While reading the book in 2004, I was thinking, "When will this be a movie?" I saw the Broadway road show play a year later, and again thought, "When's the movie?" I have now been satisfied.
I think it was also worth noting that during Idina and Kristin's segment in One Short Day, Kristin also did a reference of her wand/light stick not working. It's just like how Galinda was when she first started using her training wand in Popular.
Speaking of Ariana Grande manifesting her role as Glinda, she had a rendition of "Popular" many years ago with MIKA. I wanna have this kind of level of self-confidence.
My understanding why Cynthia's battle cry is different than Elphaba's on stage is due to the existing tradition that all cries are the actress's choice to make it their own
i heard that the actresses playing elphaba on stage are given a select few number of options for the runs in the songs. some stick to the original, where some pick the alternate run notes. i thought the movie version was special because the movie versions of the songs, the singers were all able to do any kind of run they wanted to add flair and new emotion,, something the stage version isn't allowed to do due to strict option of runs.
Actually, Cynthia Erivo DID in fact originally do the war cry exactly as written, the way Idina does it, because she has so much love and respect for Idina. It was Schwartz, the musical director, who wanted Cynthia to make it her own. After trying out a few different options she came up with, it ended up ultimately being the one we all know her for now. 😊
for me the ozdust duet is my favorite because of the emotions both glinda and elphaba held during that scene and the relatability of her being bullied and avoided by people
There’s one more fact that I noticed! I’m not sure if anyone has reported, mentioned, or confirmed it, but I noticed when Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel made their cameo, Kristin was trying to get her wand to work because the light wasn’t turning on and she kinda gave up. I think it’s a nod to her in popular when she tries to turn the frock into a ballgown, but the wand wasn’t working.
Loved the movie and loved Defying gravity…except for how disjointed it was. I felt like they kept breaking it up and it made its impact slightly less. In my personal opinion of course
I agree that it feels weird if you're familiar with the pace of the live musical, but I read they did that because the stage show has to move at a breakneck speed to get the entire story in under 3 hours. Chu is letting the film breathe and realized that they couldn't speed through "Defying Gravity" in six minutes since "intermission" for this movie would be a year at minimum and they needed to make it feel like more of an ending than an typical act one finale where the audience knows there's more after the break. I actually really liked that they added the scene of Elphaba just straight falling at first before she figures it out.
I never watched the movie nor the musical just glad a super fans passion project (Ariana Grande) blew up the box office unlike T swift and her super fan passion project cats bombed at the box office not only that AG collabs with Mariah Carey that link up was legendary

@@XavierLey-rq8lr No, in the Gregory Maguire book, the Tin Man's origin is like in the Oz books where he was a regular woodsman, named Nick Chopper, who someone asked Nessarose to curse so that his betrothed would stop loving him, in the book Nessa's an awful person and she enchanted his Ax to chop off his arms (but the girl still loves the Woodsman and the ax ends up cutting him up the more he uses it and he replaces the human parts with tin replacements). It ties into how in the Maguire books Nessa's born with no arms and she got the idea cause she believes no one would love someone without arms. Boq is not that same man, in the books Boq is in the college friend group but he marries Glinda's friend and is kind of a semi-focal character showing Elphaba's change seen through the eyes of someone there observing. He's actually based on a character from the L Frank Baum books who befriends Dorothy and her friends during their adventure.

The details and nods to both the stage show and the Wizard of Oz are just insane.

My mom said they had a sign in the theater that said no singing allowed
I just saw it tonight, and that was shown in a pre-film message at the end of the previews just before the movie started.
@ do you get kicked out if you start singing
I have no qualms about growling at people in the cinema 😅
I heard there will be a sing-along version in December. 😊
@@AnyahEMB That's actually awesome to have designated showings where the audience can sing!
Saw twice and plan to see again.

I love the dramatic pause before she sings the final note. It had more of an impact than the Broadway version.
Saw it twice
Imagine Ryan and dove got cast together-
I am deaddd 😂😂

I wasn’t a fan of the stage version of Wicked when I first saw it. However when I saw the movie I surprisingly liked it
Sing popular in movie theater
Kinda pissed you told me he’s the tin man. Not cool man
In the book, he’s not.
@@arc7375in the book he is

He literally said a spoiler was coming up and paused to give you time to tap out or skip.
They forgot the essence of the musical and original story. And focuses on Egos and Wokism the majority don't want. Go Woke, Go Broke.
