocal control is just insane. I never get tired of hearing her sing
I respectfully disagree, in my humble opinion Shoshana Bean and Willemijn Verkaik have the two best voices and vocal gymnastics to handle such a technically challenging role such as Elphaba. These two ladies have the control and power and range. Jessica is a great vocalist but does not have the range or power these other two have.
@@jtat327 Just listened to both those women. This is what I love about singing, there are so many differences between vocalists, but that doesn't necessarily mean one is objectively better than the other. I agree that Bean and Verkaik have incredible range and air-tight control, but I find Vosk is the most pleasing to the ear. I don't know what it is about her voice. I think it's just because it's so clean and melodic. I find that when listening to other renditions of Defying Gravity/The Wizard And I, some vocalists can get so lost in doing it perfectly, they miss some of the artistic freedom that makes singing so enjoyable. ✌🏼
NO ONE TALKING ABOUT JULIA MURNEY??? THE ACTING MANN AND HER VOCALLS??? I LOVE THE TIMING, THE PITCH CHANGE AT THE RIGHT TIMES AND SHE HIT EVERY RIFF THE WAY IT NEEDED TO BE HIT
I grew up singing and in various choirs and the sort, I had the range of Elphaba (I know this bc I sang several of the songs growing up and was always in the Elphaba part) and I remember one day singing along to the sound track and going why does my throat hurt. Well I found a different Elphaba to listen to and the arrangement was so much smoother to get through. Today I learned that the arrangement I found easiest was by the one and only Jessica Vosk! Kinda makes me want to get back into singing 😂
descubrí que el cumpleaños de Eden Espinosa ( la actriz que le dió voz a Cassandra en inglés en la serie de Enredados y También una de las actrices de Elphaba ) es el 2 de Febrero
Eden is my favorite but Alice…her ending aside her little mannerisms during held in such high esteem were a nice touch. She pulled off wanting to look composed and completely exploding from excitement simultaneously. Jessica Isn’t a favorite for nothing more than personal preference but I certainly see why she has the strong fan base she does.
Really hard they are all at diff vocal ranges and personality in character but the one who stood out the most was ALICE FEARN RIFF ON WIZARD AND I SO AMAZING AND DIFF prob my fav out of these
The Holy Wicked Trinity of Willemijn, Rachel, and Stephanie never fails to slay me. Also shout out to Saycon, girl's got a BELT on her!!! And oh my God how have I never heard of Megumi Hamada before now??
You can REALLY feel even in how they're preparing before the bigger notes whether they're on an off night or just really can't quite make it to the notes, gears grinding in their head.
Willemijn will forever be my one and only Elphaba. I adore this woman. But Alice is also such a great Elphaba. I was so fleshed when seeing her on West End.
So much incredible talent, but Jackie Burns gets my vote for best overall, with an honorable mention to Alice Fearn. Also, can I just say what a joy it is to hear the non-English singers? I love it! Finally, I feel bad for Marcie Dodd as that is not the best recording to show off what I am sure is a great talent.
While Jessica and Willemijn are my faves…. Jackie Burns and Teal Wicks have to be close seconds their voices are so strong and the acting is phenomenal
i don’t know how fairly these clips can be compared considering some are highlighted in a better light than others but all i know is that jessica vosk at her best easily tops all the others at their best
You left the BEST EVER ELPHABA out - ALEXIA KHADIME! No-one else comes close (IMO). She was in the West End production around 2009/2010 and they asked her back earlier this year to reprise her role as Elphaba! THAT'S how good she is! Her version of No Good Deed is absolutely spine-tinglingly amazing.
This video left out a *lot* of amazing Elphies, including both that I saw live - Alexia, and Kristy Cates. Also missing are Jemma Rix, Carmen Cusack, Caroline Bowman, Louise Dearman, Ana Gasteyer, and Caissie Levy, just to name a few. I wish we had recordings of ALL of them!!
All ladies are incredible because those notes are not easy notes to reach let alone hold for the length of time they do at the end but I'm sorry you can't beat the original (Idina)

Im new to wicked but Jessica vosk omg! What a voice! All of them are amazing, i hate them all that they can sing like that and I cant! I need to go see this!!!
Wicked is such a good musical and every Elphie is amazing! I recommend you go see it!
Saw Jessica Vosk on the tour and Stephanie J. Block on Broadway. What tour de forces
Fun fact: Idina Menzel and Willemijn Verkaik both voiced Elsa in Frozen as well
i know, one in german and the other in english
@@Rainbowcookie03 Willemijm Dutch and German
Hye Na Park as well :)
She is the German version of Idina Menzel.

SAYCON IS SO ADORABLE AND THE *VOCAL HEALTH*
Ok I’ve never noticed the Defying Gravity “ah-ah” riff at the end of this until Lindsay Mendez’s version at 15:35. Brilliant!
Rachel Tucker was my first Elphie! And I loved herrr!
However, I’m a huge fan of Shoshana Bean, Willemijn, and now Alice!!!
Alice’s riff holy moly. I was not expecting that😱😱😱🙌🙌🙌
My top : 1. Eden Espinosa
2. Idina Menzel
3. Danna Paola
4. Stephanie J Block
Thank you for compiling these performances, it’s fascinating to track the trends and changes over time!
Everyone's amazing, but Willemijn is my Elphie 💚
I love willemijn’s acting a lot… but Jessica’s voice has my heart.

Okay but Alice Fearn going off with her riffs on 21:53 needs to be appreciated more 😭
YASSS!
It was her last “Wizard and I” so why not go out with a bang!
was that her last performance?
@@caramellocabello34 Yes!

Kerry Ellis voice just FILLS THE ROOM! AMAZING!
her battle cry is the best of them. She doesn't rush it and just hits it perfectly.
Sheridan Adams on the current Australian shows is no joke either!
Omg saw Wicked in Melbourne last week. Sheridan blew it out of the park. Amazing. I also saw Amanda Harrison perform it years ago and she was incredible. Such a fantastic musical.

Showing Eden not doing the Eden riff is a choice... Lol (no really everyone is amazing)
VERY THIS 😂
TRUUUUUE!
Alice Fearn is the only one in this list who does the Eden riff; which I personally think is the better option to hear
Danna Paola 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💜💜💜
Oh Sí.... ¡¡ ARRIBA MÉXICO Y ORGULLOSA DE LA OPORTUNIDAD QUE TUVIMOS AL TENER EL MUSICAL DE WICKED CON DANNA PAOLA !! ♥

Girl which korean one
Jessica Vosk’s voice is PERFECT 🤩. My fav personally although you could make a case for a couple others being better.
Omggg! All of them are amazing but now I feel so LUCKY that I got to see Alice Fearn! I mean... that riff! 😲😲😲
We need an updated version with Lucie Jones from the west end cos she’s absolutely killing it as Elphaba
Alice is so extra lmao I love it
Sorry, not sorry... Jessica Vosk is THE BEST. It's not even close. She is pitch perfect, her timing and nuances are on point, and the vocal control is just insane. I never get tired of hearing her sing
I literally just saw her on Friday and I had NO IDEA who she was- best performance of Wicked I think I’ve ever seen. I’ve seen it 4 times.
I had the privilege to see Vosk in NY on the 15th anniversary. She absolutely redefined the role. Unbelievable performance!
yessss, i agree. Also, i love Hannah corneau, she reminds me A LOT to Jessica, you better her no good deed, it's soo good

You need to update this with the Elphies since 2021.
Minha favorita é a Hannah Corneau
teal wicks, willemijn verkaik, park hye na, danna paola, jessica vosk, laura pick... those are my absolute favourites!! they are so clear! :D
god i'm so excited to hear cynthia's take on this
Having Steph singing it in a lower key when she sang it in the original key because she ORIGINATED it...... CHOICES
Stephanie J. Block never originated The Wizard and I, the song was brought in after Stephanie was replaced by Idina Menzel.
RACHEL TUCKER IS UNMATCHED!
Ok there’s a lot of talent out there. 👏
eden espinosa, idina menzel, Teal wicks, Rachel tucker, jackie burns, willemijin verkaik, lindsay mendez, danna paola, jessica vosk, jodie steele. alice fearn , Hannah Corneau , Laura Pick, Son Seung Yeon, Talia Suskauer.

Shoshana
Jessica Vosk
Talia Suskauer

why isn’t anyone talking about jodie steele? underrated.
